This hotel was described to me as a MUST SEE in Singapore and one of the most iconic hotels in the world. We decided to get a meal on the roof top per a recommendation since the popular infinity pool is strictly only open to guests. You can not even see the pool from were it is gated off. While the recommendation was much appreciated the experience was underwhelming and the restaurant on a rainy day was over priced and over rated. No "wow" factor at all. Travel tip- Seeing the hotel itself is a must see. I recommend going to the botanical gardens before hand, and walking your way over. You get a lovely view on the bridge between the gardens and the hotel of the hotel, and the Ferris wheel. We arrived at Lavo between lunch and dinner and went for a drink. Since it had rained the patio outdoor seating was understandably closed there was only one tiny area off the side of the restaurant that you could see the view outdoors. It was down a few stairs and big enough for maybe 6 people to stand... and filled with smokers so we could not stay to enjoy it. The majority of the restaurant was indoors and on the top floor, but not what I would consider "roof top" as there was a roof above us. The name is questionable. It was just like any other restaurant in a high rise. Nothing special, or different from any of the hotel bars in Chicago. I ordered the Dragon Aperoyl spritz. It was very good. It was a $25, and they included nearly $5 in service fees so $30+ total for one drink. (That's quite a required tip for one drink.) All mixed drinks were $25. Wine ranged from $30-$48 a glass. Beers including Heineken and Guinness were $12, coffee was $8. Service was slow to give us the menu, but quick to take my unfinished drink and wipe down the table after 15 minutes before we were ready to leave. In general I do not mind paying $30 for a drink if it's an experience. But there was no experience. No wow factor. No roof top. Not even really time to sit and relax our legs from walking all day through the gardens. Price point largely dictates the expectations for my star ratings. A hole in the wall food stand with $3 pancakes is a different scale than a $30 per drink cocktail bar. If drinks were even $20 each my star rating would have higher, but at this price point I expected a LOT more... like a roof top. Over all the spot is Basic. I would would not make a point to see this spot. If you have time then it's nice. Over all the restaurant was lovely. Modern vibe and interesting drink menu typically 4 star hotel bar. It was not the Uber special iconic luxury that I was expecting, or that the price point warrants.
