The omakase never fails to surprise me and always delivers a great experience. Service is always great. This time we were able to meet the executive chef himself and chatted for a while. Definitely worth the 5 stars for food.
Be the first to Replyok, it's time for a covid-19 update for this establishment.
LOCATION AND AMBIENCELocated at Fairmont Hotel, you do not go into the Fairmont Hotel lobby side to get to the restaurant though. So quite a number of people will get lost. You'll have to go up to level 3 via the shopping centre escalators first, and then into one of the smaller passageways behind the shops to get to the restaurant. So do try and go early and work up an apetite as you play "find the restaurant". The tables are a bit more spaced out due to the covid-19 social distancing measures with staff wearing face masks during service. It is highly recommended that you make a reservation first before going. FOOD & DRINKSMost of the food is excellent as usual, especially the tempura, eel kabayaki (very soft, melt in your mouth and didn't really taste any bones). Go for the Grand Tasting Set if youare feeling peckish, else you can pick from the menu, although it's a bit smaller selection now. The sushi is also very good, although the prawn tempura in one of our sushi was soggy. The Yuzu Sake is excellent and very refreshing, and you can keep the lovely mini decanter shaped bottle if you want to.SERVICEThe service seems to have dropped a bit, although the wait staff are still very attentive and will attend to your requests. There were times when our dishes took some time to arrive (the same happened to the table next to ours) and we had to call the staff to check on our orders again. Looks like the restaurant is also having to deal with manpower constraints. We just took more sips of our sake while we waited.COSTOne of the highly rated Japanese restaurants in Singapore, so expect similarly high prices. Good idea to combine some credit card promotion or reserve through a 3rd party reservation platform to get a better deal.CREDIT CARD DEALS & OTHER PROMOTIONSBelow info courtesy of Swissotel website.- Up to 50% off total bill for Accor Plus members or American Express ® Platinum Credit Cards (AMEX Love Dining)- 25% off total bill with OCBC Credit/Debit cards- 20% off total bill with HSBC, Citibank or DBS Credit/Debit cards- MasterCard cardholders enjoys one complimentary main course for every order of 2 main coursesDo also checkout other 3rd party reservation sites such as Chope, HungryGoWhere, & Quandoo but do note that you may not be able to use it in conjunction with the credit card promos. Best is to call to check.CONCLUSIONDefinitely a place that I'll be returning to especially for the ambience and the food.
Be the first to ReplyThe service is very attentive and the food is not bad.
The problem is you can have food that is equally good at joints which look as pedestrian as Mikuni but which charge two-thirds the price they charge here. Popular with conservative older clients, or financiers with a hefty entertainment budget.
Be the first to ReplyThe best King prawn teppanyaki in Singapore hands down.
Old-time chef Eric Yong is the best! For the best experience sit at the teppanyaki tableside. The garlic fried rice is excellent. Keep the prawn sauce recipe a secret please.Have been visiting this restaurant since its opening 20 years ago and will continue to do so.

Australian beef (choice of tenderloin or sirloin) and ebi (prawn) ugon sauce set lunchBeef tenderloin was good but for reason not hot. Must have been sitting in the kitchen for a bit too long.Prawns were nice, don't really like the ugon sauce but it's not bad bad. Just not to my liking.Rice - choice of garlic or steamed. Garlic of course!Chawanmushi custard egg - nice.Miso soup Dessert was a chocolate mousse - so so.Good size portions.Overall a good meal. What I didn't like? It opened its doors at 12 noon; not a minute earlier. So there were lots of people standing outside the restaurant and going into it was another wait.

Great set lunches for those who can expense to their companies or individuals holding the feed at raffles card :) personally I find the ambience quite pleasant, and rather attentive staff except for the one who seems to judge us rather quickly by the fact that we didn't want his sparkling or still water, settling for good old tap instead. Absolutely love the chirashi don there. Toro, sweet uni, botan ebi, ikura, kinmedai and lots more! I didn't like the truffle kanpachi though. Felt that the sauce overwhelmed the fish and there was hardly any truffle aroma or otherwise. The tako age was pretty awesome. Tender octopus with a nice crispy crust. I found it slightly salty but the friend found it ok. What I don't like is that they charge $5 for green tea though. The tea is a standard hojicha blend and nothing special in the taste to me ):

Top notch modern Japanese restaurant by a korean chef! We ordered the $220 set meal for dinner with different types of Sake pairing for each food. There were about 9 or 10 food that came out one by one from appetiser to dessert. The stars of the night were the hokkaido snow crab tempura and hairy crab appetiser. The dessert was way too plain, regular and generic for its class. Nonetheless, everything else was grandeur. (I coulda given them perfect rating if they had much better dessert alternative though).

Had Lunch here on a recent business trip and it was my first time that I got to enjoy great seafood direct from Japan. The chef was excellent and the seafood was excellent but I cannot give this place five stars BECAUSE OF THE INSANELY OUTRAGEOUS BILL!!! One piece of sushi.....ONE PIECE....$30USD!I have been around the world and this place takes the cake for most outrageous billing. I even mentioned to them that my bill said Omakase ($100US), but I was still billed for separate items.I have no one to blame but myself to taking this place on...and I suppose they get all there business from corporate accounts....but karma is karma....watch out!
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is amazing.
We didn't go for the set menus, but rather ordered off the a la carte menu. For appetizers, we got the truffle kampachi and the wagyu foie gras gyoza. Both were amazingly flavorful and yummy! The fish was very fresh and accented with a touch of truffle flavor; it was heavenly. We had some salmon sashimi, salmon belly maki. The fish was fresh and well marinated... absolutely delish! To end, we had the soba of the day.. a huge bowl of soba noodles in spicy broth topped with marinated herring. Yum yum! great way to round off the meal! We will definitely be revisiting.. though with the hefty price tag, probably not that often!

I'd add this to my list of great restaurants to hold meetings in/bring clients. It's a modern Japanese restaurant tucked away in Fairmont hotel and the atmosphere is lively but not intrusive when you want to have a conversation. I had a Lunch Bentou that cost around $90, definitely on the high side even for a high end Japanese restaurant. Hence I'd suggest going if you have a corporate card and not your own dime, at least not for lunch. My bento had fresh sashimi, a perfectly grilled miso cod and a not so impressive ebi and vegetable tempura. There were other small dishes too and a delicious prawn head miso soup and really, I had no complaints. The tempura batter could have been more light but otherwise, the shrimp was sweet and fresh. I felt like the food, while subtle, was made meticulously in a way you'd expect from the Japanese, except of course that the kitchen is probably not Japanese and head chef, as my Korean counterpart pointed out, is Korean. Finally, I also liked that the staff were very well trained and unobtrusive during out meal. There's nothing more annoying than being interrupted in the middle of a conversation because the waitress wants to shove food in your space. Nothing of that sort here. Great experience all round.
