we had a table of 7' tonight celebrating a friends birthday.
.. the food was great but the service was absent and painful. if our waitress came back we probably would have ordered at least one more round of drinks.

Our server gave us great food and drink recommendations and at exactly 5 pm, when they open, the place filled up. Will return on my next trip into town!
Be the first to ReplyChicago's Best of the Best for Mexican! Unmatched quality
Chicago's Best of the Best for Mexican! Unmatched quality from the appetizers-to the drinks-to the cuisines! Non-gmo, locally sourced foods. Made from scratch. Bring your wallet, you honestly get what you pay for. Please run this restaurant search through YouTube; you're going to witness the outcomes of many others who are devoted to this establishment. The restaurant has awards along with a loyal following. A comfortable atmosphere that's intimate yet filled with cheers and laughter. Please do not pay attention to the 3.9 score on Yelp [for real]. Mi Tocaya is a fabulous dining adventure that has amazing quality without the unrushed dining experience that is clean, and truly Authentic! As for the meal, I started the evening with a sangria which was barrel aged for 2years, along with a classic margarita blended with a smooth mezcal & tequila. As for the appetizers, I kept it basic with the house made roasted mole salsa & guacamole. It was honestly fresh and flavorful balanced with right amount of garlic. For the staple of the meal, we had two Wagyu steak burritos. Very juicy steak that was marinated with their in-house mole then grilled to perfection. The steak was thinly sliced with each burrito bite enveloped in authentic Mexican flavor. It's well worth the experience to visit Mi Tocaya.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on a Wednesday night and had to make this
Came here on a Wednesday night and had to make this reservation over two weeks in advance because this place doesn't have many reservations and upon arriving, I realized just how small it is It appears that during summer or better weather they probably set up tables on their patio out front however, keep in mind they are literally on the corner of California and Logan so if you like the traffic and the pollution and all the foot traffic, this is the place to sit We were here during February and sat inside because it is quite cold outside I got very lucky because we had a 5:30 PM reservation with the parking directly on the street and did not have to pay and was able to find a space that was not permit only I must say the food here is such a fun and unique twist and perspective on Mexican food. The menu is very deep with details and ingredients. This is not your average run of the mill Mexican food and I absolutely enjoyed the experience. Our server was very very kind and super friendly. She was very helpful as well with recommendations, and what her thoughts were including the wine selection. And with our group, it was great that she had a sense of humor as well. I would definitely come back here again as this is a great culinary experience. This is definitely on the higher end as far as cost. It is definitely worth a visit if you've never been here considering just how well the ratings are and the diner reviews it does live up to it .
Be the first to ReplyQuesa baria was best baria ive ever had.
Service was quick and exceptional. Restaurant was charming, quant, and well decorated. Clean restrooms. My girlfriend got the chicken dish which was wonderful. Drinks were good too!

I've been here twice - once with my mom and once with a friend, and both times I adored this meal. I'm honestly a bit perplexed by the 3.8 or so rating on Yelp; I've only had Great experiences here (on food, service, and ambiance although of course food is most important). The decor is really cute and the food is delicious but also interesting. The first meal I had here really exceeded my expectations and I would go again even after two visits. Of the things I've tried, this is how we rated what we got: we liked the enchiladas potosina the most, chicharo elote style 2nd, and the braised peanut butter lengua last.
Be the first to ReplyHad to see what all the hype was about and glad I did.
While I enjoyed the food, there are definitely some things the place could fix. First, we booked a reservation and showed up on time but had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Because the place is so small, we couldn't wait at the front and instead had to wait outside. In November. Okay...?? Once inside we were seated essentially on top of two flanking parties with no room to move and could hear their entire conversations because we were essentially sharing two separate tables that were basically pushed together. Good luck getting up to go to the restroom. The drinks were great and the food was good, albeit overpriced for what is essentially elevated street food. Everyone seemed to get the $25+ steak burrito that was massive and looked like it could feed two people, but we opted for the fish and ceviche. Food was great, front house operations suck. I'd likely get food here again but there is no way I'm dining inside again.

