Mastro's Steakhouse Santa Clara Reviews from The Last Year
We tried this location because it's been opened for awhile.
I was hoping to get to sig upstairs and look down at people walking by but too bad they closed the upstairs area probably due to some party or someone book it. The food is ok. I've ate at the SF location and it's better. The service was good but the waitress did forget some of our order but in the end they gave us some discounts for that and was apologetic. We were full and didn't need those dish anymore but they insisted still on giving us some discounts which is great service in my opinion. They have live music playing here as well. There's also a bar area for those who just wanted to grab a drink and listen to music.

At Mastro Restaurant, guests are treated to a sophisticated menu featuring exquisite dishes, such as their famous steak cuts and seafood specialties, expertly served by staff members like Arecelli and Tia. The service is impeccable, with these attentive team members ensuring a memorable dining experience. The ambiance exudes elegance, making it perfect for special occasions. Overall, Mastro Restaurant is a top-notch choice for fine dining, and I highly recommend it.
Wow wow wow, what an experience.
We love Mastro's. Our bartender, Rubel, was amazing. Our server, Penny was beyond exceptional - her knowledge of the menu and ability to listen to us and our likes/dislikes, was fantastic. Tailor-made recommendations just for us. Manager Mike stole the show with his service, touch points/check ins, and everything in-between. 12/10 rating, would highly recommend. The food was worth every penny we paid: delicious, savory, and well-portioned. What an experience start to finish. Side note: even David our busser, was pleasant and fun and awesome.
TLDR: Get the butter cake for dessert.
Came to Mastro's on a Friday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. Despite the entire Guatemalan national football team showing up as a walk-in, our large party of 11 was still seated and served promptly. Everyone in the restaurant was welcoming and you could tell that they were passionate about making sure you were there to have a great dining experience. Our server Nick was a true professional, catering to such a large party of 11 people and making sure everyone was pleased with everything during service. There are a lot of delicious cocktails on their menu and one thing that stands out about Mastro's is they leave the cocktail shaker with you when you are served your drink so you effectively get two cocktails for the price of one! Definition of bang for buck $$$. If you dable in alcoholic beverages this is a great place to be. They have a huge selection of alcohol on display and for tasting and it really sets an exquisite ambiance to the whole experience. Food was amazing. Oysters and seafood were so fresh, and the pork belly literally melts in your mouth. The butter cake is literally to die for, if you can't decide what to get for dessert just get the butter cake. Your life will literally change for the better.

