This is a nice little bar in lenexa.
They have some really good drink specials that last all week. There are also some food specials that run all week as well. I have not tried the food in awhile, but the low priced drinks bring in a decent crown and usually makes for a good time.

... so maybe this review is a little biased as I happen to be K-State alum and this is my favorite K-State bar in the KC area (I only know of 2). I spent several hours here just yesterday watching my Wildcats in the NCAA tournament and had a blast. I would imagine this would be a fun place for just about anyone to watch a game no matter the day or sport. I hadn't been here in a year or two (its been bad times for K-State sports the previous year) and I was shocked to find that they serve $1 beers, burgers, and shots everyday. While this is a good deal, there are some things that need explaining. The $1 beers are 9oz domestic, so basically $2 for a normal beer, still a deal. The burgers are not real big, no they aren't sliders, but I would recommend a double ($1 more) and I have an average appetite. They are however very tasty and clearly hand pattied fresh. Lettuce, tomato, cheese, bacon, are all ala carte and cost an additional $.25-50. The fries and onion rings are $1 each and both notably delicious, however both come in small portions. The shots are a packaged product that are only 12% alcohol, but again at $1 each, you figure 3 of them equals a normal shot, so $3 shots are still a deal. Big patio for warm day drinking! When its nice they open up the garage doors and the whole place is open air. So Kites probably deserves a 4 star rating as a sports bar. But a K-State sports bar will always get 5 stars from me!

I live within walking distance of Kite's, which is a nice amenity. It is the best bar in the Shawnee-Merriam-Lenexa-Overland Park confluence (i.e., the Four Towns area). The food is above average, and not the least bit scary. The beer selection is also pretty decent. In addition to the domestics, they have the two predictable Boulevard brews on tap. You can also get Guinness, Killian's, and Blue Moon. The atmosphere is pleasant, and fairly laid back. You don't need to worry about a fight breaking out. The only real problem I've noticed is that it can be somewhat sparse on Friday and Saturday nights, when it should be attracting a crowd. I believe they have tried to address this by bringing in live music, DJs, and some wacky contests. I think the best approach is actually much simpler, which brings me to my final observation. What I find so surprising is that so few people walk to Kite's. It is surrounded by apartment complexes, which provides relatively high population density -- at least by suburban standards. If Kite's has not marketed itself to these nearby apartment dwellers, then it should seriously think about this option. I understand most suburbanites find the concept of utilitarian walking to be foreign, but I think they'd make an exception for bars.

This is not one of my regular bars but went there Saturday night with the roommate as it is close to our house and something different. Plus CHEAP SHOTS even on the weekend. $1 each for 7 different shots (the girly kind) and $2 for several drop shots. It should be noted that the energy drink they use for the special is Roaring Lion. Which I find to be okay....not a bad substitute for the price since it at least tastes similar (to Red Bull). And the special "Jager" is really Alpen Wolfe which also is similar. Of coarse if you want the real stuff they got that too; it'll just cost ya. And UV for vodka which I find to be a great potato juice. As other reviewers have said this is your typical sports bar. Nothing wrong with that in my book as I actually like to be able to talk to people in the bar. Be warned that this definitely is a K-State bar and the decor on the wall lets you know the moment you walk in. So it is great spot to watch the game. And speaking of watching the game...they have more flat panel TV's than Best Buy! It seems like no matter what way you are facing you always have several different displays/channels to watch. Will I go back? Sure. Nice bar that is right down the road with good prices. Probably could be a lot of fun with a big group...but aren't all bars that way?

I have finally found my replacement bar for our recently deceased Mickey's Irish Pub. Thursday night is dollar drink night and the drinks are pretty good. I tried the salon salad and it was delicious. The waitress was snappy with the drinks and friendly. Our table even had its own flat screen TV. Everywhere.... giant TVs! This place is so close to where I live, I wish I would have realized how awesome it was sooner! Just think of all the dollar drink nights I've missed.

Kite's is a sports bar that started in my hometown of Manhattan, Kansas. They have a lot of history in Manhattan and are trying to branch out by coming to KC. Kite's is basically your average sports bar and grille; they have the usual bar/american food: burgers, simple salads, and nachos, etc. This makes is a pretty casual atmosphere that is perfect for hanging out after work with some buddies or co-workers or coming in to watch a game when you don't want to sit at home by yourself. The southwest egg rolls are pretty amazing (not as good as Gordon Biersch's...but still) and of course you can't go wrong with mozzerella sticks. I had the southwest chicken wrap (I like things spicy), and it wasn't as spicy as I had anticipated but was still good and filling. The spicy ranch they serve with some of their dishes (basically anything with southwest in the title) is really good. The waitstaff is just as casual as the bar itself and are friendly. When it's slow, they seem to be pre-occupied with their own boredom (understandable) but overall try their best to make you happy, which is all I can ask for! I'm glad I can go to Kite's when I'm feeling a little homesick for the fratty-filled Kite's of my college days, but I try to do so sparingly so I don't enjoy myself too much. :)
