Proper traditional pub!
My friends and I visited this pub on a visit to Peebles. We went for a quick drink and stayed for ages! It’s a no thrills old school boozer. The bar staff are brilliant and the tunes and drinks flowed all night. It won’t win a style award but if you’re in Peebles and you need a drink this is the place!
Be the first to ReplyA decent example of a traditional Scottish bar.
We visited the Central Bar because reviews suggested that it was a simple, ordinary pub. I’m pleased to report that it is indeed a simple traditional pub. I can also advise that service is very good. The downside is that, because the bar area is very small, current regulations re table service only meant that we had to sit “round the corner” in effect, which meant we could hear the lively banter in the bar while staring at an empty corner. As such, the size and shape of the pub means that it probably suffers more than others in the town re maintaining a good atmosphere. We look forward to trying it again when things return to normal.

Not my normal type of pub but my husband and I went in for a drink while visiting Peebles. Bar maid was extremely friendly as were the locals and we thoroughly enjoyed the banter. Don't walk by, pop in and enjoy the company.

Being very cautious about going out I felt this bar was very covid safe and inviting. Lovely man on bar was so helpful and caring. Gave us treats for dog( insisting I gave her them) not him. Highly recommended for a few beers. Toilets clean and visualised lots of cleaning. Thanks and hope to visit again.

In Peebles for a mountain biking weekend. Stopped in for a pint of an evening and watched an England world cup game on the Sunday. Despite being the only English people in the bar everyone was very friendly. Decent choice of beer but obviously the Tennents was the lager of choice.

Popped in here for a drink whilst staying in Peebles on Wednesday night. One drink turned into another and another. Very welcoming, wasn't particularly busy but the drink was reasonably priced and the music that was playing was fab. Our barmaid was called Vicki and she was excellent. Would definitely recommend and go back if I am in the area.

Stopped into the Central bar friendly staff Greet you on arrival and food was first class would definitely go back. As the name suggests was near the centre easy to get to and staff very helpful suggesting What meals are like. Nothing seemed to much trouble for them. You are made to feel most welcome from the moment you step in the door till the time you leave

Be the first to ReplyFree chicken, when the rugby is on.
I think it is a small locals bar, but visitors are welcome. At the bar, a customer started chatting to my 68 year old girlfriend. We sat at a table, and a different customer came up and said hello, also to my girlfriend, being as she had pinched his newspaper. They had the rugby on the tv, and the manager brought round a massive tray of chicken portions, and you could help yourself. It is next door to a JD Weatherspoons pub/hotel, which was where we were staying for the night. We had just gone for a walk along the high street, and the girlfriend wanted to go into a real bar, for a real whisky, before we went back to our hotel for the night. It is not a cocktail bar, but it is warm and friendly, if you give it a chance.
