I haven't been to Juniper & Ivy in several years but the food is still amazing and inventive and it's still a standout in the San Diego Culinary scene. We came for my brothers birthday. The bartender was rude to me when I asked him about a drink but our server was amazing. We started with some bites the halibut hand rolls which we all loved and order multiple orders of. The shiso leaf is a nice complement to the fish and ponzu. We also had the mackerel which was interesting and beautifully presented. It almost tasted like the skin was crispy. We also had the beets- tasty but a standard dish. For mains we had the whole pink snapper and the duck. Both were exceptional. The duck was perfectly executed and I loved the sauce it came with. All in all a memorable meal and Juniper is still worth the hype in my book
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of my favorite restaurants in SD.
My wife and I love coming here!! They always provide great service and their food almost never misses. They change their menu often, which I love. I always get their halibut hand rolls and Their raviolo is amazing! It's always perfect when I've ordered it and we really loved their miso black cod. This place is a must try!
Be the first to ReplyMy wife is a foodie and she was here before and loved it.
We went with another couple. We ordered lots of stuff off the menu. Since I'm not a foodie, I had the hanger steak, which I loved (around $43). My wife got some kind of nachos, with pork rinds, and some other dish. She liked it, but didn't love it.My buddy and his wife, big foodies that come here often, got about 8 things off the menu. They enjoyed it all (although one item came with tomatoes and he's allergic so he had to send it back; menu didn't mention tomatoes, but they were nice and let the rest of us keep his dish). We all loved our desserts. The Yodel was perhaps, the best dessert I've ever had. My buddy had the sorbet, which he thought was okay.Obviously, the food is pricey. Obviously, it sucks trying to park in that area on a Saturday night. And the thing my wife and I found odd was -- too many people working there. So many people coming to our table to ask if everything was okay. You'd take a sip of water, and 5 seconds later, somebody is over filling your water glass. The 4 of us spent around $350, and that's without alcohol purchases. So if you're ready to spend the cash, and there's a foodie in your life you want to impress, this is the place to go. It's probably not for everyone.

I recently visited juniper and ivy in my travels from New York. I was interested because of some research around the Michelin Bib Gourmand achievement. We sampled plenty of dishes and were fully satisfied. I have nothing but good things to say about juniper and ivy, I will definitely recommend to friends.
Be the first to ReplyRestaurant is beautiful and personable service.
Got food poisoning from the hanker steak. Other people didn't get sick from their other food. I didn't realize people have gotten food poisoning from the steak and oyster. Def search their yelp history.
Be the first to ReplyJuniper and Ivy's ambiance, food, and service were all on
Juniper and Ivy's ambiance, food, and service were all on par. The only mishap that happened was they printed "Happy Birthday Jane" on my menu, then tried to correct it and printed out a "Happy Birthday Liz" (my name's Liv). Appreciate the effort though! My husband booked this place on a whim for my birthday and it was delicious. He had planned a second dinner afterwards so we didn't order too many things - mostly items from the appetizers / small plates. The beef tartare and the sturgeon dip was absolutely amazing. Tons of flavor and the toast that it came with was buttery and crispy. Our server mentioned that things on their menu come and go (and sometimes never come back) so we're definitely inclined to try Juniper and Ivy again next time we're in San Diego.

Food was outstanding! They mixed flavors that matched together perfectly! The desert was the best I've ever had. The meal itself was amazing! Get the hand cut noodles. Out of this world! Rainbow trout was great! I mean everything was good! Our waiter was awesome! Service was fantastic. Our water glasses were consistently filled. The atmosphere was so cool! I felt like I was in an art gallery. It was great! Would definitely go back next time I travel here.

Celebrated an anniversary here and they definitely made us feel special. We were greeted and wished a happy anniversary and got a complimentary half glass of champagne. We ate at the chef's bar, which was fun to watch them cook while we enjoyed our meal. Everything was delicious. Definitely a top contender for our number one restaurant pick in San Diego (Fort Oak being it's competition)La Primavera | Tequila and Lavender. It was very lavender forward but not overpowering. I couldn't even taste the liquor Rockfish Tostada | I have been on a raw fish kick the past few years and this didn't disappoint Sourdough Bread | Warm with the perfect amount of crust Pimento Cheese Donuts | Savory donuts severed with a cheese sauce to dip Gnocchi | I am not a huge gnocchi fan but Alexander thoroughly enjoyed this. Hanger Steak | Cooked to perfection, melt in your mouth steak. Served with purple potatoes. Raspberry Yodel | A must get to finish the meal. Elevated dip n dots encased in a chocolate shell and then drizzled with hot chocolate at your table. The only thing I thought was a little lacking was the potatoes. Everything else was very flavorful and enjoyable!

