Wonderful find in Sacramento
We drove to Sacramento to see an art exhibition, and were looking for dinner afterwards. Although Grange didn't have any availability when we called, we stopped by for a cocktail in the bar. Excellent drinks, BTW. While in the bar, the hostess came by to say she had a table for us. The meal was amazing. Every item we ordered--celery root soup, chicory salad, the duo pork dish, and our friend's steak--were nicely done and well presented. Our server Tim was great with our orders and pacing the meal. Everything was terrific, not a misstep or false note in our evening. [I marked the restaurant down one star for value because I though it might be a bit spendy. OTOH, I remember when a room at Motel 6 actually cost $6; so maybe I just need to recalibrate my thinking. Highly recommended.

This restaurant is doing everything right. From the hostess taking us to our table to the servers and more. The food is exquisite, demanding perfection all the way. Deep layers of flavor, with fresh and local ingredients. Tim, our waiter, could not have been better. He knew when to come and when to go. Jada in the morning for our delicious breakfast was equally as good. Dinner included my salmon and my husband's halibut. Both were so succulent and tender. Beautiful flavors. The morning avocado toast and the poke entrees were so very good. Again, beautifully flavored with micro greens to add a surprise. Well done to everyone. They definitely need a Michelin star.
Be the first to ReplyBest Dinner Service EVER
My boyfriend and I had dinner here to celebrate him passing his real estate license examination. Kevin was our server, and he provided the BEST experience at a restaurant we’ve ever had. He was incredibly polite, attentive, and knowledgeable about the various cocktails, wines, and spirits to pair with our dinner choices. We personally brought this up to his manager who suggested we let everyone else know about his stellar service. If you’re fortunate enough to have him as your server, just know you’ll have a fantastic meal experience!

Went there for a family party. It is a beautiful restaurant located in the lobby of a boutique hotel. The service was very good and the prices reasonable for a quality restaurant. The pork chops were delicious and so was the salmon. The halibut was average. Great selection of desserts.

Tim guided us through a wonderful evening, Food will defenitely bring us back. Red Wines were somewhat young, Next time we will bring a favorite wine of ours.
Be the first to ReplyGrange (in Sacramento’s Citizens Hotel) is still magnificent!
Been too long since we made the trip to Grange in downtown Sacramento and it is as superb as ever. The menu might appear limited but read carefully: each choice is distinctly different than another and while it is expensive, the food, service and ambiance make it worth every dime. Beautifully relaxed but classy decor, impeccable wait staff (a very special shout out to Tim who seemed more of a unobtrusive but skillful guide and genuinely interested in our dining experience), and the food is simply exquisite. Can’t wait to also return to their Sunday brunch as well. A very special place well worth special occasions, or whenever you feel you deserve the best.

Overall, a wonderful evening at Grange. Our waiter, Benjamin, was attentive. The menu was somewhat limited, but the variety of options met our needs for this business dinner. The wine selection was very good and reasonably priced for a venue of this quality. The starters, the salmon and the pork chops all lived up to our high expectations. We were surprised when one of the steaks ordered came out very overcooked. Our waiter immediately attempted to rectify this obvious problem. Much to our disappointment, the replacement steak arrived extremely undercooked. Benjamin referred the issue to the manager, Sarah, who was responsive in recognizing that this was a kitchen issue. Sarah addressed the issue appropriately as one would expect from a quality restaurant such as this. Based on the on the overall quality of the evening and the staff’s responsiveness to an unusual incident, we will definitely return to Grange when we are in Sacramento.

First impression was that this is an incredible place for date night. Tim was excellent in helping us select the best. Cocktail list is extensive and wine selection looked great. Bread and butter was great to begin, the gazpacho poured table side was superb. My darling had the duo of rabbit and I had the halibut. Everything was prepared perfectly including the table side saucing. Finished with a glass of ice wine!

Attached to The Citizen Hotel (Autograph Collection by Marriott). The Grange is worth your time and money. Service was tremendous with warm staff and friendly care. Decor and ambience is perfect. The menu is small which is to say, focused... and that focus is reflected in the quality. I enjoyed three courses with my main being the dry aged New York. Perfect crust, incredibly tender, and cooked with perfection. Paired with a great wine recommendation and followed by an order of beignets to close out my dining experience. Five stars was an easy decision here for two reasons: everything exceeded expectation, no detail was overlooked.

