on 3/20/24 is bizarre and untrue. I dined at le coucou on 3/19/24 with my friend. We were seated in a corner alcove area where there were three 2 tops. Next to us (in the middle table) was a man and woman. to the far right of us was a man and another man. My friend and I had a great time. We enjoyed our meal, the food was unique and tasty, the service was hospitable, and the ambiance was impeccable. The only thing that marred our experience was the behavior of the man and woman sitting in the middle table. At the end of our meal we noticed them arguing with each other when the bill was produced. The man was angry with his arms crossed and the woman was angrily talking loudly. We noticed a server coming to check on the bill and the two patrons loudly and angrily argued with him. The server seemed apologetic and contrite. The manager came as well and spoke to the 2 of them. My friend and I came to understand that their credit card had been charged incorrectly. The manager said "I am sorry, we have fixed the issue, we are offering you assistance to fix the issue, and we are offering complimentary drinks." The man said "this is not a small issue and your solution is not enough for me." The manager said "what solution can I offer that you would be happier with?" The man said "that is not for me to say, it is for you to decide. But this is a huge issue that occurred." The man exclaimed that he would give le coucou a negative review. etc. The conversation persisted and the man and woman's loud angry behavior was a sour note on an otherwise delightful experience and meal. The manager seemed only professional and courteous. I highly doubt "Alex F" was another patron viewing this unfold. I am positive he is actually the unhappy diner himself. I am also sure he wanted his meal comped. Credit card companies are usually very good at righting incorrect charges. Moreover, the restaurant agreed the charge was incorrect. This didn't seem like a "huge issue" to us. His reaction seemed entirely disproportional to the situation and excessively angry.

Service and food was good, but the general manager is HORRIBLE! I've never witnessed anyone handle a situation so badly in hospitality industry. He brought the wrong bill to a table near us 4 times! And then he threatened to call the police on them because they were upset that he might have charged them multiple times. Never NEVER go to le coucou. They should be ashamed of themselves. Horrible horrible restaurant. Edit: To address the response from the general manager below: that is a very one sided portrayal of what I saw. I do not agree with the GM's characterization of his behavior. And at the end of the day the guest was pissed and it's the restaurants job to fix it and not escalate it. I've seen annoyed guests many times in NY, I haven't often seen it handled so badly. Please don't believe this dumb letter. He's even handling my complaints badly too. Litterally implied I'm lying and didn't even apologize to me for the scene. Please find somewhere else to spend your hard earned dollars.

Amazing restaurant, top notch service, excellent wine selection with quiete and intimate ambiance.
Be the first to ReplyLe Coucou is a wonderful French restaurant in NYC.
Their impressive menu boasts lots of great flavors and textures. The service here is stellar and the ambiance is always classy. There are lots of fine dining options in the city but not all of them are worth the $$. This fine establishment, however, is worth every penny (and calorie).
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best restaurants in town.
It's our favorite restaurant for celebrating birthdays and anniversaries It's elegant and superb with equally fine dining.
Be the first to ReplyFrench restaurant with beautiful atmosphere.
Great service, candlelight dinner. Limited food choices. Limited beef options. Many options are lacking in flavor. Butter used as substitute for flavor. Overall visit if on your bucket list, otherwise many better tasting choices in walking distance. Bob appetit.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food.
Great service. Pricey, but so good! Our waiter brought us the most incredible bottle of wine which was delicious with our food. Ambiance is very nice as well.
Be the first to ReplyWe absolutely loved our dinner at Le Coucou last night.
The service was impeccable - very attentive and great recommendations. The space itself is beautiful and each table had a long stemmed candle. The food was French perfection - I don't think you could go wrong with a dish but I wouldn't miss the sweetbreads.

this place is very warm and welcoming, but as for the food ,i was very disappointed as it is flavorless and portion are very greedy for the price for a non Michelin star restaurant,i have been to the most famous Starr group places and had a blast with the food ,but Coucou is not deserving this success
Be the first to ReplyGorgeous dining room and elegant service are the two
Gorgeous dining room and elegant service are the two strongest elements of this fine dining establishment. The food is traditionally French and beautifully presented. A perfect place for a special occasion or date night. We enjoyed our meals and topped off dessert with an espresso martini. I have recommended this place to others and their experiences were similar to ours.
Be the first to ReplyFood tastes mainly of oil and salt.
Not much complexity or nuance, To boot, something I ate clearly didn't agree with my system. The check was delivered within minutes of dessert and without us asking for it. The mediocre food and rushed service do not befit the gorgeous setting nor the $50 an entree price point.
Be the first to Replydelicious & ambient place with amazing service.
this place is definitely on the pricier side but it makes sense considering the food & service. the fixed menu consists of hors d'oeuvres, entrees and salads (appetizers), gourmandises (medium sized plates), and les plats (the food food). we tried a few items on the fixed menu & the flavors were all pretty fabulous. and, the portion sizes were great--not too much and not too little! we left feeling full but having tried a lot of items.the staff were super attentive and explained the dishes pretty well. we also really enjoyed the complimentary appetizers and desserts! also, the vibes were amazing and the lighting set the mood well. overall, this place was well worth the visit!

