A great overall experience at the Shard! My wife and I
A great overall experience at the Shard! My wife and I shared a wonderful evening with a fantastic view. We ordered from the a la carte menu (pictures attached). The drinks were refreshing and quite buzz worthy. The service was good satisfactory and honest which I really admire. The food was fresh and delivered to us promptly. Unfortunately no room for dessert, but again, the view was one of the best in London. #TheShard
Be the first to ReplyThe food was average.
We were a party of 4, Service was mediocre at best, we waited quite some time for service. The menu was limited and I felt for the quality of food, the menu was overpriced, capitalizing on the view rather than the quality of the gastronome experience. There are many other options that are better choices in London... this was unfortunately a flavor disappointment.

For the taste of Chinese food 3 stars, the view 4 stars, the ambiance 1 star, and the service quality 0, that gives an average of 2 stars. If one has visited Manhattan, Shanghai, HK, Chicago, LA or any big city, one wouldn't be surprised by the pretty night light. What I couldn't get use to the noice level around us, I couldn't have a decent conversation with anyone. Other than the waitress frequently came by to tell us we had to hurry up to leave, I had a hard time to understand her. BTW, most of the service staff aren't Chinese that makes me wonder the food may not be too authentic, or just a pre-made then heated up to serve.
Be the first to ReplyThe best restaurant in the Shard.
The atmosphere is amazing. You get an unobstructed view of London from 32 floors up. The food, service and experience is top notch. The wine and spirit selections is great and offers something for everyone and all occasions. So many delectable selections on the menus. All of the starters and mains are made to perfection, but I have to hold out the duck and lamb chops. Both get my highest recommendation. You cannot go wrong with Hutong.
Be the first to ReplyThis was a strange experience and a long review but I am so
This was a strange experience and a long review but I am so confused and upset by the whole ordeal. We visited for our honeymoon trip and were really looking forward to it. I had made our booking (at 19:00, for two) well over a month prior to our visit. We were seated at a 4-top, and our server came out quickly. We had ordered drinks and a starter. The starter came out first, and then my husband had to ask for our drinks. My drink was very nice, his was underwhelming but unique. Our starter was fairly standard spring roll. The mains were not bad, but not really anything that blew us away. I got aubergine and he got dry spiced chicken, and we got some fried noodles to share. Firstly, if you're looking for very hot and spicy (with the numbing you get from Szechuan peppers) and the layered complexity of a good Szechuan dish, look elsewhere. The noodles were bland and quite greasy (it splattered all over us and our table). His reminded him of jarred teriyaki sauce. We were doing okay, and were planning on ordering more drinks and dessert. Then, someone who appeared to be a member of the management staff came up to us and said a table near the window was opening up and he could move us there "for your dessert and so you can take your photos". This sat a little strange with me because 1) we hadn't ordered dessert 2) we hadn't taken any photos or even had our phones out 3) we hadn't asked any employee anything about getting a better view. I was thinking it was due to seating us at a 4 top for a 2-person party and they overbooked, but whatever, we are flexible. Then, someone came up and did what I can only describe as wiped up after us while we were still seated? There was a stray noodle and a few drips, but we didn't make a crazy mess more than you would expect two adults who know how to feed themselves to make. I didn't see them do this for anyone else. Then, the same man came up and said the table wasn't opening up but he could seat us at the bar, and as soon as one opened we could sit there. Ok, fine. We then were moved to a tiny table in the corner, behind a huge screen, further from any windows, behind the bar where the glassware was stored. Someone came over immediately to take our drink order, and I ordered 1 additional cocktail (my husband had previously had his second and it was half finished). Then, the man who moved us came over with the check and the card machine and explained the restaurant and bar were separate and we needed to pay for the restaurant. He then asked if we were visiting the UK and how long we'd been here and said as soon as a window table opens up they will take us there. I cancelled the drink I ordered and we left. Note, we were dressed properly (I was wearing a silk top and skinny jeans, my husband in a button down and khakis...we looked similar to everyone else). I am not sure what kind of vibe this place is trying to portray, but if it doesn't want tourists, the Shard seems like a strange place. It was frankly a humiliating and just overall bad experience for food that I can get better at my local Szechuan place in the Midwestern US. When you're in a city like London, where amazing food is next door, and artfully presented food stylishly arranged on a slate serving platter is a dime a dozen, you have to do much better than this place to stand out or be worth it. If it's any consolation, the price seemed pretty standard for a nicer place in the city (but still not worth it for the quality of the food and the experience).
Be the first to ReplyThis place is special in all ways.
I thought it was just a hyped up place, but I just loved it. Chose this for a date night, and boy it was one of the finest dates. We booked the table for 8:30 perfect for sunset and moonrise view from the shard. The staff is extremely courteous and sweet.Ordered spinach and mushroom dumplings, and it was cooked to perfection. No sticky outer and flavourful. The chilli oil had shrimp, so the server helped us with fresh chilli and soy sauce dip. The chilli is some other flavour that I've never tried before and loved the packed heat. For mains, we had mapo tofu with sticky pickled fried rice, they're a perfect combination. Towards the end, had to separate chilli from the mapo tofu, but definitely a great meal. The bill was about 70 pounds, which I feel was good for the ambience, food and the views.