Well for starters this was our second visit to this establishment and I must say they did not disappoint. Francisco our server was very attentive and kept checking in on us throughout our visit. Well let's get to the Entrés. I had the Salmon and my wife the Halibut and they were both amazing definitely good choices. We had some Wine and dessert and more great service from the entire staff. We would definitely recommend the Grange to family and friends as well as traveler's visiting and looking for fine dining.

Luna and Cody could not have been better. The experience at the bar was amazing. They recommended the soft shell crab appetizer and it was incredible. The French 75 drink was memorable. The hospitality they exuded was world class. Can’t wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding service and hospitality!
I have been to many high end restaurants around the country, and Luna and Cody were absolutely outstanding here at grange. The hospitality here is second to none. It speaks volumes to what Grange provides for their guests, and I will surely come back time and time again. Good people, good drinks, and good food. You will not be disappointed!
Be the first to ReplyOne of Sacramento’s Best
Really a wonderful dining experience in downtown Sacramento. From the minute we sat down until we left we were absolutely spoiled by our server. Tim was excellent, he had passionate reviews about each of the dishes they served. It was clear he had eaten everything on the menu and truly appreciated the ingredients. Tim was incredibly knowledgeable about every item on the menu and took great care of the plates when bringing them out. I started with an old fashioned and the gnocchi appetizer. It ended up being my favorite dish on the menu, but the tuna crudo appetizer was amazing as well. The tuna was incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared. The entree was the duck confit and the ricotta tortelloni. I couldn’t decide which one I liked more because they were both excellent. For dessert we had the beignets and the strawberry tart. Both dishes were perfect ways to end our outstanding meals. The manager stopped by our table to ensure everything was perfect and it was. I couldn’t have asked for a better meal or dining experience. Great cocktails, large wine selection and perfect food. The Grange will be one of my go-to restaurants from now on. I can’t wait to Come back.
Be the first to ReplyThe Grange is beyond phenomenal!!!
Tim and the crew at Grange Sacramento located in the Marriott Autograph Collection Citizen Hotel in Sacramento, CA are always beyond phenomenal!!! The food - spectacular! The wine- always fantastic!! And the service - Always Michelin 3 star quality!!! Tim was amazingly outstanding to attending to our culinary needs, full of great conversation, and making our evening a true experience!!!! The Grange is always an awesome night out in Sac!!!!
Be the first to ReplyExemplary Service, delicious dinner!
Celebrated our 21st anniversary with the most wonderful service and delicious meal at the Grange. Special thank you goes out to Tim- who made the experience all the more special with his friendly, professional, attentive but not over-bearing service. We are so relieved this gem of a restaurant was able to survive the pandemic, despite the loss of some staff and ubiquitous supply issues. I highly recommend the perfectly roasted duck confit, paired with a nice cab. Make sure to leave room for dessert, which is easier said than done since meal portions are generous. This is the place to splurge and indulge - you won't be disappointed!
Be the first to ReplyTim made our Dinner incredible!
What an incredible experience. Take my advice and request Tim as your waiter. The nicest and most knowledgeable waiter on the planet. The food and presentation was incredible. A must visit!!!
Be the first to ReplyLovely evening
The grange is a great place for that special night out. They have an extensive wine list and the menu is not long but every dish is delicious. I had the ahi tuna which was cooked perfectly and accompanied by a lovely curry sauce with chick peas. My partner had the grilled black cod which was also fabulous. This is our go to place of special nights. Someday we might even spend the night in the hotel although we live here.
Be the first to ReplyNOT YOUR TYPICAL HOTEL RESTAURANT....AND THAT'S A COMPLIMENT!
I was in the Sacramento area overnight and a close friend recommended that I dine here. I had a reservation at Ella Dining Room not far away. However, at the last minute I was notified that I could not dine outside. So, I changed to the Grange. I'm so glad that I did because I was blown away by the ambience, service, food creativity and quality. Now, my dining experience was back in September, but I'm sure it continues to be on the same level.
I was apprehensive about dining inside at any restaurant due to the covid virus status. In fact, this was my first indoor dining since March 2020. This was not a concern because the management there chooses to spread the seating out safely for diners. The dining area is spacious and that also contributed to a feeling of safety.
