Everything was great! I'll be the hype person for a moment-- but Michael gave the best service; extremely attentive and Mon Ami Gabi is our #1 place to frequent from here on. The building was beautiful. We sat outside because the weather was amazing, and the patio was aesthetically appealing as well. How do I give 1 million stars out of 5? Thank you to everyone from yesterday :)
Wow, just wow.
Came in after just a quick Google search for French restaurants and what an experience. Incredible ambience and service. Walking thru the dining area to the patio, I could just hear "then he kissed me by the Crystal's in my mind as we passed by busy bus boys, waiters and guests. Our waiter Michael l was an absolute gem. Really brought the whole experience over the top (good way). Made me think to myself "they dont make waiters like this anymore" We had the brie, escargot, salmon, hanger steak (Michael's recommendation), and everything was just amazing. Still reeling from the unexpected experience and will absolutely be back very soon. 10/10 recommend.

Mon Ami is the place to be.
One of our favorite dining experiences in the city, from food to vibes to SPECTACULAR service. Shouting out our server Lily, who truly went above and beyond to make our night special. They made perfect recommendations, paid attention to detail, and were so friendly they made us feel right at home! We WILL be back, and will be requesting Lily again!!! Thanks!

We have had many excellent meals and especially considered the onion soup to be outstanding. However our latest order was simply awful. Gone was the flavor of what always tasted like a wonderful red wine. Gone was the richness of the broth. Instead we received a bland watery soup with no cheese. And then in a separate wrap a hard shell of some unknown food, maybe cheese that when placed in the soup did not soften enough to cut into bite size pieces. We had to remove it from the soup. so extremely disappointed as the onion soup had always been the highlight of dinner there.
Far better than the Bethesda one.
Service and food both good. Consider offering two kinds of frites.

Very nice ambiance, food and service! Had a fun time with my group. The only negative is trying to book larger parties (8+) and they're very busy so often challenging getting a reservation for more than 2 ppl.
This was our first time here and we had a 5pm reservation.
It's a beautiful space and we got seated immediately. Love the French music they play as well. We enjoyed the food. Our waiter was pleasant; however, we like to dine when we visit nice restaurants. We don't like to order everything at once but our waiter insisted and said it would be spaced out. We ordered two beers to start along with a bottle of champagne and a starter and bread and two entrees. No sooner than the beers being served the champagne was served immediately as well. I was sampling the champagne with a full beer. I went to the restroom after my beer and the entrees were already on the table. I will not fall for this trick again that the chef likes to have all of the order. No, you just want to turn the table. I informed the manager on my way out. It feels like a chain, which is very unfortunate. Disappointed with this fact. We were out in like 45 minutes.
Love this Restaurant.
First of all, it is part of the lettuce entertain you restaurant group and I get points for eating at their restaurants. You should check it out. It is one of the best rewards programs out there. The food is very good, and the servers are attentive without being bothersome. Highly recommend the French onion soup and the chicken. The atmosphere here is very nice, especially if you can get an outside table in the nice weather. Nice view of Lincoln Park Zoo.

