KOJO Sarasota Reviews from The Last Year
Oh my god this place is outstanding.
Go there. Enjoy every moment. I'm vegan and I absolutely loved it.
Fancy spot.
Usually busy. This was my third attempt to get a table without much of a wait which resulted in an outdoor table on the street. Service was great and made up for the standard setting. Food was good. Small portions meant for sharing. Very expensive. 2 pieces of nigiri range from $16-18, which is pricy. Red Plum offers like quality and creativity at a much better value. Smoked Salmon and Snapper specials were good here. I would order the Snapper special (like a ceviche), wasabi Cesar salad, and blue crab California roll again. Those were excellent. Shrimp Bao (fishy fish patty flavor was not good. Kampachi Nigri. Delicious but too expensive for the result. Scallop Taco. Creative and good. Price point was reasonable. Cesar Salad with Wasabi dressing (This was awesome! rich wasabi flavor. highly recommend.) Blue Crab California (Roll) was my favorite and I'm a sushi frequent flyer, and not a traditional CA roll fan at all. This is a next level creation with lots of flavor. Nice presentation. Miso Cod, smaller portion. But great flavor making up for the cod. If this was a local fresh fish, it would be next level. Kimchi Rice was overcooked and underwhelming. But the presentation was nice.
I always been there a lot.
But I went recently and no boiled oysters anymore and the taste of the food is not high quality like before and lukewarm food. Sad why this happens.
The sushi was excellent here.
We had the Toro and Tuna Akami, both were well prepared. We also had the Kojo roll, the Nori tacos, and salmon crispy rice. All were excellent. The hot plates were good, but not on level with the sushi. The noodles were mushy, but the fried rice was very good. The wagyu ribeye was not worth the $118 price tag. It was good but not that good. The chimichurri has an odd mint taste. Service is also kind of slow. Otherwise, it was still an enjoyable experience and I love the area.
We have been several times.
Always delicious and a great celebration. Ordering several options to taste everything and sharing.
Cute place for date night.
It is definitely on the fancier side with high price point. Everything tastes amazing. Service is also good
amazing food with great quality.
love the ambience, perfect for a date or intimate special occasion. their sushi rolls are amazing, as well as their noodles and spicy edamame. bao buns w mushrooms were a bit overpowering. would 100% recommend their crispy tuna taco. wish they had separate fryers for meat vs seafood vs non meat items so i could enjoy more as someone with dietary restrictions
One word.
WOW. Second time here and if it was up to me I would dine here weekly! Food is amazing and service is quick. The drinks were good too.

To say I am a foodie is an understatement, I can also be picky. Long story short, I've been all over the country (grew up in CT, live in CA) and Kojo is phenomenal. I was having a hard time finding a great spot in Sarasota believe it or not. Luckily I brought my family to Kojo, the food and service was amazing. I also really want to shout out our awesome waiter Octavian!!! Simply put a great guy, who made the experience exceptional. I don't really write reviews but this was a dinner worth noting !!! Thanks to Octavian, and all the staff at Kojo
First off, I very much enjoyed my first visit to Kojo.
The atmosphere was great and I thought the space was really well put together. The service was second to none, we had everything we needed and our server Andreea was very attentive. The food also came out very quickly. For the food itself, Kojo had an enjoyable take on Asian cuisine. The Kojo roll was delicious and a great sharing size. We also ordered the spicy Edamame which was a very generous portion. I wouldn't change a thing about those two items. As for the bao buns, the chicken karaage was perfect, I thought the ratio of cucumber and sauce was balanced, the bao bun itself could have been a bit thicker. It was not the best bun I've ever had- I'd expect a more pillowy and puffier one for the price. The Torched Salmon Crispy Nori tacos were a little lacking. They were almost disappointing because they lacked any kind of sauce, crema, or the like. The salmon was cooked perfectly (to a medium temp). It wasn't until after I thought to dip the taco into the soy sauce left over from our sushi that I really enjoyed them. Once I did that, they were livened up. Overall, 5/5 service. 3/5 for the food because of the reasons mentioned above coupled with the price of the food.

I normally don't take the time to leave Yelp reviews but I have to say, we were so disappointed with our experience at Kojo. We went for my husband's birthday this past Friday. Most of the meal was just really badly executed. Starting with the edamame which was so over-steamed it was actually mushy. We also ordered the wings which were over fried and dry, one was actually chatted pitch BLACK (inedible) on the underside. We showed it to the server and asked for a new wing to replace it which took over 15 mins to bring out (one wing, they did not offer a replacement app). By then they had cleared the plates and we had no dipping sauce which took another 15 mins to bring out - with my husband needing to get up and track down a server to ask for it several times. By then the wing was cold. The jalapeño yellowtail hamachi was not near the quality I've had at other sushi restaurants (small sad pieces, too thin and lightly brown cut - not the quality or as fresh as you'd expect for this dish), and the sushi rolls were falling apart (not rolled well at all). The meal was over $300 with tip for 4 people. The quality and execution was not worth the price paid (or really any price for that matter), sadly. Maybe it was an off night, but I have to say, we were completely underwhelmed :-( .

