Poor service
Service is seriously lacking. After being seated along with the other 3 tables of customers at the time, we waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged. There were at least 5 employees chatting while we waited. Food was mediocre at best and prices are high. Every time the door opens, it sounds like it's coming off the hinges. We won't be back.
Be the first to ReplySaturday brunch! Wonderful!
My husband and I have been to this restaurant once before in May. We enjoyed it then so thought we would go again. They serve a Saturday and Sunday brunch until 2 and OH MY GOODNESS. We had great service. It was somewhat busy but it seemed like it wasn't taking long for people to get their food. The best part for us is that we didn't feel rushed. Some people came in, ate, and left pretty quickly. Others lingered and visited with family and friends. You could dine at your own pace and I loved this. We enjoyed our food greatly and I even enjoyed a couple of drinks. The Black Cherry Mojito and the Pineapple Pina. Our food was so delicious and they serve the best guacamole we have ever had. There were only a couple of servers but they were efficient and calm. It did seem like they were taking orders and seating people. But we found it to be very efficient and never encountered a wait for anything. The prices are moderately high but we feel it is worth it for what you get and the portions. Looking at the menu you could definitely find things on the lower end of price too. We will definitely be back.

First time visit. I gave it a 3 for a couple reasons. First, it took them forever to acknowledge us when we came in, and left us standing annoyingly long before even acting like they saw us and got us seated. It got better AFTER that. The food was good, alittle pricey, but descent portion sizes. The salsa was great. Service was good and friendly. I would go back
Be the first to ReplyGOOD FOOD, BUT A HORRIBLE VALUE OVERALL!
We have been coming to Maize for quite some time but will not be doing so again. Yesterday our party of 4 adults and 2 children ate at Maize and the service was absolutely terrible. This was not the fault of the server, but the fault of management not having enough staff to cover the clientele. The food was good, but when the check came there was an automatic tip added of 25% for a party of 6. If the service had been excellent, I might have viewed this differently, but it was absolutely awful! It took twice as long to eat as it should have and requests were not accomodated. in a timely manner at all. This is unacceptable. Will not be back any time soon!
Be the first to ReplyDismal service! Make sure you check what youโre receiving before you leave!!
I placed an order for pickup at Maize, which I have done many times in the past, but this time, the service was poor and below standard. I had two entreeโs and an order of a side of chips and salsa. Technically, I should have received three containers of salsa; that was not the case, I received only one. I had placed an order for a watermelon juice with no ice; only to get an order of lemonade with ice. If I wouldnโt have checked then and there, I would have to come back to return the drink. When I requested that I get the correct drink, if was filled up to 3/4 of the cup and I was told that that is the amount of drink that they fill the cup with with and the rest was for ice. I asked to speak with a manger because it seemed like the servers were not interested in fulfilling the order with due diligence. The manager was the guy I was talking to; some 20 year old college student, who didnโt know much about customer service! This has been, by far, my worst experience at Maize! Word of caution! Make sure you check your order before you leave!!!

Iโm a local and have been eating here for several years but went in today with a small group of friends and was shocked how the quality of food here has gone down. No seasonings what so ever on the tacos or fajitas, menu has recently changed at least at the downtown location located on Chestnut Street. No longer possible to order tacos a la cart need to now order at least 3 and they start at $15 , this does include a small portion of rice and beans. If you choose a grilled meat on your taco there is an addition charge of 75 cents per taco. I would expect these prices in a big city but a small town like Champaign it seems a little ridiculous. Even the veggie tacos with basically lettuce &tomato and small amount of avocado is $15 for 3. When my friend asked to speak to the manager about the quality, taste and price of the veggie tacos the manager was shockingly rude and defensive to us. Despite all the times my family has enjoyed meals here over the years we will be finding another place to enjoy Mexican food in the future.

DELICIOUS. I have almost zero plans of driving through this area again, but I'm sad I won't because this food was so goood!
Be the first to ReplyI really like authentic Mexican food like the kind you get here.
Must be doing something right when your patrons criss cross every demographic conceivable and everyone likes what you make.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Mexican food with equally excellent service
Family wanted to try out this most talked about Mexican outlet in town and they did not fail to impress us. The food and the service were both just great. Fresh tacos & nachos. The rice drink was beyond this world. The place is too small for a eat in though. Take away is a option to enjoy your food at leisure outside or at home.
Be the first to ReplyBest Mexican Food Ever!!
What a find this place was! Since the owner is gluten free, everything served is as well. Veganand vegetarian options are available as well. At first, we went to the take out station on Green street but were told about the fabulous restaurant off University with parking in the rear. I had the best Enchilada with zucchini squash that Iโve ever eaten! This was preceded but chunky guacamole and freshly deep fried tortilla chips. We also had the best waiter ever. She made helpful suggestions and had a great personality. Highly recommend this establishment!!!
Be the first to ReplyLine out the door
There is a reason you may see a line of students out the door at their take-out location. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. The building has a sit-down area for maybe 10 people. Everyone else waited outside for their order. I think they have a main restaurant with more seating. Yum.
Be the first to ReplyGreat, More Authentic Mexican Place in Champaign
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Champaign. It tends to be on the more authentic side so if you are looking for Taco Bell, this is not your place. If you like amazing cheese, try the Queso Fundido which I have not found anywhere else. The tacos, burritos, and chips and salsa are also great.

Normally I order a chicken dish but decide 2 days ago to indulge in the burrito with Al Pastor (pork). It was a transformative eating experience, but I just couldnโt finish it. Will get a taco next time! All the flavor, less guilt.
