Indulgent lunch
Came for lunch and loved it. sian salad was crunchy and delicious. Fried chicken was juicy and flavorful. Milkshake was indulgent and divine. Highly recommend. Atmosphere was lovely, with several areas for dining. Would have liked eating outside in the back, had we known it was an option beforehand.
Be the first to ReplyFab Oysters-- raw or grilled-- and fantastic chicken!
Fantastic Vibe-- very local-- great service-- delicious chicken--just eat it. Great oysters too. Loved the small bites plate of clams on bib lettuce with some great sauce. Everyone loved their food. Black eye pea salad, Potatoes au gratin; Loved loved it. Jacob was a great server! GO!!!

Our first night in Charleston and the Uber driver told us about Leon's . The place was very busy with a fun vibe. A little confusing as we put our name in to wait for a table and then were directed to wait in line at the bar for a drink. Not many bar tenders but they were very nice and tried to accommodate everyone. Enjoyed the Leon's fish fry
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot for lunch
This was a great place to have lunch, the staff was nice and professional and the food was very good. We tried the grilled oysters, cucumber salad, hushpuppies and shrimp. It was all very good and I would recommend these items! Nice that some of the foods aren’t fried. The restaurant is a little off the city center but was well worth the walk. It isn’t far from the visitors center so don’t pass it up. It is an old auto body shop so don’t look for it to be very fancy.
Be the first to ReplyFood must be OK… cause service is meh
Terrible service… average staff. Overpriced cocktails with small pours. Nice ambiance and I am sure the food might be OK. Don’t come in expecting to have a drink at the bar … waited 20 mins. No where to stand and enjoy.

I can see why the wait is 30+ on a Sat - great service great food and friendly staff. All the ingredients of a must-visit in Charleston. When I began my Navy career in Charleston in 1982, this area was to be avoided - not now. I't where everyone wants to be.

Always delicious and fun. We rented out the back space for a Lowcountry boil and it could not have been better. Great service, delicious food, fantastic atmosphere. Leon’s is one of my favorites and I go every time I’m in town. Highly recommend. Try the frozen gin & tonics too!

I have not had good luck at Leon's. The food was just OK, not great. The service was NOT a strong suit at Leon's. We went for an early lunch to avoid the crowds. The service seemed indifferent...as if they weren't ready for us. Kind of annoyingly hip...as if we weren't cool enough to eat there. It was weird...its like they ignored us...despite no one else being there. Not worth all the hype.

Excellent food as always - kitchen was slammed after the holidays, but the hosts and wait staff treated us very well and couldn't have been more apologetic about the wait that we had (we had a large party of 11). Always recommend Leon's and the way that they went out of the way to make up for the wait made us love Leons ever more and will make sure to tell everyone visiting Charleston to put it on their itenerary.

Sit outside, and get the catfish fry-up!!!! Everyone loved their meals, but my catfish was subjectively the best. Drinks were just right, sides delicious, and the service was perfect blend of both friendly AND efficient.

This is a great place away from the hustle and bustle but still on King Street. Food was wonderful, Thomas our server was informed and attentive. Great experience overall
Be the first to ReplyInteresting place, food was over rated
This was a very neat place; I liked the conversion to a restaurant. I wish TA had a "good" option. I think it was better than average, but not really up to the very good level. My 2 piece dark chicken is priced well, but the pieces were small (that's why it's priced well) and really seemed over fried. Too dark. Hushpuppies were ok, but not much of any flavor-so the honey butter was good. Service was good. Drinks were fine. Glad I made the walk from Calhoun to check it out, but I wouldn't do it again.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the money!
Oysters on half shell small and charged $45/dozen. Not worth it. Cucumber salad not good either. Nice staff and good service but way over priced menu. A whole chicken dinner is $50. Just say no!

This is a fun place with a great atmosphere. We sat at the bar and received excellent service. We tried the fried chicken, and it was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, cool atmosphere
Loved the chargrilled oysters, hushpuppies and fried chicken. The seasoning on the chicken is outstanding with just enough heat. They seem to fry everything a little extra. I actually think the food would be better with less, but it’s still good.