Great service and ambiance. We love the Augustine's and the steak burrito
Be the first to ReplyMy wife and I had heard wonderful things from our friends
My wife and I had heard wonderful things from our friends so we made reservations for my wife's birthday! The place is cozy and has a real chill environment. The servers were really great about explaining the menu items. The aguachile was out of this world. Such a balanced dish with some pleasant heat. We also share the DIY quesabirria, steak burrito and garlic fish dish. The quesabirria was incredible! The steak burrito was as advertised ! We'll definitely be back. Everything was pack with flavor and so filling.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant has a lot of hype, and for good reason.
The food is really really good! We appreciated how unique and flavorful he food was. The steak burrito was excellent as was a chicken thigh dish (pictured here). We also loved the salsa that went with the chips and salsa. The food came out shortly after we ordered. One negative aspect of the experience was waiting for our table. We had a reservation yet waited 25 minutes to be seated without being offered anything from staff while we waited. There were no apologies or acknowledgement of the wait. The policies on the reservation were really strict and we were told we would be charged $25 a person if late or no showing, so it was frustrating that we made every effort to be on time only to be seated late. In addition, we were seated by the door on a bitter cold day, so every time the door opened we got a blast of freezing air. Lastly, the server unfortunately appeared to be losing her voice yet would stand across the table quietly asking questions that none of us could hear. When we asked questions about the food, she struggled. For example, "What does mahi mahi taste like?" was answered with "Uhm I'm not sure but they say its really delicious." At the end of the day, we'd go back because of the food but these aspects of the experience and service were disappointing.

Be the first to ReplySummary: This was the best Mexican restaurants I've ever
Summary: This was the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been at.I went here on a Saturday night at 8:30pm with a reservation. You need a reservation. We approached the hostess who was slightly gruff, probably due to all of the people who come without knowing they need a reservation. They said they were slightly behind and they would come and get us when the table was ready. We were maybe early, but there's zero space to wait inside. The reservation does email you saying it's only for 1.5 hours. But it was maybe 3 minutes later when the table was ready. There's left enough space between tables that you don't feel squished but is no means spacious. In the summer the patio is open. Maybe they take out a couple tables from inside. Ideally one day they could winterize the patio. We got the $12 guacamole, which wasn't a ton of chips or guacamole, enough for 1-2 people but it was amazing. The chill ash wasn't spicy but tasty. The Tepache de Piña was almost a non sweet black tea with lemon. The Coliflor en Sikil Pak was amazing. I was close to licking that plate in front of everyone. The sikil was a new flavor that I can't well describe. It was only $16.60. Get this dish!! The green part isn't guac and is very spicy. Be careful. The Pescado al Mojo de Ajo was also amazing, $25 and salmon for us. The mojo was almost a super fresh light elevated.

we've only been able to order carry out, however this has to be the best Mexican food we have ever tasted. Photos don't do this justice, but it's incredible. Everything. So special. Soooo unique and simple yet you can feel the love and care and perfect spices.

We went in for dinner during the middle of the week and had a fantastic experience here. The space isn't gigantic so you should likely make a reservation if that wasn't already thought out. Booked ours a week in advance so wasn't crazy difficult to get one. Space is very clean and smells amazing the second you walk in the door. Their food is more upscale and authentic to Mexico so if you're into that type of cuisine then you'll love Mi Tocaya. My partner had the Margarita and I had the N/A Tepache de Pina which was delicious. Split everything and started with the Aguachile (reminiscent of ceviche), the oyster taco on squid ink tortilla, and crispy taco discada. From there we went to the cauliflower (this is insane and a must try), and finished with the Chamorro (braised pork shank) with mole and parsnip. Everything here is expensive but you get what you're paying for. The ingredients are beyond fresh and you can tell that everything is made meticulously and with love. When we win the lottery this will be our every week dining experience, but until then can't wait for the next visit.
Be the first to ReplyThe food and service were good, but honestly I was
The food and service were good, but honestly I was disappointed because of the hype. The food portions are all kind of small, and some of the flavors are a bit odd. I liked the horchata--it had a roasted rice flavor that added depth and made it more interesting than a normal horchata. I also thought the steak burrito was good, especially the spicy salsa that came with it. For the price, I don't think I'd go again though.

