Best front of house staff……ever.
The Vanderbilt is ideally located for exploring London, right next to Gloucester street tube station, and is exactly what you’d expect from Radisson Blu hotel, immaculately clean, the rooms without being huge are big enough, the beds are very comfortable with the best pillows ever, the one down side was when we walked into the room there was a strong smell of drains, but with a full schedule ahead of us we hoped it was temporary and carried on with the trip. Upon returning to the hotel at 11:15pm we went to the bar only to be told the bar was closed, we were not offered the opportunity to have a drink as hotel guests, which seemed usual ? The breakfast at the hotel was superb and set us up for the day. I’ve stayed in a lot of Radisson Blu hotels and this one did not disappoint, except for the drain smell, which was even worse upon our return in the evening, we did report this to the hotel staff in the morning and they seemed genuinely shocked by it. The most stand out part of the visit to the hotel was the front of house reception staff, Stephanie and Janet who were two extremely pleasant, polite and helpful young ladies, and a credit to the hotel. Would I stay here again…..definitely, despite to drains which I’m sure would be a temporary issue and not enough to spoil our visit.

In London, you have a lot of options for places to stay—you are spoilt for choice. Yet, time and time again, we always return to this lovely hotel. Why? The location is central and close to my favorite museums, like the V&A 😍. The rooms are well appointed with form mattresses and crisp linens. The entire hotel is clean and constantly being cleaned. The food. Hotel food often appears as an afterthought but not here. Don’t miss their breakfast buffet. It’s epic and the quality of food and service is tip top. Last—what really makes a hotel shine is its staff. People make the experience. Staff are well trained and go the extra mile. Ruth checked us in and saw we were weary from a long journey and immediately got us an early check in and even went to get us coffee. Similarly, Vinayak in the dining room also went above and beyond for us on more than one occasion. Vinayak and Ruth are true hospitality professionals and it’s because of staff like them that we are so loyal to this hotel.

If you are planning a trip to London, you should really make this your hotel of choice. The staff is amazing, they are friendly, curious and professional! we had a medical emergency (off hotel property) while visiting London, the staff told us what hospital to go to, made every attempt to assist us and make the rest of our stay as easy as possible. Also, go and see Cecelia who runs the morning breakfast! She is amazing, gives the best service, and cares about the satisfaction of her customers! the hotel is just really great!
Be the first to ReplyA great place to stay!
The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful, and you will feel welcome here. Their restaurant is excellent, and they serve a hearty and delicious breakfast buffet. It is also in a convenient location very close to the Tube, museums, and shops. This is an older building, and the layout of the floors can sometimes be a little difficult to navigate with big bags (there is an elevator, but for some of the rooms you have to use some steps to get there after you reach your floor). Otherwise the rooms are comfortable and functional, and the staff do a good job looking after things. It is a great place to stay.
Be the first to ReplyOne Night Stay- Dissapointing
There was a terrible drain like smell in the room, (306). In addition the double bed mattress was too large for the two single beds pushed together to make the bigger bed. They did not meet in the middle which left a foot long space between them. This meant there was a big dip all the way down the middle of the mattress. This was not discovered until late at night on returning from our night out. Reported both on check out the next morning and while a breakfast was offered, we could not accept and it did not make up for a disappointing stay.
Be the first to ReplyAverage experience but perfect location
We stayed here for just one night as we were attending an event at the Natural history museum at night. This hotel is perfectly situated for the museum. We were lucky to also get street parking on a yellow line after 6.30pm though the parking bays run from 10pm to 8.30am. The staff who checked us in and checked us out were polite and friendly and we were given a room upgrade which included robe and slippers. The room was dated and needs improvements especially the bathroom with large cracks in the sink, stains on the floor by the toilet and more thorough cleaning as there were hairs in the bath. The floors make creaking noises and the walls are very thin you can clearly hear the people next door. You can also hear the traffic passing as our room was facing the street on the ground floor. However, the bed and pillows were super comfortable.
Be the first to ReplyComfortable and well located
The room and the bathroom were spacious. The beds were super comfy with enough pillows. The hot water was really hot and the water pressure was strong. The room we had was on the main road, but we were not bothered by any noise from the cars on the street or people on the sidewalk. The hairdryer didn't work on the first morning there. I put in a call to the front desk and the issue was solved by a replacement within a half an hour of my call. Breakfast was plentiful and good. The a la carte items were a nice addition. Every staff member that we interacted with was welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. It seems as if the room was only partially renovated. The beds/bedding was new, but the carpets, curtains, and desk could use an upgrade. The safe in the room did not work.
Be the first to ReplyA pleasant stay in London
The hotel location is convenient, staff very helpful, good value for money. We had a pleasant stay in London. The hotel has good facilities and the staff is very courteous. Only note, the pillow selection could be improved to provide a better quality of sleep
Be the first to ReplyTerrible Terrible Hotel!
We booked to stay at the Radisson Vanderbilt as we were at the Albert Hall for a concert. The check in staff were very welcoming and we asked for a quiet room. Unfortunately, the first room was road facing and due to the older nature of the building you could hear everyone talking and walking on the squeaky floorboards along the corridor so we asked to be moved. The second room had what can only be described as an aircraft engine sized air con unit directly outside the window so there was a constant hum in the room. The third offering was equally noisy albeit with a smaller aircon unit outside. At the 4th attempt we settled on a room at the top of the hotel away from everyone with it’s own corridor. On returning from our concert, as soon as we entered our room there was an overpowering strong smell of "smoke". We called the Duty Manager who agreed with us. We told him we couldn’t possibly sleep there and wanted to leave the hotel. We subsequently spent over an hour in the hotel reception going round in circles regarding the refund for our room. The night staff were very unhelpful, deliberately obstructive, and rude. It was also very late by this point. So eventually after resorting to phoning the Radisson main helpline twice, the Duty Manager gave us our refund and we left the hotel. We lodged a complaint with Radisson regarding the way in which we were treated and of course more importantly how anyone was able to access and smoke in our room! The hotel is also a non-smoking building. We did not receive any email confirmation of our complaint as promised so resorted to contacting via social media to which we received quite a standard reply without dealing with any of our issues. So, despite asking for this to be escalated appropriately, no one has either telephoned us or responded to the serious nature of our complaint. Therefore, we shall never use this hotel chain ever again. Clearly, they don’t seem to care about their customers and as such don’t deserve our business.

