Delightful laid back steakhouse.
I wouldnt give this place 5 stars purely based on the food. Although the steak was excellent, it was really the ambiance, setting, and service that stood out. The grand dining room coupled with a laid back atmosphere and down to earth service was a breath of fresh air. Really liked this place. They also do a Sunday Roast which i want to try at somw point!
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance and perfectly cooked steaks.
The rib chop special is highly recommended as are the charred scallops, bone marrow and Caesars salad. The only blemish was the sticky toffee pudding which was served cold and still wasn't great when warmed up. The peanut butter Louis dessert was much better They have a very reasonable corkage fee of $35 which was great for me as I had some nice red wines I've been planning on opening with a nice meal
Be the first to ReplyHorrible experience.
Don't go. Total rip off. Lied about not having a T-bone and made me pay for a porterhouse then brought me a T-bone they supposedly didn't have. Being a chef I know the difference. They tried it again and I blew my top and the manager REFUSED to come speak to me cause there was no excuse being it was pure fraud. He sent me a free Fillet Mignon to avoid having to explain the deception and attempt to placate me. The food sucked. Was overcooked. The bone marrow in the bone they call an appetizer was non existent. I got a half teaspoon of marrow for about 15 bucks. Total rip off. Stay far away.

Loved this restaurant, I met a friend at the Bar I had never heard of it, fell in love the atmosphere was great, I judge a restaurant by the bar, of coarse we ordered some food also cocktails I cannot say enough about this place I plan on going back I give it a lot of thumbs
Be the first to ReplySwoon for the room.
My middle name is prix fixe as in prix fixe lynch. This is one of my favorites. Two courses $55 and 3 $65. I've been here multiple times for lunch and dinner- ,and had lunch yesterday and it was sublime. Ate: Ash cooked beets with horseradish Sea bream/ salad Peanut butter Louie Sour dough $5 supplement Everything was so delicious and the room is gorgeous. You get a choice of fries or salad at lunch and I chose salad. The Louis enrobed in chocolate was the first peanut butter dessert I've ever loved. Such a treat.

I came to this restaurant last week Tuesday while I was waiting for a table at COQODAQ. I had a drink at the bar because I have come before for dinner and I had a wonderful experience. I ordered my drink and it was delicious. I had the special drink and it was the right balance. The place was very full and I was shocked for a rainy Tuesday night. I paid my bill and put the tip in cash. When I checked my bank history I saw, I was charged $50.00 for a drink which totaled to $24.95. I called on Saturday and spoke to Malcom who sent me an email and said a manager will reach out. Then I called back again on Sunday spoke to Tatiyana and she sent me an email on Monday that she will call me back. I have not received any call backs. I called today and no one has picked up. This is not good customer service; my concern is someone purposely added tip to my receipt. Also the drink was only $24.95 so it was as if I paid for two drinks. I have asked to see the receipt but no one has gotten back to me. I do not recommend this place because if it was a mistake then it should be fixed and if there is a delay then they should inform me. This is really disappointing because the drink was great and I wanted to go back for dinner. But I will not go back because of this problem.

The service was very nice and attentive, but we had a birthday here. We brought cake but they charge $5 per plate of your own cake which made it pricey. Ambiance was noisy so you could still talk to who you were eating with. Scallops (8/10): They were soft and buttery. Could not ask for more Sunday Roast (8.5/10): The trimmings were all very tasty. The bon Rib Chop (6/10): This was a big part of our check but came out undercooked and came out too chewy. Beef fat fries (9/10): This was the best part of our meal. Very flavorful for fries and bone marrow dipping sauce made it even better. Mashed potatoes (7/10): These were good mashed potatoes. Peanut butter louis (7.5/10): The ice cream was very tasty and the cake part was a bit too sweet. We also got a Ferrero Rocher imitation dessert that was a 9/10. The drinks were also quite delicious.

Not a big steak person but was invited here for a co-worker's birthday. Was able to order the monk fish dish and it tasted chewy and weird. Not like regular fish. Restaurant is beautiful. I believe the place use to be an old bank. My friends' reviews on the meat varies. Some said theirs was chewy, some said theirs was cooked to perfection. The "to-share" dishes were all good, especially the carrots. None of the protein came with sides or garnishes...so you best be ordering additional sides. The food overall is hit or miss. Our server was dressed a little inappropriate. Though bra-less, she provided excellent service, recommendations and was knowledgeable about the restaurant's history. Overall just so-so. I would suggest the restaurant add more fish options. Would have loved a nice piece of salmon. Won't visit again because of how pricey it is and I didn't think it was all that worthy.
Be the first to ReplyNice space, very mediocre service.
We ordered the lobster, bitter leaf salad, shrimp, oysters, fries, mac and cheese, mushrooms, and the filet. Fries were cold, bread was stale and unremarkable. Everything else was tasty. Drinks were quite small. Sticky toffee pudding was delicious. Overall, I would like to come back to try some other items but I can't get over the mediocre service. Our waiter had a lot of instructions and restrictions and seemed to be under the impression he was doing us a great favor in waiting on us. Unfortunate.

