Hutong is like an art deco jewel box that serves elevated, refined Chinese cuisine. The vibe, though, is laid-back and welcoming. My favorite selections from the dinner menu include the Peking duck (a must-have), and the calamari flowers. Overall the service is polite and lovely.

We came to Hutong to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Dragon, our medical society, and say farewell to a colleague. Took a while to find the entrance. But once we got in, the ambiance, decor, and service were amazing! The food was delicious and expertly spicy. Loved their soft shell crab with red lantern peppers, fried rice, Mapo tofu, seafood spring roll. Their tea was traditionally served and soothing. The wine selection was great. The freshly baked strawberry cookie was to die for. My husband ate mine and I had to ask for an extra.

I don't think I've had such a unique experience for dim sum than this. The food was extravagant and elegant but very tasty. The service, outstanding. They were consistent on drink refills and made sure our party was taken care of. The decor was classy but also homey.

The duck was succulent and tasty and the table side shoe was awesome. With the help of our waiter, our appetizers, drinks and dessert was perfect! Beautiful restaurant with a wine cellar wished for:)

Be the first to ReplyFancy but not worth it.
Spend $100+ for the "dim sum library" for 2 people that was offered on weekends which we can order individual pieces. Originally, I was planning to order half duck but since only 2 people, I made a reservation for afternoon tea somewhere else. We ordered lobster squid ink dumplings, rose champagne shrimp dumplings, scallop & prawn garlic wontons, Hutong prawn rolls (must order), dry-aged beef xiao long bao, iberico pork dumplings, wagyu beef millefeuille, and kou shui chicken crispy dumplings. Every dim sum was so-so except the Hutong prawn roll that was worth ordering 2nd round. Service was slow, no one filled the water and even I requested lemon, nothing. It took more than 30 mins to serve the first dish, just a dim sum. In the end, when I needed to sign my receipt, they gave me a pen that had no ink. I needed to borrow the pen from a waiter from the next table who was taking orders.

Not the most expensive roast duck I had but definitely the most disgusting one. The fat of the duck is thick af. If a duck is properly roasted, the fat will melt and drip out from the duck. Also a $150 duck where $30 is just for a cook to pour some alcohol onto the duck and lit it up in front of you is definitely not worth it/ make the duck taste better.

The food was amazing, went there for my brothers birthday, the fire Duck was phenomenal, "quack quack", the kung po prawns were out of this world exceptionally tender, sweet and spicy, the vegetable rolls maid me want to turn vegetarian lol damn that was good, the sauce that came to the table was super good , the fried noodles and fried rice was to die for, the only thing I didn't like was the pork ribs, was not crispy enough and was very wet. The chicken and shrimp balls the had forgot the name of it my omg was slapping. I drank a simple mojito. The service was exceptional. The ambiance was out of a movie beautiful wine cellar wall and lighting to take pictures , overall great restaurant and be prepared to drop a bag but I'll definitely say it's worth it

Loved this place! It is way fancier than I expected but also not as expensive as I expected. It's still pricy but I think you could go with a girlfriend and get the half duck, a dimsum platter and an app for around $100 and probably be full or at least decently satisfied. The duck was fantastic, which is their signature dish, and I would absolutely go back just to eat that. The dimsum platter was also a favorite and very tasty. The service was great and our waiter was very attentive, giving his recommendations and making sure everyone had the correct drinks. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because some dishes were just good, and I did expect them to be great because the duck was great and because the atmosphere was so upscale. The broccoli spears and the eggplant were both good but they were just good. Same with the shrimp dish (the one that's more sweet than spicy). It was really good but not that much better than a really good hole in the wall spot. I would absolutely go back for the duck and get some of the other dishes I liked.

Tried here yesterday for Valentine's day, very nice and intimate experience. Our waiter Sal was knowledgeable and very kind and extremely funny. He described the menu well and gave us great recommendations. We ordered the duck as appetizer and surf and turf as our main. This is a high volume place yet the service and food were great!! Couldn't be happier more. Will definitely back.

I came to this elegant art deco Chinese restaurant a few times, one being my husband's birthday. It's very beautiful inside and the staff make you feel very welcome. The hall to the bathroom is very cute, you can always find a pretty woman taking a picture there! The Peking duck was great, duck is typically pretty heavy and fatty so it was very filling and fun to watch the chef cut up table side. Come here to spend loads of money for a fancy time.

