Maxwells Trading Chicago Reviews
Wow, what a gem of a place.
They were closed for a private event but had the safe and a small bakery pop up open. The staff was so nice and kind. And the cafe menu had plenty of options for everyone. I would love to come back when their greenhouse and inside seating area is open!
Industrial vibes farrr out in West Loop.
Slow service but very good food. French onion dip: the bread was sooooo good. Something was a bit off on the dip imo but the bread slapped. Pear tortellini: YESSSS pasta was perfect and the sauce was insane. Japanese sweet potato: meh, didn't love the green curry sauce Turbot: yummm super light and fresh. Tasty sauce. Basque butter cake: felt like a warm crunchy sugar cookie in cake form. Sooo good. Tiramisu: meh, I've had better.
Every dish is unique, small plates, easy to share.
Restaurant has great energy and ambiance is great. I love that the menu doesn't change to keep it consistent but couple of the dishes change based on the season and keep it exciting. The Japanese sweet potato is my favorite and I love that the Thai curry sauce change (green or red) based on the season. The Griddle Bread/Dunks selections are always fun. The bread that comes with it is so delicious (it's really the star). You really can order the whole menu start to finish won't get tired of it.

Wow! Everything here was amazing! I came with a group of 8 people for a birthday dinner and it seemed like the perfect venue. The menu was family style with a large lazy Susan on the table to easily share dishes. We tried a variety of items but standout dishes were: -Prosciutto & Gnocco Fritto (My favorite) -Chicory Cesar -Sweet potato (the caramelized / candied exterior was divine) -Japanese Eggplant -Red Bean Brownie Sundae (this was amazing-very chocolatey) -Half Chicken a la Brasa (it reminded me of Cajun food- very intense herbs and spices on it) -NA Bitter cocktail (tasted like an aperol spritz- would not have known it was NA had I not ordered it) The restaurant is very smartly decorated, easy to have a conversation in despite being fully booked, and was in an area with lots of street parking. The staff were friendly, provided good directions on the menu, and seemed attentive in clearing finished plates and replacing dishes / silverware between courses. All in all this falls into my Top Recommendations for Chicago dining.
The cocktails and food were great.
The portions were barely visible and the prices sky high.
Wonderful evening at Maxwells - beautiful space, great vibe
Wonderful evening at Maxwells - beautiful space, great vibe and excellent service. Dined with a large group so we were able to try a lot! cucumbers - nice dish great flavour but I didn't love the pairing with the silken tofu, french onion and whipped ricotta dips - WOW! Only criticism would be you get more of a 'swipe' of each dip, a bigger/deeper portion to dig into would be appreciated, the bread is unbelievable, little round donut-like bready pockets, I've never had bread like it...the Caesar was great. Moving on to the sweet potato - unbelievable again - creamy curry sauce with a perfectly cooked sweet potato just sitting packed full of flavour, the zucchini stuffed pappardelle - so much flavour beautifully cooked and unique flavour blend, to finish - the chicken and the steak as mains, both epic. Wouldn't skip a thing, we also tried the panzanella which is more like a soaked piece of bread with plums - very good but would recommend serving this as an app as it doesn't really say 'main course' - beautiful dish though, only regret is not getting dessert
Busy vibrant place.
Food is meant to be shared and we ordered one or two dishes from each category. For drinks, recommend the Vesper. A mix of gin, vodka and lemon. Server fave us some great food recommendations. Give this place a try as you won't regret it.
Had a great meal at Maxwells.
Huge restaurant in the west loop, diverse menu, lots of good stuff. Service was friendly, drinks were good. Highlights of the night - suzuki tartare (great flavors, but seriously small portion), the chicory caesar (perfectly dressed, and a huge portion!), the zucchini stuffed pappardelle was insanely good. The clay pot mushroom rice was decent but very substantial, and the turbot was cooked well with a delicious beurre blanc sauce. Definitely want to return to try more of the menu

Loved this place! My son took me here for dinner when I visited him and gf. Loved the interior design of the place. Now onto the food...the French onion dip was excellent with the hot bread (the Best!!!)...the chicory Caesar salad was great w/ fennel...Suzuki tartar was different from other tartar, great with peanuts...Soup dumplings tortellini with maitake mushrooms were good too. We shared the pork katsu and redfish. They're both delicious. The waitress was friendly and professional. She forgot one appetizer and we figured it might just took longer to prepare. She apologized, brought it to the table quickly, and took it off the bill; that was unexpected. I can see why this is one of my son's favorite restaurants!

from the moment you walk into Maxwell's, whether it's a Wednesday or Saturday night, you're greeted with every seat filled in the restaurant and likely a line out the door of people patiently hoping to get a seat-- and that's for a good reason! everything we ordered was delivered with care and absolutely delicious. Alisha was our server for the evening and was so kind, attentive, and an overall great time- loved her!