Family has been coming here fo over 25 years for everyone's birthday-- seen the ups and downs, renovation, pandemic.... Food quality in general is still excellent-- steak frites and chicken are consistently excellent. Belden cocktail: also excellent. Outdoor seating is lovely unless you're seated along Belden, and you're crammed against the water storage cabinet. I'm sad that house merlot is gone. Unfortunately, the Baguette on 7/28 was terrible! Not crisp or watm, actually stale and tough. Server said it was due to the 'outdoor bread warmer". Dubious. I fear something fundamental in the bread source has changed for the worse. Time will tell. To end on a positive note, our server, Braden, who was new for us, was GREAT!
Make This Your Go-To!
Mon Ami is a true go-to. The food and drinks are always excellent. The phenomenal food is always complimented by the kind, accommodating, and engaging staff. I’ve never had a negative experience and it will remain at the top of our list.
Mixed Dining Experience
Our family recently celebrated birthdays at Mon Ami Gabi. It was a mixed experience. The pluses were the delicious food and service. What more could you ask for, right? Unfortunately there were significant minuses as well. First, the food, which was 5 stars. We had a fixed four-course meal. Each course was delicious. Our starters were Escargots de Bourgogne & Melted Brie. It had been ages since I’ve had escargots, they were delicious, prepared with butter, garlic & parsley & served out of the shell in a piping hot pan with crusty bread. The Melted Brie was prepared with walnuts & apricot jam, so good! Our second course was a choice of either French onion soup or a salad with endive, radicchio, pecans, Roquefort & dressed with a light vinaigrette. The salad was tasty, nice & light. My main course was filet with a red wine reduction and pomme frites. The steak was perfect, but the fries were just OK. Our dessert was a tiny chocolate mousse in a glass with little chocolate chips in it. It was good but not remarkable. The wine our hosts selected for us was a great accompaniment. Our server was exceptional. He was cheerful and attentive; our service was perfectly paced. He was kind to the “littles” in our group, who were tired from a full day, well behaved, alternating between eating & dozing off. As for the minuses; the reservation was made a month in advance, yet we had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated! The lighting is very dim, and the tables are very close together. It was also very crowded and very noisy. So the atmosphere did not lend itself to conversation or relaxed enjoyment of the meal, thus my rating. As for the minuses.
Special Anniversary
Our 56th anniversary (told them with reservation) was incredibly special - greeted with a lovely flute of champagne. The food, the wines, the server Michelle, and the festive atmosphere of the Restaurant Week in Chicago made it one of the most memorable wedding anniversaries we have ever had. Michelle knew not only about the wines they had, but also about the regions of their origins. It was a delight to talk with someone who knows so much about wine! It was a wonderful evening for us. We live in Freeport, Illinois, a two to three hour drive from downtown So, even though we had never been to Mon Ami Gabi (my friend, Gabi) we felt a very warm and sincere welcome. Every seat was filled with an enthusiastic group of diners. We could hear pleasant voices all around us, and we did not have to listen to any piped in background music. The coq au vin that I had was covered with red wine reduction sauce. The escargot was different from what we are used to, with more herbs than garlic. The triple scoop ice cream with profiteroles and hot fudge desert was perfect for us If you are planning to go during restaurant week, I would offer that reservations for the best times fill up early, so don't wait until two weeks to go like I did. Altogether, a very special French bistro, a fine restaurant.
Moan about Gabi
The service was good, the restaurant lovely and the building it’s located in was AMAZING! The food however was about average. The chicken liver mousse was terrible. And the pomme frites were basically fried potato shavings, the majority of them were under 1” in length and way over cooked. It looked like we got the bottom of the fryer basket. All the food was average at best. It’s too bad, we were looking forward to eating here.
A great dinner before or after "ZooLights"
This is a fabulous high-end spot for dinner before or after visiting the zoo for "ZooLights" during the Christmas season. The restaurant is only about a block from the west entrance of the zoo, and the classic French cuisine is first tier. Until our visit, I did not realize that this is the original that inspired the Mon Ami Gabi in Las Vegas. While you lack the view of The Strip, the Chicago original has classic French cuisine that manages to be excellent while not being pretentious, the setting is fun, and the staff is first tier. It will set you back, but you get what you pay for. Our food was excellent. I, of course, went for my usual steak frites bearnaise, my wife had her favorite moules frites, other family members had duck, a confit appetizer, etc. Everything we wonderful. Bottom line is that this is an excellent French bistro experience in a fun Chicago neighborhood close to the zoo. It will cost you, but it will be worth it.
Good food, ambiance issues
The food was excellent. My wife and I each had a steak frites and were very pleased with the quality the stead and the fries. Service was particularly well, friendly and efficient. One problem is the dark lighting. Very difficult read menu and not comfortable for conversation. I prefer to see the people I am dining with. Second problem was small size of table. I imagine this allows them to serve more customers but our table was uncomfortably crowded.
Losing it's luster.
For me, it is losing its luster but the prices are still high. We have eaten here many times. Atmosphere lovely, menu too. But all our food was a little off and way overpriced. I had a salad and an appetizer sized pot of mussels. My husband had the salad with some added chicken. the chicken was bone dry, overcooked. Both salads were too heavy on roquefort cheese and too light on lettuce. They charged us for bread. We had no alcohol. Bill was in. excess of $100. there are far better places nearby.

