Never again!
We were guests at the restaurant with two other couples in March. After an arrogant attitude from the service staff at the beginning of our visit, a "surprise" menu awaited us. Now, there's nothing wrong with surprises, but what awaited us afterwards exceeded all our previous expectations in one, two or three star restaurants. We got one! Oysters gratinated with a dab of ketchup from a pipette as one course. A (charred) cauliflower rosette as the next course and so it went on. Our friends wanted to leave the restaurant after the third course and only stayed out of politeness. The red wine served was abysmal in extremely dirty glasses. We have visited many star restaurants all over the world (most recently Frantzen in Stockholm - that was the experience par excellence - absolutely top!!!) We and our friends would never visit this restaurant again!

It deserves all of the two Michelin stars! A very interesting tasting journey between Italian and Asian flavors that the chef creates with flair. I was annoyed by the writing on the bill with "service not included, to be left in cash", what does that mean? That I am obligated to leave a tip? What if I don't have cash? It seems like a fall in style to me.

We come to Rome to dine at this wonderful restaurant! The chef is more than talented, the service charming and professional. If there are only two stars in the Michelin guide, for us who often dine in starred restaurants it fully deserves its third star. In the meantime, we always have lots of stars in our eyes and we've been going there for 5 years :) Thank you so much

Horrible, a fuir, pire expรฉrience du guide Michelin !!! 2 years is enough to try, go away there is some amazing restaurant in Rome but this one is the worst

I really don't understand those who write such negative reviews. The place is unique, the staff excellent from every point of view and the tasting menu we chose "Circus" the best of my life. A perfect balance of flavors and aromas with a wine pairing that couldn't be more apt. A beautiful journey from Italy to Japan via France! Well done to everyone and above all we look forward to the third star in the future!!!

Nothing was good. Most of the dishes were full of spices that drowned out everything else. In the amouse bouche there was a cake that tasted of fireplace ash. A sort of pink spaghetti that had no flavor. The fried oyster turned my stomach and ruined the evening. The cheek-filled ravioli covered in cloying tomato powder. The lobster covered in a disgusting spicy mayonnaise. Not having eaten it, I can't say anything about the dessert as my friend and I got up 3 courses before the end of the tasting and left because we really couldn't bear to taste anything else, no one asked us anything, if it was okay everything was fine or if there were any problems. Obviously we paid the entire journey, around 700 euros. It seems absurd to me that it has two stars. What is not negligible, when we left they presented us with two madleines which however had an expiry date approximately 25 days old inside the box. Absolutely not recommended! Also because for two days I smelled of curry, turmeric and other spices that I couldn't identify!!!

Informal and relaxing atmosphere. Impeccable room service, without being intrusive. A long journey, more than a dinner, exactly as anticipated when the first course arrived. We chose the 10-course route, each enriched by an engaging presentation story, which gives even more flavor to the already exquisite and beautiful dishes. Unique experience.
Be the first to ReplyCircus is the best way to see the most incredible 10 course tasting menu
This is not a typical restaurant. The food was so inspired and so many flavors. Every dish was an explosion of flavor more intense than the last. We had the circus 10 course tasting menu - my absolute favorite was the tortellini with duck inside. But everything they brought on the tasting menu was exceptional. The service is so top notch and the experience is so worth the price. You will leave both satisfied and happy! So many interesting techniques used and flavor combinations introduced. The reimagining of cacao e Pepe was wild

everything was simply perfect, excellent service, all the dishes we tried were exceptional, the wine selection was extraordinary, the staff was simply fantastic. the location is very elegant in its simplicity, it is a place that makes you feel at ease. A magnificent experience.