I have been here three times and have had a great experience every time. The service is always top notch and the food is always amazing. All staff is very attentive and ensure that everyone has a great experience. Will be returning!
Last night we had dinner at Mastro in Valley Fair.
The food, drink, service, and music were great! But the atmosphere was not appropriated, 4 times of falling plates by server, the hosts were playing and noisy to ruin the music.
I am not one to usually take the time to write a review but
I am not one to usually take the time to write a review but truly felt that it was necessary in this case with the amount of disappointment we experienced & money spent. I booked a birthday reservation for my husband & I last Saturday May 18, We wanted to go somewhere special for his bday and found Mastro's on open table site the food looked delicious pricey but figured it would be worth it for the & experience & money we were about to pay. We were greeted and seated everything was beautiful until the entree's arrived at the table. My husband ordered the $80.00 Bone in Ribeye and I ordered the $61.00 8oz filet medium temp. The filet was raw inside so we asked for it to be cooked longer . Not only was the meat raw but both my husband and I couldn't believe that there was no flavor to this 80.00 ribeye & 60.00 filet no salt no flavor it was bland .. I had the courage to look at the waiter and ask for steak sauce which helped some but definitely wasn't expecting to use A1 sauce on a 61.00 filet. We also order Brussels sprouts and they were also raw and hard they had zero flavor and no taste. We were beyond disappointed to say the least . So much money and such anticipation to going to a beautiful place to have a special dinner to be so let down. We took all of our food home in To-go boxes and my husband added spices salt/ pepper and we recooked everything including the Brussels sprouts. We spent 400.00 on a dinner that was awful .. and had to take it home to re-cook to be enjoyed .. Will never ever go back . Only good thing about Mastros was the French onion soup I'll give them that.
Not a great experience food was a 5/10 to be honest the 15$
Not a great experience food was a 5/10 to be honest the 15$ ribeye at chilis is better then the dry aged bone in rib-eye
I had high expectations for Mastro's Steakhouse, but my
I had high expectations for Mastro's Steakhouse, but my recent visit was extremely disappointing. First off, the service was shockingly slow. We waited almost 30 minutes just to place our orders, and another 20 minutes to get them. When the food finally arrived, it was lukewarm at best. The steak, which is supposed to be their specialty, was overcooked and lacked flavor. For the exorbitant prices they charge, I expected a top-notch meal, but this was far from it. The sides were also underwhelming. To top it off, the restaurant was incredibly noisy, making it hard to have a conversation. Overall, Mastro's did not live up to the hype or the price tag. I won't be returning and certainly can't recommend it to others.
I have been in Mastro many times, but this is the first
I have been in Mastro many times, but this is the first time where the service and the food came below one star. I thought the manager would fix the issue however he also had very bad attitude. Not even sure why I left the 20% gratuity for this unprofessional waitress. They are also not dog friendly.
Why do they serve water from leaky pitchers? Is that why
Why do they serve water from leaky pitchers? Is that why they have napkins on them? As the guy poured water, it leaked from the bottom on the opposite end & got on my toddler's shirt (maybe 3 fingertips worth) but also his highchair. He apologized but never brought extra napkins when he saw us clean up his mess. I didn't think it was that much water at first & we wiped only the side of his seat where we saw water & his shirt dried so we proceeded with dinner.... However!!! Toward the end of dinner when I went to change his diaper, I realized his entire pant bottom was wet! They also don't have changing tables. I made a makeshift changing table placing 2 of their chairs facing each other to change him. I was shocked at all the water his diaper absorbed from the spill! It was heavier than a morning diaper! & we changed him right before dinner. I felt so horrible that my son sat through the whole dinner in such a large wet diaper from the spill. He cried when I tried to put his wet pants back on him. I was tempted to walk out with just his diaper on since he wouldn't let me put it back on to ask if they could get him some new pants in the mall next to them but I finally got my toddler to wear his wet pants from 2 hours prior =( Honestly, I'd never dine here again. Not just because of the spill or lack of changing tables but it wasn't that great. We did get seated pretty quickly for our reservation & the guy that greeted us upstairs was extremely welcoming and nice. Our server (not the guy that spilled) was attentive and we got our orders quickly... at first... then, it got so crowded and I was shocked how full the place was which explained our slow service toward the end. The water we asked for came so late so my thirsty toddler and myself finished our waters, dad's water & started drinking grandma's water since it didn't come. The seafood platter was pretty good. Our server did a good job letting us know prices as we ordered & built our tower but didn't mention that 1 extra shrimp would be $10 when the original 5 piece order was like... $30? I don't remember but yeah the math wasn't mathing haha. The bread service... was not soft! Only the pretzel bread & id expect the crunchy crouton looking one to be hard but the other breads didn't taste fresh.. almost like it was sitting for a while. Not worth $5. I'd say skip it! The mushrooms were good. Lobster mac & cheese had a nice cheesy pull and the cheerful welcoming guy served us on our plate so that was nice as he went to each of our plates. He also asked if we wanted mushrooms on top or side of our steaks as he served us. I was not a fan of the dry aged (ribeye?). It did not have any flavor!! It needed salt or something. I only ate 2 bites. My husband ate his with horseradish. We did take leftovers home so maybe it'll be better tomorrow with seasoning. The fish was ok. Drinks pretty good also. Overall, food was ok but nothing amazing & I'd say not worth it. Seafood platter was good though & easy to eat. Steaks not good. Service was mixed. A really great guy, a pretty good (but busy) server, and water pourers who don't pour water frequently enough but also unfortunately spill on people. Oh & my menu had food on it which was a bit off putting to order from & I didn't expect from this restaurant. It gets crowded too so maybe that's why service & food quality declines as it gets busy? Maybe try it at a less busy hour & it might be a better experience... the nice welcoming guy did help with our to go bag and held the elevator for us & was very great. He wasn't our server though... who is he? lol. I guess he's the guy that brings up a star from my intended 1 star to 2. I was just really upset for my kid that I decided to write my very first Yelp review. Everyone move out of the way as they pour water as a warning. Oh, & I guess my toddler & I were (still) so thirsty that when we got home before bed we finished an entire Stanley cups worth of water (with ice) between the 2 of us & only stopped because there was no more. I wonder if they'll let you keep a pitcher so you can pour it yourself without spilling & to have it on the table so you don't have to wait so long for water. For an almost $900 bill after tax / tip & my experience for the price point I will probably never be back. But thank you to that 1 welcoming nice guy that took extra effort to make grandma's birthday special by consistently throughout the dinner remembering it's her birthday :)
Recommended, once always
This restaurant is good by American standards. We ordered steak and half a chicken. The steak was fabulous but the chicken was unfortunately only good plus. The atmosphere was good, the service was very good and helpful, competent. Price/performance ratio is of course high but it's OK.
My experience at Mastro's began before I even stepped foot
My experience at Mastro's began before I even stepped foot into the restaurant. The dress code concerned me as I'm currently pregnant, and comfort is the top priority for my wardrobe right now. I decided to call to inquire about what would be acceptable to wear because the thought of being turned away was intimidating. Calling into restaurants is usually a mixed bag, but I was fortunate to have my call answered by Alana (sorry if I spelled your name wrong)! Alana listened to my concerns, assured me that my attire would be more than acceptable and welcomed me to the restaurant. My conversation with Alana was so exceptional that I had to let her boss know. I spoke with Mike who was also exceptional and left me looking forward to my visit. When I arrived for my reservation, the ambiance inside the restaurant was perfect. They had live music playing downstairs in the bar/lounge area and it resonated upstairs to the dining room at just the right volume. I can't stand when live music forces you to have to nearly yell just to have a conversation, and that wasn't an issue at all. As soon as we were seated, my husband and I were greeted by Mike, whom I had previously spoken with! Mike's hospitality was exceptional and it served as a great start to our visit. The food was delicious and the portions, including my husband's drink, were very generous. I've found this isn't always the case at some of the better restaurants I've been to and it was a surprise. My Chilean Sea Bass was cooked to perfection and the appetizer Mike recommended, the Neuske Bacon.. let me just say, if you like bacon and/or pork belly, just get it!! Every facet of my visit, down to the bread service, exceeded my expectations! I'll certainly be returning and recommending Mastro's to my friends and family.