As someone who isn't the biggest fan of steak, i really enjoyed it here with the herb butter!
This place is gorgeous.
Went there for a friends birthday and she was very happy. $35 for steak and fries is a pretty good deal and that's what most plates cost. Out of all of steaks the filet mignon was the tastiest. It's one of the nicer restaurants in Lincoln park to go to.
Dear Rachel, you are the rudest server I have ever had.
I have been coming to this restaurant for 5+ years. We decided to celebrate our daughter's college graduation at this restaurant and the first thing you say is "congratulations what did you get your degree in?" My daughter responds that she got a bachelor in science to your response, "what are you going to do with that"? And you laugh at her? I'll tell you what she will do with that, not be a server at 50 years old as she is already accepted into dental school. Needless to say that we will never be dining here ever again.

Mon Ami has been my go to French restaurant in the city and tonight by far was the best I've had here. Everything was on pointe from start to finish. Started with martinis which we asked to be extra cold and it came with a layer of ice crystals floating on the top (you know what I'm saying) and it was heaven! The shrimp cocktail was fresh, plump and flavorful and the pâté was smooth as silk . Let's not forget the bread omg. We split an heirloom tomato salad with feta and man was that delicious! I had Hangar steak with frites and they too were spectacular! My friends had the steak frites with au poivre and the salmon. All thoroughly enjoyed. Finished with profiteroles, salted Carmel chocolate and chocolate mouse. I know, we were pigs . Btw Kudos to our server Amy, she made the evening special! Thank you Amy, sorry for the 10% tip. just kidding folks!

They are hitting on all cylinders. The food is fantastic. The ambience is nice and the Service is off the charts. Hopefully you get Liz as your waitress. Steak frites probably one of the best I've ever had in the espresso martini is perfect

I got the steak frites with au poivre sauce and it was cooked perfectly!! The sauce had a lot of flavor and the steak was so tender. The fries were just ok, they were kind of mushy. The hostess was so nice and made sure we sat at the best table. Was pretty packed for a Tuesday night so make sure you grab a reservation. The waiter was pretty nice but was definitely busy .. took him a while to take our order and bring our check. Also love the vibe of this place, super intimate
Brought my spouse for his birthday.
Everything was great and waiter was in good spirits. We got there early for 5:15 pm reservation. They were very accommodating, even pulling out the table to sit down. It was crowded but not too loud. We ordered the mussels and bread. Very generous portions and entree was delicious. We slowly became more and more satisfied until we barely finished dessert. They also brought out a profiterole with a lit candle for his birthday. Only complaint is when I called and asked for candle the man who answered said they had no candles. But it all ended well. I highly recommend Mon Ami Gabi for elegant dining. If you're celebrating a birthday, Bring your own candles just in case.
The food here is amazing.
It was my first time trying this restaurant and we were there for a birthday. Our reservation was at 9pm but they were backed up so we waited until about 9:20 pm to be sat at a table. We got a drink at the bar and sat in the lobby. Our server was very nice. We ordered the escargot and baked brie as appetizers. We came in for the escargot and it did not disappoint. I would come back for them alone. The Brie was also very delicious. Both appetizers come with bread. For dinner we ordered the famous chicken and their hangar steak. They claim their chicken is famous and for a very good reason! The skin was nice and crispy but the chicken was so juicy. The sides included mashed potatoes and mushrooms with onion and bacon, both of which were just as delicious. The hanger steak was also juicy and cooked to perfection. The fries were alright. We ended the night with the birthday dessert. I will definitely be back to try more from their menu, maybe the steak bordelaise.
The Best Chicago French restaurant.
Why 5 Stars? Easy - this was an amazing experience from the moment we approached the building. The restaurant is in an historical certified building with gorgeous chandeliers and beautiful details in the entrance lobby. The restaurant was bustling with patrons, but we were quickly seated. Our server Jeremy D was quite accommodating throughout the meal. We began with Grey Whale gin martinis, escargots de Bourgogne and a warmed baguette. This was followed by a delightful little gem salad, an absolutely delicious beef Bourgogne for me and a perfectly prepared skate wing for my wife. These were accompanied by glasses of a reasonably priced Sauvignon blanc. To end the meal - since this is a wonderful French restaurant - Classic Profiteroles and a double espresso! To say we absolutely LOVED the meal is an understatement! It was the best French restaurant meal we’ve had in Chicago - ever! So yes we will be back and soon. As to my readers - Go, Go, Go there. You’ll love it!

