Lunario Restaurante Valle de Guadalupe Reviews from The Last Year

The food at this restaurant was top notch in taste, colors, texture, presentation, and above all, service. The wine pairing includes a special beer and cocktail between some dishes, not just wine. Benjamin was passionate and knowledgeable sommelier and Jesus gave us excellent waitresses service. The smoked oyster served on a thin cracker was delicious and fresh, the Asian flair of the crunchy crab was fantastic, the sea bass taco in pink corn and the blue corn tamale were all unique and full of flavors that made your palette dance. You must try this place for late lunch or dinner when you come to Valle de Guadalupe. We were very late due to our small car and muddy dark roads from the rain and they accommodated us without rushing us. I can't wait to return to Lunario - it will have a Michelin star one day! Be sure to ask them in advance the best way to get there if you are driving yourself.
Do not miss it!
Amazing farm to table food and wine with a Mexican flare and some Asian flavors mixed in. Go here - best meal of your life. Smoked oyster, sea bass taco in pink corn tamale, vegetarian options, goat barbacoa, wine pairing including a sake, beer, and pomegranate cocktail mixed in. Unique, creative, delicious, incredible staff! Michelin star worthy!
Top 3 fine dining experience in all of Mexico
Lunario is exceptional. Chef Sheyla showcases her skills in dishes ranging from: smoked carrots w/feta in a creamy soup to cabrito served in an almost asian style chili oil. Each dish is balanced and perfectly seasoned. The ambiance is definitely more fine dining but staff keeps things light. Jesus, Benjamin [sommelier] and Bryan were super cool and even recommended local spots nearby. This restaurant champions farm to table and is definitely a top 3 fine dining experience in all of Mexico. Would highly recommend!

Lunario was hands down the best dining experience in Mexico.
In my top 3 favorite of all time. The food was amazing and very creative. My favorite was the tamale that was made with ashes from the spices that they used. The ambiance of the restaurant was charming as well. The service was incredible. We had ran into car troubles due to navigating the dirt roads in Mexico. Brian the manager came out and walked down the road with a flashlight to find us. The staff was attentive and Brian even helped us navigate to the main road via phone when we left. The staff here was exceptional and so was the food. If you are looking for the best restaurant in Ensenada look no further.
Disappointing
We have been here before. First time was an awesome experience. This last time was average at best. I know itβs a tasting menu but the portions were significantly smaller than our other visit. The wine pours for the pairings were very small(thimble size) with no refills. For most dishes we were finished with our wine before we finished with the food. Last time we were there there was a generous pour plus the waiter was ask if weβd care for a bit more. Also, when we were there before there were more than 5-6 wineries for the pairings. This time there were only 2. The service seemed rushed, which was odd as we were the last seating for the evening . On our previous visit the course was explained explicitly and the same with the wine pairing. This time the explanations were just rattled off with generic comments. We paid a premium price for the experience but the whole experience was average. Many other restaurants to go to in the Valley de Guadalupe. Most likely our last visit to Lunario. We had really hyped up Lunario to our special friends who had never been here. It was disappointing for all of us.

Lunario Restaurante was truly a highlight of my Valle de Guadalupe experience. As we searched in the night for our dinner spot, it appeared like a magical mirage in the dark countryside. All of a sudden, there were twinkling lights and the sound of running water as we approached a pond with waterfall, and a storybook bridge. A waiter greeted us and led us into a 7 table room, warm and intimate. We were given the choice of a 4 or 6 course prix fix meal with wine pairing. We chose the 4, which included a wonderful amuse buche of raw shrimp on a crisp cornmeal platform. We were off to a good start. A wonderful, savory butternut squash soup followed, then raw sea bass in a chilled coconut sauce with melon. A fabulous duck dish was the last course before our palate cleansing pre-dessert and then the finale featuring fried plantain, corn and other flavors. The food was elegant, fresh, and innovative. Our party was asked about our particular preferences, and were accommodated. The waitstaff were attentive, yet inobtrusive. Benjamin, the sommelier, was personable, informative, and confident. We had a delightful experience, and I can't recommend them highly enough.

Tried this place a couple years ago and enjoyed it, but
Tried this place a couple years ago and enjoyed it, but just went back Aug 2023 and thoroughly loved it. Small and not too loud with great service , 2 plates brought out together by 2 waiters each time. Superb attention to detail on the presentations of our 4 (or 6) courses only surpassed by the remarkable luscious tastes assembled with fresh ingredients. Our go to Valle restaurant used to be Laja, but this has surpassed our recent meals there. So good!
Great food and service.
You need to go. Set menu but you'll love it. I'm def going back.
When I heard this was a woman chef leading the way for VDG
When I heard this was a woman chef leading the way for VDG culinary scene, I was ecstatic! People said this was better than Deckmans, we were hyped. It is a small place, very intimate. The inside has a clear roof and you can see the kitchen and all the staff. Reminds me of the movie "the menu". They start you with this herb water, which was pretty refreshing, I was a fan. We were able to split tasting menus, half of us getting the 4 course and the other half the 6 course. I got the 6 course. Let me say, the food was a big disappointment, especially if you're expecting some protein or meat. It was mostly all vegetables and variations of different cream. It got super boring after the first 3 items were cream. Started with the amuse bouche which was the shrimp sope, a small bite, pretty decent. The first course was an asparagus, tomatillo and cream. It went well with bread, kind of like vegan bagel and cream cheese feel. Then the 2nd, crudo, with another cream. Barely any pieces of crudo, it was mostly cream. I ate some and didn't want to eat the rest, too creamy. The 3rd was the grilled oyster mushroom, which was pretty decent. The 4th was this fried soft shell crab with this mole cream. It was too salty, and not regular mole. Super salty and oily. The 5th was a smoked lamb. The lamb was good except you get like 1oz of it and again a another cream. The palate cleanser was a kumquat sorbet, it was a good palate cleanser, especially that there was no cream. The final dessert was yogurt, beet and AGAIN a raspberry cream. 5 dishes with a cream. Similar cream but slightly different flavoring. Everything was flat, boring and one noted cream. The only good thing was the service. Which was impeccable. I would not recommend this unless you just want to eat a bunch of vegetables and cream. I can't believe this got so many high ratings. Did we miss something?! Our whole group agreed that this was one of the most disappointing tasting menu we tasted. I would say a 2.5 for food.

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
