Lula Cafe Chicago Reviews
Fatherβs Day couple
We were there on Saturday 6/15 around 6 pm we order salad, roasted chicken, bruschetta and fritas. We were told that they are busy inside and we need to sit outside. Food came late and chicken was cold and the bruschetta was really soggy. Not worth the money they charged service ok.
Epic brunch thatβs affordable
Totally epic, eclectic dishes, crazy flavor combinations. Easley amongst the top 3 best breakfast restaurants in the city, easily one of the best breakfast sandwiches in the city, easily one of the most delicious cocktails EVER. Did I mention itβs affordable?!? I donβt think a single thing on the menu tops $20 including the drinks. Service is a tad slow in regards to placing your order & getting the food in front of you but who cares when itβs this good.
Actually think the breakfast burrito is not bad, but it's
Actually think the breakfast burrito is not bad, but it's really pricy for a breakfast burrito. Was not that special either. It was nice and toasted, but that's about it. I've had better breakfast burritos for cheaper
This is my first review but oh my god, Lula Cafe is a must
This is my first review but oh my god, Lula Cafe is a must visit if you're in/from Chicago The food was incredible, and the service was even better. Rikki was my server and she was so so kind and helpful the entire time. We ordered the baked feta plate, pasta yiayia, ginger beer and the carrot cake. I'm not usually a carrot cake person but this was definitely one of the best ones I've tried. I truly wish I wasn't full so fast so I could try more food
So glad I was suggested lula! My server Rikki was a great
So glad I was suggested lula! My server Rikki was a great host for our first visit here, leaving us wanting to come back for more. The dining room had a great atmosphere, very homely, yet unique. Every bite was amazing and I genuinely could not get enough. Recommend the beet bruschetta and chickpea frites, which I saw on just about every table. The pasta yiayia was unexpectedly amazing. I didn't know what to think since it seems like a sweet pasta, but the flavors went to get her so well and paired nicely with the caesar salad, which was very citrusy. Desserts were amazing of course, the basil gelato was a nice touch. Definitely will be coming back for lunch!
Can't stop thinking about this place since yesterday.
I hope you get a table! For one, our server (stunning person btw) was very kind and seemed genuinely happy to be there. She was very attentive to each table and was patient about my order as I came in a few minutes behind my table mates. The menu was familiar yet, some had a twist. I was stuck between three brunch options. My friends chose the French toast with a side of bacon and the garlic spaetzle. I since I could tell the menu was full of carefully paired ingredients, I opted for the humble biscuits and gravy and chai after glancing at it. This was a risk since I mildly like biscuits and gravy in general. When the food came, it was very hard not to take photo! My friend's spaetzle specifically looked like art. The flowers and microgreens looked expertly placed. (Very instagram-able if that matters to you) What's better is everyone loved their food. I might be biased in saying that, mine was a standout. Both my friends, who tried my food were visibly shocked at how good it was. What typically is a fairly mid albeit comforting dish, turned out to take comfort to a lavish level. The dish gravy was thick and richhhhh to the point that the egg seemed superfluous. The generous portions of Italian sausage were surprisingly flavorful. Finally, the biscuits elevated the dish completely. To put it simply, they were what I always wished biscuits could be. They were light yet they maintained some density and structure amidst a sea of mouthwatering gravy. They had subtle hint of orange extract that was so seamless with every component but also changed the entire dish into something more. I don't think I could ever have another biscuits and gravy dish and not compare it to this. Definitely a new standard. Overall, this is the kind of food that I wish I could lick off the plate and would happily wait for.
I was incredibly excited to eat at Lula and I'm happy to
I was incredibly excited to eat at Lula and I'm happy to report that it did not disappoint! The waitstaff are incredibly friendly and seem genuinely happy to be there. I had the green garlic spaetzle, which was presented artfully and tasted incredible-- it had a similar oniony, savory flavor profile to the classic German rendition of the dish, but a smattering of herbs (I believe fennel fronds, parsley, and maybe mint?), edible flowers, and crunchy breadcrumbs took it to the next level. My only complaint is that I wish there were more of it-- the serving size was quite small. I also tried a bit of my friend's biscuits & gravy, which was delicious. The biscuit was fluffy and buttery, and the twist to this classic dish came in the form of Italian fennel sausage and an unexpected citrusy note. Any enthusiast of Italian food will recognize that fennel and orange is a familiar pairing, but typically in the form of a salad. We both found this very inventive. Overall, Lula is a vibrant community institution with a young, fashion-forward vibe. Excited to come back!
Culinary Gem
Lula Cafe in Chicago is a culinary haven. Its cozy atmosphere and inventive dishes, sourced locally, make it a standout. With friendly service and a commitment to sustainability, it's a must-visit for any food enthusiast in the city.
