Came here on a weekday after work for a quick dinner.
The server was really nice and the food itself was great. The only thing I knocked off one star for was the price because you can find the same kind of drypot in Queens or Brooklyn for half the price.

Love the dry pot. So much food for a reasonable price. Awesome flavor too. I got a build your own bowl with Medium level spice and it was perfect (Spicy level spice is way too hot for me but my boyfriend loved it). Pork belly, chicken, beef - all great. Also loved all the veggie options. So many options to put into the bowl! Easy to walk into as well. Great spot. Apps aren't really worth it I just go for the bowls.

Came here for lunch on a weekend and ordered the build your own mala pot. The first time it came out it was WAY too salty, like overkill on my tastebuds. I can't remember the last time I sent anything back to the kitchen it might be a first for me. But this had to go back. The waiter totally understood and promptly got us a new order, the second one came out much better so I give this place a solid 4 for food and service. If I had one complaint it would be that the table for two is way too tight.

Got seated really quick for a saturday evening & me and a friend split a make your own dry pot! Ingredients all seemed super fresh & food was very flavorful. We ordered the pork belly, mushrooms, fishballs, and broccoli. Eventually the restaurant got busier, so was hard to flag down a waiter when we wanted to leave for the check, and would recommend making a reservation if you want to come later than 6:30/7 pm. Overall would rate the food 8/10! Would come back to try other combinations of dry pot.

Solid place for some spicy dry potCame here with a party of 9 at like 6:45 and there was a small wait, but i think normally it takes a while. Ordered pig ear, lung slices, scallion pancake, and three dry pots. I can't handle spicy much and i ordered the spicy, pretty solid and not spicy to the point where i'm in pain. I recommend throwing noodles in the pot so it soaks up the flavor and you go crazy. Don't recommend their fuzhou meat fishballs though, its just the regular frozen ones from the supermarket and it could be better. Also it's a bit on the pricier side if you end up ordering a fat pot But when i'm craving drypot i come here
Be the first to ReplyI love malatang.
This was my first meal in NYC as a first timer at NYC and I thought it was good but overpriced but I quickly learned that the whole city is overpriced and I'm visiting from the Bay Area hmm. The seafood (scallop and stuff) are very tasty as a fake pescatarian. The glass noodles? are a must!!!!!!!! team noodz 4ever

I love love love love love mala project and this is my favorite location! Tbh the drypot tastes good with anything in it but my go to is the spicy eye of round sliced beef, rice cakes, and potatoes which is perfect for one person. I also like their husband and wife lung slices. The service and overall vibe is amazing. I come here at least twice a month because of how good especially this location is!

Can someone say spicy?! This place knows how to turn up the heat and I'm okay with it! So many amazing options to choose from and friendly waitstaff!

For a place that calls itself Mala project, it was surprisingly not very spicy!! I have friends who swear otherwise and have only eaten at the East Village location, so it's possible that the lack of spice is just a problem with this location.I came here with a friend. We both self-report as being spice enthusiasts, but certainly not pros so we got the medium. However, we couldn't taste any spice, just salt. We even requested more spice to see if maybe we chose too low of a level, but we still didn't find it at all spicy. Despite this, the food was still pretty good (albeit very salty), and the service was very friendly. Would be open to coming again, but probably will try the EV location.

Take out Chinese, with a lunch special that was an entree with rice, soup or spring roll or drink. Hot and sour lacked substance, with the soup being too much corn starch and not enough white pepper. Pork and bamboo sauteed was good, though I would've cut the ginger differently, it periodically cropped up in a bite and made it really difficult to eat unimpeded.Overall not a bad deal for local area, lunch for around $10 and delivered to the building.
Be the first to ReplyThe dan dan noodles were SOOOO good.
It was the perfect level of spiciness and the noodles were so chewy! Super addicting, I couldn't stop reaching for more. We also ordered the popular Dry Pot, but I personally did not like because of the ginger. (not a fan of ginger but otherwise would have been super tasty!!) We also loved their alcoholic beverages! It was very unique and interesting PLUS strong alcohol level LOVED IT!!! The service was also amazing ~ Waitress and Hostess were both very friendly and welcoming! Would definitely come back!
Be the first to ReplyLiang Pi was good, but the portion was kinda small.
However, the taste was really good! Compared to LA Liang Pi, the portion is small considering the price. But the restaurant is cute inside!

