Indie Cafe Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
Tried Indie again after a year away.
Happy to report the food was decent this time--basil chicken was smoked caramel with the just the right amount of heat, and nigiri was nicely thick slabs of fresh fish. Missing the different types of roe they used to garnish with, and the pieces have gotten slightly smaller, but I appreciate that they are trying to keep down food costs without sacrificing quality. Glad they will fill an order close to 9pm, too!
The service was horrible.
The food was dry and the waitress refused to bring us more sauce for the tempura. She said we had had enough. We thought she was joking. Finally the waitress came back and I asked her about the sauce . She said the owner would get angry and besides she would have had to have charged us more. But she never gave us that option. I would have paid for it., even though that was not worth it.
I've been coming to Indie sushi probably since they opened.
I've had a lot of lovely meals- many choices and it appeals to a wide variety of friends and family whom I've brought here. Plus they have some amazing art. But recently Mya is our big reason for returning more often. She's so funny and personable and has turned us onto some sushi I wouldn't have tried before (Mod X)- this place is a win! They have a sweet out door patio too!
Everything here is always fresh and delicious.
One of my favorite places to get sushi takeout when I'm too tired to go sit down. Wonderful maki combinations. I've never eaten anything here that I didn't love.
Indie cafe sushi + Thai really is a different experience.
The ambiance really is nice it is very peaceful when you come in and sit down. The food is very good. I will recommend the chefs omakase really quality fish and you could taste how fresh it was.
We usually order take out.
Great variety with consistent my high quality. We order regularly from indie Cafe.

Ordered take out here, no meat ramen was inedible , smelled really bad . I couldn't bear to eat it. There were huge blocks of raw tofu and not too much else. I also got egg rolls which were disappointing as well. Crab Rangoon was good .
Food was great.
Service (waiter) not so because I decided to eat in. The cooks were great; the waiter on Thursday, 03/07/24- would not even look at me or offer a glass of water (the cook did it). Very rude tone when saying -next time make sure you say dine in (I am their frequent customer). Would not go back. Warm and pleasant with certain customers. Completely ignoring others (got for my basics:water and napkins)- no thank you or anything.

Alway delicious! A quality place to go for dining in or takeout. The vegetable maki and veggie ramen are delicious- perfect option for vegans/vegetarians.

Over the years, Indie Cafe has been amazingly kind and thoughtful in their service, and their food preparations and presentations always go above and beyond all of my expectations. From quadruple-checking whether or not a menu item is gluten-free, to recommending the best wine/sake pairings for an entrée, their staff have always ensured that I've left their restaurant knowing that I was appreciated as a customer. And welcomed as a friend. Given the quality of their sashimi, the creativity behind their menu, and the warmth in their hearts? I look forward to dining with them for many years to come.
Our party of three all had curry.
The Red Curry had great flavor, ask for it mild if you are sensitive to spice. The Panang was also good, as was the Signature Curry which had a lot of filling in the sauce, some kind of crunchy noodle, potato, some kind of squash along with chicken. Could have used more sauce with all the filling. The prices at Indie Cafe are relatively reasonable, considering restaurant prices these days. The ambiance on one side of the restaurant is somewhat lacking. It seems a little cozier on the side to the north. We parked right in front at a metered spot.
We love to visit Indie Cafe.
our family and family friends from Thailand missed Thai and Japanese food, Indie Cafe is the place to go. The Thai dishes are real local taste but not too spicy. Many sushi choices are fresh and in a fancy decorative style. The staffs are very friendly and good services. Very reasonable prices. When weather permits, sometime we like to sit outside enjoy nice Chicago weather. We visited Indie Cafe many times during our short visit. We definitely come back again anytime we come to Chicago. Great job, Indie Cafe.
I want to like this place but it has a few problems we
I want to like this place but it has a few problems we experienced over dinner. We had a party of six on a recent weeknight. Seated inside not on sidewalk cafe. Which looked nice but loud w/ Broadway traffic. As the sun came down the lights stayed low. Not a big deal but you need the phone flashlight. Water came. Big menu options. Sushi, Thai. Curries. We had a few appetizers. The broccoli gomae, veggie egg roll, spring roll, veggie tempura, chive dumpling were ok. We ordered dinner. Sushi maki roll came out kinda quickly. Then each diner had their meal brought out in a sequence time lapse. Kinda like the chef made one at a time. The kitchen spacing was weird. Made for uneven night. Not busy at the time. So it was not a good experience made worse when my ramen finally came out last after everyone was eating and it was the wrong order I requested. It was not that good either. The whole pre boiled egg was cold sitting in an ok broth. I don't feel the mgt cared. No one asked us how we liked our meals or wanted to come by and say "we're sorry your food is not coming out right away". Just staff socializing and hitting their social channels near bar.

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