I've been here before and it was good - but his last visit was horrible. The dining room was closed so we were squished at a cocktail table for 1 (there were 3 of us). I mentioned I wished they had called so we could change our reservation, also mentioned we would be ordering a lot of food, and where would it go. Well... they brought one entrée at a time as that is all that would fit on the table, so the other 2 had to watch the one eat. Then at the end of the meal they brought the 2 sides. We tried to get our meals together but was told no room on the table. The wine was the wrong year, we didn't get the dessert we ordered - and the entire ordeal tool 4.75 hours. For $600+ I certainly expected a better evening. Won't go back
Be the first to ReplyWent to dinner at Hutong with friends on Tuesday evening.
Despite the almost club-staurant style, the food is the star and the reason to visit Hutong.Quality: Walking in I was a bit concerned it may be a place that focuses on style over substance, but was happy to find that was not the case. Each dish looks great, but there was not a single item I would skip. The Dim Sum dishes and the Roasted Peking Duck With Pancakes were the stars. However, the Hutong Dan Dan Noodles was a personal favorite. Cocktails are pricey, but delicious, and our Bao & Soy Milk dessert was a great conclusion.Quantity: Small plates and dim sum, better to share.Value: $22 for the Comfortably Numb Cocktail. $22 for the Wagyu Beef Millefeuille. $22 for the Crystal Lobster Dumplings. $18 for the Yu Xiang Crispy Pork Dumpling. $56 for the Roasted Peking Duck With Pancakes. $15 for the Fried Noodles. $14 for the Hutong Dan Dan Noodles. $17 for the Bao & Soy Milk.Ambiance: Hutong has a massive space located in Midtown East. It took two tries to get to the correct entrance, which is at the center of this caved out building. They occupy a huge area, which seems even larger because of the ridiculously high ceilings. The dining area is separated from the bar, and both have an upscale club vibe. The booths are a bit annoying as the tables are not the proper size and guests end up far away from their dishes.Crowd: Reservations recommended even though it is a large space.Service: A weird experience as it felt like our server was trying hard to change our order. They seem to really want guests to only select their signature dishes, which begs the question of why not reduce the menu.Parking: Limited street parking.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambience, service and food.
We love the dim sum and the flounder pepper soup was delicious! Ordered an entire Peking duck for 6 of us and it was plenty. I would come back to try other items on the menu

The interior of this place is beautiful, especially the wine cellar/ hall!We had about 7 lychee martinis between the 2 of us and mannnn they were goodT. The fried noodles were a little bland but the roasted duck, duck fried rice, cod bao and lobster dumplings were amazing.Waiter was attentive and patient with my indecisiveness lol

We went looking for an experience and we found this beautiful restaurant with a large variety of items (we wanted to try it all) and great working staff. The place is stunning and it is great for date night or birthday celebrations. The food, the food was simply delicious. We ate until we couldn't anymore.

I love duck and after hearing about this place from a friend, I knew I had to come here for my birthday. Found out they are a Michelin Star Restaurant too known for "The Flaming Duck" and they only accept 5 bookings per night starting at 5:30pm through 8:30pm. You have to do the prepaid ($160- up to 6 guests) online booking from Monday to Thursday (up to 14 days in advance). We got here a little early on a Sunday, and they were able to seat us while we waited for our friend. Besides the flaming duck, we ordered a whole Peking duck, which is served in 2 stages- with pancakes and stir-fry duck & green beans with lettuce leaf cups. We also got some Hutong Signature Dishes- the chilled green asparagus, prawn roll & red lantern (soft-shell crab) as well as the dan dan noodles. The flaming duck was the best we have ever had in terms of flavor, very little fat, cooked and sliced to perfection. That alone is quite pricey but definitely worth it, a must try! The Peking duck was also delicious except I didn't really like the second stage of it- I felt like there were too many green beans and not enough flavor. The asparagus was not bad either, the ends were coated with honey but there was way too much white sesame. Prawn roll was good. The dan dan noodles was silky, smooth and had just the right level of spiciness. Lastly, the soft-shell crabs were deep fried with dried whole chillies, so it had some extra kick as well. Portion size for all the dishes were decent, price was reasonable and the modern decor made it the perfect birthday dinner. Service was exquisite with servers always there to fill up our water cups without having to ask and giving us new plates. Our server, Terence was very helpful and attentive. The food came out lightning fast with a perfect pace to the next course. The Flaming Duck Experience was great and didn't take long. I would come back just for that. Best duck ever!
Be the first to ReplyOver all was very good.
I love their noodles but a little too oily and too small portion but the taste was very good. But curious with the duck which is too much oily. The service was good but we need to call them every time we need something. But the ambiance and over all was good, defintely will go back again for sure.