We came for dinner on a Tuesday night and I can't believe that I haven't been here before. The restaurant is located adjacent to the park in Lincoln Park. The menu offers French cuisine with all the classics. The beef bourgeon was amazing. The service was friendly and despite our reservation starting late (8:00pm) we never felt rushed to leave the restaurant. The ambiance is classy and sophisticated. I will definitely be back to this hidden gem in Lincoln Park.

A delicious birthday dinner. Restaurant is not too loud, but is intimate and delicious and service was attentive and kind. High quality food and a wonderful evening.
Disappointing
Made a reservation way in advance and they tried to pawn off the worst table in the restaurant when we arrived (as we were 2 women). We waited an additional 30 minutes for another table in the back room. Very little ambience. I’m always put off when there is a charge for bread, especially at a steak house. We had steak tartare to start, which was good. Cocktails were mediocre and truly a measured pour. The chicken dish was very good, filet quality was fair, sides of French fries were done well but the creamed spinach was teeny with little flavor. Truly a disappointment, especially compared to their Vegas location. There are much better steakhouse choices in Chicago.
Delicious classic French cooking in a relaxed upscale environment
We went here the week prior to Christmas with extended family. (4 adults, 3 kids) The menu features classic French Country fare: steak fritte, French onion soup, escargot, fillet, salads, and beef bourguignon. Steaks can be topped with classic French sauces if preferred. The full bar offers a mix of classic and creative options including a variety of French wines.
Nice
Charming French bistro decor, good food. they know how to not overcook eggs; not a tinge of brown on the omelette. The truffle eggs don't work; the chewy bits of truffle overwhelm the delicate softness of the eggs, and their flavor as well. Melted brie is very good, though the baguette over-toasted (too dry). Our server was great; knows her menu, gives good advice.
The Best of Everything!
Our daughter's rehearsal dinner was held here and I can't speak highly enough of the service, the food, the drink, the atmosphere. During our cocktail hour the electricity went out due to high winds in the area. The staff at Mon Ami Gabi didn't miss a beat with providing more candles for light and continuing our cocktail hour. When it was evident that the electricity would not be restored in a reasonable amount of time, the manager arranged for us to finish our meal at one of their sister restaurants. It was like a progressive dinner! The amount of professionalism and customer service was impeccable. Thank you for all you did to make sure this rehearsal dinner was a huge success and one to be remembered. We will return on our next trip to Chicago and we will recommend highly to all of our friends,
Not worth the pomp and attitude
We are two older women who eat out constantly but hadn’t been to this neighborhood legend for at least 5 years. It was a lovely autumn night and we had no reservation. But the hostess worked hard to find us a table which was difficult even on a Monday night. The food was decent but our waiter basically could’ve cared less about us. We were invisible to him. Nothing major, just other tables being served first and getting his attention which we had to call for for service, the bill, etc. to him, we were truly invisible and won’t be back. So many other good city choices that value women dining together.

Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* BraveCloth47, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* BraveCloth47 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to BraveCloth47 for any questions Peter may have as BraveCloth47 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* BraveCloth47 now uses their connections at Mon Ami Gabi Chicago to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If BraveCloth47 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, BraveCloth47 receives the $200 reward which is credited to BraveCloth47's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Mon Ami Gabi Chicago!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