Came here to celebrate my brothers birthday and both of us left very content and satisfied. I first want to begin with saying that the service was amazing! Our server was very attentive and friendly. She even sent out an extra dessert since it was my brothers birthday. As for food, I really wanted to try the hashed potatoes, which is only served on their bar menu. But our server was able to accommodate and allowed us to order it with our meal. I'm glad we were able to try them because it was by far the best hashed potato I've ever tasted! For our entrees we ordered the NY strip and it was cooked to perfection. Also on mondays they have a $10 bottle corkage special so you can bring your own bottle of wine without the burden of having to pay a high corkage fee

From the marketing, the website, and other (apparently misguided) reviews, I was very much looking forward to trying Hawksmoor, the London legend. Unfortunately, without question, Hawksmoor was the worst steakhouse meal I've ever had in in my three decades living in New York City. The soaring space with Yankee blue lacquer paneled walls is impressive, but that's where the excellence ends. The bibb salad was a few pieces of lettuce in a bland oil and vinegar dress. We ordered the 16 oz strip steak, but our waiter came back and told us they were sold out, and only the 19 oz was available. For $80. (Couldn't you cut 3 ounces off and give us the 16 ounce?) We ordered the steak medium, and the steak came well done. The supposedly to-die-for fries cooked in beef fat were soggy, Burger King quality, and a half cup portion. Brussel sprouts were bland and apparently boiled or steamed. All the servers were dressed in hipster garb, either flannel checked or Pucci print shirts and jeans. A couple of times we mistook our server for a patron, and vice versa. Service was spotty, and several times we had to ask twice or three times for minor things. One bright spot: the charcoal grilled oysters, which were very good. I've lived in Manhattan for 33 years and have frequented all the best steakhouses. A good steakhouse is a simple equation: grill the meat perfectly, have basic, but well prepared sides, and provide attentive and spirited service that makes the guest feel special. New York City is blessed with some of the best steakhouses in the world. I strongly recommend you go to the old, proven favorites and avoid Hawksmoor. It is yet another trendy, hipster restaurant that is long on style but extremely short on quality. It misses on all the basic elements.
Be the first to ReplyI must admit I am a bit disappointed with Hawksmoor.
Service is the main reason followed by steak quality. I arrived early for my reservation and went into the bar for a glass of wine...to be fair they were busy but no one interacted with me for 15+min...bar was full so I went to service bar trying not to intrude (knowing the biz)...finally a floor manager approached me to get my order and asked that I move a small distance...by that time our table was ready...then a 5-10 minute wait for the waiter to come to the table..yes they were busy but in NYC at a supposed top notch restaurant you are staffed....we ordered oysters which were exceptional (no cocktail sauce..no biggie because of quality)....server disappointed that we didn't order additional apps...then took our order...steaks of course....temp was perfect but compared to our favorite NYC steakhouse looked considerably smaller and much higher priced for lesser quality. Had to flag down floor manager to get another glass of wine to enjoy with the steak when it was served...steak wine timing couldn't have been worse....desert was very good. To close, the buzz about this place is fluff. If you are familiar with NYC steakhouses, you know you have better choices with much better service and a price point that you don't feel you are paying for the buzz.
Be the first to Replyhad an absolutely perfect experience and so did my friends.
The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, the food was perfect and so were the cocktails. And the ambiance is elegant without being stuffy. I'll be back very soon.

