Taking advantage of inflation
We have been coming to this restaurant since the late 1980s. This visit was very disappointing. The prices had gone up substantially the portions had shrunk inversely to the increase in the price. The signature dish, fried chilli beef was All batter and had no meat in it at all, at least that could be identified . The noodles were mediocre. The other two main portions were very good. Prices have gone up generally, but this restaurant has taken advantage of the fact.

Service was excellent .Food was delicious and plentiful. Prices were a bit high but well worth paying.

I was there last week ordered with 5 other people 6 dishes they were perfect and not dry as others have commented! Staff were great! Mr Hans was perfect! Ambience was excellent. We received a discount! I believe without a doubt this is the best chinese kosher restaurant in England!

I would leave zero stars if I could for the Kaifeng (Glatt Kosher Chinese) ...Terrible! It’s not a “Place for a Simcha”, as they said… No way! The duck (!!!) was very, very dry and tasted like feet, and the eggplants were not cooked well… Service from start to finish was bad: I would say the worst customer service in London! It was overall, a very bad experience. Finally, they charged an exorbitant bill. So, the slogan for the Kaifeng should be - "Tasteless, Expensive, and Unpleasant"! Don’t spend your money there!!!

The soups were amazing. Chicken sweet corn and Wonton.we should have quit while we were ahead. The duck was tough. The noodles were tasteless.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, attentive service
I've said before that I think Kaifeng is possibly the best kosher restaurant in London, occasionally let down only by the boorishness of a tiny minority of other diners. On this visit we were able to enjoy the restaurant at its best and, like us, the friends we were with were extremely impressed by the ambience, food, and friendly, attentive service. They also remain incredibly Covid-secure, insisting on face masks , hand sanitiser and temperature checks. I like the decor, which is soothing woods and paintings, with deep carpeting meaning you can talk at the table without having to shout. I like that they have proper linens on and at the table, which all brings the experience up a notch. And I also like the fact that the owner is usually there, and his long-serving staff all get to know we 'regulars'. Kaifeng isn't cheap, but the tasty food is surprisingly filling and I don't think a cost of £39 each for a starter, main course, drinks and service is at all bad. We were so full there was no room for dessert! Remember to ask for your scratchcard when you pay the bill, as they run a promotion where each scratchcard can give you 15-100% off your bill.

My wife and I went to this restaurant this evening for our wedding anniversary. A special restaurant for a special anniversary. Everything was amazing from start to finish at Kaifeng. The staff are so welcoming and they really do care. The food was out of this world. It was absolutely amazing. Even the decor was very impressive.
We will definitely be back there. Thank you Kaifeng for making our anniversary so special
Excellent - despite the behaviour of some diners
Kaifeng is in a class of its own when it comes to kosher restaurants in London. It’s pricey (though ask for their discount scratch card for your next visit as it gives 15-100pc off) but worth it. Food is fresh and tasty and service (on fresh linen) attentive. Covid precautions are superb. The set menus are best value and we were very full after the mid-priced one (£48 each). The main courses were wonderful. The Chinese tea was perfect and refills free and plentiful. Drinks are otherwise expensive. There’s an ok selection for vegetarians and a good fish selection but this is primarily a meat restaurant. The staff also dealt well with the inconsiderate behaviour of a small number of guests, unfortunately all seated next to us. At one table they were loud, rude and sarcastic to staff and then started vaping inside the restaurant, joined by another chap who also started vaping. Illegal in the UK as well they knew. We too had to have words and they stopped (though then were sassy about us in Yiddish as they wrongly thought we wouldn’t understand). One young couple managed to move tables away from these gentlemen but no other table was available for the size of our party unfortunately. My advice is to sit downstairs where it’s quieter as the larger parties sit upstairs. But as I say, the staff dealt with these men effectively and professionally and our evening was not unduly affected as a result.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent, Covid-safe dining
Kaifeng isn’t cheap but the food is consistently good, the ambience is lovely and the staff friendly and efficient. We had one dish which wasn’t up to their usual high standards and we were immediately offered a replacement or for it to be taken off the bill. They made a real fuss of my wife (it was her birthday) which was lovely. The only downside was the brusqueness of some of the other diners, something I’ve not seen at Kaifeng before and which the Kaifeng team handled professionally and effectively. Their Covid controls are superb - temperature checks and hand sanitiser on arrival, team all wearing masks, tables and chairs thoroughly cleaned between use. And well ventilated (at least until some of the more dramatic diners complained they’d ‘die of cold’!).

