Food was good but definitely not worth the price.
It was priced at the same cost of a two or three star restaurant and definitely not at that caliber. Service was okay. I usually don't write bad reviews but the price of the meal went from 200 per person at booking to double. So many better places to have a good meal in nyc.

while the food was very good on the whole, it didn't necessarily match the price. It was pouring rain and 3 minutes before the restaurant opened and when we tried to go inside, the Maitre d' locked the door on us. Recommend the crab for the entire. The $300 croissant and caviar was overkill.

This is haute cuisine & a fine dining experience & it's pricey & worth it! I came for restaurant week and met Chef Angie Mar which was thrilling in itself. It's a beautiful room with blue banquettes & flowers & exudes the kind of Manhattan elegance that has been lost since COVID. My name was on the table on an end& that touch was super personal & welcoming. I was impressed with the selection of the RW menu as I was worried about a meat focused menu. Ate: White Asparagus with malaise sauce & truffles Spring onion soup with pastry crust & more truffles($24 supplement) do not miss King Salmon with caviar in a sorrel sauce Desert was crème caramel with morell Juliane wine Aqua Panna bottle The restaurant week menu was $60 for three courses which an amazing value but the total with water, wine & the soup was $130 before tip and so worth it. The attention to detail & ingredients shines through every dish & the staff is an incredible group. This dinner was a performance. I loved my meal & would say the white asparagus, soup & dessert spoke the loudest., There is a cheese course that arrives on a cart. What a fabulous meal & show.I can't recall a more spectacular meal in NYC in recent memory since the Tak Room. There was also a tin of macadamia nut cookies as a parting gift. #Divine

After reading some of these review I knew I had to write one. Anyone who didn't know it was going to be expensive.... well seriously did you look at the webite? Anyway ...it was an extraordinarily experience from the velvet comfy chairs to the beautifully appointed environment, amazing service, including Chef making sure we were enjoying all 9 courses of perfectly constructed plates with just the right balance of salt, acid and flavor, we enjoyed every minute of it. We love the adventure of a tasting menu and have tried many in NYC but this was by far the best. Every course was incredible including the cheese which was creamy, rich and delicate . Bravo!
Be the first to ReplyWe had a fantastic dinner last night at Les Trois Chevaux.
We had the four course tasting menu and the selections were so amazing. By the time we got to the 3 desserts the chef included for the table, we were so full, but each one was delicious. I heard the people at the next table also remark to the chef they weren't sure they could eat another bite but they would make an effort. Each dish looks like a work of art, the flavors are incredible, and the service is excellent. We recommend you give this restaurant a try. It's a wonderful experience. Amazing food, great service and a lovely atmosphere
Be the first to ReplyIt's absolutely pathetic.
So bad. It's ridiculously over priced, and so bad. Literally I should have gotten five guys rather than paying 1k for the worst meal of my life. The chef seems to believe that fine dining means composing 7 courses of a random combination of foie gras, truffles, caviar and fat. We love good food and go out to eat a lot. I think this was hands down the worst restaurant experience of our lives. Run as fast and far as you can.

The service was good but the cost on the price of the the prefix meal is definitely like a bait & switch , when they come to explain the menu and realize each dish keeps adding to the final bill ! And that feeling of coming out of the restaurant thinking it's so over priced and the entire experience was not worth is a total shame