Unfairly, I compare all French restaurants to Trois Mec and Petit Trois in LA. So, that is my personal bias. We had a constructed salad and tuna for an appetizer. The salad vinaigrette was a little bitter and the portion size was very small. Think an inch size bite per diner. The tuna was excellent; fresh and dressed in a lightly tangy sauce. For dinner we ordered the lobster in a cream based sauce with some kind of Chou/puff. Everything was prepared perfectly. The lobster dish was a sizable portion, especially for the price. The puffs were good and had a creamy smooth interior texture but they lacked flavor, which required we dip them in the sauce for the lobster. There was an unfortunate amount of sauce to account for those who wanted to try it on the lobster and still dip their puff. I have to say the most disappointing part was the menu selection itself. There were a lot less offerings than I saw listed online. And the dishes that were on the menu did not offer enough diversity of options. *personal bias alert: French Onion soup should always be on the menu!! The service is absolutely five star. The staff is run on military precision, yet friendly and welcoming to patrons. They were truly the star of the show!!
Be the first to ReplyLe CoucouAdventurous birthday meal at Le Coucou.
Stephan Starr's French eatery in Lower Manhattan. Rustic brick framed with chandeliers charmingly skied theceiling. It's old school French cooking. The sweetbread (p1) aka veal thymus, remind me of slightly firmer yet creamy version of foie gras. It also reminds me of brain. The fried eel was delicious with pungent vinaigrette salad. Lobster was perfectly cooked with round potato puffs. All the rabbit (3 ways), roulade with vinaigrettemeat stewed with turnip and vegetables rabbit soup were hit and miss. Generous freebies:mandelein, chocolate and macarons are wonderful. Will try the duck next time.

I recently had lunch at Le Coucou and overall had a delightful dining experience. The restaurant had a charming and elegant atmosphere, and the service was attentive and friendly. We ordered a few dishes to share, and while some were not as impressive as others, there was one standout dish that truly stole the show.Starting off with the Poireaux vinaigrette, I must say that it was not my favorite. While the leeks were cooked well, the dish lacked a certain flavor and excitement that I was hoping for. Similarly, the Thon ร la portugaise, although nicely presented, was not very memorable. However, the dish that completely blew me away was the Vol-au-vent "Coucou."The sweetbreads and lobster were perfectly cooked and complemented each other perfectly. The puff pastry was buttery and flaky, and the vermouth and white wine tarragon cream added a lovely depth of flavor. It was truly a pleasure to savor every bite of this dish, and it left me wanting more.Overall, Le Coucou is definitely worth a visit, especially for the Vol-au-vent "Coucou." While some dishes may not be as impressive as others, the overall experience was delightful and I would definitely return to try more dishes.
Be the first to ReplyLe Coucou has been on my list for some time now.
I've heard lots of good things and have been looking forward to it. It is also notable this would be my first time having French cuisine (and yes, it was certainly a grand introduction to what French cuisine has to offer).I came here with a party of 4 earlier in February. Most of my party were well versed in the French culinary dishes. What french cuisine excels most is the utilization of everything into their dish; the execution, presentation, and flavor is what defines it as one the of leading culinary inspirations in fine dining. Le Coucou definitely has met the criteria and worthy of their Michelin Star status. The service we received was outstanding and was expected of a Michelin star restaurant. There is an option to order prix fixe menu versus ala carte, and we chose the latter. Our party was adventurous and decided to go for more traditional French dishes that I normally wouldn't have ordered:- Quenelle de brochet (pike mousse)- Foie gras pochรฉ au Sauternes (Foie gras)- Ris de veau ร l'estragon (Sweetbreads)- Tout le lapin (All of the rabbit)- Calamar en escabรจche (grilled squid)- Canette a l'orange (roasted ducklings)Dessert: Pear SorbetI am not one to order foie gras, liver, hearts, and other organs from animal bits, let alone trying new meats such as rabbit, but I was open in trying it during this dinner for the experience. While I did not personally enjoy eating the parts itself, I did however appreciate the intricateness and refined techniques that went into every dish. Every dish had its own story and that made the experience much more unique. The tout le lapin is a classic dish utilizing every part of the rabbit in 3 different courses. I thought that was the highlight of the meal. The drinks here are very good and are not to be missed! I forgot what my first drink was but it was a hit! I ended up getting an espresso martini as my second drink and it was great. Overall; the service is outstanding and the staff are very knowledgeable about all the dishes. The quality and attention to details on the food itself is top notch. I myself, probably would not go out of my way to get the same dishes again (since it's a bit out of my comfort zone), but I would be interested in trying the other dishes they have here! Nevertheless, I respect the work and sweat put out by the wonderful staff and chefs at Le Coucou, and appreciate the experience!.

