Service still great and food came quickly. Took any an hour for the whole meal. Everything tasted great especially for the price. The ootoro, scallop, sea bream and aji were particularly good. Be the first to ReplySuch a great omakase (chef's choice) experience.
Sushi quality was amazing, rice was seasoned with dry aged vinegar, service was superb. No complaints at all, just a fun, amazing experience. Lunch is $100+, but totally worth it.

The fish is on par with 100 omakase but the service was NOT GOOD! They had hair in my sushi... never apologized and that girl just gave me attitude ?! Who are you ?! I had better omakase and fish before, we drove from LA, it's not worth 30 mins drive to that area .. omakase at little Tokyo tasted better if you live in the city like me ..DONE
Be the first to ReplyWe came here for lunch omakase.
It was wonderful. It was 12 courses (I believe). Everything was delicious!! It is a small and intimate place so the experience is very nice. The waitress and the chef were exceptional. Looking forward to coming back to try their dinner selection!

Simple omakase. Service was impeccable. Get a reservation at the bar to be served by one of the 3 sushi chefs.

Made a reservation for Hubby's birthday and we both enjoyed the experience and food so much! Honestly, we are so happy to have an omakase restaurant closer in our area. We made the reservation online and paid a deposit. The deposit is refunded when you arrive for your reservation. The chefs are all so amazing, talkative, and funny. Would love to come back for their dinner set.Location in the Kohl's plaza, parking is easy to find and entrance is only through the front.

My friend celebrate her birthday at this restaurant. They kick us out of the restaurant because they said we are not RESPECT the chef! We just sit and eat food. WTF how are we not respect? Don't ever go there! Also I found out we are not the first time that the chef kick people out. What the bad experiences

Me and my friend were just casually eating and talking on a respectful volume, and the chief all the sudden decide to kick us out. I been in Japan for more than 10 times and ate some real authentic omasaka and more here in California, never heard something like " you guys don't belong to restaurants like this"

Good lunch omakase but could be better!Just like the other reviews said, Kogane is a solid restaurant for omakase. The quality is amazing, but could improve on the menu. The dining experience could have been elevated with a dessert but they only ended with tamago (slightly sweet egg). We joked about seeing a dessert menu and the waiter said they had black sesame ice cream. If they have it, possibly it's only for dinner omakase..? Anyways, I still think lunch omakase should have a small dessert for the price point you're paying and it would definitely complete the experience. A great thing about Kogane is that they know their sake. We got great recommendations from the waiter to try a fruity sake and it didn't disappoint. Overall, really love the fish quality and service... but would've been better with dessert!

We made a reservation on tock for lunch on Saturday 12:30 pm, table seating. We arrived right on time and got seated at our table. There were 6 other people sitting at the bar already. The restaurant had 3 other tables (2 person) that were empty during the entire duration of our meal, guess they are not that busy for lunch on the weekends. We got served 12 pieces of sushi, 1 appetizer bite, and 1 hand roll. It was filling enough but the sushi pieces were definitely smaller in size. Maybe they make their sushi smaller during lunch vs dinner would be bigger, I am not sure. I mean lunch omakase is only $100 per person compared to dinner at $250+. I think sitting at the bar is probably more fun because you can interact with the chef. All of our sushi just seem to come out directly from the kitchen in plates of 3 pc sushi at a time.

An absolutely superb omakase experience! Every detail was impeccable, from the Japanese mackerel without vinegar brine to the rich, scrumptious Hokkaido uni sushi. Outstanding quality throughout the meal, with enlightening and enthusiastic descriptions in between.Truly on a different level than anything I've had remotely close by except for Sushi Ginza Onodera. Highly recommend!!

She had come in February and immediately made a reservation for June. It's super clean and modern, and you're enveloped in Japanese hospitality the moment they welcome you inside. The chefs treat you like you just walked into their home and the staff members are all equally warm and friendly. The plates and bowls are thoughtfully and beautifully chosen to match the beauty of the food they serve. All of the ingredients are seasonal and fresh for bites that will tantalize your taste buds and stay in your memory long after the meal is over. We loved watching the chefs create each dish with unmatched love, precision and artistry. Did you know that the perfect sushi rice ball is 200 grains? We know these guys are legit because one of the chefs put one grain of rice back when it wasn't right! ONE! Please don't come here if you value quantity over quality. You will be disappointed! This is a very memorable omakase experience that isn't for the typical American palate. Easy parking is definitely a bonus! We will definitely be back!