If you have a bucket of money to spend on a meal go, literally, anywhere else. So underwhelming on every count. My Dover sole was sitting on what tasted like a pool of straight soy sauce. We went because we saw the segment on CBS Sunday Morning and now we're thinking the chef must be friends with one of the producers. So disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyBeen twice once when it opened and another a week ago.
Both times were fantastic - very friendly, helpful service...accommodating to allergies / restrictions. Food is fantastic and decadent. White table cloth ambience which is nice is you're looking for a special night out.
Be the first to ReplyI brought my wife here for dinner as we had previously
I brought my wife here for dinner as we had previously enjoyed Chef Mar's Beatrice Inn. Les Trois Chevaux was an even more enjoyable experience, as it trades the Beatrice Inn's raucous, hipster atmosphere for a serene, peaceful, and refined environment. The reviews that complain about the dress code (particularly the jacket requirement for men) are inexplicable, as the restaurant provides multiple notifications and reminders about the expected attire. Every other restaurant in New York with such requirements also provides jackets to improperly-dressed guests without dry cleaning between guest wearings. It would be odd to reward a guest's failure to be properly attired with not only a courtesy jacket, but also free dry cleaning services. The reviews that complain about the food (particularly the ones that loudly proclaim that the reviewer has eaten at plenty of Michelin-starred restaurants) are also inexplicable, as the food deftly blends traditional French haute cuisine methods with Asian influences. Many restaurants that try to do this end up with odd mash-ups on their menu, but Chef Mar succeeds with nearly every course of her ambitious 10-course chef's tasting menu. Standout dishes include the "Cannellonis" de Fruits de Mer, the "Chawanmushi" d'Huitres et Truffés Blanches, the Cervelle de Veau "Rossini", and the Crepes Suzette for dessert. These dishes feature approachable, yet multi-dimensional flavors, brought together inventively. Many traditional French dishes are too heavy, but Chef Mar infuses her cooking with a welcome measure of Asian-inflected lightness.Even the cocktails successfully blend Asian influences into traditional recipes, with surprisingly good results. The Cerasus (a blend of Kyoto Green Tea Gin, Sakura Vermouth, and Wakamomo in place of an olive) delicately softens the edges of a traditional martini. I'm usually dubious of overly-clever variations of the martini, but this one was well-conceived, balanced, and enjoyable. Likewise, the wine pairing program was thoughtfully crafted, with mostly French producers showcasing a wide variety of pleasing, distinct, and well-structured wines--all very generously poured. So generous, in fact, that I'd recommend an aperitif with lower alcohol content than a martini. As with the food and drinks, the service struck a fine balance: polished and professional, yet not pretentious. Everyone from the servers to the sommelier are knowledgeable and describe the offerings well--but instead of just reciting lengthy descriptions, the entire staff takes genuine pleasure in explaining what they're serving. We were not "relentlessly upsold"--and nearly all upscale French restaurants offer very expensive additions such as truffles and caviar, so it's hard to understand the negative Yelp reviews on that point. Before our dinner, my wife was curious whether the negative Yelp reviews held any truth--or whether the much better reviews for Les Trois Chevaux elsewhere on the internet were more on-point. With each successful course, we were glad we didn't listen to the undeserved trolling--and we still can't understand what's truly motivating it, as it's a disservice to the Yelp community that relies on these reviews. Don't let the negative voices dissuade you from Les Trois Chevaux. Yes, it's very expensive--and, yes, you need to actually wear a jacket--but it succeeds in delivering a creative, special, and truly pleasurable experience.
Be the first to ReplyMany restaurateurs are impressed with their successes.
And Angie Mar isn't averse to this. But overpriced, pathetically derivative and boring cuising at something close to $300+ a head isn't funny. Her previous restaurant, Waverly Inn, made great strides in not-too-healthy, but oh-so-good beef at high prices. But this new restaurant is an exercise in hubris. Her aesthetic is totally bogus, a reflection of her narcistic persona. Good luck when this closes.
Be the first to ReplyOver priced drinks, service was mediocre at best.
Ambiance is not what you may picture. The food was alright, but nothing memorable, especially for the price.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely dissatisfied with my experience here.
Food was beyond subpar. Surprised this qualifies for a NYC establishment. Owner seems like a witch and is all around unprofessional Would have given zero stars but unable to make that selection.