I'm so happy I found Lula's!!!! Such an amazing gem right
I'm so happy I found Lula's!!!! Such an amazing gem right in Logan Square. From the look of the restaurant on Google, I assumed it would be a small intimate cafe, but I was wrong. The restaurant inside is huge, with two large dining rooms on either side of the kitchen. They have a regular menu that features their popular breakfast and lunch items, and then a small special menu that changes frequently. If you're visiting for breakfast or lunch, know that they do NOT take reservations. I went around 1:30pm on a Sunday and was seated almost immediately. The food was delicious and the service was lovely. Great experience all around!
Great food -- chickpea frites are a revelation.
Only reason for 4 stars is my server at the bar was very rude to me. For ex: I was sitting across from the bar, having a water while waiting for a chair at the bar to open up. I was looking through the happy hour menu the hostess had given me (she said I could order a happy hour drink once I got at the bar). When I was seated at the bar, the waitress literally *snatched* the happy hour menu out of my hands and said "happy hour is over" (it was 2 min after the hour). I can understand a strict happy hour policy but her tone was so bizarrely aggressive. That + her general attitude toward me throughout my dinner made for an uncomfortable (solo) dining experience :(
Short wait, clean restaurant, and amazing food.
Small menu but there is still plenty to choose from. I highly recommend the baked feta. It was absolutely delicious. Water was served as soon as we sat down and that small gesture makes a HUGE difference if the waiter or waitress is busy. Gives you time to really look through the menu.
Delicious but frustrating and annoying
We visit our kids several times a year and Lulaβs has become a tradition for Sunday breakfast. It means getting up early, it means standing in line and usually itβs worth it! It is so frustrating when you love a place and they let you down. We were seated and waited and waited and waitedβ¦the people next to us had a server taking their order and they entered just before us. It was apparent no server had been assigned to our tableβ¦until I complained and then finally! But of course this put our order late into the kitchen and again we waited and waited. The food was great as usual but I prefer my meal without aggravation. As we left someone asked if everything was ok and I told them what I thought and got a variety of excuses and a mild disbelieving stare.. We were disappointed this time is all I can say.

Great brunch spot! I had something else in mind when I ordered the tofu scramble but I still enjoyed my meal. They have some great veggie options. It's always packed and there's a good vibe.
Great tasting food, I like the sourdough French toast, not
Great tasting food, I like the sourdough French toast, not too sweet, a bit dry, but good. The French omelet comes with a good tasting salad, i also like the nice ambiance and decoration. The staff is friendly and didn't get information from the server, but she did come and check a couple of times. The wait is long on those busy days and no other way to check in on mobile app but the is a book store near by to check it out while waiting for the text to let you know the table is ready, they give you ten minutes to arrive after the text. The bar is first come, first serve. It was with the wait. In the summer, they do offer outdoor seating. Their menu is short and good. It is a bit loud since the noise travels well. Feel free to take a walk at the park and monument nearby. On Sundays in the summer, there is a farmers market. Service is included at 20 and fell free to leave more. Paid parking in front and around, I'll come again.
If you're in Chicago this spot should be added to your must
If you're in Chicago this spot should be added to your must do list. Although the restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, what awaits inside will definitely wow you. The super friendly hostess lead to a funky side room caulk full of patrons, which was impressive at 10pm. We started with the baked French feta which came with 4 supersized pieces of bread. Normally when I order dips I have to ask for extra bread... but not this time. I had more bread than dip! Needless to say I was very happy. The oysters came out next. They were super fresh and the mignonette was fantastic. The roast chicken arrived next. Wow. Super filling and delicious. I could have eaten a bowl of the bitter greens alone. Lastly was the spaghetti. This I have to say was the least favorite of the night. It came in a salsa rosa which was more of a lo mein texture (greasy) and the flavor was definitely not a typical red or pink sauce. However, I could see how someone else would like this medley.
