Service is questionable today (ok, bad).
Brought appetizers to table without silverware or napkin. Had to ask for water. Had to walk to the bar for silver ware and napkin. Had to ask waitress to clear table before bringing entree. Waitress cleared dishes and left all the food particles on the table. VERY disappointing today. I have been here many times and today is the absolute worst service I have ever received here. Hard fail today! Staff is nice and offer many excuses for their poor service today. Horrible service! ....And to make matters worse, the stupid table leg is broken and the table has been wobbling since we sat down. There are all personnel and management issues. Sounds like someone needs a new GM......
Be the first to ReplyOkay, I'm going to start from the beginning.
We had reservations for 9:00 p.m. after standing there for several several minutes more like 45 minutes. Even though our reservation was at 9:00, we ended up being seated at 9:45. The lobby was extremely packed. You could tell it was a younger crowd who wasn't there to eat. They were there waiting for the bar to turn into a nightclub so having a mixture of middle-aged people in a lobby with what look like teenagers with their unthinkables... Lol hanging out. (I'm sorry that's the only word I can think of using without getting kicked off Yelp) Lol Finally we were seated and it was a breath of fresh air when our waitress came. First thing she says. I'm sorry you had a crappy beginning. Can I get you a drink? I don't know how fast I jumped up but it was pretty fast and I said yes please. And I ordered the bang bang Bangkok. To be honest, I just ordered it because I love the name but it ended up being pretty good. It was a margarita with jalapenos in it. Then we move on to the food is an appetizer. I ordered the Eden on me, a California roll and a tampier shrimp roll. Today was ladies night so mind you everything. Your lady ordered was supposed to be half off so if you didn't get half off on your order today I would be calling the owner. Cuz they will not tell you and I even had to catch my waitress. Pull her aside and said hey you screwed up after the fact she already charged my credit card. So moving on we got the Mongolian chicken to split side of white rice. These little meat stick things that were set up with their own little fire. My mister had a beer. Didn't even bother wasting time for dessert. I won't be back. No offense but seriously the bill was over $90 for two people. We each only ordered one drink and that's without her realizing she didn't even take any money off. So for a $90 bill, if ladies are half off Aunt we ordered the same thing. Then why wouldn't the bill be 50 or 40 or 45? No the bill ended up being $79 so how they figure that out? I have no idea but you know why I was watching the front hostess and the hostess supervisor Aunt. The amount of unprofessionalism is disgusting. Mind you I was sitting next to the hostess for probably over half hour watching them watching their supervisor watching the manager watching security. After all we're yelpers isn't that what we do? LOL and what I seen was an absolute shame. Not once said the manager come up front to try to fix the situation. Yes, I'm talking to you. You older gentlemen with the beard. And the hostess supervisor was very comfortational with all the hostesses to the point where one almost walked out. My suggestion is you need to re-line up your entire staff I mean your entire STAFF. DO YOU REALLY WANT YOUR SECURITY GUARDS AND SWEATPANTS WEARING NO SOCKS AND TENNIS SHOES TO BE THE FIRST THING THAT YOUR CUSTOMERS SEE IS THEIR PROTECTION GOD FORBID A BUNCH OF CRAZY ASIAN LOVING PEOPLE GET OUT OF HAND? AT LEAST ASSIGN A DRESS CODE FOR CHRIST'S SAKES YOU ARE A WELL-ESTABLISHED BUSINESS IF YOU WANT TO KEEP HAVING TRASH COME IN KEEP GIVING TRASH SERVICE THAT'S ALL I'M SAYING, people like me and my Mister who come in here intend on spending good money and being regulars for a long time. Not to mention my voice can spread to the many. I'm not here to ruin a business. I'm here to make a business and push them to do the right thing. I hope they do the right thing and reach out. But I'm not your voice. So please feel free to leave your impression of how your experience was, but mine. Very disappointing. I've been looking forward to coming here for years, but you know what that has now come to a disappointing END.

Really miss authentic Chinese and Mon Jin Lau brought me back to my childhood! My parents use to take me to Kow Kow Inn down on 6 mile and Woodward in Detroit back in the 60's and 70's.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was delicious.
Any of the noodle dishes are great, even for picky kids! The cocktails are also delicious, pricy, but I'd say worth it for the taste and the service! Everyone there is very sweet and welcoming. We will be back!
Be the first to ReplyThe food had a great flavor and great quality.
Overall, the service was good, but our waitress seemed to be fairly new to the job, so we never got silverware or napkins until we requested them. The place is a little bit loud and noisy and the tables are very close together. I would come back for the food and would give the service another chance.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food always.