I'm so glad I didn't read the reviews written here before going. They're describing a radically different experience than the one we had. We enjoyed the chef's menu with wine pairing. I found the dishes to be complex and unique as well as artistic; a blend of fat and salt and sweetness beautifully combined for an experience of delight on the taste buds. The wine pairing was outstanding; better than three star Michelin restaurants I've experienced. The staff were friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. In short, it was excellent French cuisine with an Asian twist. We will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyThoroughly enjoyed our meal at Les Trois Chevaux.
It's been a long time since we've dined at a restaurant that required wearing a jacket, and frankly, it was nice to dress up again. The hospitality was classic French wait service. Wait staff was friendly and very knowledgable about the items on the menu. Wine list was extensive, primarily French and some California. The selection was broad and had some high end wines. Wines ranged from $100 to more than $1000. The food was amazing. We ordered from the prix fixe menu and added an additional appetizer. The prix fixe menu was $185. It included an amuse bouche, a first course, a main course, a digestif salad, a cheese course, and a dessert course. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. Angie Mar circulated in the dining room occasionally and spoke to all the diners. Upon leaving, we were each given a bag with walnut cookies. We look forward to returning.

This is about entry: I was asked to put on a jacket, since I only had on a linen collarless shirt. They have suit coats to choose from. Unfortunately, they weren't cleaned between wearers (with D.C. tag) and as such I declined to eat in someone else's slobber. Then I read this from the NYT review: "Banquettes in inky blue, which Ms. Mar said was the color of her father's favorite sweatshirt,"So your dad's sweats are cool, but my crisp white shirt is anathema. I'm not going back.