SO GOOD! My friends and I all shared the build your own dry pot, dan dan noodles, and popcorn chicken. For the dry pot, I recommend getting mild or medium level of spice instead of the spicy level (unless you can handle the burning)! The dan dan noodles were not as spicy and super flavorful! I also highly recommend the popcorn chicken to share. We got there during happy hour and each got $10 cocktails (they're pretty strong)!
Be the first to ReplyFirst time getting food from here.
My local place is no longer local so I had been trying to find a location that offers Dry Pot and Mala Project did not disappoint. I was able to get my order as close as i could and it was delicious. I got the medium spice dry pit. I think i could have gotten it spicier but it was still delicious. I ordered online through their website and it was ready within 10 minutes of the order (not 30 like they had stated). When picking up it was quick and easy. I told the staff my name and the food was handed immediately. The food was delicious amd very filling. I will definitely return soon.

I officially live walking distance from my most favorite restaurant ever. Such a deeply satisfying combination of spices paired with literally any ingredient my heart desires?! Yes yes yes!!! Always have to ask how much damage I've wracked up halfway through ordering. Always hits the spot (and the leftover sauce is good for stirfries at home!)

My friends and I ordered the lamb pot at spicy level, which was our big mistake. When they say spicy, they REALLY mean it. We were all absolutely dying from the heat. I definitely recommend getting medium or mild spice here!We also got the dan dan noodles and spicy popcorn chicken, which were both pretty good and served as solid distractions from the too-spicy dry pot.We came by at happy hour and were able to take advantage of special cocktail prices ($10). The cocktails are INCREDIBLY strong here and less on the sweet side -- combined with the flaming lamb pot, this made for an interesting dining experience with my friends.

Absolutely love this Mala dry pot place! Super cute ambiance and really nice waiters as well. The build your own pot allows individuals to personalize each pot from ingredients to spice level. They also have a lot of ingredient options and it's priced fairly reasonably. Highly recommend for those who like spicy food!

For a party of two, I'm unsure why default suggested tip is 20% then 22% and 25%.... When the bill came, I manually inputted a tip of 18% because for two people, the average and expected tip is 15 or 18 percent. The service was just okay. Waiter did mess up one item in my dry hot pot but I just didn't say anything because it wasn't a huge deal to me. However, when I asked to print out the receipt, I go home to discover that the receipt had a 25% tip instead of the 18% I manually entered... AND I RECALL MANUALLY ENTERING 18%. My friend literally watched me do it too. So I'm not sure why the receipt comes out as a total with 25% tip. It makes me think the waiter altered it at the front bar area when printing out my receipt, since I was not looking. I just can't comprehend how a restaurant also defaults suggested tip to 20% minimum for a party of TWO. If this was a party of 5 or more, I understand tipping 20%, but this was just ridiculous... I feel ripped off and cheated and I urge other customers to beware of the tipping on the bill towards the end. Suspicious
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite restaurant in all of New York City.
If you've never tried Mala dry pot, this is the place to try it! There are so many unique flavors all in one bowl of dry pot that it never gets repetitive. You can order each ingredient you want and the spice level from their online ordering system so you can build your own dry pot. Although it's not the cheapest restaurant, the quality of the ingredients and the flavor of the dry pot definitely make it worth it. I always make sure to get lamb, beef, fish balls with roe, and lotus root in my pot and make sure to order rice on the side so it can soak up all the sauce. Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting New York especially since this restaurant is such in close proximity to times square yet never has a long wait.

I had a meal here before the pandemic and have remembered it the entire time. One of the few hip, authentic, and affordable places to go before a piece of theater in midtown.

Be the first to ReplyI love this place so much.
It is my guilty pleasure, my secret indulgence, the place I go to when I'm sad but also when I'm really happy lol I always just get the dry pot, spicy, with lotus root, enoki mushrooms and sweet potatoes every time. I might throw in some bean sprouts and tofu sheets or bok choy just to mix it up from time to time. It is a little steep price wise but I pay it up every time because the flavors are just too damn good. Thank you for existing.
