Not as good as it once was.
Really disappointing. Cold pizza sent back my mother’s pasta was greasy and tasteless. It seemed liked everything was pre-made and heated up. Tiramisu completely unremarkable. Go to other Italian restaurants in the area.

Just around the corner, humble and understated is a totally authentic Italian restaurant. We where greeted like family, treated like friends as we enjoyed a long lazy lunch. The food was fast, hot and magical. The beer was perfect and for me, started the meal with aplomb. We ate beautiful food, made with love served swiftly and packed with Italian wow-ness. We ate, drank and repeated. So so so good. Loved it.
Be the first to ReplyAtmospheric, authentic italian albeit expensive for the food and service quality
Interesting concept behind the group's restaurants is that Italian grandmothers (nonnas) do a residency at the restaurant and create a menu based on the classic dishes of the region of Italy they come from. I visited when the restaurant was showcasing the Emilia Romagna region. Upon being seated, and before ordering, we were served fresh bruschetta followed by risotto alla genovese. The bruschetta was delicious whilst the risotto was quite claggy and cold. We tried to order some wine and were told that our two choices were both out of stock before having to order a third variety which was significantly more expensive which was a shame. It took ages for the wine to come. The menu is quite complicated with different set menus entailing a combination of antipasti / pasta / pizza / mains / desserts depending on what you choose but was poorly explained by the staff. Assuming the bruschetta and risotto were the 'antipasti' included in the set menu we opted for that each which was £41 for antipasti, pasta or pizza, and dessert as well as a glass of prosecco. The prosecco took ages to come, arriving after our wine. In fact the antipasti was in addition to what we had already received and therefore it was wholly unnecessary to order the set menu when we could have just moved onto mains. The antipasti was a sharing board including fish & potato stew, cured meats, burrata, ragu, bread, caponata, stracciatella. The ragu was nice but would've been happy without the rest. We ordered 1x cacio e pepe and 1x ragu for mains, however, the staff brought 2x cacio e pepe. So that we could eat together, both mains were sent back, however, when they came back the second time, the cacio e pepe had clearly just been microwaved instead of remade and was claggy and unpleasant. For desert, you don't get an option but instead are served a sharing board of tiramisu, chocolate cake and cheesecake - we were so full by this point we didn't want any and also thought we would get to choose a dessert rather than being served all 3 (we didn't like 2 of them to begin with). The atmosphere was great with 'nonnas' often coming over to explain the food or serve up side orders like the bruschetta (which we now know were complimentary - not explained well). Overall the food was mediocre and the menu was poorly explained resulting in too much food ordered (did not need the set menu) and the dinner being very expensive. The wine selection was slim and what they actually had in stock was expensive. Our mains were incorrect and then when served correctly, they were cold and unappetising as were the desserts and the restaurant did nothing to compensate for this. Tables are very close together and it is difficult to hear. Also check your bill as they included various random and incorrect charges on ours.

The only thing Italian about the food was in some of the names. Tried a few of the dishes and they simply lacked taste. Italian food for people that don’t know any better. Was served pasta in a frying pan! Offer this to any Italian mamma and you would be getting chased.

We had a wonderful experience, not only because of the delicious food, but because of the service from Mamma Marta and Antonio. Antonio was such a knowledgeable and attentive waiter and very friendly and Mamma Marta was so warm and genuine and of course, a brilliant cook! We had the 3 course menu. The starter is a mixture of Italian dishes and for our mains, we chose tagliatelle bolognese and lasagne and they were both delicious. We look forward to going back when we are in London again.

We went after watching Stanley Tucci's series about London. Man were we not disappointed. The Mama was fro the Puglia region and the food was spectacular, service spot on. If you go to any of there locations in London one recommendation is....come hungry!

This was exactly what we were looking for. Excellent traditional Italian food made by Italian mammas! The staff was excellent as well. Maria made the experience and treated us like family. Would definitely recommend.

Maria was amazing, she is so lovely and the food is delicious - I had the tuna salad. La Mia mamma is a lovely place to spend a warm evening in London. A rare find with a real charm.