4 stars overall - 5 stars for the food and hostess on the
4 stars overall - 5 stars for the food and hostess on the day of our visit and 1 star for our waitress. We came in on a Monday and it seemed like there were more people than usual because it was the first warm day of the year, so people were out and about. Makes sense. We were quoted a 45-minute wait time and were called to be seated in 60. Also makes sense because stuff happens. We enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and getting our vitamin D in, so no big deal. As soon as we were seated, we knew what to order and placed our order pretty quickly. Got our food and everything tasted amazing (got the buttermilk pancakes, which are the best in the city and the turkey sandwich with bacon). For reasons we couldn't figure out, our waitress was one-sided beefing with us. We're really low maintenance people and didn't ask for anything, so why she ignored us and maybe was mad with us is confusing. I think she only had the tables on the stage and after we placed our order, she never checked on us and took the longest time to get our check. Ultimately, it took greater than 30 minutes after we asked for a box and placed our napkins on the table to signal we were done to get a check. I had to take a work call so my husband took care of paying the bill while I stepped outside, but he didn't exit the restaurant until after 15-20 minutes I did as he had to ask our waitress for our bill, despite it being past 2 pm and with fewer customers than when we started our meal. When he paid the bill and thanked our waitress, she just looked at him, took the check, and walked away. Huh. The person bussing the table was lovely and very helpful, so she and the hostess really helped offset this really weird experience. I guess we'll be back for the amazing food and otherwise really nice staff, but we're hoping we don't get to work with that particular waitress again. Things that are great at Lula: the turkey sandwich with slaw, pancakes, any of the French toast they offer, and pastries. Things that aren't great: weird service where the waitress is mad at you for reasons unknown.
Found this very popular spot for brunch while browsing on
Found this very popular spot for brunch while browsing on Yelp! I was glad I was able to try something savory plus something sweet here! I would def recommend the biscuits and gravy ($22) but I do wish the portion sizes of their dishes were slightly bigger considering their prices. I was sad seeing how much potatoes I got since it was $6. I did enjoy the sourdough French toast and while the strawberry rhubarb jam was yummy, I think the dish could've benefitted from having more fresh strawberries on it! Service was quick and attentive. This spot gets busy but they text you once your table is ready so you can walk around the neighborhood if the weather is nice!!
Truly delicious.
I loved that the menu isn't meat centric. Excellent relaxed service compliments the comfortable atmosphere
Forever & Always!
Feels like decades this place has been a go-to spot for a delicious brunch or dinner. Highly recommend! The typical "Chicago dinner" menu rules don't exist here as dishes are inventive and deliver so many Vegetarian and Vegan options. The wine list featured a sparking from Lebanon - love that! The feta, the vegetable tagine, mushrooms - all perfectly perfect.

We went to Lula Cafe for dinner on a late Friday evening with a reservation. Our table was ready early and we were notified in case we wanted to pop by early. We were seated right away. The table was a little tight as we also had our LO in the carseat but later when a bigger space opened up, the staff accommodated our move! The ambience was vibrant. We ordered the beetroot bruschetta, french onion soup and baked feta to start with. My favorite was the baked feta - it was immensely flavorful and usually not a fan of olives, they were delicious! The beetroot bruschetta was surprisingly yummy as the ingredients complimented each other very well! We ordered the chickpea tagine and spaghetti for main dishes. The chickpea tagine has been on my list to try out for a while and it was really good! However, the disappointment of the night was the spaghetti which seemed very dry and wasn't flavorful at all. We also had chocolate mousse desert which was awesome. However it had a sour ingredient which I couldn't identify that didn't compliment too well. Overall, we had a good experience!
So delicious! Wonderful and hospitable service! Cozy
So delicious! Wonderful and hospitable service! Cozy atmosphere. Can't stop thinking about the food! Dishes were beautifully presented and yummy. Will definitely be back.
Amazing fresh creative food, lovely atmosphere, kind and
Amazing fresh creative food, lovely atmosphere, kind and attentive staff. We had a lovely birthday dinner and the birthday surprises they provided (I won't spoil the surprise) were such a wonderful touch. I can't wait to come back again!
Great Breakfast/Brunch
Trendy, hip vibe. Enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. Upbeat music which I personally enjoyed. Creative, fresh menu. I tried one of the special menu options that day & very much enjoyed it. My only constructive comment is that the host & waitress we had could have been a bit more welcoming/pleasant. Neither really said much of anything aside from seating at the table and receiving the order. Would definitely go back. Easy parking.
Inventive & delicious!!!
What can I say...the food is inventive & outstanding. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu & the ingredients in each dish. The drinks also are inventive & interesting. Such a wonderful treat for one's tastebuds. Will return again & again...assuming we can get reservations :)
Amazing food, meh service
The food was absolutely amazing. I had the breakfast burrito. The eggs were light and fluffy (I'm not a fan of eggs generally and these were good). Tons of food and served quickly. Our server was practically absent. He took our order and we've yet to see him again but the food makes up for his service.
Lula Cafe Delivers
Lula Cafe has been on my list of restaurants to try for several years and yesterday I finally got to have lunch there. Food was excellent and unique. I had the sweet corn and ricotta omelet. Perfection. I understand why it gets the raves that it does.
