Amazing food, vibe, service.
Beautiful ambiance, fresh sea food. A true artistic masterpiece for every dish
Be the first to ReplyWasn't as good as Nobu- but same price.
They also didn't have liquor. Pretty disappointed.

If you can afford to eat here, you need to come enjoy the excellent sushi and cooked dishes here. An unassuming restaurant considering it's Beverly Hills, with fast (though brusque) service and a very diverse menu. The elevated Japanese food you would get at Nobu (same owner) but in a much less pretentious space. Every bite was super high quality from the perfectly crisped crispy rice and spicy tuna (best version of this dish I've ever had), the baked crab hand roll (ugly presentation but very tasty), nicely grilled A5 wagyu (get it with NO SAUCE, the miso did not work and I am so glad I asked for it on the side even if the server was skeptical, lol), yummy black miso cod, buttery uni donburi ($$$$$), and rock shrimp tempura that was a big hit. I would recommend skipping the tempura as it is no better than your neighborhood Japanese spot and there are more fun things to try on the menu. The oysters are also a skip.

STAY AWAY! I called a last minute reservation here for a Saturday night at 8 pm. The manager, Ron, picked up and said he has us booked with a table. We arrived at the restaurant at 8 pm and were bombarded with customers and terrible service. The host at the front informed us that no reservation was made, and they informed us of a 1.5 hour wait to be seated. My Saturday night was ruined due to the poor service and information provided by Ron.
Be the first to ReplyNobu dishes and quality with a more lowkey ambiance.
Photos are from takeout but have enjoyed going in-person as well a couple times and it never disappoints ! I enjoy sitting at the sushi bar. It's casual. The food is excellent and consistent, always fresh. Takeout order: 2 squid pasta, 1 yellowtail scallion roll, 1 tuna asparagus roll, and 1 daily special roll :-)

What an incredible place. EXTREMELY PRICY but the food is very flavorful. My wife who I love more than anyone except my 2 sons G-D bless them, loves this place but oddly not for the sushi. My wife doesn't even like sushi I think the price for food is outrageously expensive but these are the things that are incredible. Artichoke salad incredible Spinach salad(same as artichoke but just with spinach) Spicy tuna crispy rice is great but make sure they put the tuna on the rice. Spicy miso soup is good. It's salt water with tofu and seaweed. The eggplant miso is very under rated. We get the corn tempura and my wife being picky, was very skeptical about this one but it was AMAZING. so we get 2 of these so we don't have to share. The beef tepanyaki on a mushroom medley is amazing as well. If your server is a tall Asian woman, you are lucky. She's great but the only problem with this place is sometimes they might rush you to get out so they can have a faster turn over. I think that the service is quicker because people like being served quicker so I'm not opposed to quicker service. I actually prefer it because I can eat and get out asap The restaurant inside is actually a very nice authentic feel to a sushi restaurant. It's a little cramped in there which makes it all the more fun. I truly enjoyed this place and will continue to go back even though it cost one of my paychecks of 2 weeks of work. Thank you
Be the first to ReplyStepping into Matsuhisa, the hype and ambiance whispered
Stepping into Matsuhisa, the hype and ambiance whispered promises of an extraordinary sushi experience. Unfortunately, those promises fell short of reality. While the staff was friendly and attentive, the food itself proved underwhelming. The sushi lacked the delicate precision and freshness I expect at this price point. Some pieces were overly chewy, others oddly bland. Even the signature dishes didn't quite live up to their reputation, feeling more ordinary than innovative. The overall experience felt somewhat disjointed. While elements were individually fine, they didn't coalesce into a harmonious dining experience. The high price tag only amplified the disappointment. Matsuhisa Beverly Hills holds an undeniable reputation, but in my case, it failed to deliver on its culinary promises. Perhaps it was an off night, but ultimately, the experience fell short of the expectations set by both price and prestige.

Was expecting a lot for the prices here but the corn kakiage left much to be desired and the baked crab handrolls were not as good as Katsuya's.
Be the first to Reply30 min late for our reservation.
Guy at front desk was unabashedly unapologetic. Food was average. Toro sushi which was expensive fell apart before it was touched. See picture. Aisles were way too narrow and people kept bumping into our table. Way too overpriced for average sushi. Our bill was $250+ without any alcohol. We skipped dessert because we couldn't stand the place for another minute.

