So sad to know tomorrow will be the last day of the chef.
.. we have come to this place for more than 10 years and will definitely miss the chef. Thank you for taking care of our tummy for many years.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance and service.
Food is great for the price. I like to go here with my friends whenever I want sushi in Bay Area.
Be the first to ReplyCute little homestyle Japanese restaurant.
Overall, the food here is solid and homey, and a nice little quiet spot to get dinner. For dinner, when you enter, the lights are dimmed, and there's actually plenty of seating. We were seated immediately and it was maybe 50% full. We were informed that the kitchen was extremely busy and thus we should consider ordering as soon as possible. A little odd for the kitchen to be that busy when only half the restaurant is filled and over half of the current patrons already have all their food out.The prices are a little bit of a premium for what you're getting which means this is a spot you'd probably only come once in a while to get some authentic dishes you can't really get elsewhere. They have a wonderful menu that hits a lot of japanese comfort food.I wouldn't recommend getting sashimi here as it's expensive for what you get... the quality wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either... this spot is more for the other dishes, from curry to hot pot.The workers all speak Japanese and a handful of diners were also japanese. They spoke japanese to each other in which hearing that at a Japanese restaurant is always a good sign!Recommended! but not for sashimi.

This place has such a classy, calming street presence, I've been wanting to go for years. Finally took the plunge, and wasn't disappointed! Had katsu and unagi don, so can't speak to the sushi, but everything was plated gorgeously, and very much enjoyed the sake flight offering. Prices seemed reasonable, quality was solid (though not amazing), and the atmosphere was approachable but warm. Great service, as well!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious! Extensive and authentic Japanese menu.
Had the bento with the tempura as a main. Well worth it. Looking forward to returning to try more.

One of the many Japanese restaurants in Downtown Mountain View! I visited with my sister for a quick lunch. The general ambiance of the restaurant was okay, it did feel a bit dark but our server was really kind and food came out quickly. We ordered the Salmon Ikura Don ($21) and Unagi Don ($22). Both came with a side of salad and miso soup which tasted pretty good. The quality of fish here was great - it tasted pretty fresh, and had just the right amount to fill up the both of us.The food didn't quite blow me out of the water, but still was quite good so I'd give it a 3.5 overall.

I am thoroughly pleased how great this authentic izakaya is on the unassuming Castro St of Mountain View. The food here is awesome. My sake avocado roll is thicker than my thighs. The black miso cod was good; not the best I've had but good in a pinch. The chirashi don w/ miso soup was incredible for the price.Kappo Nami Nami is Castro St's best kept secret. No frills & authentic Japanese food. Come here for a quiet yet intimate Japanese culinary experience.

My first time at this place and I was quite lost at the long menu, so I just picked out the Nigiri set to try out the quality of sushi here. The fish didn't look very appealing, but the taste was spot-on. The sushi was prepared professionally with the right amount of rice and fish. The rice texture was perfect and the fish cut was diligent. The fish was actually fresh and delicious (for 36 dollars I wouldn't expect super quality and rare type), and I even liked the egg sushi very much. I would say that this place is quite authentic. The Japanese chef talked to the Japanese customers from his station, so the atmosphere seemed traditional to me. 1 star off because I felt a bit neglected at the beginning. After giving me the menu the waitress didn't offer me any water but did so to a table next to me and they came after me. Perhaps they asked for water but it's still weird. Later on, she tried to make it up by giving me more tea. I guess it's very busy and a lot of work for 2 waitresses so they may not always be attentive. I think the service can be better and I wanna come back to try something else. Ah the tea was very nice and it's free.
Be the first to ReplyThey used to have a sushi lunch menu but not any more.
Despite of the price, we ordered 9 piece Nigiri in the end expecting to eat a wonderful sushi.Toppings were nice and fresh, however, rice was dry, hard, and some grains were undercooked. The shape was uneven too. It was not Nigiri, just a tiny ball of rice. Even kids can make something like that. Miso soup was watery and lukewarm. Absolutely terrible.Service was lacking of details and not friendly at all.It was very expensive and definitely wasn't worth paying for this bad quality. It was so disappointing and we will never come back.
Be the first to ReplyMy girl friends and I met up for dinner at Kappo Nami Nami.
We planned to meet around 7pm on a Saturday night. One of our friends got there before us, so she put her name down on the waitlist. By the time the remaining of us arrived (15 minutes later) we had our table. The good thing was that we didn't have to wait incredibly long to be seated, however we were situated all the way in the back corner of the restaurant. We were neglected often. Even the guests in the neighboring table sympathized with us and tried to grab the attention of the wait staff for us. In general, I felt that our waitress just wasn't present. We specifically asked for warm sake, for example, but she came out with clear shot glasses and cold sake. She disappeared for a while, so we had to flag the first waitress we could garner attention. Food was fine and pretty standard. I ordered agedashi tofu and a shrimp/veggie tempura platter.