Worth a visit for the scrambled eggs alone
My daughter told me we needed to get to Lula right when it opened if we hoped to grab a table and she was right! Shortly after nine, the line was already well out the door but the host was efficiently filling tables inside and outside the cafe. We were seated indoors not long after and with a lovely latte to get me going, I took my daughterβs recommendation and ordered the Classic Lula Breakfast Burrito. Lula Cafe has transformed the humble breakfast burrito into a wondrous delight. The scrambled eggs alone deserve five stars and when paired with avocado, tomato, potato, cheddar, green chili sofrito and a trio of dipping sauces, you have a masterpiece on your plate. Itβs big, too. Lulaβs is a must if you are in Logan Square. The vibe is fun, decor is quirky, service is attentive and the gratuity is automatically added, ensuring servers a fair wage. Recommended.
Outstanding!!
Outstanding!! From the minute we entered this restaurant I knew we were at the right spot! The food is fabulous with a seasonal changing menu. The waiter was also great. Would highly recommend when in Chicago!
Really incredible neighborhood retaurant but since the food
Really incredible neighborhood retaurant but since the food ROCKS, it is also a destination place! Menu changes frequently and offers amazingly diverse variety of creative dishes. Service was consistently excellent throughout the meal. It was a bit noisy but it was filled with lots of very happy patrons. Bloody Mary was delicious. Sherberts (apple/basil & another one with dates) were a perfect ending to a showstopping meal. We live in OR but hope ro return the next time we're visiting family in Chi town.
Consistently great food & drinks.
Breakfast/brunch at the bar is my favorite. Attentive, friendly service. Love the big windows & local vibe.
The food here is great, as well as the drinks.
They have a nice ambiance and I enjoy every visit.
I went to Lula Cafe on a Friday evening for dinner.
I never been however the people I went with lives near by and recommended it and raved about the brunch (in which I plan on trying) the food was more exciting than I'm used to but I stepped out my comfort zone and tried a little bit of everything due to all dishes were sharable's. The service was great even though we had an initial waitress the entire staff helped us through our time. The atmosphere was dimly lite and not to loud where you couldn't hear the people you were with. They also have coat check which I appreciated.
One of my Al time favorites.
I've been coming here for over 20 years since it was a joke in the wall with amazing food. I watched it grow and it has always been a local Logan Square favorite for thousands.
Finally.
Got. To. Go. Here! Wheeeeew it's been a long time coming yall! We arrived at 1:30 with a 20-30 minute wait (please note they close at 3:00 yall. Don't be like my friend and I. She had been previously and said it was good enough to return and try a new dish. So that was already a plus for me. Ambiance: it's a pretty big establishment. The bar is super large and they have window seating. I love a good bar seat or window seat at quaint brunch places like this. We sat at neither but that's not the point. Let's focus lol When we were seated, our server greeted us and explained the menu/ answered any questions we had. We both orders the Smoked Trout Scramble. As you can see from the photo, the plating of the food is set to perfection and if you smell good smells from the photo, it was better in person. Mmmkay! I've never had fish in my eggs. Where I'm from we don't do that. But Lula did an impeccable job fusing together the two items without the taste or smell being overpowering. Heck! We forgot what we ordered because they hid it so well in the eggs. Their potatoes are seasoned and crisped perfectly and they did something to that jam because it was just a little too good. Ask for their hot sauce! It's like a sirscha, sweet chili and ketchup mixture. Idk how to describe it better than that but you know for sure it's made in house. I'll be returning for more especially their specials!
Lula delivered another wonderful meal! My friend and I
Lula delivered another wonderful meal! My friend and I shared the leek and Chestnut parmesan, which was great. It was pretty small, just enough to share. I had a new dish on the menu as the main: white sweet potato and trumpet mushrooms. It was delicious, but incorrectly categorized as a large plate. It was about the same size as the leek/chestnut parm. For the price it should really have been at *least* 30% larger. Even after ending our meal with a lovely popcorn creme brulee, I left a little hungry and had to have a snack before bed.
Everything is delicious and service is on point.
Great place for a nice meal with your better half of good friends. Support this great local business!

Great place for Sunday brunch ! My family and I enjoyed the ambiance. Delicious food too!
They make your food fast.
Ten minutes tops and your food will be at your table. Prices are fair also. I like this place
Cute little gem
Nice menu, not overwhelming, very creative. There is enough variety to please a group. Good service.
Great spot!
We came for a slow Saturday brunch and had an incredible meal! Food, service, and vibe were all great. We will definitely be eating here again next time weβre in town.
Not a quick experience
Took over an hour to get our entrees. The beet bruschetta was great if you like goat cheese which we received quickly. The polenta was way over priced for the amount of polenta I received and the broccolini was tough. The bucatini noodles with the cinnamon was not good but I also donβt have a palate for that either.