If you are looking for fusion sushi this place might be it for you. The sushi looked amazing and well decorated, it was fresh. The flavour was there but not for my palate, it was confusing and didn't have the greatest taste. The best was crab Rangoon. The server was nice but they appeared to be rushing things. The lighting was calm and it's well decorated. They were extremely busy, with a lot of seating but too tight, it wasn't comfortable.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great service.
Great ambiance, very busy, this place is buzzing!!!! The hot and sour seafood is one of the best

Be the first to ReplyThe best calamari, sesame chicken around.
My favorite restaurant. Drinks and sushi are really good too
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunately going downhill lately.
I'll try again in six months. The food is lackluster and not fresh the last two times I've visited.
Be the first to ReplyJust ok.
I booked a date night for my birthday. On a Saturday I expected it to be slammed. The service was strained and the servers dedicate most of their time to larger parties. There was a moment there where we were wondering if we'd ever order. Does the restaurant have dessert? We wouldn't know because it wasn't offered/suggested. The food was fine but not worth the price. My dish wasn't at all as described. My husband didn't like his food. We ended up spending almost two hours there unintentionally. My husband and I used to make a point to come out here to eat and it has been impeccable but, not this time. We gave the server an ample tip based on the fact that we are both in the service industry. It was disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyI'm not from this area but I come here often for work.
The first time I ordered from here, it left a lasting impression. So my trip to Troy, I was excited to ordered from here again, but unfortunately it disappointed. Their Pad Thai was flavorless, the crab Rangoon arrived soggy and a bit cold. And I'm currently eating the Scallion Noodles with Beef, and again, the flavor is very minimal. Not sure what changed in a few months between my first great experience, and the ones that followed, but this may be the last time for a while. The quality for the price no longer feels worth it.
Be the first to ReplyMon Jin Lau is all about the experience.
It's a fairly unique place serving a mixture of a fine dining, night club and intimate feel with Chinese classics. If you're a 'foodie' and looking for unique options I would not recommend this restaurant. They serve American Chinese and it's pretty average but plated nicely. They use a lot of generic brown sauces that all taste the same. If you're not very adventurous or like bland Chinese then you will like it. If you enjoy a lot of spices or more complex menus then you will think the food is passable. The pricing reflects the experience, not the quality of food. Their servers are fairly good but in our experiences seem rushed and usually don't know the menu well. I highly recommend the sushi- it's fresh, nicely presented and so delicious! Their drinks are fun also. Overall I will return due to ambience and vibe but be prepared to spend a little more for slightly above average food.
Be the first to Replyfirst time in a while i have to say overall it was an ok
first time in a while i have to say overall it was an ok and good experience but the sushi needs a lot of work not the best as all claims to be it's simple and some are tasteless for the prices and the crab ragoon needs a different approach too much bather made it too thick you can hardly taste the stuffing and wasn't all that tasty it should a signature dish for appetizer , other than that the drinks were yummy and waitress was good

The dish I was served of scallops(I doubt they were scallops) arrived in a bowl with inferior chinese vegetables, swimming in what looked & tasted like soy sauce. Rice was a tiny bowl & was al a carte. My friend got eggplant that was also drenched in a soy sauce. Neither dish tasted anything like anything but soy sauce. I had asked the waitress for advice when ordering, & also told her the dishes we received were terrible after we began eating them. I left the full bowl & I won't return to Mon Jin Lau. The restaurant was also painfully loud.
Be the first to ReplyNot impressed.
Food was not even worth taking the leftovers home. Crackling soup was burnt. Almond chicken so hard I couldn't cut it or chew it. Actually spit out in my napkin. Didn't bother to complain to the server we just paid and left. Won't go back. One of three entrees ordered was good. worn/ dated interior. Owner talked to one table for almost our entire dinner. Place is Not my scene.
Be the first to ReplyFood is good.
...however, look forward to being crammed in any spot that's available. We sat in the bar area where we were seated at a table for two. Not a problem, except the area should have only had two tables rather than three. No room at all. My husband sat in a chair that was so hard he was hurting when we left. So if you're looking for someplace to get to know your neighbor real well count on this place. My husband's salmon was luke warm and his vegetablees were chewy. This place is off our list for dining for a long long time
