Visiting Dc for a few days.
...We took a chance after seeing this a couple of nights ago when we were in the area. Soooo glad we went back! You definitely get the French vibe here! From the tables to the decor you feel like you're transported! The food is amazing! We had the crispy artichokes to start and the mayo was sooooo yummy! The bread basket was plentiful and you know it's fresh. The butter was delicious. We got the warm shrimp salad, trout almandine and the rabbit paparadelle.... Everything was superb and well cooked. Dessert - profiteroles, apple tartine and cafe au lait rounded out the meals - the profiteroles were so light and delicious and the tartine had a wonderful amount of apple. The impeccable service is the cherry on top - our waiter was so friendly and everyone assisting made the experience even better! Too often I find restaurants are lacking somewhere and this place has it all right!!!!
Be the first to ReplyI don't get the hype.
. ordered the onion soup, crab cocktail, steak and frites and a chocolate pot dessert. Soup was good probably highlight of the meal and the dessert. The fries were tasty as well. The steak has so many good reviews and fell flat it was so so salty and over seasoned. Not a fan but it was a popular spot. The service at the bar was average. There's better places imo
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, service and atmosphere.
Love the onion soup au gratin, warm shrimp salad, great american burger. Awesome place.

I'm a French food snob and I have to say, I'm surprised by the rave reviews. I ordered the burger and green beans for delivery via grub hub The beans were fresh, tasty, and DRENCHED in butter (which made them tasty but didn't help the health profile). The burger was alright. Loved the pickles, could have done without the American cheese, would have liked it cooked medium (a little too pink for my liking). Fries were also just ok. Service wise, I love that they let me customize to have a bun free burger! I'd try them again but wouldn't rush back.

Can't go wrong with a meal or drinks at Le Dip whether it's brunch, dinner, dessert or cocktails- everything is always lovely! My favorite is the warm shrimp salad and French toast! Folks are regularly bustling in and out of this establishment because they do a great job! The basket of bread is one of my favorites, in fact the one with cranberries is my #1! On a nice day the outdoor space is fun to sit, enjoy and also people watch. It almost feels like you're somewhere in France enjoying a meal with friends at a local cafe!

I was in DC for a conference a few weeks ago, but was luckily able to meet my friend and her husband for dinner on a Wednesday night. She'd made the reservation several weeks and advance and we were seated immediately once our entire party had arrived. The restaurant was bustling and the atmosphere was fun, warm and lively. Since I arrived before the others, I tried securing a seat at the bar while I waited, but it was standing room only. It's clearly a popular place! Once we were seated, my friends ordered some wine and we shared the Royal Seabream Crudo, while her husband had a soup. The crudo was perfect and he seemed to enjoy his appetizer. When it came time to ordering entrees, I couldn't say no to the burger and thankfully it did NOT disappoint! The fries were also perfectly cooked. My friends each had the Steak Frites which I tried and their dishes were also perfectly cooked. For dessert, we shared the Milk Chocolate Pot De Crème which was TO DIE FOR. I'm a chocoholic and felt like I'd died and gone to heaven. Overall, the service was great and the food couldn't have been better. If only I lived in DC!

Having lived in France, I find this plave OVERLY OVERPRICED and despicable for American food turned French.. Come on, this is American food, from American soil, raised in America sold at a wannabe French-inspired restaurant for a very high price. Sucker born everyday!!!! LoL

You can tell that this place is the real deal from how their extensive list of wines and champagnes are priced. I challenge anyone to compare with other places in DC. Well trained and ultra friendly staff. Don't miss the seafood tower!!
Be the first to ReplyAnother great meal but sorry no pics.
Tried the ratatouille egg while omelet for the first time and it was delicious!!! Joe, our server shared that recommendation with high praise. Excellent service, quick to order and check as requested. We were on a time crunch so that was perfect!

Despite a packed night, I managed to snag a seat for two at the bustling bar of Le Diplomate. And let me tell you, it was an unforgettable experience. The Steak Frites stole the show - perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. With every bite, I felt transported to France, thanks to the impeccable ambiance that surrounds you. The energy in the venue was electric, adding to the lively atmosphere. And to top it all off, their spiked cider is truly something special - a delightful twist on a classic drink. Whether you're craving exceptional cuisine, immersive ambiance, or just a great time, Le Diplomate delivers on all fronts.

