A refined experience
A lovely restaurant close to Soho in lower Manhattan. Refined cuisine, great decor, nice tables with candles and tablecoths. That is a must in a Michelin star establishment, Very good service, perfect wine recommendations. The view of the kitchen is fun

I have mixed feelings about this place. On the positive side it’s an impressive room with a really buzzy atmosphere. The food style is very very French. Big portions of rich food with a price to match. Now I’ve tried to be fair here and put some of my issue down to me. Had been eating quite lightly during this NYC visit. Lots of sushi and Asian food. As a result I really struggled to eat the food. I didn’t really enjoy it. I’ve realised how little I eat this kind of food any more. It feels quite dated. Kept waiting for our table but once seated service good. Main fault of this place is the entrance. We arrived early with a view of having a nice cocktail pre dinner. Unfortunately the two chairs by the front door is the bar. There is a tiny over engineered cocktail list. They only have the ingredients to make those cocktails so a Bellini or vodka martini is out of the question Aparantly. It’s more of a holding area than a bar really so arrive slightly late having had a drink elsewhere because nearly everybody has to wait for their table.
Be the first to ReplyPretty food that evidently no one tasted in the kitchen; All show and almost no substance.
I'm sorry to say that I found this to be a very disappointing meal - both in terms of the food and the service. It was my birthday, and my husband and I were in the city for work and pleasure. We decided to go here Saturday night to celebrate my birthday proper. Bottom line: I would never return, and I've told others (who commented on how pretty the restaurant looked from my few instagram posts) not to come here either. First, the good - it's a beautiful restaurant. The bar is lovely and the restaurant as a whole is well decorated. Honestly, it was one of the most aesthetically appealing restaurants I've ever been to. And the cocktails and wine menu are very good. So bravo on all that. Now, the bad - I think the easiest way to describe the experience is that this is a restaurant that strives to serve fine French cuisine without actually having ever eaten (or eaten often enough) good French cooking. True, the dishes looked like dishes one would eat in France but "looks" was where it stopped. It was like what someone thinks French food should be without actually tasting any of the food. We started with a few of the small plates. They were mostly good - the oysters and the yellowfin tuna. The yellowfin tuna was well done. Solid. But the oysters were sitting in so much camembert that you really couldn't taste anything else. It was essentially oysters Rockefeller with a ton of camembert. Then we ordered the chicken and foie gras as a next course. This was good. No complaints. Not amazing, but perfectly fine. We then moved on to the lobster dish. It was delicious but honestly it was just steamed lobster in a butter sauce. You can't really screw that up. Very good but not because of any real preparation. Things really went down hill with the duck. We ordered the Canette a l’orange (for two) at $129. This was a good example of a restaurant trying to be French (essentially, to make duck a l'orange) and making it look pretty on the plate but evidently never taking a bite to realize that it's bad. First there was a duck breast - so incredibly chewy from being cooked poorly. Also, it was very gamey. Now, of course, duck is a gamey meat. This is true. But a well-prepared duck breast will be paired with sauces and other accompaniments that blunt the gamey taste or weave together the gamey taste with other flavors that make it delicious. No such thing here. There was a very weak orange sauce and a cute little peeled orange on the side. That was the extent of the effort. Then, this was followed by a skillet with two of the duck quarters, set amid endives of various preparations. None of this worked. The duck was whatever (fine, not great) and the endives were so incredibly bitter. The duck and the bitter did not work together. Maybe they could have with a more skillful chef but this wasn't it. But, it looked beautiful in the skillet - again, pretty food that evidently no one tasted. We ordered two desserts (the caramel sabayon and another one that I can't even remember). The caramel sabayon was fine. Nothing to write home about, but competently done. The other dessert was forgettable. As my husband and I were talking about the meal at the end, the head waiter saw us and walked over to take our plates and ask how things were. I couldn't help myself, so I shared with him some of my observations. He seemed baffled...not that he was surprised that I had negative remarks but more that I had remarks at all. He didn't seem to know at all how to respond. As an aside, our own waiter also wasn't very helpful. For example, at the beginning of the meal we asked him if there was anything in particular that he would recommend on the menu. His response (I kid you not): "I never recommend anything. It all depends on the kind of experience you want to have. Some of these dishes are very French while some are more general crowd pleasers)." I almost had to laugh but just politely thanked him. For two people and for all these dishes and booze, it was not worth $680. This place is all show. Michelin really needs to revisit this selection.