Food:- food is amazing but I felt it was overpriced and portions were to smallService:- waiter was amazing- front desk was terrible. After paying my bill; they charged me a no show way. And even after they confirmed they would reverse. And I confirmed with them 3 times. It was never reversed. When I tried called later; they would never pick up the phone. I was only able to resolve this through my credit card company. Which is really stupidAmbiance:- Great!

Popped in for lunch on the Friday before CNY, treating myself (single diner) to a delicious meal for the occasion. After only being given the regular menu I asked for the lunch special menu (10 mins or so after getting the first one). I couldn't make heads or tails of it, so after not seeing my waiter for a good 10 mins more, I flagged down a waitress who said it was the wrong menu, and brought me the lunch specials menu. Finally placed my order with my waiter and probably 20 mins after that he came to tell me they were out of dumplings (my reason for choosing Hutong in the first place). He then gave me another menu to choose a substitution, but again leaving me with the wrong menu! Once he came back I asked him if it was correct as duck was listed on this one (not on the specials menu). He said yes so I asked for the duck appy instead. 10 mins later he brought the lunch specials menu again and said the other was wrong and I couldn't have the duck. I chose another item and said I really hope he gets the order in asap as I'd been there for over 45 mins already and my order wasn't even placed yet! He unapologetically said ok.The table next to me (probably from witnessing all this) asked their waitress if my waiter was new. She said it was actually her first day, but he'd been there for a long time! Honestly with the terrible service he provided, he should've offered a glass of wine or dessert. I really like the food at Hutong, but this experience will not bring me back anytime soon.

I introduced this place to a big group of 10 guests and everybody loved it - from the interior, to the service and to the quality of food! Everyone thanked me for such great recommendation. Hutong never fails! Amazing place. That big group promised to come back with other big groups! The Peking Duck and the Salted Egg Golden Prawn was to die for!Special thanks to Charlie, our server. Lovely guy and excellent customer service skills!
Be the first to ReplySuperb ambience.
.. Instagram worthy. Clean, beautiful and very Newyork. To be fair we only visited this place for drinks and appetizers so my review is limited to that.None of their cocktails caught my fancy so the bar tender made me my favorite mezcal cocktail. The rim had Sichuan pepper seasoning and I practically lost sense in my tastebud so be careful of that. Loved the drink though, didn't know mezcal and passion fruit makes a great pair.We ordered lobster dumplings as appetizers. $22 for three pieces is pretty steep but the dumplings are of superior quality, melt in the mouth texture and delicious. I wish we could have stayed longer but then we had dinner reservations elsewhere. This place is so eye catching that it definitely deserves a revisit.
Be the first to ReplyThought the food was good, but the prices and portion size
Thought the food was good, but the prices and portion size could use a lot of improvement. Hutong takes normal/basic Chinese food and transforms it into a fancy, classy meal which is quite impressive. However, for the price of each item on the menu, we expected a greater portion. The roasted Peking duck was very juicy, well-seasoned and definitely quality meat, served with oyster sauce and green scallions, wrapped inside thin spring roll sheets. The black crispy pork dumplings were also very good, juicy, and flavorful but overly priced for 3. I do have to say that the service was very good, attentive, and polite. Additionally, the ambiance of the restaurant was nice and quiet, set in a dark lit space. Overall, I would probably not come back here again as the first time was for an experience.

It's more of a night club with house music, rather than a pleasant place for dinner. Lighting totally inadequate, 6 people shoved into a booth wide enough for 2.5. The menu was very underwhelming...lots of spicy, no sweet and I can't remember seeing sour. It was advertised as Northern Chinese, but was really Sichuan (lots of spicy dishes). The dim sum platter was presented with no indication of what the pieces were...totally mediocre and over-priced. The flaming duck was good, but a long ways below my Beijing duck experiences. The server tried to be as responsive as possible, but the manager was unresponsive except to say he was sorry.