The greeter sat me right away and I was struck by the very rustic design and layout floor to ceiling. I learned that the room was renovated not that long ago.
I first ordered their "Ray Young Tomato Salad", creatively presented with a mixture of eggplant, cucumbers, variety of tomatos, and a quail egg. It tasted so fresh and as good as it looked.
My main entree was the Alaska Halibut on a bed of tiny corn, toy box squash, dill puree, shrimp, and a squid blossom. It was quite a combination and the flavors worked so well.
Then, I topped it off with their Strawberry Shortcake dessert. The presentation again was so creative. It basically was presented on the plate in separate pieces/layers. The best way I could describe it would be as a "deconstructed" shortcake. Still creative and delicious.
If you desire a really excellent evening with great food creatively and delicously served, you must try out this restaurant. It's located in the Citizen Hotel which I will also review separately. Better yet, spend a night or two at the hotel and dine at this fine restaurant.
Memorable dining in Sacramento
Second visit while staying at the adjoining Citizen Hotel & it did not disappoint. Love the restaurant decor-spacious & visually appealing-and the service is reliably excellent. Had a delicious dinner of black cod complimented by Brussels sprouts & sticky rice, then dessert of fantastic mango sorbet. One huge scoop made a perfect finish to a delightful meal. Drinks were well-made. Wine list is pretty outrageously priced, but the Pinot noir by the glass was excellent. Breakfast the next morning was promptly served & generous. Both Tim @ dinner & Chris @ breakfast provided excellent service & made our dining experiences memorable. Thanks to all the wait staff supporting them as well, who contributed to a very enjoyable experience. We look forward to our next meal here.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food and Service - First Time Visit...Will Return
Four of us decided to try something different by hitting downtown Sacramento for dinner vs. foothill places. We were not disappointed. You can only go so far with reviews (so use this one as a helping hand only) but the Michelin "good cooking" tag go me over the line.
The restaurant has a good vibe when you come in and is appealing - we had a nice table with plenty of room for four people, food and a lot of wine. Because this was an 'out-of-town' visit, we brought wine - the restaurant has a very reasonable corkage so it was worthwhile.
For starters, we decided to try several and do tastes of each: 1) pork belly and scallops; 2) butternut squash and burrata salad; and 3) hamachi credo. All were great tasting - really savory to the point where you wanted to enjoy every bite. BUT...the salad was even a step above. Everyone wanted more! We had a bottle of Aubert chardonnay (Larry Hyde) with these starters and it was a perfect match.
One great point on service - we weren't rushed - we didn't place our entree orders until after finishing the starters (kudos on that point - very easy-going attitude).
For entrees, two of us had the spice crusted ahi tuna, one had the king salmon and one had the new york steak. Again, all were amazing in terms of flavor and savoriness. The tuna was off-the -charts in terms of reaction from the two eating it - mild curry, beets, fennel and I can't remember what else. They talked about it the next day! The king salmon was phenomenal as well - it looked great visually and made the rounds on the share. The new york was delivered medium rare instead of 'pink' as ordered - given that it was sliced - only gripe was that it should have been caught at the kitchen. The issue was resolved but a bit disappointing in that it threw off all of us eating together. That said, the broccoli 'blend' was amazing in flavor as were the gratin potatoes - as in the best I've had - definitely worth a repeat just for those two supporting dishes. We drank bottles of Dunn (CA) and Boudreaux (WA) cabernet with the entrees (nobody cared that red 'doesn't go' with fish!).
Almost forgot dessert - again we split three desserts: 1) chocolate and orange bavarois; 2) banana cream pie; and 3) mango sorbet. The chocolate and sorbet dishes were unbelievable. Pie was good but nothing to write home about - personal preferences for all.
As mentioned above, service was prompt, professional and attentive. We were asked if we wanted the wine decanted - two yes, one no. No issues on that front.
Overall a fantastic meal - to the point where we're trying to decide how/when we can do a return visit.
Highly recommended based on our first visit.
Another great meal - so glad they have reopened
We have not been able to visit Grange due to their closure during COVID, but are thrilled they have reopened. The meal was delicious as always and the service exemplary - especially our server, Tim.
Can’t wait to visit in the fall when the menu changes with the season!