This restaurant exceed expectations, great staff food was fantastic, will go back when traveling to NYC.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful restaurant! Where is the food??
Without doubt, a beautiful restaurant with stunning lighting. Nevertheless, we were disappointed with the food. Incredibly tiny portions and rather boring side dishes. Prices were very high for such meager offerings. I am 95 lbs , not a big eater, but I was hungry when we left. Professional service, yet aloof and distant reception. Once is enough.
Be the first to ReplyGood rather than great
Great food & a very extensive & expensive wine list . Slightly snotty ambience . I wasn’t allowed to go to my table until the whole table arrived . I enjoyed the meal & probably would try it again but compared to Michelin starred restaurants in London this place fell a little short. The prices were so much higher than better London restaurants. Other than the guy on entry the service was super friendly. It had been recommended to me so I probably had too high expectations. A good rather than a great experience
Be the first to ReplyIncredible Experience and Night at Le CouCou
Anybody fortunate enough to get a table here will tell you the same thing: The food is amazing and the service is beyond the 1 Star Michelin they have been given. Truly an experience worth every moment we were there!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding Meal in NYC
Outstanding - staff were lovely & food was exceptional. Don't be afraid to try the classic French dishes. Make sure to get the beef tartare - a revelation.
Be the first to ReplyPre-Michelin was a better experience
We loved our 2018 experience before they got their Michelin star. Disappointed with food quality and average service. The Mediterranean inspired gazpacho entree was overly sour but the 2 pcs of tempura shrimp saved the dish. The sea bass seemed to have been marinated in salt too long. I had to drink 5 glasses of water lest it killed my kidneys. The halibut with beurre blanc was well seasoned, neither salty nor bland. The foie gras terrine was so-so, wouldn’t order it again. The decoration on the halibut was a half dead lettuce leaf! Limp and sad. If they placed a sprig of parsley or anything fresh, it would’ve looked more appetising. Bread side was seaweed (couldn’t taste the umami seaweed) and another forgettable one. In 2018, their bread was delicious, with walnuts and olive oil. Waitstaff back in 2018 was impeccable. This time it was average except for one, Nina, who was very attentive and asked if we wanted additional bread. I was hoping to make Le Coucou a place to keep returning but pre-Michelin experience was much better.
Be the first to ReplyImpressive Fine Dining and Fine Food and Service
I would tell everybody that this is a great restaurant with five star food, wine, and experience. The staff is superbly trained and the food we had was amazing. We were there for lunch and will be going back for a dinner experience. We were there as lunch friends but it is a great place to impress a client or to hold an important business lunch as well as a romantic meal......

French restaurant with quality food. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is very welcoming. The portions are small and little bit expensive for the size.

One of the best Rooftop restaurant in Dubai. With an amazing view. Manager Shaheer we’re very polite to us and helped us to change table. Food are delicious, atmosphere is nice. I love it ♥️
Be the first to ReplyNot a Michelin star restaurant - beware of getting sick here, staff don't care
Not a top restaurant - owners need to review their priorities. Selling overpriced meals of subpar quality with lousy service at the fastest possible turnover rates seems to be the name of the game now at Le Cou Cou. While my husband was sick with diarrhea in the bathroom, and I told them that my husband was also feeling nauseated, they said it was not their problem and presented me with the check, essentially asking us to leave without even a question about how my husband was doing. This coupled with the service staff that was worse than at our local diner - filling glasses of water all the way to the top so it's impossible to drink without spilling the water out, waiters reaching in front of you while eating to take away any possible unused dish, ultimately so as to speed the turnover of diners and maximize revenue. Constant questions about whether you're done with this and being ushered out of the restaurant without a single I'm sorry about the food that made you ill or are you feeling better now? Where has human decency gone in the pursuit of profit? My take is this restaurant is relying on the Chinese tourist trade to stay afloat - single visit guests who don't know any better beyond what is attractive decor. Beware.
Be the first to ReplyUnjustifiably pretentious
Nicest part of the experience was the coat check staff the. hostess and the bus boys. The food was way too pretentious for what it is, and the Maitre D’hotel in charge of our section ( (table 55 I believe) was truly obnoxious. The “ icing on the cake” was when he brought the check before we asked for it and we’re still finishing dinner. This is completely unacceptable especially in an establishment that tries so hard to meet a certain standard. All in all Wouldn’t go back .
Be the first to ReplyMost beautiful and intimate resto in NY with food and service to match
The title says it all. Food is great and is truly classical French. Not very imaginative but perfect execution and plentiful. Service very friendly and super professional. Only negative is that the wine list is woefully overpriced.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience!
This restaurant is really good. The food and the service amazing! Really worth to visit! I love the duck and lobster!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent lunch!
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Le CouCou restaurant. I ordered the "chicken salad" and my husband had the sweetbreads and lobster. Both were incredible! For dessert we shared the chocolate sponge cake, cherries and kirsch, whipped cream. Honestly, it was one of the most memorable lunches we've ever had. We plan to go back for dinner one day to celebrate a special occasion (it is not an inexpensive meal!). But the ambience is cozy and romantic, and definitely worth a visit. There are so many restaurants to choose from in NYC - recommend putting this one at the top of your list.