Juniper & Ivy is an excellent restaurant for dinner & large dinner parties. February 25th we had our 50th Wedding Annual dinner party. It was more than we could have asked for! The food is splendid. The service was perfect & everyone was very helpful. Everyone who attended could not say enough about how great the food was. Thank you for everything!! Sheilah & Harry Silverstein

I came here for dinner on a Thursday night, we had reservations made, but probably didn't need them. ย We got seated on the inside in the back. ย There is so much seating here, and the interior is so modern and gorgeous. ย This would also be a great place to come for drinks and just hang out at the bar as well. ย We ordered the liver dip, yellowtail tostadas, a tartare toast, beer battered morel mushrooms, white sea bass, and an uni linguine dish. The liver dip came with peanut butter cookies, they were good separately but together the flavor was a bit much for me. ย The ย yellowtail tostadas were delicious but they are $11 each, so please remember to order one for every person on your table, they are too small to split. ย The tartare toast was freaking delicious, it was unlike anything I have ever tried before. ย ย I really enjoyed the uni linguine dish as well, the chunks of chorizo were so tasty. We didn't order any drinks so our bill was $200, if we had ordered drinks the bill would easily have been $250 - $300. ย ย I highly recommend this restaurant for yummy foods with different flavors and combinations, it was a great experience !
Be the first to ReplyWe were disappointed.
The atmosphere was interesting. ย The time between courses was excessive. They were apologetic but it diminished the experience. We only liked 2 of our 4 items, and one of those was the sourdough. Our server was pretentious. Perhaps they were having an off night but with so many good choices, we won't be back.

This place should be called Juniper and Pricey because that is what it is! This weekend, friends and I gathered for a Bachelorette party and used the private room. For a private room and prefixed menu, you would think that 2 courses would not come out in the span of 3 hours. We were seated at 8pm and did not receive our first course until 8:50pm. The first course consisted of four dishes, with only a bite size serving for each person at the table. Not worth it! We finished our first course within minutes and were still starving. We were waiting for the second course to come out which did not come out until 9:30. Ridiculous wait times for a prefixed menu and a family style meal! The main dishes were okay and then came dessert which tastes like a key lime pie and a dish you can get elsewhere. By the time every dish came out and we were finishing up, it was nearly 11pm! This all came out to $195 a person! We did have a large party, but this covered only the prefixed meal and not the drinks! I cannot fathom how we each spent $195 for bite sized dishes that were not great. Truly a rip off and not worth it. Go elsewhere if you plan on spending nearly $200 per person on a coursed meal.

We tried this place for the first time and I was disappointed. The environment and the service itself was good but the dish was disappointing. I ordered the Alaskan Halibut dish with Manila clams which is why I am giving the 1 star rating. The dish itself was not bad, however, on my second bite I almost broke a tooth with the amount of broken clam shells in my dish. The clams in the dish were meant to come without shells as a bed for the fish. When I made the server aware, he was very sorry and sent a manager. The manager apologized and took the Halibut dish back and removed it from our tab. I do feel they should've comped my partners meal as well or offered me another dish free of charge. They restaurant basically only removed the charge of the inedible dish they served me.

Wow, this place lived up to the name and hype! I couldn't believe how busy it was before 6pm on a Saturday night. They were super accommodating even though we were late which I appreciated very much. My favorite dishes were the tostada, kanpachi crudo, carne cruda asada toast (had pizza and nacho vibes!), chicken dish, yodel with cold brew nitro, and guava-mango sorbet. Def wanna try the beets next time. My friend and I loved our experience. Server was great. Can't wait to come back next time I'm in San Diego!

Visit San Diego, pick up this restaurant from MICHELIN Guide. We tried some courses, the overall cooking level was good, fusion style, but lack of major style. Impressed by the desert--Yodel--colorful, rich in layers, gave the glittering and happy ending to our dinner.