Grwmeat atmosphere and view and the starters were nice!Only dissapointing thing was the Duck as there was so much fat on it and not much meat and yet was very expensive.. Overpriced, but a nice atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyEasily a 5 star experience.
From street level you have to go through an airport style security scanner. Then the elevator takes you directly up to the 32nd floor (the building I believe is 72 floors). Walk up an additional set of stairs and you reach Hutong serving up Northern Chinese style cuisine. It's a quite spacious bar and restaurant area. We were lucky to have a window table. The views are very cool from either side of the floor. It was an elegant and classy experience, assuming that you don't go to these kind of establishments every week. I do wish they would enforce the dress code more though. Maybe they could not afford to turn people away post Covid, or British people are just too polite calling people out on looking like slobs? Generally though, smart casual (the most ambiguous dress code) is accepted. Hosts and servers wearing PPE, although one guy was wearing his visor screen turned up at eye level, at which point you might as well take it off. No paper menus during Covid times. The urinals face floor to ceiling windows in case you want to be an exhibitionist and look at the Thames and Tower of London while peeing- well in case someone has 20/20 eye sight up to the 33rd floor, I say enjoy the show! The interior is black and red Chinese lanterns. Difficult to get an evening slot for dinner , but for the bar they don't take reservations. The food is made with what seems to be top ingredients that don't leave you feel sweaty and oily out of your poures. Even the fried food feels light. We started with the dim sum platter, where you get 8 pieces and a small savings compared to getting individual pieces. The rose champagne and shrimp was my favourite. For main course we tried Golden Jade Tofu and Fried noodles with vegetables. The tofu is made into three flat blocks, the surface around it is lightly fried, but the inside is soft. The yellowish saucearound it is tasty. The fried noodles are the flat and wide kind and also feel light. The right balance in all ingredients. The vegetable rice was good, but really should not have to be almost the same price as a main course. Apparently they don't sell just steamed white rice. The mango pudding with fruit salsa and mandarin sorbet was so good. Even with a little candle in it for our celebratory Occasion! Not too sweet of a pudding and the sorbet has obviously been kept at the correct temperature. Sone places do sorbet and it comes out super hard and icy on one side and watery on the other side. Not here, they know what they are doing. Service by Brandon was friendly, helpful, accommodating and we never had to wait too long or try hard to get his attention. Knowledgable and understanding with allergies. We were never made to feel stressed and rushed to leave our table for the next guests (which can be common at prime spots such as the Shard). This is now one of my favourite spots in London. I have to come back for the night time lights some time. Truly memorable experience.

3.5 stars. My friend and I wanted to go see the Shard and figured why not get dinner out of it and kill two birds with one stone. I reserved in advance and it was surprisingly not crowded (I visited during February). I was lucky to score seating near the windows, so I got a great view of the London skyline (The views from their restrooms are also amazing too). I ordered the dim sum platter even though it was evening (I'll have dim sum any time of the day). Their dim summer platter was an assortment of 8 dumpling pieces. Some of the dumpling pieces contained alcohol in it, so I requested they replace it with something else. They were very accommodating with that. The dim sum platter was good but definitely not worth the price. It's really an appetizer more than anything. I was probably paying for the views. Luckily, I had a heavy lunch and breakfast beforehand so I wasn't all that hungry. I also ordered one of their mock-tails, which was pretty good. They reduced our bill because the drinks took too long to come out, which was a very nice and unexpected courtesy. Not sure if I'd still come back though.
Be the first to ReplyI was very impressed by the food, but even more impressed
I was very impressed by the food, but even more impressed by the view. This is a truly beautiful restaurant, and everything was perfectly designed, plated, and served. We ordered a smattering of things from the menu, including the red lantern soft shell crab. It was as good as I remembered it from my trip to Hong Kong, where I tried the sister restaurant. However, we thought the dim sum was OK but not worth the price, and overall, walked away feeling a bit dissatisfied with the overall price of the meal. The view, though, was spectacular. We got to see all of London, and I guess that's what you're really paying for.We will be back when we have more money.