It has been a while since I posted on here, not least because of Covid which restricted our travel somewhat, but this year we have been three times to Rome and also to Lake Garda. There is only one restaurant destination when we visit Rome and that is the Michelin 2 star Il Pagliaccio. It has become a home from home for us where we are always so warmly welcomed. We had visited in April and booked the restaurant but my wife's father passed away and we returned home. We then went in flaming June and. wow, was it hot ! 40 degrees or so although Il Pagliaccio was like a cool haven. So I will move forward to November when we took our son and his girlfriend, their first visit to Rome (although to be true we took him when he was 4, now he is 34) and to provide them with the Il Pagliaccio experience. The only thing chef Anthony Genovese asks beforehand is what food don't we like, otherwise it is always a surprise, we feel as though he is cooking just for us. Of course, the front of house team led by Matteo and supported by sommelier Lucca and the lovely Veronica, is sublime. I think we had twelve courses overall according to my son, each an adventurous taste accompanied by a wonderful selection of wine chosen by Lucca. We are not world travellers to any such great extent but we have dined in our fair share of fine dining Michelin restaurants and, going back some years, at Robert Carrier's restaurant in Camden Passage, London, and his wonderful Hintlesham Hall in Suffolk, and Peter Langan's superb Odin's also in London. Each of their time was a great experience but I can say from our perspective, Il Pagliaccio far exceeds them all. The cooking is exquisite and the service beyond compare. Go and enjoy.
Be the first to ReplyIt has 2 Michelin stars for good reason!
We always like trying new Michelin restaurants while traveling and are seldom disappointed. This was no exception. The food was creative, and extremely well done. Presentation was amazing and creative as well. And it was paired with excellent and (again) creative drinks that worked so well together. Service was fantastic - they were spot on with everything which adds to the experience. And the atmosphere was perfect for the meal. Very well done!
Be the first to ReplyA bit boring dinner
We were celebrating my birthday in the April. The food was good, but not stunning. The food was a bit plain and we expected more. Although it was really kind that I had a birthdaycake. We would not visisted here again but we do not regret our dinner here.
Be the first to ReplyBest meal of my life
This was probably the best meal of mine and my husband's lives (so far). From start to finish, the experience was spectacular. We ordered "The Circus" 10 course tasting menu and it was amazing. The flavors were interesting, creative, and delicate. The servers went above and beyond to provide a great experience. Highlights included: pasta made from rice noodles with smoked salmon and salmon caviar and the best duck I've ever had. Even food I typically don't like was executed so perfectly that I fell in love with it. I appreciated that the servers created a really warm and welcoming environment. It felt like a celebration of flavors, ingredients, and food/wine. One note for other visitors - the website says they don't have a dress code, but all the men were in full suits, so dress up if you want to feel comfortable.

Heaven! Perfect service, perfect timing, super-ultra-turbo good food, beautifully presented in an artistic way. The tastes are tumbling around in your mouth and makes you so happy that almost want to cry.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic and memorable evening for our first visit to Rome
Upon entering, Chef Genovese greeted us as we passed the kitchen on our way to our table. Being Americans with limited Italian language skills, my wife and I were appreciative of how well the entire staff communicated with us about the menu and options. We chose the 8 course Orme menu and asked the sommelier to pair the wines. The food was incredible in both taste and presentation and the wines were superb! My wife and I talked about the Asian influence in several of the dishes which made more sense in talking with the staff about the Chefโs history. The creativity and progression of each course coupled with the beautiful presentations were phenomenal. At first I thought the staff might have been a little reserved but with increasing dialogue about each course the interactions became very light and funny. Upon leaving, we again waved goodbye to Chef Anthony. For us, the entire evening exceeded our expectations.
Be the first to ReplyFABULOUS PRESENTATION, LACK OF PERSONALITY
Presentation was exquisite. Food was exceptional and exotic. However, restaurant and staff lacked warmth. Robotic in nature. Although I would go back for the food, I would never go back due to the staff. I found it insulting that at this fine dining restaurant and spending close to 2000.00 for six people, a simple cup of coffee was not included.
Be the first to ReplyWorst gastronomique experience in my life!
Il pagliaccio means โthe clownโ, which summarises our experience at this terrible restaurant.
We got the 10 course menu with 6 wine pairing, but left at course number 7. The food was plain, uncooked and unedible.
After eating at over 100 michelin star restaurants I must say that this one is by far the worst! Maybe the kitchen staff all had CoVid, i dont know, but i left the restaurant famished. We had to eat at our hotel.
Also, we were seated at 20:30 but got our dirst course at 21:25, which contributed to our horrible experience.
The wine was really good, so kudos to the wine guy, really.
Worst restaurant experience in my life, to be honest. It is a dull, sad, tasteless tourist trap.
Guys! Please change your careers!!!
Excitement all the way!
Excitement is the most appropriate word to describe the evening.
We had the chance to meet the Chef and a talk with the restaurant manager understanding his background and ambitions for the future.
The wine cart is a journey itself, while I would love to see inside a Romanian wine in the future too.
The food was spectacular and the 2-3 dishes of Italian inspiration were a good fit.
I still do not know everything that we ate, but this is also due to me missing some culinary words in english. :)
Great service (i believe they were 3 staff per each 2 tables)
Thank you for the evening and for the experience!
PS. Maybe a bit too silent. I would put the music a bit lauder. Especially in the left/back part, where there are only 4 tables and there is no big natural / human noise.
