Hilton Checkers is a nice hotel, in a seemingly historic building, in a convenient downtown location. My room appeared to have been remodeled fairly recently, as it had a very modern look. The room was very clean, the closet was larger than in most hotels, and the bed was comfy. There was a fridge, but no microwave in my room. The bar area of the hotel was lively at night. All of the staff was very friendly. I was able to check-in early, but for a fee. I would stay again next time I need to visit downtown Los Angeles. I'd try to avoid the early check-in fee next time.

March 8, 2024- We are Hilton Rewards members and I DO NOT RECOMMEND. We drove 3 hours to get to LA to stay at this Hilton. We picked this place because we wanted to go to the Lakers game and see LeBron James. So this was a bucket list, special treat and expense for us. The hotel advertised that the Crypto arena was 1 minute away walking? Actually, the arena was 10 minute walk in the cold rain. We ended up not going because we were advised that it was not safe to walk. Since we paid $50.00 per night to park our car, we were not willing to also pay an Uber. We realize that this hotel is used for business guest. However at $600.00 a night, more is expected. The best thing about this place is the architectural building (absolutely gorgeous), the two doormen that helped us get inside and the $25.00 food credit that the staff is hesitant to tell you about. If I could rate it negative stars I would. The majority of the staff was haughty, rude and dismissive. When you pay over $200.00 a night for a room you are paying for amenities (roof-top pool is closed), customer service and smiling faces. Checkers Hilton greeted us with frowns and unwillingness to help. I guess we weren't dressed up enough to stay there? Why that would matter is baffling since money spends no matter what you look like. I am a college graduate that speaks 3 languages, yada, yada yada. Don't judge a book by its cover! We ate quietly and enjoyed having breakfast together. However, the buffet breakfast is over priced, glamorized Holiday Express food. For two people they charged $50.00 for powdered eggs and food that needed to be changed out for fresher food. The service was lacking as no-one asked us if we wanted coffee or if we wanted anything. They did ask other patrons if they wanted more coffee. They just brought us the bill. It felt as if they wanted us to leave. Regardless, we wanted to go too. Nothing worse than paying for luxury to be treated as if we were the homeless people that lurk in front of the building at sundown. Next time just stay at the Holiday Express. You will avoid skid row and you will have good memories of LA. We couldn't wait to return back to beautiful Ramona California.

Beautiful boutique hotel. We were greeted by Milton from Valet . Very Welcoming. Mia front desk manager was very accommodating. Great energy. Max from the restaurant was so helpful. Very busy but he got us a table and very attentive. We had a lovely experience and will return.
Be the first to ReplyI recently stayed at this hotel and here is my review
I recently stayed at this hotel and here is my review breakdown for it. Accommodation and Pricing: As someone who typically opts for budget hotels, this hotel leans towards the pricier side compared to my usual choices. During my recent 3-night stay, I booked a room with '2 Double Beds' for $229. The room featured two comfortable Serenity brand beds and a notable 55-inch TV, the largest I've encountered in a hotel. The adjustable TV swivels for optimal viewing angles. A surprising highlight was the extensive selection of cable channels, including complimentary HBO, a rarity in my hotel experiences. Room Amenities: A notable drawback, however, was the absence of microwaves in the rooms. Given the rate I paid, I expected this basic amenity, especially considering that even budget hotels I frequent provide them. This omission left me disappointed. Parking Situation: Another point of dissatisfaction was that they only offer Valet parking, priced at a steep $51 according to their website. While I assumed this was a daily charge, my final bill at check-out revealed a reduced total of $129 for the three nights (equivalent to $42.98 per night). Though I didn't inquire about the reduction, I was relieved not to exceed my anticipated expense of $153. Elevator Issue: During my stay, I noticed that one of the two elevators was unresponsive and very slow. This issue seems to have been highlighted in reviews, with a response comment mentioning they were going to fix it eight months ago. It appears that this concern remains unaddressed, indicating a potential lack of responsiveness to guest feedback. Staff and Service: Despite these concerns, I enjoyed my stay. The Front Desk staff were welcoming and accommodating. Overall Rating: Considering the price paid, I expected additional amenities such as in-room microwaves and a more reasonable Valet parking fee. For further insights, please refer to the pictures from my stay. I've rated this place 4 stars , considering the points mentioned in my review.
Be the first to ReplyDuring our stay there was a problem with the fire system.
The alarm went off multiple times over multiple days. I close to 1000 for my stay and they didn't offer us anything. The breakfast is also not worth the price. I contacted customer service and they never responded. I also got a notice that they tried to bill me twice but the second time didn't go through thankfully.