Dinner with an amazing view of London! We truly enjoyed our dinner at Hutong at the Shangri La Hotel in London. ย I had the crispy prawn rolls and a signature cocktail to start. I thought about ordering another round for my entree. It was so good. My companion ordered the whole sea bass and she was quite happy with it. I ordered the sautรฉed prawns with seafood fried rice for my entree. Good food, good drinks and a cool ambiance made for a great dinner.

Great vegan options and great views! You must try the fried wok noodles! They don't taste as heavy as they sound and wow that fresh hand made noodle was one of the best I've had anywhere!
Be the first to ReplyDear Hutong Management,It has been two months since I dined
Dear Hutong Management,It has been two months since I dined at your restaurant. I was holding off on writing a review but I felt compelled to do so after a sumptuous meal at Yue Jing Xuan at the Park Hyatt in Guangzhou. On October 15th I was visiting London and my girlfriend reserved a table for 2 at 6pm to celebrate my birthday. We arrived and opted to select the tasting menu with wine pairing. While the food was indeed delicious and the view phenomenal, I have never encountered such unprofessionalism from staff in ANY restaurant anywhere in the world, especially one that purports itself to exemplify such a high-class dining experience as Hu Tong.Your servers insisted on rushing us through every course, bringing the main courses while we hadn't even finished the appetizers, pouring us our second wine pairing after we had barely tasted the first, and the entire experience left us feeling like you just wanted to take our money and shoo us out the door. In fact, your servers even asked if they could combine the appetizer dishes into one plate to make room for the mains! I had expected service worthy of the name for such an extravagant tasting menu: instead, you degraded yourselves to a low-rate restaurant that's hard to find even in some of the worst Chinatowns in the US. There are two incidents in particular I would like you to note: after the first main course, my girlfriend went to the washroom. Your waiters and sommelier did not even have the courtesy to wait for her return and showed up table-side to give me their whole spiel and description of the next course along with the wine pairing, unceremoniously set it down, and walked away. I made a point to call them back to re-explain it to my girlfriend once she returned from the washroom as I was outraged by such behaviour. The last and final straw was when I got up to go the washroom, and our server approached my girlfriend to inform her at 8:15pm that we had overstayed our reservation time and that they had graciously added an extra 30 minutes to our seating time, at the cost to you of delaying the next guests who were waiting for their seating. I could not believe my ears when she relayed this to me... You already reached number one spot for "rudest and least professional" service in my book, but this was the cherry on top!Such service is truly disgraceful and unbecoming of an establishment trying to exemplify high-class dining at the Shard in London. If your rent is truly so high that you absolutely must enforce a 2h dining limit, perhaps you ought to consider raising your prices so you don't have to rush customers out and also consider hiring more professional staff. I will be sure to recommend to everyone I know to never waste their money at HuTong and suffer through the abuse of your pathetic staff members. My dinner last night in Guangzhou reminded me of what a high class chinese dining experience should be, and needless to say, HuTong falls well beneath that mark. My only regret is that I did not inform you of this sooner and I am sorry that several other customers will have endured the same treatment over the last several months. Judging by the reviews on Yelp and Google, we are not unique in having endured this at the hands of your staff. I have dined in fine Chinese establishments in Macau, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, London, and Toronto, and the experience at HuTong was a complete waste. For nearly ยฃ200 per person, we deserved much better. Though I doubt any decisive action will be taken as a result of this complaint, perhaps you will resolve to improve your professionalism and class for the year 2020. Sincerely,Mark Soberman (Reservation under Janet Feng, 6:00pm 15.10.2019)

Ahh this place is spectacular!!! I wanna go on another date here or bring whoever visits me next here, the views from here and being inside the Shard is just incredible :DI got the Huang He drink in Shanghai Bar. At first all tables were taken so we just stood around, but then a couple girls left and offered their table to us! So we got a table and truly amazing views from there!! Really elegant cool experience, and yet still everyone can go in; I had hurt my foot and was wearing sneakers, and that wasn't an issue at all for instance. :)
Be the first to ReplyThe most amazing London view.
but!communicating with the waitress was so difficult as she denied speaking anything than Chinese! So not only i tasted amazing dumplings and duck,I learnt the language
Be the first to ReplyThe atmosphere was stupendous.
The food was ok. We got the tasting menu. Plenty of food. The Peking duck was good. The soft shell crabs tasted fishy, which is a huge no no. The dumplings were good. ย The beef dish tasted like chicken. I don't think I'd order the tasting menu again, since so many of the items were meh. The service was impeccable.