Ambience was great! And the piano singer was one of the best ive ever heard! BUTTTTTTTT the service was awful and the food was sub par. I was so sad cuz Mastros is so good! But the lobster mac was terrible... no seasoning on the steak and our waitress Britney couldn't crack a smile or be nice for the life of her. I dont know if I would try again. Ill stick to flemmings.

Amazing service from when you step up to the front door, being seated and to when the delicious large size portions arrive. I told my wife how amazing the ambiance was as well. The menu starts you mouth watering try try each dish, so the family-style plate servings are a plus. I ordered a 22oz ribeye "med-rare" with sautéed spinach and mushrooms, melted in our mouths with sparks of flavor. Wife had the lobster bisque.
I'm saddened that I even have to write this review.
2/10 on the food. Lobster Mac had zero flavor, steak wasn't seasoned. The mushrooms were the best part. Our waitress had a terrible attitude. Not even a smile... The live music was the best part ! But totally not worth the $$ spent.

Okay food, great service, and bomb drinks! Our server was very nice and hospitality was not to complain for.
If you have a kid they will sit you in the back by the prep
If you have a kid they will sit you in the back by the prep station, even when the restaurant is empty. "No hats allowed in the dining area." Drinks are gross, worst Moscow mule I've ever had, it was served in a glass and it was bright yellow. For a steakhouse, the steak was just ok, overcooked a medium to well. Our server was great.

We came here for my husband's birthday and it was amazing! They printed menus for us that had a happy birthday message at the top with his name. Our server Sid was excellent! He was friendly and had some great recommendations for dinner. The food was delicious! Overall our experience was wonderful from getting seated to ordering , and enjoying time together without being rushed.

I have tried several high end steak house of the area ( alexander, LB steak, Morton ...) and I will have to say Mastro is the best steakhouse I have ever went. Compare to other steakhouse Mastro is the grandest of all of them. Service is comparable but I could see things that they did such as they would print the name of my girlfriend with the phrase happy birthday, that is just something I have never seem. When the staff know I was taking picture of the food, they took out flash light pointing to the dish for us for better lighting, or there was a couple dishes they had dry ices with the steam and that just made the night more magical. Also live music with a singer band in person, that just cant beat. Food wise, I also think it is more memorable. The steak, lobster soup, bread, .... everything was the best it could be.

Tiffany our waitress was the best!!! She was very accommodating and personable. Food was excellent and will be returning and asking for Tiffany she made my birthday a memorable one.
A Memorable Evening and Exceptional Service at Mastro's
My experience at Mastro's Costa Mesa was absolutely delightful, all thanks to Shashona R. I had reserved a private dining room, and she ensured that every detail was taken care of before our arrival. Shashona's professionalism and prompt responsiveness to my inquiries truly stood out. As expected, the food at Mastro's was exceptional, as always, and the evening was made even more enjoyable by the friendly staff. Mastro's is undeniably a fantastic choice for hosting a special event, and their consistently incredible food makes it a foolproof option.
Father & Son
My son and I love this spot! We go there a couple of times each year during my summer vacation. We always sit at the bar and get a very intimate service from the bartenders. The steaks are excellent. My son had pork chop that was delicious! Looking forward to my return!

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