Ok, so today's my Birthday and finally got reservation (lunch easier than dinner) at Kogane and can confirm the hype about this 5 month new Omakase Sushi Oishi aka Delicious indeed! The Name Card is a very nice touch and feels special VIP the minute you walk in and walked out of there very satisfied. Don't know how I can possibly have the 20+ dinner set though that offers abalone.

Great new sushi restaurant in the east side of LA where you typically wouldn't be looking for sushi. They serve lunch and I was able to stop by to try their 12 course omakase menu ($100). Great selection of fresh fish with thoughtful enhancement of flavors with different varieties of sushi rice depending on the flavor of the fish, nice clean space and the sushi bar area looks very upscale. I hope I can try their full dinner menu next time.

Came here for lunch with my wife to celebrate our anniversary. The only option here is Omakase for $100pp. We got seated at the bar which I HIGHLY recommend since you get to chat with the chef and see all the fish getting prepped and handed to you. The fish quality is excellent - no question there. But this is definitely on the pricey side. Its worth coming on special occasions. Beautiful restaurant too.

For those who give 5 stars or wondering it's worth it, you probably should try Better options with superb omakase with amazing service -N-naka, Hayato, Sushi Q, Sushi Zo, all of them I've been to several times. You are fools if you think you need to be kissing up to great sushi chef. Art with food is a communal experience. The chef's art is only worthy when received well. That takes heart.
Be the first to ReplyBEST NEW OMAKASE IN LOS ANGELES!Every.
Bite. Is. Heaven.Kogane aims to provide its guests the true taste of nature using unadulterated ingredients and time-honored traditions. Head Chef Fumio-san and Executive Chef Kwan-san seek to redefine traditional Edomae-style sushi, where the freshest fish and shellfish are given minimal treatment. Unlike other styles of sushi-making, this approach brings out the food's natural flavors and oils.Go on YouTube to watch my video on Kogane!Kogane wows with a extraordinary 20-course omakase meal featuring produce from their direct contacts in Japan. The quality of the ingredients and skillful way of preparation are breathtaking. For example, using Akazu (Red Sushi Vinegar) which has been aged for 5 years as the seasoning for the rice, arguably the most single most important element of sushi. Akazu is a critical element of Edomae-style sushi and helps elevate the palate, bringing a deep, flavorful taste full of umami to sushi rice. The clever aging makes the fish exquisitely flavorful. Kogane is definitely a worthy and exciting addition to the LA sushi scene and is already seeing strong bookings 1-2 months out. This is a sushi place for PURISTS. So for all you sushi snobs, come to Kogane ASAP to have a gastronomic experience. I was hesitant to post this video/review so quickly because I don't want to fight with others over reservations.Kogane currently seats 8-10 people per seating (first seating at 5:45pm and the second at 8:15pm) for their dinner omakase. Good luck trying to score a reservation if you wait too long. This hidden gem is unlikely to stay hidden for very long. My sixth sense think 2 Michelin stars isn't too far fetched. It's better (and way cheaper) than Michelin 2 Star Restaurant, Sushi Ginza.
Be the first to ReplyI came here for a birthday dinner, 8:15pm seating.
It was over 20 courses served (if you count 1 nigiri as a course), and probably half the meal was not just nigiri. The food was excellent. Zero complaints. The two chefs serve the meal together, and they are hilarious to interact with. Their manager Jon provided the service for all diners (only 7 at each seating) and service was impeccable. They went over and beyond what I expected in every way.Their dining room is beautiful. The restaurant is in an atypical location though, an Alhambra strip mall, next to Subway and Starbucks. No valet; just park in the strip mall lot and walk to the front door. Dont be fooled though, this is a high-end Omakase sushi place. The one difference from most other similar places in LA is it does not have the pretentious vibe. Everything from their service to the jovial nature of the chefs is very easy going and approachable. You never feel as if you would offend them if you ate the food the "wrong way" although they do make recommendations on how to eat certain dishes. If I had to criticize something, it would be the chefs' absence of the traditional "pedigree" of sushi chefs, e.g. "i spent 2 years making only rice in Tokyo and the next 20 training" etc etc. In LA, many of the other high-end Omakase places have such pedigrees. But does it really matter when the entirety of their product (food, service, dining experience in general) is exceptional? The chefs are very open about their backgrounds and how they got into the sushi business, and it actually led to interesting conversations over the course of the meal.Go eat here ASAP, before they get their Michelin stars and a reservation becomes impossible to get.

Kogane reminds me of my recent experience at Morihiro (Atwater Village). Gorgeous sushi bar, the wood, lighting are quite elegant. Another commonality is the dedication on rice and use of vinegar.Located in a quick and go plaza a crossed East LA Regional Center, Kogane can be a quick and go upscale lunch! To Be Continued
