Wow wow wow! My wife took me and my parents here back in
Wow wow wow! My wife took me and my parents here back in November last year and this was truly one of the most incredible dining experiences of all of our lives! The Chefs personal touch and dedication to everyone having an incredible experience from the time they sit down until their very last taste, is truly something special. The food quality was out of this world as well. If you are in Portugal you need to make your way here and plan ahead to make sure you can get in!

I have only one word to describe this restaurant WOW!!! It was one of the most incredible experiences we had while visiting Portugal. The owner Chef George had us taste some of the most delicious dishes!! From the bee juice to the mushrooms with toasted goat cheese, shrimp in passion fruit cups and lamb shoulder that melted in your mouth. Pricing was very reasonable for this high quality farm to table organic food meal that will make you remember such a special Momento.

This is a true farm-to-table eatery, so the menu changes with the seasons. We were there in September and had one of the best meals I've ever had in Europe. The owner/chef Jorge comes out before each course and discusses with you what he wants to prepare. Mushrooms were in season and he brought out a basket of freshly harvested mushrooms to show us before he sautéd them. For the fish course he served an amazing cut of tuna--it was so delicate it seemed to melt in my mouth. His choice for wine was also excellent, but of course he'll let you choose if you prefer. One of our party had food allergies, and Jorge was extremely accommodating. His servers were fantastic too--attentive without being smarmy. It's pricey--with wine, we each paid about 100 euros for a six-course meal--but oh so worth it. It's a small place so reservations are smart. I will definitely go here again if I return to Evora.
Be the first to ReplyThe most expensive and worst meal I had in Portugal.
Over $100 for a sad plate of under flavored vegetables that were basically steamed though some weirdly were cold and May pickled. There were piles of spices on the side of the plate maybe it was intended as a DIY situation? Salads were skimpy and unremarkable. I left hungry and felt ripped off. Cannot recommend.

Gluten-free heaven!!! After being seated, the owner brought the menu board over to us and sat down at our table and explained each and every item. He emphasized the freshness of the food, with staff bringing out examples on cue to show us. It was impressive, because I have never been to a restaurant that took the effort to proudly display what fresh ingredients would be prepared for our meal. I chose the filet mignon, and my wife chose the mild vegetable curry. When she told the owner she was gluten intolerant, he said everything, with two exceptions, was prepared gluten-free. That was wonderful to hear because my wife had almost as many options as did I. We were served a shot-glass full of a pear purée that tasted like it had a touch of mint. It was a tasty way to stir our appetites! Next was a lentil soup, served in a wine glass. I could clearly taste the ingredients because it wasn't overwrought with salt. Next came the main courses. My filet mignon was cooked medium rare, covered with a reduction sauce, and surrounded by a variety of vegetables and roots - and a slice of quince! It was fun playing with this amazing combination of flavors. Again, there was no overuse of salt (probably none at all) because the veggies and roots carried all the flavor without needing salt. Pairing each bite of the filet with the varied items on my plate was a little slice of heaven. The curry was served with Basmati rice, and my wife ate every drop and grain! I guess it was pretty good. We had dessert as well: mango mousse and a walnut and caramel crisp (at least that's what I think it was.) We had coffees to accompany our desserts. I didn't lick the plate because there were too many people in the room, but a fellow diner caught be using my finger to wipe up and eat a little bit of the sauce from my plate and my wife's as well. The rave by reviews I read were not hyperbole. They were quite accurate. I asked the owner if I could move in with him.

The owner described the menu with enthusiasm. The presentation was divine. Highly highly recommend. Great service, great presentation, incredible food.

We dined here for lunch after exploring the Roman Temple and local museum. It's located towards the top of the main walkway up to the temple--October 5 Street. We could not have picked a better place. George the owner came to us and described his concept of food and the quality of meat fish and vegetables. Thanks to other reviews we ordered different soups - one was gazpacho and another was a cold fruit soup. Both were outstanding. Having eaten large big lunches throughout Portugal, we decided to choose the salads. They were fresh with various types of lettuce, fruit, cheese and meat. In fact I had six different varieties of tomatoes in my salad. George deals directly with farmers and gets the top quality product in fact I had six different varieties of tomatoes in my salad. George deals directly with the farmers and serves only top quality produce.Being from California, we are very particular about our fruits and vegetables and these were much higher quality. They were so good that we ordered just strawberries and peaches for dessert so he created a dessert for us.Service was impeccable and gracious.
Be the first to ReplyI would recommend dining here as a 10/10.
We found this restaurant in our Portugal Eyewitness guide book (would also highly recommend that!) It is located within a few minutes from the Roman temple. The menu is fresh and organically sourced daily, with an emphasis on local ingredients. The menu is served chalkboard style with the main dish ingredients and specials being brought out in advance for you to see (we were brought a platter of mushrooms and all of the meat/fish cuts to preview before ordering). The service was top notch and everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful with ordering decisions to ensure our dining experience was wonderful. A special shout out to the chef, George, who came to our table several times to check in on us and chat about our travels in Portugal. It felt like we were having dinner at someone's home with all of the personal touches and beyond welcoming service. Our bottle of wine was also chosen by the chef based on what we had ordered and preference for dry but dynamic whites. We loved it so much we ended up buying 2 bottles to go with us. In short, we absolutely loved it here and would definitely return.