Excellent fried chicken and fresh oysters. Creative cocktails. Nice, large outdoor patio with great atmosphere. Friendly service in an up and coming neighborhood.
Be the first to ReplyFine frying et al.
We enjoyed cocktails while waiting for our table, in a cheerful and lively atmosphere with friendly staff and fellow customers all being very chill. After looking at the menu, it was pretty clear we'd like almost everything, but we narrowed it down to a selection of greatest hits to share: a plate of famous grilled oysters*, an iceberg stack salad, Leon's fish fry, some fried chicken, soft serve and sprinkles for dessert. We enjoyed the whole experience, and not just due to the second round of drinks! *In the past I used to think I didn't like oysters, and then in my experience in recent years, I still strongly preferred raw or vinaigrette to anything remotely cooked. However, in this case I'm so glad I trusted Leon's to do what I know they're good at, and it paid off deliciously.

Figured this was going to be a dive. it isn't; it is a rustic but clean and pleasant place a bit north of downtown Charleston. Taken there by a friend who spends 7 mo a year down in SC but lives near us in NH during the summer. We have oyster aficionados on the street in NH, including a neighbor who was an oyster farmer. I'm not a huge fan of raw oysters so i was a bit terrified I was going to have to swallow these just to be polite. Well. The grilled oysters are on a half shell, in a butter sauce, with some cheese over them, and are sensational. They ain't cheap -$18 a half dozen. Come with toast. Wow. Couldnt' get enoughof these. Also got a fried shrimp platter and this was far beyond the standard seafood pleace fried shrimp. They were very good. So were th scalloped potatoes. No French fries to be seen. My wife had a good salad and our friend had a fish sandwich and we were all pleased, so much so that I hope to recreate the grilled oysters at home. Delightful servers.

We went to Leon's last night. I had the Wedge Salad with fried chicken and my hubby had Leon's fish fry...was very very good..we would definitely come back. I also had a cocktail the little bird super bonus. Ambiance was very trendy...loved our whole experience

A very casual atmosphere but the food didn't live up to the hype. We got the grilled oysters, 2-piece fried chicken and catfish sandwich.....all ok but nothing worthy of a return visit. Go for the experience and the vibe, not worth a trip just for the food.
Be the first to ReplyLeon’s Bland Poultry & Oysters that Shuck
I hate writing bad reviews but it’s a must…to have poultry and oysters in your name you’d expect those to be highlights of the menu…not so bland chicken I mean no seasoning or flavor…world famous chargrilled oysters they definitely shuck….I will give them a B+ on the ambience…and it’s packed like it’s good and it’s a wait…come on now

Visiting our kids in Columbia, we drove down to Charleston for the day. Researching the reviews led us to Leon’s for dinner. What an excellent choice! The hostess was very friendly, carrying on a conversation during our 20 minute wait. Casey was an excellent waitress, actually spent a few years in our area. All of the food was amazing! The boiled shrimp were flavorful & easy peel. The grilled oysters were amazing. The crunchy shrimp roll, the fried oysters, the mahi sandwich, Leon’s fry platter… all excellent. Never had scalloped potatoes so good. Easily our favorite meal of our SC visit. Nice to find an Abita amber so far from Abita Springs.
Be the first to ReplyVery good, but not life changing
My wife and I stopped in for dinner. We started with the Mahi dip, grilled oysters, and hush puppies. We enjoyed ghe Mahi dip the most. The oysters and hush puppies were nothing special . For a main course we did fried chicken which was very good but not life changing. Overall a really nice dinner at an interesting spot. But we did not think it was special.

Great environment, had a blast with my wife. We sat at the bar and originally went for happy hour. Three hours later we ate and drank everything.
Be the first to ReplyFood was slightly disappointing
We had great service here and the ambiance was great, so that adds a star to my rating. The food was disappointing, though. I had the fried chicken sandwich, and the size of the chicken was substantially smaller than the bun, so several bites were of just bread! But the flavor was good - though nothing special. The hush puppies, oysters, and shrimp were our starters - the hush puppies were average and I'd say the oysters and shrimp were good but the toppings for the oysters could've used a lot more flavor (more vinegar!). Overall, we had a fun night and it was a great spot for a big group, but the food was slightly lacking.