One of the nicest meals I’ve ever had in the city. A lovely atmosphere so hard to believe you’re still in Chelsea! The staff work so hard and provide great service.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Italian, love the concept, love the food, love the vibe.
I have never left a restaurant so full up, I was told by my half-Italian friend I went with that's to be expected when being fed by Italian Mothers. If you go here expecting fine dining then you will disappointed. This a restaurant trying to replicate dining with an Italian family. Now onto the food itself. The Menu changes every 3 month to a different region this time it was Emilia Romagna. So the dishes I mention below may have changed by the time you visit (Which I suggest you do). I and 2 other friends were originally going to choose the £40 deal they offer but having looked at the menu we ended up going for the £51 deal. We did not regret it. The antipasti board was amazing the real star were the meatballs (obviously). I had for the Pasta dish, Tagliatelle alla Bolognese which was rich and sooo tasty. For my main I had “Brodetto” di pesce con crostini aromatizzati alle erbe, which was a seafood in tomato and garlic broth I love my garlic so loved this dish. As if I hadn't had enough food they then brought a pudding platter out, with one of the best tiramisu I've ever tasted (I presume authentic as well). I will be going again! Top tip: I would plan a walk or run the next day to burn all the food, I'm writing this the next day and I'm still full.

Like many others, we booked on the back of the Tucci series but left disappointed. The antipasti was more miss than hit with luke warm meatballs, fatty ham and some strange cheese based dishes. The ragu and pesto/pistachio mains were the highlight and very good, although one pasta was rigatoni (?) and definitely not orecchiette as billed. Dessert was a disaster, a sharing plate of sickly chocolate bombe, a couple of tiny pieces of apple cake which tasted of tia maria and some cold broken fried dough. Service was far too rushed with three courses served in barely an hour. Expensive for what it was. A real letdown.

We made a booking and had to put down a £25 deposit. Unfortunately, the restaurant overbooked and took in too many walk ins. With only one chef and one waiter the situation was dire and the service terrible. A real let down.

Maria and the rest of the staff at La Mia Mamma were both helpful and personable. From providing me with a takeaway box when I couldn't eat all of the delicious pasta, to making great recommendations on desserts - the team really made the experience. Plus the Italian Disney playlist provided a great ambience. Would love to go back and have recommended to friends already

Such a nice evening, came here with my partner for his birthday. Very lucky as we found in the menu the italian region we come from - Sardegna - we love that concept. The team is friendly and welcoming, especially Maria, she was prepared and followed us with a good manor and professionality. We will come back!! Grazie a tutti & grazie mamma for everything!! Food is poor in quality (pasta not al dente, just straight undercooked; sauces watery) and so achingly overpriced (£4.50 for a bread basket of a few squares of focaccia…come on). The “mamma” thing appears to be a gimmick. I saw them knead a few bits of dough before going outside for a natter and smoke. From what I can see they certainly didn’t prepare our meal. We went here basis the Stanley Tucci show - don’t fall for the same thing. One positive were the nice and friendly front of house and waiting staff. Otherwise my piece of advice - rather than disappoint yourself with a poor £18 Caccio E Pepe and £4.50 bread basket here, try some actual classic Italian food in a far nicer atmosphere at Cecconis in Mayfair where the Caccio is £23 and the bread basket is free….

I really enjoyed this restaurant and will make sure I’ll go again soon. I had the best Melanzane alla Parmigiana and Cacio e Pepe that I ever had in London. The service was great too, especially by the wonderful Ariana. The cooking was homemade indeed, and I didn‘t find this place “gimmicky” at all, as some reviewers have remarked.
Be the first to ReplyStanley Tucci should revisit his recommendation - I will not be returning….
Always enjoying the rare experience of being invited by Italian friends to sample their family cooking I was so excited to find that a restaurant claiming to serve food by Italian mammas had opened in my area, but what a disappointment! Despite a friendly but chaotic welcome, I could see some older Italian women were loitering at the entrance of this crowded spot, keeping the dream alive. But I lost hope when the much vaunted antipasti arrived. Large but poor quality - I should have gone to M&S. The main course was worse, suckling pig that was basically chewy skin and fat. The ‘home cooked’ deserts were the final insult - a spoon full of sweetened ricotta and a broken up chocolate biscuit. No Italian mother I have ever met would offer such rubbish to a guest. The wine was also very poor value. If you hadn’t already guessed I won’t be returning - and Stanley Tucci should withdraw his recommendation!