Why was this place so packed for a Thursday night ? Maybe because this is the OG spot or Nobu and what created the Nobu brand and culinary powerhouse. This is the first original Nobu restaurant and the taste and flavors of the food prove it right. I always love sitting at the sushi bar when going out for sushi but they have both an inside and outdoors seating. I started off with the red snapper and the chef was quick to remind me "no sauce" cause it would just kill the delicious butter taste of salt and snapper mixed into one melting in your mouth. I followed that up with an uni shooter and half shell of oysters. Delicious. I continued with some rice crispy tuna twist, where they serve the rice on a stick and give you the side of tuna to put on top yourself. I finished that off with a seared tuna sushi and a crab hand roll. I washed all of this down with the matsuhisa martini which I was not a fan of, but hey, when in Rome. Gotta try the new stuff when you can. All of it was delicious! This place clearly has a lot of regulars, obviously based on how busy they were and the chefs familiarity with their guests. It's a must try and you can't go wrong with any of the food they have on their extensive (and I mean extensive) diverse menu.

I would provide negative review If there is a negative review options, this place is overpriced and the staff including Chef and waiter who was serving us , they were not responsible for maybe small table because they think they won't get much tips from small table, we were waiting for only 4 pieces of sushi and wagyu beef for like half hours and without any sincere apologies, beware of this place, this is the worst Japanese restaurant I have been experience in LA!!!!!!!

I got the $250 omakase and it was really good! I asked to sit at the sushi counter as I like to see all the action. From start to finish it was all amazing. Service was great and the ambiance was clean and it was a busy Friday night. We were able to celebrate my husbands birthday here and it was great! Although for the price and how good it was I still found myself a bit hungry still after.
Be the first to ReplyWe were told Matsuhisa was the best Japanese restaurant in
We were told Matsuhisa was the best Japanese restaurant in Beverly Hills, but we were very disappointed at it. About the food: The color or design of the dishes were quite nice but I don't think the taste deserve that much, because the food gave me stomachache and bellyache right away (it makes me wonder about the quality of the sashimi. I tried Nobu and Zuma and other quite a lot of different Japanese restaurants, to be honest, it's the first time that I ever had bellyache right after the dinner.) The white fish in the Chirashi was quite smelly with the fish stinky smell. The Sea bass is soso but overly priced not worthy the half of the price. The service: We called to make a reservation for 7:30pm and was told to just walk in. When we got there, we had to wait in the line even though it's not long line. The main course for me was served first, and when I almost finish mine, there came my husband's main dish. Maybe the restaurant was too busy that I ran out of my tea for a super long time to get a refill. But the waitress was quite nice, and she was trying her best to serve us even help us to get a change to pay for the Valet parking. About the price: We ordered a Sashimi rice bowl and a sea bass, the bill is about $250. Overly priced for the quality of the food. I don't think we will go back here again!!! Or maybe we just happen to order the wrong food( not so fresh nor well treated) on a wrong night in a wrong place. Anything could happen since we are in Beverly Hills.
Be the first to ReplyMatsuhisa is a sushi restaurant that truly sets itself
Matsuhisa is a sushi restaurant that truly sets itself apart from the competition. The food at Matsuhisa is a work of art. Each dish is carefully crafted and bursting with flavor, making it difficult to choose just one favorite. The caviar tacos are a must-try, with a delicate balance of flavors and textures. The tuna tataki is another standout dish, with perfectly seared tuna and a tangy ponzu sauce. The toro yuzumiso and crispy rice spicy tuna are both delicious and beautifully presented. The rock shrimp tempura is crispy and flavorful, and the yellowtail jalapeรฑo is a perfect combination of spice and freshness. The ankimo with caviar and black cod with miso are both signature dishes that live up to their reputation. The king crab with amazu is a surprising and refreshing dish that combines sweet and sour flavors perfectly. The Chilean seabass with truffle is also a must-try, with a delicate and buttery texture that melts in your mouth. The Japanese Wagyu crispy beef is a dish that is not to be missed. The beef is perfectly cooked and paired with a crispy crust, making for a mouthwatering experience. The sushi selection is also top-notch, with the salmon roe sushi, uni sushi, and toro sushi being particularly exceptional. The bento box cake is a delicious and indulgent dessert that offers a taste of everything sweet. The kamameshi is a satisfying and comforting rice dessert dish with ice cream in a flaming pot that is perfect for sharing. Finally, the Fiji shaved ice is a refreshing and light dessert that ends the meal on a high note.Overall, Matsuhisa is an exceptional sushi restaurant that offers a dining experience like no other. The food is expertly crafted and delicious, with a range of dishes that cater to all tastes. The service is exceptional, and the atmosphere is intimate and elegant. I highly recommend Matsuhisa to anyone looking for an unforgettable sushi experience.

