I had to try this place since I was in Detroit.
I heard good and bad things about this place. So I wanted to try this place for myself. Well the only you can order from is at the walk up outdoor window. Which is not a good thing on a cold windy day. Especially if there's a line. They make the food right away which is good. I got the spaghetti with meatballs. It was $12.00 but it was a big serving. The garlic bread was delicious the meatballs had a little kick to it. The spaghetti was good, average. I didn't go inside because it was cold. I just wanted to go to my car at that point. I say the place is tourist attraction if you are fan. But that is pretty much it.

What do you do when you're in Detroit? Eat at Eminem's restaurant, even if I'm not a huge fan. Everyone recommends checking it out when you're in Detroit. Maybe it's a novelty for a Canadian. Was it worth the trip across the border? It can easily be missed. It's in the middle of an alley, with just a window and tiny sign. You can go inside for sit down seating, feels fast food-like. But it's connected the Union Assembly (same parent company/owner) and they give you a hassle even if you have a group eating from both restaurants. Prime downtown location. The food portion was good. I was very full. There's a lot of spaghetti, with a few meatballs, and a slice of garlic bread. It's very carb heavy. Not the highest quality. The food is just sitting there. Service is quick. Reasonably priced.I think the coolest part is the experience and "The Trailer" on the second floor. It has some overpriced swag and clothes. It also has some album and pieces from his music videos. Without this, the food isn't special. But life is about the experiences and I'll remember this.

Be the first to ReplyThis place was good I mean you really can't make spaghetti
This place was good I mean you really can't make spaghetti awful, so like it was good spaghetti and the garlic bread was tasty but I mean I feel like you go more for the experience than the food, I think I would have preferred to order the spaghetti sandwich because the garlic bread was better than the spaghetti. The little eating area is cute but it's kind of awkward to go inside this other restaurant with your pasta from the alley. Service was fine you order at a window in the alley. Overall it was more for saying you went to mom's spaghetti rather than the actual food so I can't fault it .

Served in Chinese take-out style containers, this well sized spaghetti is served hot, either on its own or with meatballs (regular or vegan) and a side of garlic bread. The spaghetti is done with a basic sauce, and is very good. I personally would have liked a tad more garlic on the bread, but that too was delicious. We got four meatballs with each order, and both the regular and vegan options were tasty. Having gone there later in the evening, we walked up to the window (which faces the alley) and took our order to go. If you're in the area, it's worth a visit. I mean..how could you not?

Eminem's window serving only Spaghetti leaves a lot to be desired. Mom's Spaghetti is a small little windows with a seating area on the corner of Union Assembly off of Woodward. After waiting in line for 30 minutes, it still took them 10 minutes to throw overcooked pasta and bland tomato sauce into a takeout container. There definitely is a great vibe to the seating area with relics of Eminem's career and a shop up top with really cool merch. As a restaurant I can't recommend it, but if you want a little piece of Detroit and Eminem then you're in the right place.

3.5 stars if I could. Had been trying to hit this spot a few times but the line was too long. Got into town before they opened and was able to find a close by parking spot. Peeked in the windows while I waited to check out the decor. Was first in line for the 4pm opening and just got the spaghetti sandwich. You can take inside the restaurant that it's attached to and eat it in the designated area. Upstairs they have some memorabilia but not a ton. I did enjoy seeing the photocopies of Eminem's thought process on putting lyrics to paper. Staff was super friendly .The food-spaghetti sandwich. Nothing spectacular but it wasn't bad either. Definitely tasted like a childhood classic. It's not a must repeat when in town but if someone I was with really wanted to go I wouldn't refuse it.

Basically you order in an alley way then you may be able to eat inside if you can get a spot at the limited seating. On the day that I went, I had to go through the adjoining restaurant and order inside. The manager of the adjoining restaurant was a little peeved that we were in there. And was a little rude. So it was an awkward experience. Also, because it was weird to be standing inside a restaurant where other patrons were eating...and we were just standing around behind them. You get lots of spaghetti. It's pretty basic. Not bad, but also nothing out of this world. Meat balls are inconsistent, some were dry some were ok. They are quite small...and not enough meat balls to spaghetti. You also get a piece of toast. Would I go out of my way to drive through this area to eat this again? No.
Be the first to ReplyI LOVE this place.
It's a very short walk from the hotel indigo and I was walking back from work with a friend. If anyone's curious, January is the coldest month in Detroit, but I made him wait for me so I could get a spaghetti sandwich. To be fair, a friend had wanted to go too, but got transferred and wasn't able to join us. I really wanted to go so I could get a pic of the sandwich to send her since she was missing out (I never claimed I wasn't petty)I also got one last year when I was in Detroit and wanted to come back for another

I will admit, being an Eminem fan, Moms Spaghetti does get a little biased 5 star review. But the whole concept is pretty cool. The ordering window is outside in the alleyway across the street from Comerica Park. The staff was very friendly and cheerful. The food is already made and you get your food as soon as you order it, so you really don't have to wait too long. I ordered their Spaghetti w/ Balls. It cost $12 which is such a great price because it's very filling. It's served in a large black "Chinese takeout box" with their Moms Spaghetti log on it. The spaghetti itself was also pretty good as were the meatballs. It was also served with a slice garlic bread and topped with Parmesan cheese. It's always cool to try these places at least once, but I was definitely impressed and wouldn't mind coming back in the summer before a Tigers game.