Great service - goes above and beyond - clean rooms - beautiful location. Helped make the 30th anniversary of our engagement special - proposed at Checkers 2-14-1993! Still excellent! Disappointed that the spa/pool on the roof was closed many years ago. Very special place with great staff/service - highly recommended!

This is a great spot for a drink after work or for an evening hangout. The view from the outside bar area is worth the visit. Lots of beautiful architecture around. The bar is well stocked and valet parking is available if you don't want to deal with parking.

When I'm working in or near downtown LA, I like staying here. It's a smaller hotel and convenient to many restaurants and establishments downtown. The rooms are nicely done and super quiet. Valet is quick and it's easy to get in and out. I've stayed here many times over the years and the service has always been consistently good. I have only had drinks here (which were great) and can't comment on the food. There are many good restaurants nearby so I'd recommend exploring those for meal options rather than getting generic hotel food.

I lost my ID here, the supervisor and management were absolutely no help at all. They did not check for me, they wouldn't let me check the room I was in, even though I had just checked out. And the room wasn't even being cleaned at the moment so why would it matter? And the room was not booked for someone else. I was staying in room 104 and was sick the whole time I stayed there from nov 12-13th. I did not leave this hotel I stayed in bed. Whoever checked me in did not give me my ID back. I came back as soon as I noticed it was missing when I checked into my next hotel down the street. And I took an uber so there's no way I lost it on the way to the next hotel. Everything was packed away. And I never lose things. When I went back to check if they found my ID, the supervisor woman named ZAIRHA was extremely rude to me. She wouldn't give me the name of the manager. I asked if she could give me her email and she didn't respond a word back to me she just wrote it down on a piece of paper super messily so I could hardly read it. I asked what the name of the manager was and she just pointed to the paper. I asked her kindly if she could write the name of the manager down for me, and she couldn't even do that for me. It's like she didn't care at all that I lost it. Terrible customer service. She was so rude to my boyfriend as well, who is always kind and respectful to staff, and they acted like they didn't know who he was when he literally checked in with me and checked out with me. They wouldn't let him check the room either. And I've called a few times now and the staff just give me straight attitude. They're just like no we haven't found it. Not any "oh I'm so sorry you haven't found it yet, that really is so unfortunate, we will call you if we find it!" Nothing like that! Just so rude! I do not recommend staying here just because of how terrible their customer service is. I hope the supervisor ZAIRHA gets fired for this type of behavior.
Be the first to ReplyI have stayed at the Hilton Checkers twice in the last
I have stayed at the Hilton Checkers twice in the last month. Valet and Check In were easy especially with the Hilton app. The rooms were nicely furnished, clean and the I love the bath products! All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The location in downtown is perfect and close to the Library Bar a new favorite to visit. Also easily walkable from Crypto Arena. My only wish was that the bar was open later. We will definitely be back soon!