Be the first to ReplyI became violently ill from food poisoning from eating here
I became violently ill from food poisoning from eating here earlier this week. Also my dinner partner fell ill as well. The Management non-response is what has prompted me to write this review. After 3 calls, I finally connected with Ron, the General Manager, who accused me of lying. Please also note: there is no Management on staff at lunch - so my alerting the restaurant to the possibility of a problem in the kitchen was not heard until the dinner meeting apparently. No concern or corrective measures could / would be made for the lunch service. The outside tented seating, where we were seated, was the setting of a 2 star at best- not nice in many ways. But we were there for the food so we stayed. We should have left. I would have been saved from 4 hours of vomiting up a $600 meal for 2 and then being called a liar. I've eaten at Matsuhisa several times over the years - I won't be back and that is because of Ron.

Come here with my sister all the time and the food is always superb. We love the staff, they're so welcoming and kind all the time. Super quick service as well. I love sitting inside but if it's too busy, outside patio is nice as well. Very consistent business and I always enjoy.

We had the Omakase (sushi only)- the fresh sushi melts in your mouth. We also had the spicy tuna and crispy rice x 2 orders because it was so good!We also had the soba noodles with dipping sauce/broth which was also quite tasty. The wagyu beef dumplings were so delicious we had to place a second order.Servers were attentive in refilling our waters/drinks. This is a casual dining restaurant. Finding parking can be challenging on the street but valet parking is available.

Matsuhisa is a great restaurant in Los Angeles that serves delicious Japanese food that has been carefully prepared. There are a lot of creative and tasty dishes on the menu, which makes it a must-visit place for foodies and people who want a unique and memorable dining experience. One of the best dishes at Matsuhisa is the omakase, a tasting menu chosen by the chef that includes sushi, sashimi, and other creative and tasty dishes. The black cod with miso is also very good. The fish is tender and full of flavor, and it has been marinated in a tasty miso glaze.Another must-try dish is the Wagyu beef tataki, which is thinly sliced beef that has been perfectly seared and is served with a delicious ponzu sauce. The yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno is also very good. The fish is thinly sliced and very tender, and it comes with a spicy, flavorful sauce. At Matsuhisa, the atmosphere is classy and elegant, and the interior looks and feels like a real fine-dining restaurant. The service is friendly and professional, and the servers are happy to make suggestions and make sure your meal is a great one.

Freshest sushi's I've ever had , incredibly impressed will be back every time I travel to Los Angeles no doubt if you didn't know this was the first restaurant by the owner of Nobu so you can expect most of the same menu items !

All time, absolute favorite restaurant where we can rely on the freshest and tastiest sushi. Nothing beats it! Not pretentious, just great food. And we spend a fortune but it's worth every penny.

Wow.... Super disgraceful. My experience here last night will change my mind about ever coming back. The aspen location was my first experience with Matsuhisa, and it was a 5/5... but the Beverly Hills location was a solid 1/5It's like, you're at an all inclusive resort. You get super excited about the food / presentation. But then you taste it, and the next thing you know you're sh**ing out both holes.

6/26/2021Every single time my parents are in town, I make a dinner reservation and bring them. I have been here multiples times since (June 26, 2021). It is like a mini Nobu in a way, and I personally would prefer to go here. For parking, it's really hard to get street parking so I always valet park. I really like the overall energy of the restaurant as the service was amazing. The servers were always asking how the meal was going. My family and I got a mixture of appetizers, rolls and signature dishes. These are our go-tos:Rock Shrimp Tempura with Creamy Spicy Sauce (Spicy Mayo kind of sauce) - the shrimp was encased in a nice, crunchy breading around it, did not feel too greasyYellowtail Jalapeรฑo - wow, the yellowtail really melts in your mouth with every bite, the jalapeno adds a good kick of spice, eat each piece of fish with the cilantro as it adds another layer of freshnessSashimi Salad - a good mixture of veggies with the fresh tuna sashimi, the vinaigrette adds a good amount acidity to the savoriness of the mealBlack Cod with Miso - The Cod absolutely melts in your mouth! The sauce that comes with the Cod compliments the fish well as it is a quite sweet.Soft Shell Crab, Toro w/ Scallion, and Shrimp Tempura RollsAside from these, we like to mix it up with other stuff on the menu!

Food was pretty good, and I rarely give lower ratings based on service but unfortunately my time here was so unpleasant since I first called to make the res. Won't drag this out with a full rant, but I haven't been as disrespected at a restaurant in LA as I was here.