Wanted to really love this place but it fell a little flat for me food wise. While the vibe and service was great, I was underwhelmed by the taste. Was a bit pricey as well for what we got (split two dishes and guac). But I loved the authenticity it prides itself on!
Be the first to ReplyWas excited to try this neighborhood spot but unfortunately
Was excited to try this neighborhood spot but unfortunately the experience left much to be desired. I had an early reservation so the restaurant only had a few other patrons there at the same time. After getting seated, no one else checked on us for the remaining time we were there. I found this especially odd since there were only 4 other tables occupied out of the 10-12 tables total - the place is small! Additionally, as others have pointed out, the food is expensive! $26 for a steak burrito...After waiting for 20 minutes, with no staff checking on us and no water even being at the table, we decided to leave and go elsewhere (plenty of other places in Logan Square. Clearly, they don't need or want additional business.
Be the first to ReplyPretty small spot on the inside.
..tables are definitely very close together. Overall would say food and drinks were good but definitely felt overpriced for what it is. There are other boujee Mexican spots in the city that are probably a better deal/tastier.
Be the first to ReplyThere is a lot of potential at this spot.
The food is creative, and there is the beginning of an unusual Mexican-inspired wine selection that would be great to see more of. Both the food and wine could be fleshed out a little to make this a really special find. The biggest immediate pain point is the "big bang" service that starts out impressive, then falters for the rest of the meal. Our server was absent most of the latter part of our meal, and we ended up at another spot for nightcaps as a result. Would definitely give it another try but unimproved service would be a deal breaker on a second visit.
Be the first to ReplyLoud, expensive and bad margaritas.
Food very so so and too expensive, bad combination. Presentation is bizarre. There was an entire pound of dill on top of the veggie dish. So unappealing. Then after we spent a boat load of money, the check came with a charge for employee insurance. Are you kidding me.

It's been awhile since I've been here but I felt I needed to leave a review because it was ridiculously great. Such a unique take on things and such flavorful dishes. Drinks were equally fantastic. We were here in the summer and enjoyed sitting on the patio but it's equally entertaining inside as well
Be the first to ReplyCame here last Friday.
Didn't have a reservation so put our name down for 2, told 45 min wait. Wanted to get a drink here, but we had just been walking in the heat and it was very hot inside the restaurant too. We couldn't bear to sit at the bar. Went somewhere else for a drink while we waited. 55 min and no text so walked back to check. At first they almost said they couldn't fit us, which didn't make sense, but but then they found a table. Seated, got a drink. I think I got the Chicana cocktail, which was really good. Friend and I ordered a few things to share. Neither of us are vegetarian, but enjoy veggie food. Got the Broccolini en Nogada to start. It just didn't mesh well: shishito peppers, maraschino cherries, creamy dressing, peach, broccoli...eh. Also got the Aguachile, which I didn't realize was ceviche. It was good though. For dinner, wanted to try the taco. $9.60 for one taco? Kind of extreme. It was a decent size though, so I guess that's good. Got 2 tacos and the "enchiladas." In quotes for a reason. These are mini empanadas. Mini. 3 for $25. I should have realized when there was an option to get 6; I thought who could eat 6 enchiladas! I knew these weren't going to be large at this type of restaurant, but still... My friend googled enchiladas potosinos, guess we've both learned for the future. Taste was good though, nothing mind blowing. The fried oyster tacos were yummy. Overall between portion size, price, and lack of vegetarian options, I wouldn't quite jump to come back here, though nothing was wrong or bad overall.
Be the first to ReplyReally great service and overall vibe (decor, music etc)
Really great service and overall vibe (decor, music etc) THe only downfall was that they were out of 3 tHings I wanted to order, which narrows the options down a lot because their menu is small. Great cocktails! I had a bad bunny which was a carrot, rum and citrus drink. It was so refreshing and slightly sweet. Their margs are so so good.

This place is incredibly unique in a really good way! After a day exploring Logan Square's street art, we found this restaurant on the corner of Logan Blvd. We arrived too early for dinner, but the staff was kind enough to let my son go in to use the bathroom and let us wait seated at a table on the patio to be the first ones served. This place is not your typical Mexican restaurant or taco shop. While on the more expensive side, I think its worth it because the offerings are incredibly unique and the quality fantastic! We tried the guacamole, which had a different seasoning we loved! I think they must count out chips and plan this out to an exact formula, because the ratio to of guacamole to chips was PERFECT! Not one leftover chip, need for refills, or any lingering dollop of guac. Next we tried a fried oyster taco in a squid ink tortilla. Weird, in a cool way! I could eat it again, it had a nice orange-y salsa mixed with pepper stuffed olives and capers, so it was this pleasant balance of salty, sweet, savory, and spicy. We also tried the duck, which might be the best duck I ever ate in my life! Perfectly crispy without being dry, and not fatty at all! Last, we ended our meal with the tres leche cake. Sooo good! I would DEFINITELY recommend this to anyone look to be wants to try new things, is willing to pay for high quality food, and is in the Logan Square area.