Kaifeng isn’t cheap but it could well be the best kosher restaurant in London. It has strict Covid protocols in place with temperature checks on entry and a huge hand sanitising station. Its food remains as fresh, hot and tasty as we remembered from those pre-Covid days when we were last there, and it was lovely to renew our acquaintance with what felt like an old friend.
Well done Kaifeng and to its loyal, long-standing team, for keeping up its high standards even in these tricky times.
The best kosher restaurant in NW London
Some people have written some very negative reviews here. I don't know which restaurant they went to - perhaps they are just fussy belligerent folk, or perhaps they had an unfortunate experience, I don't know. I have never been disappointed by Kaifeng's food or service, though they can be busy.
Kaifeng is the best Kosher Restaurant I know.
The food is top notch and entirely Kosher and authentically Chinese.
Unfortunately they know they are the best, and they charge accordingly and remain busy. So only go if you are prepared to pay well for your meal.
We looked at a family celebration of my son's bar-mitzvah and decided we simply could not afford it.
Do check the web site and ask, as there is normally a discount of at least 10% as standard.
Most recently my wife and I went for our 30th wedding anniversary.
The staff appear to all be Chinese but strangely they have backed off from the Chinese decor they used to have and gone from some more western paintings on the walls. Also we were given chop-sticks, as soon as we asked, but the default setting was a knife and fork. Perhaps they know their clientelle and have found a lot of people don't like things too "strange".
COVID-19 precautions were satisfactory (we went during a lull in the pandemic).
Still a great restaurant if you can afford to eat there.
Doubly Great
A friend ordered a takeaway for us. Many times with takeaways the food loses some flavour. Not in this case. It was first class. We enjoyed it so much that we visited Kaifeng for lunch the following week. Absolutely wonderful.. The food was top class quality & the cocktails were very tasty. Service was very friendly. The precautions taken were very reassuring with masks worn by the staff, temperatures being taken & hand sanitation. It also has a 5 star hygiene rating. The cost might be a little higher than ordinary Chinese restaurants, but this is kosher food & Kaifeng is top quality & no ordinary restaurant. Will be having more takeaways & meals.

Decided we needed Chinese delivered so as a change from our usual opted instead for Kaifeng. The bill for two at just over £90 was correct and we did enjoy our meal but I don’t need another mortgage !
Be the first to ReplyWent with a friend. They
Went with a friend. They are very attentive about the virus and every time someone left the table they stripped it and sprayed all the chairs and tables and wiped everything down. All the staff are wearing gloves and masks. On entry they check your temperature and ask you to wash your hands. So far so good
The food. Portions are of a generous size and cooked to order. Chicken and beef dishes were exceptional and was everything else we had. Cocktails and also very good. It’s kosher so not cheap but honestly the food was great. The staff friendly and helpful. Restaurant tonight was busy and almost full but with tables spaced apart.
I can’t complain about any aspect and will be retuning very soon.
The people that have left poor reviews simply cannot be pleased on any level so please go and try for yourself
Good but not great
About 20 years ago this place was great. Living out of town, it’s been that long since I last visited, and it’s still good - but probably not great anymore. The food was good, with plenty of choice, and my starter of chicken spring rolls was good (although a slightly small portion), as was my main course of pineapple chicken. The whole family was happy with their choices, but the service was a bit haphazard. So, I had finished my starter by the time my son’s arrived (we had to chase for it - there had been some mix-up in the kitchen), and it was difficult to attract attention from the staff when we were wanting to lay the bill and leave.
You couldn’t fault them for their attention to social distancing measures, though - staggering arrival times (you ad to ring from the car outside), testing temperatures, enforcing hand-sanitizer etc - fair play to them. It’s just a pity that the staff weren’t a bit less socially distant towards the end of the meal!
Maybe life has moved in since the halcyon days when Kaifeng ruled the roof - or maybe we just caught them on a particularly busy ‘Eat Out To Help Out’ night.