Super fancy dinner for fancy people! A friend and I took out another friend here for a birthday celebration. This place was very elegant and beautiful - the high ceilings, library lights at each table, and etc. This would also be a great place for a fancy date, yet, I loved that the attire is casual! My friends started off with the Ash-baked Beets and Steak Tartare appetizers. The Ash-baked beets appetizer was good (coming from someone who doesn't really like beets), it was the pickled fennel and hazelnut that really made it interesting for me. Steak Tartare was fresh and tasty and I thought it was interesting that it was mixed in with pickled shiitake mushrooms, this was my favorite appetizer of the two we got. For the main course, we got the 34 oz Chateaubriand steak. It was really cool that there is a chalk board with different cuts of steak with different sizes that they have available. If you have a desired size you want, going earlier in the evening is your best bet. We also ordered the Creamed Spinach, Beef Fat Fries, and the Garlic Portobello Mushrooms. I really enjoyed the steak we had and it had all the elements that I enjoy - well seasoned and SOOO tender. Probably one of my favorite steaks I had in a very long time. For the sides, we all loved the Garlic Portobello Mushrooms - it was so delicious! Can someone please give me the recipe? Beef Fat Fries were so crispy and nicely seasoned - these fries were amazing! Creamed Spinach was okay and not really what I expected - it tasted like it has some herb flavors and the based cream was different. The sides were pretty small but it was enough to accompany the huge steak meal. Finally, for dessert, we shared the Sticky Toffee Pudding with milk ice cream which was really good! I really liked the warm, moist sponge cake with the toffee and the milk ice cream balanced out the sweetness. I really enjoyed our meal here and would really like to come back to try other cuts of meats!

The restaurant is beautiful, it reminded me of being in a museum or a state building. The restaurant is a nice big open space and I was lucky enough to have some friends take me here for my birthday. Thanks Cynthia and Elizo. The restaurant is a popular place so try to book early, Elizo was able to book a res but it was for 5pm, better earlier than later. Fun fact, the night I had dinner, Neil Patrick Harris dined here as well. The food:Ash-Baked Beets- Pickled fennel, horseradish, hazelnuts. I thought this app was amazing. I love beets, so this was right up my wheelhouse. I loved everything about this dish from the pickled fennel to the horseradish to the hazelnut. So to beware, my other two friends aren't beet lovers so they liked this dish but didn't love it the way I loved it. Also, shoutout to fellow Yelper Molly T, I read her review and that is what made me order the beets. yelp.com/user_local_phot…Steak Tartare- Dry-aged rump, filet, pickled shiitakes. The steak tartare was good but it felt very safe. I enjoyed the quality and freshness of the beef but I wish there was some kind of crunch in the tartare. The shiitakes were an interesting addition since I never had it in my tartare before, I am not sure if it added much. I tasted the mushrooms a bit but if I closed my eyes I don't know if I would say I could notice it in the dish. yelp.com/user_local_phot…Chateaubriand with a side of Bearnaise- The steak was cooked well, we ordered a 34 oz Chateaubriand and it was good but there were some issues. The first piece I took was the end piece, the end piece was a bit more cooked than I would have liked but it turned out to be more tender but oddly the end piece had zero seasoning. The second piece I got was a middle piece which was more rare on the inside, but the odd thing was the center piece was really salty. Also, since it was on the rare side it was so softer, but the center piece even though soft was weirdly chewy. There was a few center pieces that had some strong fibers that were hard to chew. yelp.com/user_local_phot…Garlic Portobello Mushrooms- I really liked and the rest of the table really liked this side dish. The portobellos were cooked perfectly and added a nice and earthy flavor, as much as I liked it, I did feel this side and all the sides were rather small.Beef Fat Fries- This is old school Mcd fries. The fries were cooked in beef tallow and added a nice crunch with a nice flavor to the fry. The fries were cooked perfectly, they were nice and crunchy without being oily.Creamed Spinach- I thought the creamed spinach was just ok. The first thing I noticed was the abundance of herbs, dill was the first thing I noticed. When I ate this, I kept on thinking I was eat grass. I would skip this and try something else.Sticky Toffee Pudding- Milk ice cream. I thought this was a nice finish to the meal. We shared this amongst the three of us and it was enough to satiate our sweet tooth's. I thought the pudding part was great, nice and tender cake, I thought the sticky toffee sauce on the side had good flavor but I found it overwhelmingly sweet. It was so sweet I had to use the ice cream to buffer the sweetness. Overall a good dessert to finish the meal, I thought it was a good dessert but I wish they could tone down the sweetness in the sticky toffee. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Be the first to ReplyI recently had dinner with a group of 6 people.
It was my first visit to Hawksmoor in NY. Every part of the meal was great, starting with the quality of the cocktails at the bar. We went on a Monday to take advantage of the BYO Monday Wine Club offering. The sommelier came to our table and opened the bottles we had brought with us. He discussed the wines, outfitted the table with the appropriate glasses and periodically stopped by to check on our satisfaction. The food and service was excellent from start to finish. All of the attendees are fans of NY steakhouses and all were very happy when they left. Thanks for a great addition to NYC
Be the first to ReplyI went last night for the first time.
And I was WOWED! Living in the city and working in hospitality I am fortunate to eat in lots of good places. This one however from the service, drinks, food and attention to details was exceptional! Our servers Gabe and Tcsepo took time to explain every detail. From the steaks that are resting for as long as they are being cooked and how they don't come sizzling hot by design so we won't have any questions. Sommelier recommended a delicious bottle of wine and to top it off I normally don't eat scallops but theirs were life-changing! And all the attention to details really transformed me to England! Ten out of five stars