Run far far away from this place - I still have PTSD from this place and it's taken me a while to get back to eating high end food & sushi given the textural atrocities coming out of this kitchen.Disgrace for a fine dining restaurant. As someone who knows fabulous fine dining, and has been to some of the most incredible Michelin starred restaurants in the world I can honestly say this place is a TOTAL JOKE.The people who've given this place high star ratings have no idea what good food is - the ambiance and the high price tag are the only things that are elevated about this place. The "Truffles et Caviar" was not good - tasted off/musty. Literally a can of caviar and a croissant with little bits of black truffle - it was fine, but I've had 1000x better, especially for the price tag ($225).Frog legs (Cuisses de Grenouille) were bad - not deveined, chewy, greasy, and bland. The terrine (Gâteau de Millefeuille) was ATROCIOUS - tasted like bland jello that encased subpar fois gras and, the topper, a piece of cooked crab in the middle. Did I mention that these were large format? I felt pressured to choke the dishes down, but instead just attempted to eat the fois gras out of the middle hoping the next course would be better. It wasn't.I had the sweetbreads (Ris de Veau en Crépinette) which to this day makes me gag to think of (this experience has taken me months to write because it was so gross I didn't want to relive the horror). It was a slimy cabbage on top of bland baked organs with some fishy sauce - just horrible. My partner had another dish - the Crabe Pithiviers - a crab stuffed croissant which was essentially a fishy pastry. I'm sorry, but does that sound good to you?I seriously think the wait staff at this place laughs at people afterwards because every single thing off this menu is stomach turning, and they have you pay $$$$ for it.Our sommelier was incredible and tried his best to make up for the clearly bad time we were having; I think we each ate two bites of each thing before asking them to take it away - SO SO BAD.Only thing edible here is the dessert - even the dessert cheese is old and molded beyond where cheese should be molded. If we hadn't complained, we would have been out over $1000 to have this horrendous experience.I attempted complaining to Resy since it was rated highly on their platform and it wouldn't allow me to rate the restaurant - seems odd?It makes me horrified to think that people go here thinking this is some great chef or culinary artist - if this is what Angie Mar has to offer, she should really go back to cooking school, absolute horror show.If someone had told me I was being punked or filmed as part of a hilarious TV show where they serve you garbage in fine dining form, this would have made way more sense. Please do yourself a favor and skip this place as you're making your way through the thousands of amazing places that exist in NYC, especially if you'd like to enjoy fine dining at a later date.
Be the first to ReplyJust not great.
And also super-expensive. Three frogs' legs in lemony butter, and a liver in broth (not a great idea, comes out mushy and very livery-tasting; the stringy veggies don't help), plus an extra course of really unfortunate-tasting terrine, a little cheese course and some nothing-special desserts, with a glass of wine and a cocktail, added up to almost $400 (for one person). I guess there's a reason no one bothers with boring classic French cuisine in NYC anymore. Will need to change a lot to get a Michelin star. They're clearly aiming for that, with jackets required, etc. But first they need to figure out how to get the cheese cart to stop bumping into diners' chairs every time it goes by. For now they'll have to settle for a Yelp star.
Be the first to ReplyTo be honest, I'm glad that I did not read the reviews on
To be honest, I'm glad that I did not read the reviews on this site before dining. Another thing I also should not have done was spend any amount of time on the restaurant website more than that necessary to get the information I needed. That experience left me ready to be underwhelmed due to the pretentiousness displayed therein. My partner was the driving force behind this choice of restaurant therefore we went. Regardless, I was pleasantly surprised and left having had a nice evening. The room is gorgeous. No further comment necessary. The important takeaway is the food was excellent. I found the menu inventive and surprisingly approachable. The only complaint I have about the menu is the wine list. There could have been more selections in the sub-$100 range and there seemed to be a dearth of selections from Bordeaux and all that were present were very expensive. The service is where this restaurant really falls short. The captain was what I would call "very present" throughout the evening. The unsolicited, exhaustive description of each dish was unnecessary especially when we really wanted to enjoy our cocktail before delving into the evening and made that clear. Where I agree with other reviewers on this site is the incredibly annoying, very hard upsell. I'm more than happy to hear about something special on the menu or a quick explanation of additional courses available but there is a line that is crossed where the diner, who has already paid (a questionable practice in itself), feels he is now being inappropriately harangued.[A side note: there is no way any martini should cost $35.]The junior staff were attentive and knowledgeable. The service at table was well coordinated and precise. Bravo to them. And finally, just because it's time for the host to go home does not mean that I or the other diners (of which many were still in the house) are finished with the evening. I felt like I was being hustled out after having just dropped a bomb to dine. We had not even paid our bill when we were asked if we were ready for our coats.Would I recommend this restaurant? Even though there is a lot of room for improvement I would ultimately answer yes. I found Ms. Mar engaging and pleasant and more than willing to linger when she approached our table. In my humble opinion the food was well prepared and beautifully presented. My chief complaint is that everyone in the house, and I mean everyone, needs to remember that the patrons are shelling out a boatload of cash for this experience. Everything needs to be perfect. That doesn't seem to be front of mind.

The worst culinary experience.Chef Angie needs to dine with real chefs to understand fine food with that price tag.Eating meager food here and anEmbarrassing establishment and even more so embarrassing chef that puts out paltry food and is calling it fine dining. This establishment is ruse folks.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is embarrassing.
Angie's ego is larger than the sun. The price she is charging for meager dishes is borderline criminal. The faux formality and seriousness of this place is completely contrived. The only thing you feel when you dine at an Angie Mar establishment is uncomfortable, disappointed and robbed. Avoid this place completely.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was disappointing and overpriced.
You're paying for ambiance and service. I thought it was odd that most of tables remained empty during our meal, it was quiet and the amount of staff overwhelmingly outnumbered the clientele. Aside from us, there were only 2 other tables and a couple seated at the bar. If you want consume slabs of gelatinized meat, paired with excellent service - this place is for you! However dinner and 3 rounds of drinks for two people at this place doesn't command the expensive price tag, with tip the check totaled to $800