So my husband and I decided I've from San Diego to LA for our anniversary (we stayed 021823) After a long drive we went on Hotwire and got a room here. Now at first I was pretty irritated (and very grumpy ) because there was only $50 valet parking. The front desk agent was so gracious even tho I was a nightmare; he kept his cool and apologized and told us where we could park our car; he also compensated us with breakfast passes. I felt bad about how I acted afterwards, I hope this review can find his manager so they know he was very kind and I'm happy we had him to help us.
Be the first to ReplyThe hotel is older and nicely renovated, but even after
The hotel is older and nicely renovated, but even after staying a few times, I can't say that I love it. The rooms are awkward, though I can't put a finger on why I feel that way. I typically stay in a corner room which I've found is a little larger than a non-corner room. However, if you're like me and like to have ambient light in during the daytime, you'll be thoroughly disappointed no matter which part or side of the hotel you pick (if given the choice). The hotel is ensconced between two buildings, both of which are taller than the hotel, and both of which are very close to the hotel. This means that when you look out the window, you will only see the building next door. While that's disappointing, what makes it less desirable is that both buildings are office buildings, meaning the wall that you see is comprised of numerous windows in every direction. As I mentioned, I like to let in ambient light, but these office windows make me think twice about opening the blackout curtains when I am changing even though the hotel windows have the privacy curtains. Depending on the lighting, I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult for a determined peeping Tom to make out what's behind that curtain! These issues aside (even though they are big), I do continue returning to this hotel because of its location and that it is a preferred hotel with my company. So consider that when you read through the review. Oh! The view from the roof is pretty awesome, so that definitely makes it worth it! It's just unfortunate that they aren't serving food upstairs.
Be the first to ReplyI had a wonderful time in this hotel.
I work near and we had our Annual Christmas Event so I didn't get to the hotel until 12:30am and had to leave again at 4am. If you don't know LA/Skid Row can be a little scary BUT I felt very safe and secure in this hotel as a women traveling and walking through the hotel by myself. Even at 1230am and 4am the lobby was well lit and staff was on deck to bring me my car and wish me a good day. The staff was very pleasant and warm, YES even at 1230am and 4am!!!! The hotel didn't feel abandoned but the fireplace was still going so as I waited for my car in the lobby I was warm and safe. This will be my go to hotel for me - the rooms are nice and clean, bed comfortable and clean. I was so exhausted after the event I just wanted to sleep and that is what I did. It was such a peaceful stay that I truly enjoyed. Thank you for making me feel at home! I'll see you next year for sure Checkers Hilton of Los Angeles!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent hotel! Close to the Staples Center.
Two blocks from a Metro station. Helpful staff. Room was small but beautiful. We appreciated the cool architecture of the building. Amazing views from the rooftop. I would suggest parking your vehicle in the parking structure next door rather than paying for valet. Overall it was a great stay. We'll be back!!

Be the first to ReplyIt is so sad for the name hilton to have a hotel like this.
I thought hilton carries a prestige with the name but not may be with this one. Super poor front desk that don't even know simple rules of hospitality and mock and don't have a simple sense how to give you basic accommodation needed not to say this is HILTON!

Came to the Hilton Checkers LA and had the most amazing experience at the bar with Andrea. She made me the tastiest drinks and was so hilarious. Made our stay feel so welcoming as Hilton Honors members. I highly recommend just stopping by for a drink...we'll stay here again especially if Andrea is at the bar!
Be the first to ReplyGreat bartender! Andrea is wonderful.
Great stories and provided us great service. Would come again any time.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a great place to stay in downtown Los Angeles,
This is a great place to stay in downtown Los Angeles, particularly if you're going to a concert or other event at Dodger Stadium. The employees were very nice. The building was beautiful and the interior was modern and updated nicely. The parking was a small nightmare and the elevator seemed like it was out of the haunted mansion, but everything else was great.PS - Don't come here if you plan to walk around -- the neighborhood is very sketchy. An aggressive homeless man lunged at my daughter when she got out of the car late at night, and others were trying to jump in front of the car repeatedly when my daughter pulled out of the driveway -- seemed like they were trying to be hit? Anyway, this isn't the hotel's fault, but they could and should have a security guard outside, especially at night. The parking situation needs work. Valet is the only option, and we were approached by a man with no visible Hilton ID at 1 a.m. who demanded the keys to park the car. Luckily, it was there in the morning, but spent all night thinking it might have been stolen.