Wow! So impressed with everything we tried! The menu is designed to be shared among diners and everything comes out when it's ready from the kitchen at separate times. The inside is so beautiful as well as the drinks! Alex our waitress was knowledgeable on the menu and so sweet! The food was so fresh and came so fast, they even had a home made soy sauce! The attention to detail in the table setting was not missed it was so cute. I can't wait to come back here and try more!!
MAKE A RESERVATION! Only reason why they're not getting 5
MAKE A RESERVATION! Only reason why they're not getting 5 stars is because we walked in as soon as they opened and we didn't have a reservation so they sat us at a tiny table, even though it was completely empty and there were many table options. I mean it was so small I don't think you can fit two meals on the table at the same time. Other than that though the service was immaculate! Our waitress was so kind and she checked up on us constantly. The food was also delicious! We got the salmon tacos and it was one of the best things I've ever had! We also got the miso soup and the fire cracker shrimp appetizer and loved that as well. I would for sure come back, just with a reservation!
Fresh and good quality Asian food & drinks! Very nice
Fresh and good quality Asian food & drinks! Very nice service and atmosphere too. We enjoy the sushi & saki. So glad they use unbleached flour!
Mehhhh
Not consistently good. One sauce on all Asian food regardless of dish platter. Expensive night out with guests every dish was mehhh the only exception was bao buns. Excellent however the drinks are too expensive by far the food oddly couldn't be customized. Couldn't add spice for spicy guest couldn't make mild for mild guests. The lamb was so small for price I felt like asking for meat with my bone. The flavor was good but my party my friends actually mocked it that's all you get? For the money they could at least make the plate appear more substantial by putting small portion on a tea saucer to trick you into thinking its a decent portion. Or sprinkling condiments on plate so you can fill up on arugula.
Make it make sense
Very disappointing. From off smelling wine glasses, tiny portions (for the amount charged), and the thinnest soy sauce dishes - no soy on the table to refill - it just doesn’t make sense. We eat out frequently in Sarasota and just left shaking out heads.
Reservation system defective. Don’t bother
The reservation google system made it impossible to make a reservation. They have some terrible google system that makes it so complicated I had to give up.
Amazing night out with friends celebrating a 40th birthday!
I went o Kojo to celebrate my friends 40th birthday! This restaurant has great atmosphere for an amazing night out. Amazing food, service and drinks!
This restaurant is a MUST

Great, Eclectic Asian Influenced Menu
My wife and I had reservations here right before a show at Florida Studio Theatre which is conveniently located a block away. The woman who cuts my hair is a "foodie" and raves about Kojo. So we took this opportunity to try it. I'm a big fan of Asian cuisine but my wife, not so much. I had to twist her arm. Neither of us were disappointed. Theirs is a very interesting menu and gorgeous atmosphere full of beautiful people. Our waiter, Jason, was attentive and good for advice. I like sushi but wanted something a little heartier since it was an early dinner pre-theater. We started by sharing two Fried Chicken Bao Buns which Jason said were popular. They were superb. The buns we've had before in Chinatown and elsewhere are generally closed but these were open faced. They actually made for a hearty appetizer. He steered me towards Spicy Wagyu Noodles and we also ordered a Shanghai Noodle Dish so we could share. Of the two, we actually preferred the Shanghai style because the pork was super tender and less spicy for my wife's palate. We could barely finish our noodles. We came away from dinner stuffed and couldn't even think of dessert. My cocktails - a Negroni and a Manhattan with Rye straight up were very well made. One of the other waiters waltzed the Manhattan filled to the brim of the glass across the room without spilling a drop. Now, this might just be me, but the only minor complaint I have is the banquette seats were kind of hot - Naugahyde? pleather? In fairness, it's August here in Florida and we are experiencing a heat wave. But the rest of the restaurant was cool. Anyway, I can't wait to come back and try the sushi.
Great food
We were lucky to get a last minute reservation for our party of seven. Great atmosphere, food and service. My only regret is that we were on a time crunch. Great place to come with a group as they serve food as it comes ready, so sharing and trying a bunch of different things is encouraged as well and ordering as you go. The salmon and spicy tuna tacos were outstanding! We also had a roll, tuna pizza, edamame, udon noodles, miso soup and both bao buns. Also very good. Benny our server was very attentive and fixed a mistake in one of the dishes as quickly as possible.
Creative take on asian fusion
The most important thing...excellent food! We came in for a quick dinner before a performance around the corner at the opera house. I had the Bao buns....a fusion of chinese buns, with korean kimchee, and crunchy chicken. Wow. Tuna pizza was also delicate and excellent. Great place to share plates. Service was friendly and efficient...couldn't ask for better. Will be back!

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