Fairly disappointed; I am an avid fan of woman chefs and I truly believe in Angie Mar but I have to detail the last experiences. I think as a restaurant that is just starting out and building its name, the team should prioritize cultivating positive relationships with their customers. I visited Angie's restaurant recently and an number of things were not to be served because the chef didn't like the quality of the bird or the quality of the shelfish or whatever excuse, I appreciated her desire to impress but these are things that should be taken care of before the meal not when we already ordered and waited especially when we were the only people dining the whole night we were there. I trusted Angie to prepare a delicacy like the veal brain to perfection but the veal brain came cold and almost a gelatin texture and not creamy like it's supposed to be, also the creme sauce (which was cold as well) around it was over salty and completely tasteless, the frog legs were over cooked and hard and the presentation was confusing and hard to pull apart without messy fingers, and the dungness crab entree was dry and powdery (not flaky) with a random small mound of crab meat in the center that tasted as though it came from the can. I didn't even bother taking the photos after a while because I was thoroughly disappointed. My partner and I tried the caviar because you can't go wrong with caviar and it seems to have been the only thing I enjoyed. Lastly, I have to mention, the friend of mine who recommended the restaurant to me because us two are always on the hunt for impressive woman chefs, came back to the establishment, a few minutes before opening to pick up a set of keys left behind before she and her partner went to Europe for a few months, Angie at first wouldn't let her staff open the door to my friend even tho she managed to get there 10 minutes before opening so she wouldn't interrupt their service that night, mind you, it was freezing rain outside, when she persisted, Angie had someone open the door and Angie rudely asked my friend what she wanted, my friend prefaced with acknowledging Angie and saying it was nice to meet her and before she could finish the sentence Angie shouted that she was interrupting their restaurant. She says she felt like because of her skin she didn't belong there even though she had dined there before. My friend is a beautiful black woman who carries herself with exceptional class so this came as a shock to me and I hate that she had to feel that way. She said she told them she had been trying to reach them about a set of keys left behind but no one answered the phone and Angie stomped over saying there were never any calls made. My friend just wanted to get out at this point and just asked if her keys were there or not. Angie opened a drawer and picked up her keys and dropped them in her hand like a dirty pair of underwear while throwing a petty smile and an eye roll. My friend kept her cool but she was so disappointed and shocked at Angie's rudeness, due to her being a fan previously. Angie's staff literally looked embarrassed at her temper. It was only then that I shared with my friend the more than mediocre experience I had at the restaurant because my friend calling me on the way home from the restaurant was the tipping point. I then decided the rest of the world should know how Angie's poor restaurant experience matches her poor personality. And as I said before I think as a restaurant that is just starting out and building its name, the team should cultivating positive relationships with their customers. I'm so disappointed that everyone here can agree chef Angie is tremendously rude. It makes me sad and the food can't even make up for it.

In a word terrible! Well maybe horrific or god awful Is a better choice of words. Angie Mar is a very capable excellent chef. I'm shocked she would let that mush out of here kitchen. She must know it taste's terrible. Unfortunately here she's lost the plot. Any review which gives this more than one star is complete nonsense posted by the owners. I can't express how bad the food and experience were! if I were Angie I'd be embarrassed. Over priced is the understatement of the century. it was unedible! Angie.... Before you go bust bring back the Beatrice Inn menu and maybe you will stay in business! That may not be enough!!! By the way a little humility wouldn't go a miss Angie. Your attitude sucks and it's not helping your business.
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunately I can't do Zero stars.
Over priced, payment demanded when reservation was made and it included a mandatory tip of 20% - pompous and presumptuous. NONE OF THE STAFF WORE MASKS VIOLATING COVID RULES! I have been to 3 star Michelin restaurants that charge less and serve properly. Artichoke sorbet and mushroom ice cream are just stupid. Orders of frogs legs usually include more than 4 legs. The wine list didn't have any Bordeaux - they came back with a corrected wine list (obviously forgot a page). With COVID, I didn't think sharing deserts at $185 a person (not including beverages) without serving utensils was acceptable. Should be called Les Trois Cheveux. The staff was so terrified that they kept making mistakes. All in all, pathetically overpriced, staffed by ignorant millennials pompously pretending to be French.