This is probably my most favorite restaurant in NYC! Food is delicious and service is so attentive and tailored. Love the design of the place!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing and perfect experience
Le Coucou is perfect from A to Z. Decor is romantic and modern with high ceilings, stunning chandeliers and an open kitchen. Service from hostess to waiters and sommelier are professional and friendly. The cuisine is absolutely delicious, creative and rooted in classics perfectly reinterpreted. Among my favorites are sweetbreads. I can’t wait to try the chef menu where the chef surprises you with courses of his choice.

Let me begin with your host Roberto , he barked at us . Yes, unfortunately coucou isn’t the only animal noise you will hear at the restaurant . I wish this was a joke. Mr Roberto said & I quote “ maybe if you didn’t smoke the food wouldn’t taste like dog food” that’s when he barked … he said our table deserved to be barked at . Appalling!
Be the first to ReplyThe best French restaurant in NYC
If you have to choose only one restaurant in NYC I would choose this one. Everything is perfect! The place is beautiful, food is amazing, each dish was perfect! And service is the best I have seen, from the reception, each waiter, everybody! Ethan was especially great. I will return here in very trip to NYC
Be the first to Replya super find in NYC, loved it
fantastic French 1 Michelin star, in a very casual atmosphere. in the center of Soho.
it wasnt overrated, as many French restaurants. this was just incredible , very comfortable
A super good french restaurant one star michelin
We have been to many restaurants in New York and can easilybstate that this is very probably one of the best. Food that definetly deserves a Michelin Star and impeccable service. Try the foie gras, marvellous. Only negative note a very rude and aggressive ladie at the reception that nearly spoilt our dinner. Definetly should be fired.
Be the first to ReplyLoved, Loved, Loved Le Coucou!
I made it difficult for Le Coucou. I went there on a Monday, generally a quiet evening, when the best cooks of a kitchen brigade tend to stay at home. I decided not to take their most popular dishes (pike quenelles, tout le lapin, bourride). I brought my girlfriend, a hard-to-please diner. And the star Chef, Daniel Rose was not present. When the meal started, I was certain that I was going to corner the bird and accuse it of not living up to its hype. The oysters and anchovies were fine, but given the hype, they did not deliver the emotions we came for, therefore I was determined to “pluck the feathers” of the bird. But Le coucou fought back, and the bird went on cruising at exceptional altitudes. By the time the beef filet and carre d’agneau arrived at our table, the bird was out of reach, really high in the skies. Then the desserts were served, and I received a note, falling from the sky “coucou, I am not… I am actually a crowned eagle, ca te va? ” Crowned eagle, you are, buddy! Can’t agree more. Ca me va! Hype is always too much, oftently impossible to live up to, but Le Coucou deserves its reputation. It is, right now, a destination restaurant serving some of the very best French fares outside of France. And it happens to have an interior that is very easy on the eyes.
Be the first to ReplyA French Gem
The location is a bit out of the way in a nondescript part of the city however once you walk through their doors you find yourself in golden lit dining rooms with the comfortable buzz of conversations from the happy diners. The tone is casual elegant so no sneaks expected but no jackets required, a nice comfortable balance.
There is a nice selection of offerings to cover all food preferences and they are also accommodating to special dietary requests. My friend and I came in planning to do a sampling from the menu and our waiter, Travis, brought to our attention that a dinner option was a four course prix fixe that would provide us with all our planned choices and dessert as well, a great option if you are going for the full menu options. We started with oysters and leeks with hazelnuts. The oysters were clean and fresh tasting with a nice hint of the sea, the leeks lightly cooked in a very mild sauce with hazelnuts was a pleasant bite. We then moved on to the foie gras in a light but delicious jus, and the toasted bread that came with the dish was well appreciated to sop up every drop of the sauce. The foie gras was melt in your mouth wonderful. We also had the faux snails which were actually a layering of a mussel, turnip, and topped with sea urchin served in a snail dish. Again a little bread will serve you well to mop up the remaining sauce in the snail cuppings . For the main courses we tried the halibut over dakon , the fish was tender and the white sauce enhanced but didnt over power the taste, the mildly tart dakon was a nice counterpoint to the sweet fish. The prime filet was tender and it's accompanying side of oxtail under thinly sliced potatoes was a richly tasting meat lovers treat. I'd like to mention that portions are fairly generous and one could easily order less than we did and still have a very satisfying experience. Desserts were elegantly made and almost too beautiful to eat...almost but we enjoyed our Tarte Tatin, Chocolat Coucou, and a version of a classic Baked Alaskan.
Wine and beer options are good and cover all price points and staff is knowledgeable to offer recommendations to fit your tastes and budget.
While this is not an inexpensive restaurant, it is a good value restaurant when you consider the quality of the food, the excellent service, comfortable surroundings and that you will be enjoying your meal for a couple of hours at a nice leisurely pace. An enjoyable experience from beginning to end. A special thanks to our waiter Travis who was informative and helpful throughout our meal and truly made us feel welcome, it was a pleasure to have met you.
