I saw a recent list on SF Eater of ramen places to try in the South Bay. Ippudo was on that list and several friends recommended it. So, on my last trip home, I just had to try it.It's located in Vallco Parkway along with a large variety of eateries and stores. This place can get extremely busy and parking is a premium so we arrived right as they opened for lunch. We were seated right away. After checking out the simple menu, I ordered the Akamaru Modern and my friend got the Karaage Rice Bowl. We decided to share the gyoza appetizer, which arrived promptly. It was one of the best gyozas I have ever tried . It was delicate, but flavorful. Our food arrived in a timely manner. My ramen is a pork broth with miso paste topped with pork chasu and kikuragi mushrooms. I'm used to a full bowl with the broth steaming hot. But Ippudo's was smaller and the broth was a nice temperature which can be easily eaten right away. I usually burn my tongue on the broth, but not this time. I added a soft boiled egg to my soup. I sampled the broth first and it was heavenly. Ramen broth can usually get very salty, but not Ippudo's. It was perfectly balanced umami. The noodles were thinner than I'm used to, but it was perfectly matched to the delicious broth. I ate every single thing in my bowl and I was one happy camper.I tasted my friend's karaage which was also different than what I'm used to. The batter was thicker and it was dusted with panko crust. The meat was thigh meat which made it really tender. The restaurant was simple but elegant. The servers were helpful since it was our first visit. They took our order quickly and our food came out shortly thereafter. We were able to enjoy our meal and got out before the lunch crowd descended. All in all, I was really impressed with the food and service. I will definitely be back as soon as I can.
