I left with some very mixed emotions after dining here.
For a three Michelin star restaurant with a lot of history, I was ultimately disappointed. Food: The food was beautiful but often lacked crucial elements. You could tell how much care and technique were poured into some very amazing dishes. The star of my tasting menu was the langoustine. The dish had an incredible sauce with a hint of curry which complimented the protein in an adventurous way. I was a big fan of the added texture from the crispy wafer but was not impressed by the bland spinach base. The sea bass was a stunner with its presentation, a truly luxurious dish. It played on some very classic techniques that had been upscaled to perfection. I would return to this restaurant for this dish alone if not for the chicken. I had such high hopes for the chicken but the breast was bland and dry. Even worse, the chicken drumstick was raw. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I tasted the piece to confirm my suspicions. Cold and rubbery, a complete failure. Service: the service way good overall, but there were too many hiccups. The staff accommodated us nicely as we arrived around 5-10 minutes early. Everyone was very friendly. However, it was very weird as the wait staff just stood there and stared at us. During the service there were many awkward disturbances, continuous bumping of our chairs, knocking our glasses, dropping a metal pan in a very quiet room. One too many to go unnoticed. For the special birthday event, the staff prepared a very lovely dessert which was excellent. Ambiance: It was creepy. There was no background music at all so we had to whisper for the majority of our dinner. I could hear the other patrons conversations like they were sitting right next to me. As mentioned previously, the wait staff staring at me while I ate was very unnerving. Overall: I left with the feeling of unfulfilled desire for excellence. I had such high hopes going in but left wanting much more. I would return to L'Ambroise for certain aspects but they need to clean up their act if they want to impress.
Be the first to ReplyMy absolute favorite restaurant in Paris!!! My husband and
My absolute favorite restaurant in Paris!!! My husband and I were here 15 years ago. Amazed by their venue, food and services. Went back on Thursday for our 20th anniversary. And this place is still unforgettable. We were greeted by Pascal, a French gentleman. He saw their 15 years old menu in my hands and knew that we are a return customer and a long time fan! As soon as we sat, he asked if he could look at my 15 year old menu. And he showed us the table we were sitting at 15 years ago! How sweet of him. He went through the menu we had and told us what they have that day. Then the Sommelier Axel introduced himself and offered his help. We both started with a cup of coffee and tea...he did not seem offended that we did not start with a glass of champagne. Once we inhaled our caffeine, we started ordering. And just like 15 years ago, the lady's menu does not have prices, only the gentlemen's menu has prices. That's so French and we still share this story with our friends and family. We started with a delicious Langoustine, best in its class! And then we moved onto escargot and the green egg with caviar, the veal for two, cheese and desserts. Everything was delicious and decadent! There's a team of waitstaff there, almost outnumbered their customers. That's 3 stars service for sure! We got very lucky, we had a team of very friendly French who spoke English with us. Kudos to Axel, our awesome sommelier! He's super fun to work with and made perfect suggestions to our wine. Every single glasses paired perfectly with our dishes including cheese and desserts! Laurent and Pascal are the most thoughtful guys there! We were offered the best service and had another amazing experience there! I will always love this place. And L'ambroisie will always have a special place in my heart.
Be the first to ReplyI have eaten at dozens of Michelin 2 and 3 stars.
The worst experience was here yesterday. 3 stars means exceptional food and service. The food was good but had far better at 1 and 2 stars in Paris this week. I also noticed no menu in English. Such a French attitude and ignorant. The whole dining room we were in were Americans and everyone was translating with google. Why? If you are about service then why do this unless you are just pretentious. And then when my partner who doesn't drink asked for a coke or sprite the waiter seemed offended. Why? Why not just stack some in a fridge for such customers as you pretend to be 3 star??? The other 1 and 2 star Michelin in Paris this week had Diet Coke. Finally, I ordered wine by the glass yet did not offer me a taste? When one is paying $40-80 a glass, offering a small taste is customary!! Again, all over the world I have always been offered a taste. Such service does not deserve 3 stars. PS: sent beef back because it wasn't chewable. Still charged us! PSS:when we sat down they forgot to offer my partner a purse hook though other tables had them. Another failure to pay attention to details!