While many of its peers have underperformed relative to their Michelin status, this one was well deserved. From food, service, ambiance, to pricing, nothing stood out to us as a big negative. While it's not the easiest place to book, it's easy enough if you book 1+ week in advance. On this lovely Sunday evening, the two of us was placed next to the open kitchen and it was definitely a nice experience observing all the business behind the scenes. We got the oyster, chilled lobster as appetizers, sea bass and rabbit as main, and Mon Blanc as our dessert. The rabbit was definitely the highlight of this evening, especially the front leg w/ clear broth (very refreshing). I'd also recommend the chilled lobster as it's a very refreshing/light dish to start the dinner. The Mon Blanc was sweeter than we'd like, but that was our only concern. Also came as complementary were the chicken fries before our appetizer, as well as chocolate and lemon macaroons to wrap things up. Unlike others with complementary desserts that always disappoints, these really shined, especially the lemon macaroon in which the flavor was a good balance against everything prior. Service was simply excellent, you get a lot of attention as they are over staffed. Oh, and the ambiance was really nice, love the chandelier, although I'd argue it's still on the louder end. While they have certainly raised prices if you reference the legacy menu, pricing at ~140/p is still a very good price point. Would recommend and would not disappoint, will return again.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed by this restaurant.
Waiters were coming to the table too often, couldn't read the table and that we were not ready to order. Waitress omitted to say that sweet bread was veal thymus and that we ordered it as appetizer and main entree dish.. it turned out that I ate chewy veal thymus floating on a creamy sauce twice. Dessert was nothing special.
Be the first to ReplyI had the pleasure of having dinner here on a week night.
The food was splendid, and the service matched expectations. The veal is excellent.
Be the first to ReplyWORST EXPERIENCE dining here.
Had a super RUDE + RACIST server. Never came to refill the coffee or asked if we we need anything. He was clearly super chatty and nice to the table of white guys next to us. The food is less than mediocre. Pojarski de volaille I ordered supposedly has foie gras, which is about the size of a dime. The rest of the dish is not impressive at all. My friend ordered the $70 Filet de bลuf. I never knew steak can be this bad. She could barely swallow the steak. Another dish was Maine lobster, the side thing is so oily, felt like the oil had been used for several days. Lobster itself did not worth the money. The deco inside is quite nice, other servers are also nice, but one person really ruined our day, also the food DID NOT worth the money.
Be the first to ReplyGood is great, service is excellent.
Definitely recommend trying this restaurant if you are near by.I especially like the service, I could tell they had put extra miles on it which made me feel very satisfied and comfortable. For example, we were a group of 4 and the sharing plates they gave us were warm. Every time they need to changed the plates after we finished it, the staff would come to cleaned our table and changed our dishes, the whole process was less than 1 minutes and there was no awkward moment
Be the first to Replylove it.
excellent service. I did lunch there with three courses and drinks. The champagne was excellent. We finished with the lemon tart and baba rum (dessert is a MUST). My starter was a sliced crab (almost like a ceviche/salad hybrid) which was spot on and did the chicken thigh with ju (no idea what it was actually called). There were whole carrots/onions in the side pot of stock and it was sooooo good. Will be back and I love this place.
Be the first to ReplyI have been here a grand total of 1 times.
The food is excellent - delicious and exciting, but that's not the only reason to dine here. The ambiance is reason enough visit, and all diners are on display.Dress well, check your makeup before you go because the bathroom is way too dark, order dessert, enjoy yourself
Be the first to ReplyFood is ok, but nothing special.
But what an attitude received from lady who served us, you can't ask her anything, she won't help with anything. Such a nasty one. One star only for hostess, nice and pleasant . The rest with this girl attitude ruin the dinner.
Be the first to ReplyLe Coucou is perfect from A to Z.
Decor is romanticand modern with high ceilings, stunning chandeliersand an open kitchen. Service from hostess towaiters and sommelier are professional and friendly. The cuisine is absolutely delicious, creative androoted in classics perfectly reinterpreted.
