🤢 2/5 - We live and work in the Bay area, but spent the night at

We live and work in the Bay area, but spent the night at the Citizen hotel in Sacramento to see the Kings game. The hotel houses this restaurant. The game started at 7pm. Dinner service starts at 5:30pm at the Grange. They also serve 'small bites' before that. Since we wanted to arrive at the stadium before 7pm, we opted to take advantage of the small bites menu instead of waiting until 5:30 for dinner service. What happened next was a huge disappointment. We walked into the Grange ( my husband, my son and me.) The head bartender, ( not sure of his name, but he was tall with a beard) said this to us as we walked in: " Dinner does not start until 5:30 today." This was the greeting we received from the bearded bartender. We told him we were there for small bites, not dinner, and he told us to sit down. First of all, who greets paying customers in this fashion? What about, " Hi, welcome to the Grange, table for 3? Thanks for dining here today. Just to let you know dinner's at 5:30 but we do serve casual small bites before. " In what universe is it acceptable for a patron to be (not) greeted in such a way? What possible reason would he have had to speak this way to guests? If I was the owner of this restaurant, I would fire this employee right away. How many customers (and money) will you forfeit due to a miserable bartender/host?Next, he seated us and took our order. He was gruff and unpleasant. 30 minutes later, our food had not arrived . What's worse was that nobody came around to ask if we wanted another glass of wine or more water when our glasses were empty. When we asked about the food, we were told the food order had not been started yet due to it being " mid-shift." So, although the gruff bartender took our order, he failed to be sure it was even started. In another words, he didn't check on the order or us. Granted, he had bar customers to take care of. But it's his job to also be sure others seated in the bar area, are tended to. And, it was clear, he didn't give two hoots about us. Thankfully, another server came over to help us. The guests seated next to us actually waved her over to assist us. The food eventually came out ( 45 minutes AFTER we had arrived) and consideration was given on the bill. Thank you to her. ( never got her name.)I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a civil greeting by a host upon entering a restaurant. And I also don't think it's unreasonable to expect SOME service especially given the fact that our food order had not even been submitted. The people who arrived later beside us received their food before we did and finished their meal before ours even arrived. I also know and appreciate that everyone makes mistakes. I'm cool with that. But at the very least, if that's the case and someone messed up, then let us know. So much better than just ignoring us the whole time.To the bearded miserable bartender: you lost out on a massive tip. If you hate customers that much, then you should probably look for a different job.