We were in Paris this month staying at a wonderful hotel in the Marais area. Our neighborhood guide mentioned this 3 Michelin Star restaurant on the same square as our hotel. She also said that the French president brought President Obama there when he was in office. It was my birthday week so even with what we knew would be Really expensive we would do it. (this was my 3rd birthday dinner :). The space looked beautiful. The initial waiter, when handing out the menus to us, rather bluntly told us they do Not have an English menu. Even though the smallish dining room we were sitting in were just about all Americans. Even though the cost for my hubby and I with one bottle of wine 200ishEuros) and 2 glasses of champagne which I thought were complimentary given it was brought to us as soon as we sat down. At check time we were charged for a bottle of champagne too. Total bill just over 1100 Euros!Given the warm menu reception we should have just walked out. We stayed! We were hungry. This meal was definitely interesting, some parts good, some just a bit above OK. There was a lovely amuse bouche, we had something with foie gras (of course this is Paris!) and shared an interesting hen baked in chestnut butter, brought roasted to the table to show us it's beauty, it was gorgeously roasted. The. the hen returned plated in 2 different ways, well done visually, just above ok taste wise. The wine sommelier was quite nice, and another waiter decent. There was a palate cleanser and good desserts as well. In my business I've always said you get 2 chances with people, the 1st and last impression. Both poor here. The No English menu guy was #1 and at the end, our credit card + check was not picked up for maybe 20 minutes. We sat there wasting time while 2 of the waiters were having a chit chat with the next table from us. We finally got the credit card taken when I got up to leave. Bad experience coming , bad going. Not sure how one gets Michelin stars but it I were the evaluator, this place would definitely not cut it!

So glad an institution of classic, fine French food like this is still going strong. The cooking here is excellent. Lots of classics still on the menu, for good reason.

My wife and I went to this place to celebrate our 5 year anniversary and we had high expectations since we heard that this restaurant has maintained Michelin 3 Star for 30 years. The staff there told us this is a very formal and traditional French restaurant, which is why their menu is entirely in French and they speak only enough English so that you know what you are ordering. We had ti rely on Google Translate to read the menu. The service was great with all staff very friendly. We loved the snails. They created the shell using pasta and put snail meat in the shell, it was very delicious. We also loved those extra snacks they provided. The dessert Tarte chocolat & vanille Bourbon was also lovely and delicious. We were told that's the dessert that they kept on their menu for over 30 years and I agreed it should stay that way. Their menu changes seasonally so you may not find the same items when you visit. The reason for 4/5 is because the veal we had was overcooked. Also there were 2 flies in our room and I had to make sure they don't land on our food. You can find those 2 flies in the last photo. Overall I think this is a great restaurant but I'm also slightly disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyI had been to this restaurant when I was 9 years old and it
I had been to this restaurant when I was 9 years old and it was a one star; I remembered it as one of the best meals of my young life. 40 years later I returned and it was so disappointing. The waiter was rude when I asked for a non-alcoholic drink. The scallop appetizer was lukewarm and lacked flavor. I had a much better scallop dish at Le Grand Controle at lunch today. My cousin had the baby lamb which like another reviewer stated was also fatty (and undercooked) for her. The Bresse chicken has no flavor (and is also undercooked). They serve a few meager slices of a whole chicken (and probably eat the rest in the back themselves, if they can stomach it themselves). The dessert was probably the best part. But the whole experience was stilted, uncomfortable and unappetizing. An absolute let down.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant itself has a great atmosphere.
Service is outstanding. There 2 dishes I found outstanding: the chocolate bitter pie and the langoustine (appetizer). I found the poultry to be chewy and not that surprising in terms of taste. Their egg caviar specialty was disappointing. Overall I didn't feel like I had a cullinary experience or discovered anything or observed a consistency in the excellence of tastes, which I usually expect when I go to a 3 michelin stars.

Food was amazing! Our group start our meal with an aperitif. The followed by our appetizer which a heated eggg with black truffle. Super buttery and delicious! Everything tasted very good. I have the lamb ribs and my friends had the lobster. The only reason I give this place 4 stars is due to the service. I expected better. Our waiter kept forgetting what he had ordered and wasn't in tune to what we needed.

We had spring menuNo complaints about the food - ok appetizers, both foir grais as well as frog legs. Really impressive fish(file of sole with cheese inside), very tender and juicy pigeon that my wife had. Deserts were probably the best. They both looked beautiful and wereyummyMay be im spoiled, but It was not a wow experience though. Good, but not great. Nothing really memorableIt was also expensive, although at this type of place you expect to be charged a lot.

The four of us started our with an excellent appetizer, then came the entrée -- a Bresse chicken. Since there were four of us, we order two chickens of 520 euros worth of chicken. It was prepared in the classic way with truffles under the skin. Our first bites of the breast were excellent -- flavorful, moist, perfectly prepared chicken. As we ate more of the breast it became dry and overcooked. Then came the dark meet. Totally undercooked. What a mess. Desert was a mediocre: Marrons glaces, formage blanc, the biscut chaud a la madaring and chocolate tart. The best part the complementary madeleines. All in all it was a very disappointing dinner costing 1396 euros with a "cheap" 100 euro bottle of wine.
Be the first to ReplyA classic place serving excellent classic French cuisine.
One of the best services we ever experienced; waiters, maitre and sommelier worked as an orchestra serving perfectly executed dishes (we had lobster and lamb as a main, preceded by an amazing ile flotante de truffes and finalized with an outstanding dessert of chocolate gateaux and vanilla ice cream - the very best we ever tasted). No wonder this restaurant carries 3 Michelin stars for such a long time - well deserved...!!!!
