Yes. The room is beautiful and the food is generally good. Sometimes better than good like the soup dumplings. Sometimes it tastes good but more in the way candy does (crispy beef). But the prices and portions…I struggle for words here. We are luxury travelers and accustomed to paying premium prices at premium locations. But even in a town where hedge fund money and free-spending Russian oligarchs are ubiquitous, Mr. Chow’s can raise eyebrows. Entrees supposedly served “family style”are preciously small (like the Chinese food equivalent of a tapas dish), but cost $50+. And the wait staff’s approach is aggressive and fast talking in the way one would more expect to encounter at a tourist trap…which is what the restaurant ultimately felt like. Withinseconds of being seating, a waiter rolled a cart up to the table offering glasses of champagne to start. He reluctantly presented a price card: the glasses were $40+. We passed. Wine by the glass wasn’t much better and started at about $19 for the Sancerre and went up steeply from there. They press very hard for everyone to do a silly priced $96 prim fixe menu, and frankly whether you do the menu or order a la crate you’ll finish feeling fleeced. Dinner for three, which was good but not exceptional in any way, came to $480 with tip. The experience overall was irksome and not one we will make the mistake of repeating.