We went during a quiet Sunday night during the off-season so were the only ones in the restaurant. The food was outstanding. We have been to several Michelin star farm to table restaurants in Chicago and New York and the food here is just as good. The soups we had pumpkin-Orange and pear-?(I forget) were very different but excellent. Was a mix between a fresh squeezed vegetable juice and soup. You could taste the actual ingredients because they weren't drowned out by cream. We had had a late lunch so skipped the appetizers. We wish we would have eaten less at lunch. We had the tuna and the local "black" pork. The tuna was very fresh and melted in your mouth. The pork tenderloin tasted like steak. While they don't have fries our potatoes (which I love), they created mashed "vegetables" which would satisfy any low carb dieters craving for mashed potatoes. They also served a mix of fresh vegetables as a side which were incredible. Very lightly cooked and fresh. The combination is not your standard steamed carrots, broccoli and cauliflower you might be used to at other restaurants. Very nicely seasoned to complement the flavor of the vegetables without over powering them. We were full but felt we couldn't skip dessert. Our dinner portions had been quite generous, not sure if that is the norm or if we got special treatment because it was a slow night. The desserts were also very light and tasty. We had the almond layer cake and a pastry called the "cheese from heaven", although it didn't seem to have any cheese but looked like a mini-cheese wheel. Our understanding was these were local specialties. We had very attentive service and the owner also explained the menu to us as others have noted. He truly cares about his creations and clearly has a passion and understanding of what goes well together. Our best meal in Portugal so far and most of our meals have been outstanding. It is a bit more expensive than most, but well worth it. Still cheaper than what you would pay for this type of meal back in the states.

We were in Évora after cycling the Portugal Coast on our Tandem Bike's from Palmela to Lagos! We decided to walk a bit as we'd been in the car all day. As we wandered the streets of the city of Évora ( inside the old city walls) we came across a lovely, brightly colored indoor restaurant ! We initially asked if outdoor seating was available ( no) and if they had seating for a party of 6! They said yes, and asked for 10 minutes "to prepare"....When we returned, the service was outstanding!!!! The waitstaff ( Claudia and Ingrid) AND the Chef ( George) were over the top attentive, explaining and demonstrating each dish avail that night, checking regularly to make sure we were please with our food. The selection of sautéed mushrooms was amazingly scrumptious!!! Tho a rather pricey dining experience, by Portugal standards ( or so we've been told...) we found the food exceptionally and majestically presented , the staff funny, lighthearted, all orders accepted with a nod and "ok", and a smile, and NOTHING written down!!! Our meals were amazing!! The wine was fabulous! And the next day as we were walking around the Square in Évora, George came up to us to say hello. He was in Town picking up the fresh fish he had selected for tonight's dinner selections!!!!!! We told him what an amazing and scrumptious dinner we'd had, and he thanked us as much as we thanked him for our spectacular culinary experience!!!! We then went on to share our experience at Momentos with our hotel staff, our winery tasting staff and anyone else we found! Momentos is a farm to table, NO pasta/rice/potato available kinda place. All the fish and vegetables were FRESH and not drowned with spices/sauces . It was one of THE best dining experiences I have ever had!!!!

I am not what you would consider a "foodie" but certainly appreciate great food. This place is one of the best. Farm to table. Fresh. No crap. If you want pasta burger and fries, skip it. If you want authentic, well thought out, incredible food, you can't miss it. My 17 year old son, who lives on the traditional teenager diet, said "this was the best meal I've ever had". The owner George was wonderful and wise. Waitstaff the same. Make it a point to go if you're ever in Evora.

The food here was excellent, in a very modern farm-to-table style but incorporating elements of traditional Portuguese cuisine. Definitely not the place for picky eaters, but if you're adventurous you'll discover a variety of interesting dishes. The owner is a little overbearing in service, and the prices are high even by American standards, but the restaurant is very much an artistic statement, so this is somewhat to be expected. Not the place to go for a hearty meal, but rather for a new experience.

We have probably never been to such a great restaurant and we travel extensively. Since our first visit was so good, we returned the following year. Everything was excellent both times. The fresh food, properly cooked and creative along with the terrific wine can't be beat! George and his staff have made us feel like we were part of their family each time. Can't wait to go back again. Reasonably priced too!

The owner doesn't make you feel free to choose, he is a pain in the ... They don't serve potatoes, rice or pastas, only vegetables, the prices are too high for the food!In just a few meters there are other choices with real Portuguese food and with better prices and kindness! The other reviews, unfortunately, are right about the owner!