Such a great time! We went for our anniversary and they even printed us menus that said Happy Anniversary! Everyone was so kind and so helpful! We got the sourdough, egg raviolo (I still daydream about the Calabrian chili butter), mushroom risotto, and the lamb meatballs! I was pregnant, so no alcohol for me but they brought us non-alcoholic champagne to toast for our anniversary. I also had a mock tail that I would happily sip on forever! Cannot recommend this spot enough!
Be the first to ReplyWe came for their anniversary tasting menu.
The wait between courses was so excessive we were here over two hours. The "uni linguine" had no uni on top, as the original dish did. We asked our server about it and she told us they just put it in the sauce to keep the tasting menu so cheap ($80 pp). I found it misleading and the food was pretty mediocre. Our drinks also sat empty for the last two courses. Get some fried chicken next door instead!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was just okay.
The service was less than okay. We had a party of five. We had two of their "signature" dishes. The ribeye for two, and the duck confit for two. The steak was very good and cooked perfectly. The duck was overcooked. We had dessert. Very disappointing. The atmosphere overall was good. Be ready for the airplanes coming in for a landing. It can get quite noisy if you eat in the patio area. Overall, three stars is appropriate. I wouldn't say that you get the full value of the cost of the meal and service.
Be the first to ReplyWent to Juniper & Ivy for a corporate dinner yesterday.
ย All the set dinner we ordered was good except one, so one of nine, I would say 89% approval rate for food. ย The white fish is a bit unimpressed compared to the rest. ย Drinks....I would say about the same rating, would be better with some more straight descriptions. ย Service was great. ย I would try with regular dinner menu if I have another chance, but for one time corporate experience +4 stars.

Loved our experience here! Came from DC and luckily found a reservation for our group. I will say I wish we did the chefs table so that we can try more! I recommend doing that if I were you. Oysters were solid, small. The spicy tuna was amazing! Wow wish we ordered more of those. I think each couple ordered a plate to share and we all thought it was so good. I got the spicy lamb sausage, our waiter highly recommended it. It was good, I think I should've went with my initial thought and try something the rest of the table wasn't getting. See what I mean about just doing the chefs table, get to try more! No room for dessert but also didn't find anything that caught my eye. Overall solid place! Again do the chefs table to try more options!
Be the first to ReplyGood food but extremely expensive for teeny tiny portions.
No tasting menu offered which a restaurant like this should have to allow you to taste the full flavor of the menu and make it an experience. Our waiter Travis did not smile even once, didn't ask if it was our first time in (it was and this is the type of restaurant where you may need some help with the menu), and had zero personality, seemed semi annoyed to answer our questions. I left still hungry with $300 less in my pocket.

The inside of the restaurant is modern and sleek with a lot of seating. The menu changes monthly so they say things are always different and yelp pictures won't help too much. We ordered a selection of 5 small plates to share between 3 people and felt it was enough food!- cauliflower: comes with salt and vinegar lentils which smelt very overpowering but actually tasted delicious - more of a stone ground mustard taste to me- squash & burrata: light seasoning, tasty- radiatori: one of my favorite dishes, there are thick cuts of what they call pork sausage but tasted like ham to me (not fatty at all) and I loved the cashew cream sauce- egg yolk raviolo: an egg yolk spills out when you cut it open, along with a cheese filling - also a favorite dish- Spanish mackerel: thought this was going to be a fried fish item, wasn't a huge fan - gave off anchovy vibes The cocktail menu was super pricey and nothing was calling to me so I made my own cocktail with mezcal, egg whites, and guava and it was good. Overall, all of the food was tasty, a little overpriced but enjoyed the meal!

This place is an absolute 10! So far one of my favorite restaurants. The food, the service, the ambiance, the drinks, everything was perfect while we celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary. I made reservations in advance. We got there and from the beginning everyone was so nice! We got sit right away and they printed the menu congratulating us for our anniversary (see the picture!).While waiting for our drinks, Kurt - who attended us the whole night - brought us some cava to celebrate and congratulated us again. He is hand down one of the best waiters we've ever had. He went thru the whole menu explaining how fresh the food is or even suggesting the best dishes to share. He was really professional and it never felt we were waiting for a while nor he was coming all the time - it was just perfect! The food...just seeing my pictures you can see how fresh everything is. We got the tostada (which was my favorite - the yellowtail was butter), linguine with uni and chorizo (super creamy and flavorful- my second favorite) and the White Sea bass (which was tender and cooked perfectly). Come and try yourself - so worth it!