Had really high expectations for this restaurant but unfortunately was left feeling very disappointed. It started off well, great anti pasti selection and a nice atmosphere. Myself and my sister went for the £39pp set menu where you get anti pasti, a pasta dish, dessert and aperol spritz. The anti pasti came out in good time but we then found ourselves waiting nearly an hour for our pasta dish. We were one of the first in the restaurant and others had received theirs although they ordered after us. Not once did the waiter come over to ask us if we had everything we needed so i took it upon myself to make them aware that we had been waiting for some time. They advised me it would be 3 minutes, 10 minutes later still no pasta. I asked for the bill (I don’t live locally to the restaurant and it was getting late) and they insisted the pasta was on it’s way. Eventually it arrived however by this time I wasn’t hungry as I had waited so long. They gave myself and my sister free drinks and put our dessert in some Tupperware to take away. The dessert was very disappointing, some kind of apple sponge, again I had expected more. No money was taken off our bill either , and I didn’t feel I had an £88 experience. The waitress was very apologetic, however the wait times did put a downer on the evening and would put me off returning to the restaurant.
Be the first to Reply'Gimmicky' Italian Restaurant Serving Very Ordinary Food
'HOMEMADE' FOOD AS MAMMA MAKES IS A MARKETING VENEER FOR SERVING ROUGH FOOD AND POOR WINE - AND STILL £300 FOR 4 PEOPLE Following the famous Tucci TV review we booked with friends in Hollywood Road to try out the food cooked by Italian mothers over in London and enjoy homecooked food - or at least Italian Trattoria level food To book was a drama as the website wouldn't allow booking after 5.45pm but we persevered and phoned the manager Angelo for a table at 7pm - all good We arrived and there was no table but two were eventually joined together outside a pretty grim-looking kitchen and the cutlery put directly on sticky tables We ate the set menus which had (to be fair) a big antipasta - but it was very low quality food and suckling pig that was bone-dry and cold, ending with 'desserts' (no choice) of a dollop of cassata and a dull chocolate biscuit. Meal for 4 people was £300 My main gripe is that actually the Mammas only make the starters and the desserts and the mains are prepared in a standard kitchen - the Mammas stand by the door and perform the 'theatre' as you walk in - but in reality all of the food/wine was really poor The concept of homemade Italian food is is mainly a marketing gimmick - plenty of better Italian restaurants in London that focus on the food and less on the 'story'

We chose this restaurant because it appeared on the Stanley Tucci TV series. The place is charming and the wait staff friendly and helpful especially Antonio. The bruschetta was delicious! And all the freshly baked bread. The appetizers were tasty and filling. It was an Italian meal with long waits between courses. The main pasta dishes were okay. The desserts were delicious about four of them but especially the tiramisus.

Alerted by the Stanley Tucci episode, we dropped in early on a Wednesday without a reservation and were seated immediately. The Mamma, preparing something in the front greeted us warmly and gave us some freshly prepared bruschetta. We had the set menu, oh my god, so much variety of food. Start with an Aperol spritz, then a huge antpasti to share with about 12 different items according to Mamma's choice. Followed by a wild boar pasta for me, and a wild boar stew for my husband. Then desserts! All food was exceptionally good. We really felt the vibe of being in Italy, the joy, the warmth. Of course we took home what we couldnt finish!

We were looking for a late lunch, somewhere to relax after a busy week on a Saturday. Spotted this restaurant, and had a warm welcome and give a lovey table by the front window. Everyone was Italian creating a wonderful atmosphere. The interior was beautiful giving the appearance of a quaint Italian villa. Then the food was quick and sensational. I had the best tuna salad I ever had . A lovely Rose . So good we ended going back in the evening , which was even better !!