This is a very nice restaurant located in a historic building. Outstanding service with the wait staff on hyper-drive. We started the evening off with Vesper Martini's which were a bit small in size since they are served in Marie Antoinette coupes, but they were delicious. The bone marrow with onions was a little too much onion, so unfortunately you lost the bone marrow flavor; however the bread that it is served with was perfect. I enjoyed a Rump steak, which is a good size portioned steak full of flavor. Finishing the meal off with sticky toffee pudding was a real treat. Wonderful flavors that you would find in London. The wine list is extensive and can be intimidating with some of the prices. My advice is unless you are true wine snob go for the lowest or least expensive wines on the list since the entire list has been specifically selected by an expert wine sommelier and will give you perfect flavors. Remember people are impressed by the flavor of the wine not the price of the bottle. The total night was expensive even by New York standards so be prepared, but in my opinion it is well worth it.

My sister and I were in the mood for a steak so we came here based on reviews. Unable to make a reservation, we we're grateful they offer full menu in the very comfortable bar area. We arrived around 5:30pm and there was plenty of room in the bar. We had amazing dirty martinis to kick off the evening. Side Cesar salad was a bit above par, my cast iron filet was perfect and my sisters rib eye had a nice flavor. The chocolate & honeycomb tart for dessert dessert didn't quite come together. The service was very good and although we waited an inexplicably long time for the entrees, they recognized the inconvenience and comped the drinks, which was much appreciated.
Be the first to ReplyIt is one of the most exceptional restaurants in the city
It is one of the most exceptional restaurants in the city and by far my favorite steakhouse. Everywhere you go you find average service and every single steakhouse peddling the same snake river farms tomahawk for $250. You can tell how much effort has gone into sourcing at Hawksmoor. The drinks program, service, and food are all exceptional. From the first experience to this one I honestly have been blown away. I even remember when I called saying I was having trouble recreating the negroni from the online recipe whoever answered the phone grabbed someone from the bar.

This rating is solely service related as we didn't end up dining. My partner made us a reservation on Sunday, hoping to have the Sunday Roast. He wasn't aware it was only served 12-3pm, we had a 4:15 res. Upon seating we realized our mistake and he asked the server to confirm. We got not one dirty look from our server.. but several, from surrounding servers within earshot. Which brings me to my next ick. Having been seated next to a service station, we could hear everything the they were discussing. They were speaking loudly about sidework and getting cut while we were sitting waiting for someone to serve us. I myself am a server in the industry and I just felt like I was back at work. Pretty turned off and not willing to pay $100 a person for a basic steakhouse menu when the staff makes you feel this way. Having not been asked about a drink order anyways, we saw ourselves out. If I want pub-style service, I'll just go to a pub.(2 stars for ambiance and the exciting beverage menu)

First time here and the Ambiance, service, and food are all pushing me closer to giving my first 5 star review. I liked that warm steakhouse feel, and, maybe not intended this way, but we ordered the garlic mushrooms side and dipped the steak in the butter and ! We had a corner seat behind a pillar but that didn't bother me. We even had a little mix-up which they corrected and went above and beyond which I really really appreciated so thank you Hawksmoor.

When I'm looking for a special evening out, Hawksmoor is my go-to. They were one of my favorite restaurants when I lived in London, and their New York restaurant faithfully recreates the experience - delicious steaks and a truly amazing customer experience. Special shout out to Miguel - a few months back, he dazzled our group with his depth of knowledge about the menu and helped us put together an amazing meal that our friends still talk about. We were lucky enough to be seated in Miguel's section again this week, and he not only remembered us, but he remembered my preferred cut of steak. He was also thoughtful to gift us a salad that complemented the scallops we ordered (don't miss these!), along with the mac and cheese that my husband was eyeing but didn't actually order. Miguel basically read our minds and created an unforgettable experience. We can't wait to come back.

Went here for dinner with my husband and kid and have to say will be coming back. The appetizers were great. Highly recommend the oysters with bone marrow and the scallops. Steak selection was a good one and they do this by weight so you can gauge base don the number of people you have in your party. It came out hot and correctly cooked to a perfect medium. For dessert do not forget the Toffee pudding. Has to be the best one I have ever tried. Came out hot and moist.Drink menu impressed as well with some atypical cocktails.Overall a great dinner. It does get pricey but this is a high end steakhouse so this is expected but well worth it.