No wonder why it is one of the toughest restaurants to make a reservation in DC. It certainly lives up to its hype, given its retro atmosphere, attentive service, great-valued meals and food quality. It reminds me of my fav french bistro L'Express in Montreal. Res is available 3 weeks in advance. As a deadline fighter, I kept refreshing 1-2 days before my arrival and luckily I got a 5:45am indoor seating res. * Bread Basket (free)I didn't realize Le Diplomate is known for its complimentary bread basket until I actually tried it. All the bread paired tremendously well with salted butter. They def won me over with the cranberry walnut bread. I couldn't stop myself eating it even I was super stuffed!* Onion Soup GratinéeLook at the cheese pull!! I ordered 1 onion soup to share, and they divided the portion into 2 bowls. So the actual portion should be even bigger. A slice of baguette was soaked and absorbed the soup, making it extra flavorful. Highly recommend dipping bread into the soup and spreading a thick pile of cheese on it.* Escargot à la bourguignonneEscargot is a must order item at any french bistro. The garlic butter was so aromatic that it tasted the best with the complimentary baguette on the side. Oh I know some of you might wonder what an escargot tastes like -- it's actually similar to periwinkles. * Beef Bourguignon Once again, I split the entrée into 2 with 1 order, but the hearty portion shocked me! Better share the main with your companion otherwise I couldn't imagine finishing the whole plate all by myself. The beef, mushrooms and sliced carrots were intensely marinated with red wine. It was a tad tangy but had a great chemistry with the buttery mashed potatoes. My Recommendations:All the above dishesWorth Returning ? YES Follow @nyc.bgoo on Instagram for more honest food reviews!
Be the first to ReplyI sat at the mini bar, on the right side of the restaurant.
The ambiance of this place really feels like Paris, bringing me back to that place. They started me with a bread basket, altogether too much for one. But the bread was really great, with three varieties. The standout was the farmers cheese, a spreadable cheese spread with mint, honeycomb, and hazelnuts, brought together with buttery, charred bread that was exceptional. It was an amazing way to start my meal, and something I would go back for. The steak frites (all this was too much food for one), was also amazing. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested, and packed with flavor. The herb butter was a nice addition. The steak had a really nice char to it. The French fries were exceptional. Really good, shoestring French fries. I would go back just for those next time. Altogether, it was an amazing meal. I would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyNo sure if they actually have food on a Saturday night
No sure if they actually have food on a Saturday night after 10 pm. I come from Albany NY we have restaurants that are open on a Saturday night where you can get food after 10 pm.
Be the first to ReplyEverything about dining here was lovely.
We had brunch reservations and they are dog friendly! So that was such a big plus for us (our senior dog hates being left home alone)We arrived and were seated in a little enclosed patio seating area (each dining group gets their own little enclosed seated outdoor dining section, complete with vents for heating..though the opening is left alone so if it's cold..its still chilly). They brought our dog a water bowl and some dog treats which was so sweet. We got a bread basket with some butter which was a great complementary starter, especially the cranberry bread. We ordered an onion soup to share, my bf got the trout Amandine and I got the duck sardalaise. The soup just hit different on this cold wintry day. Warmed me up and it was delicious. I however was not a fun of the duck dish. Which saddens me as I saw all the reviews raving about it. It was just too salty for me. I tried my bf's trout Amandine which I liked. Everything was lovely, service included. I just wish I had enjoyed the duck dish. It's more a 4.5 for me than a 4. I'd definitely come back any other time cos I do want to try the burger.
Be the first to ReplyHands down the best food in DC.
Service is wonderful and my husband and I try to go back there anytime we can.
Be the first to ReplyStill one of Washington's best spots for brunch or dinner.
Fantastic cocktails, food, and service.

Staff was incredibly attentive. Very flavorful and cocktail was great. Will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyNot sure what hasn't already been said about this stellar
Not sure what hasn't already been said about this stellar restaurant but I guess I'll put in my two cents. DC has a lot of French restaurants, but none with the service and grandeur of this place. The service is always excellent, even when they're busy. They developed a nice streatery during Covid with different kinds of creating seating options. That will be much appreciated as the weather warms up again. You can't go wrong with the classics, like a perfectly cooked Steak Frites or Beef Bourguignon. Always get the bread basket. The escargot are also delicious and full of garlicky goodness. This is as close as you'll get to the original Pastis experience in NYC.

Be the first to ReplyMy friends and I made reservations for this place for lunch
My friends and I made reservations for this place for lunch on a Monday afternoon. We were seating swiftly and our server greeted us welcomely. Their complimentary bread was delicious. Although the food seemed like it was taking forever to come out our appetizers came right away. The ambiance was very mellow and nice. Assorted oysters 5/5The oysters were fresh and was soooo good Escargot 4/5 Really garlicky but smelled so good and cooked perfectly Beef Bourguignon 4.9/5The sauce and beef was delicious and cooked nicely. the mash potatoes were good but a bit too buttery Steak frites 5/5The cook on the steak was chefs kiss and the fries was perfect. The garlic butter was seasoned perfectly tooTrout Amandine 5/5The trout was crispy and juicy and the sauce was AMAZING. The almonds and string beans texture complimented the whole dish so well. Overall 10/10 experience! We were always checked upon and the food was really good.

Had a really great brunch here! It was busy around 11am on a Sunday but we didn't have to wait at all. Loved the cranberry walnut bread in the complimentary bread basket. We started off with the escargot appetizer, which comes in an herby butter thats absolutely delicious. The appetizer comes with a small piece of bread, but we wished we had saved some of the bread in the bread basket to dip in that butter too! For mains, we had the Duck Salardaise and the Poached Eggs Basquiase. The Duck Salardaise was definitely our favorite of the two. The duck was super flavorful and went super well with the sauce and potatoes. They really give A LOT of potatoes so we ended up taking some home. The poached eggs basquiase was also tasty but didnt have the same wow factor. Had a nice creamy polenta, which itself didnt have much flavor. The prosciutto on the dish was really flavorful, added some needed salt, and was a great crunchy contrast to the soft texture of the polenta. It also came with a tomato-based sauce, but we wished there was more of the sauce on the dish to add flavor to the polenta and to give some needed acid to cut the creaminess and the salt of the prosciutto. Service was good and they were very quick with refilling our waters through the whole meal.
