Mermaid Oyster Bar New York Reviews from The Last Year
Came here for dinner on a weeknight with two other people
Came here for dinner on a weeknight with two other people and got tapas with some oysters. Lovely ambiance in the restaurant and so nicely decorated, some of the tables are a little cramped which can take away from the experience but overall minimal complaints! Food wise we got the old bay fries, shrimp skewer, smoked salmon toast, fish tacos, mac and cheese, tuna crudo, and glidden point oysters. Highlights would be old bay fries, smoked salmon toast, and mac and cheese as they were all so flavorful! Fish tacos looked like they would have had more flavor but I was slightly disappointed with them Service was impeccable and everything came out in good time, bonus for the chocolate pudding at the end which I was not expecting! Overall, I'd definitely come back next time and try more oysters and the rest of the tapas!

Came by on a Monday (happy hour all evening) after work with a friend. Their happy hour drinks and oyster/ clam ($1.50 ea) were great, but their HH food options were bleh. Ordered tacos (tiny), clam chowder (shot cup size, talk about tiny) for $3 each - better off ordered regular size for $10. Would recommend for HH drinks and oyster/ clams with regular dishes. Ended spending more because HH food was not filling.
Visited on friday afternoon at 5pm ish.
The place is not too big and seats get filled up pretty fast for happy hour. So try to go a little bit early. They open at 4:30. There are both indoor and outdoor seating. There are plenty of parking spaces around this restaurant but be ready to circle around for a while... (depending on the day and time) The staffs were all very helpful from the beginning to the end. Helped us with our selections. We ordered happy hour calamari, spinach and artichoke dips, oysters and little neck clamps. Calamari was fried just right. Spinach and artichoke were very creamy. Oyster and little neck clamps were fresh. Sometimes, happy hour places may give not so fresh oysters, but this place was great. Fresh, no fishy smell Def recommended

I feel like this is such an unpopular opinion, but my therapist says I need to be more vulnerable so I really want y'all to see me: I normally don't like making reservations because it's such a commitment. I have to be at this exact place at this exact time on this exact date? What if I don't want oysters in 10 days? What if future me wants tapas? What if he wants Thai food? What if someone commissions him to write a novel next week and he needs to go to Japan for inspiration? This issue is especially highlighted in New York, as you have to make a res 10 days in advance for seemingly everything... All this to say, walking into Mermaid Oyster Bar with the res I made 9 days in advance to make their happy hour on a Friday had me feeling like a BOSS. Getting walked to our 4 top for 2 of us as the hostess removed the "reserved" plaque had me feeling like Frank Lucas. All these people fighting tooth and nail for a tiny stool at the bar to get in on the happy hour had me thinking "why didn't you dorks just make a res........" I was sitting there ordering 18 oysters ($1.50 each), 4 mini tacos ($3 each), and $10 cocktails feeling like El Chapo if he was chilling in a beautiful seaside village in New England.... well El Chapo is probably not hitting happy hours to save money nor is he in New England but y'all get me. Mermaid Oyster Bar was fantastic, I been telling everyone about it since. I haven't seen any place like it in the city. I felt like I was in a cute little fishing village hehehehe. This experience has me beginning to understand the appeal of far out reservations more and more, but still feel how I feel. I like to stay flowy. Like water. THANK YOU MERMAID OYSTER BAR ILL SEE Y'ALL SOON! PROBABLY FOR A BAR SEAT THOUGH IM NGL! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews
Loved this place.
Service excellent. Great drinks. Amazing Oysters! Bartenders were fun!!

Had a fun dinner here! The small plates are definitely the way to go. It does get quite loud on a Friday night, but it's high energy and the service was good. Fun cocktails too. The food is good but we weren't blown away. The menu is also a bit of a strange mix of small plates with just a few large plates, so not the easiest to navigate ordering for a group.
Food is poor to fair, over- and nonsensically spiced.
Even key lime pie is poor. Even risotto is poor. However, they know how to get you out in a hurry. I mentioned that we were pressed for time to get to theatre, and they served us 10 minutes after ordering, and desert and bill arrived five minutes after ordering.
Poor food, marvelous service.

Fantastic
Our first night ever in NYC! We went to Mermaid oyster bar. We absolutely Loved it! Great drinks, food ,service and atmosphere! Happy hour was so much fun! Our waiter was excellent and took great care of us!
I came here for a double date on a Friday.
The restaurant is in the NYU area, so excellent location. It's very spacious and the atmosphere is great. We ordered the lobster Mac & cheese and fried calamari to start. I ordered the fried oysters and Old Bay fries for my meal, and 2 people got the lobster fra diavola for their main. The oysters were meh and the fries barely had any seasoning on them. Both of the people who got the fra diavola thought it was just ok and that it had way too much pasta in it. The lobster Mac & cheese was probably the highlight of the entire meal for me. It had a smoky flavor to it, which was nice, but like the rest of the meal, was otherwise not noteworthy. I also ordered a mezcal negroni and it was fine. Overall, I think this place is just OK, but the service is fantastic and the atmosphere is great. I'm not dying to come back.
This is my go to spot when I'm in the mood for oysters.
We just walked in and were seated right away. Oysters are only $1.50. I recommend this to anyone that is trying to get oysters and drinks at a reasonable price, they also have multiple locations which is convenient.

Randomly came across this place while on vacation looking for a happy hour...this place did not disappoint! The Mac and cheese and the oysters were amazing!
I’d pass
No reservation on a crowded Friday night after theater. Waited about 30 mins. Just made the end of happy hour Food was so so. Mini tacos were oily and salty. Didn’t care for my cod entree. Calamari was very good. Service was excellent.
Great food, location and service.
Wife and I enjoyed a great dinner at the 43rd street location in a rainy Sunday night in December for her Birthday. Excellent service, friendly but not overly so. Food was wonderful, challenge is what to pick. Great west coast oysters, salmon taretare….lobster, filet, scallops and I had to try fried chicken ( embarrassed wife but created my own fish and fowl with chicken and scallops at same time). Very enjoyable experience
Positive surprise
Good service, very nice and fast Great oyster My fish & fries were a little dry, but OK. We would definitely go again. We were early, but got a good table straight away..,
A wonderful stop in the village for seafood
Great bright atmosphere. Fun vibe with sone coastal feel. Upscale casual for cocktails and small bites. Simple but interesting menu. All employees go the extra mile to make sure your experience is good.
Lovely
Beautiful atmosphere inside, our waiter was very knowledgeable, polite and extremely helpful which made the experience Salmon tartare and the red wine were just what was needed after a busy tiring day sight seeing
If you love New England style seafood this is one not to miss! InnNYC.
Superb selection of seafood and too notch service. Just off the very busy western dude if Times Square it’s a cool, atmospheric piece of NewEngland in the centre of NYC. I had the chowder and then the amazing linguine and clams and it was superb. Drinks list is amazing with so many great cocktails.,service is outstanding.
Great Oyster Bar
Went to the Mermaid Oyster Bar with my family and had a great time. The Happy Hour offering has very good options. The Happy Hour oysters are smaller than the main menu options but still tasty. We ordered several appetizers from the Happy Hour menu and the main menu, and pretty much everything was great. Only the Lobster Fritters were not as tasty as expected. But the rest was awesome and the wine list is quite affordable. Will definitely go back.