Room did not have any drawer storage space. Old furnishing. Old tired rug. Hotel need major update. Service was not unfriendly but at the same time not friendly. Location was great, one block from underground.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent hotel in great location
This hotel is in a great location and easily accessible to a tube station. Coffee shops and restaurants are all around the area as well. Consistent with Radisson properties The staff was very welcoming and the service at the bar was impeccable.
Be the first to ReplyWouldn’t recommend.
To start with check in.. we waited over an hour for our room to be ready . The carpet in our room was disgusting. There were stains all over the carpet and on headboard as well. I had to contact reception for some slippers because it was uncomfortable to walk around barefoot. We had separate beds and when I saw space between them I almost threw up. It was filthy . Right outside the widow there was some kind of ventilation shaft and it was really noisy. There was fridge in the wardrobe so there was almost no space for our clothes. The water pressure in the shower was weak so it took a lot of time to take a shower. But to not be only negative there are some positive things about this hotel . Bed sheets were clean and bathroom was also clean. There was a coffee machine with couple of capsules (not sure if it was free). Also couple of tea bags were available. I highly appreciate one european socket . Location was super . 3 min walk - tesco, underground station, pizza express etc. And staff was kind , helpful, communicative and all those positive things:).
Be the first to ReplySmall rooms, bad customer service and personal property damaged.
Not one to normally leave a review but feel it is necessary. I was staying for the weekend with my partner attending an event at the Royal Albert Hall. My parents were also staying in a separate room. First impressions were good- friendly staff at check-in and nice entrance/foyer. Room was quite small and dated, but bathroom was nice. Room had plenty of useful items e.g. sewing kit, bath mat, iron/ironing board. I got woken up at 8am Saturday morning by loud renovations in the room next door- so loud and irritating that evening getting ready was infuriating. I complained to the front desk and they told me to pack up my things and I had the option of 2 rooms- one room was very cramped and the other similar to my first room. After choosing, I had to pack my bags and move them to the new room myself. Later on I noticed the furniture in the room was damaged/falling apart. Finally at check-out, we were able to leave our bags as we went for breakfast - my case was returned to me damaged (handle broken) and when I mentioned this to the member of staff, he said very insincerely "sorry" and that was that. My parents also had problems- no working shower the first morning and then we were informed that evening, despite mentioning the fault in the morning, that the shower had not been fixed. We needed to get ready for an event that evening so this was less than ideal. Finally told some time later it actually had been fixed- faff yet again. No complimentary breakfasts offered or refund given for so much inconvenience. Considering we paid a lot of money for this "experience" I'm absolutely shocked- had MUCH better stays in lower budget hotels- wouldn't bother wasting your money.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Fish & Chips and Excellent Service
I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the fish and chips in the restaurant. They were cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. I also wanted to compliment the excellent service provided by Pui. She was attentive, friendly, and made our dining experience all the more enjoyable. Thank you for a wonderful meal!
Be the first to Replynice hotel, poor breakfast
My daughter and grandmother stayed at the hotel. the conection with the hotel prior to booking was realy annoying and frustrating. they dont realy comunicate well by mail. I askes specifically for walk in shower and they gave them a room with a bath. also very gloomy room. when they ask to be moved they were very kind and moved them to a much better room. Breakfast was of very poor selection and realy disapointing. Breakfast is such an important part of a vacation so why not make a little effort to make breakfast a nice experiance for your guests? so to summarize- nice hotel, good location neer tube, but much room for improvement.
Be the first to ReplyA very disruptive stay
Too difficult to get a taxi or Uber at this location. Too many new staff being trained. Made the experience uncomfortable at checkin and at breakfast. Bad service at breakfast. Internet is not reliable and cuts out a lot. I had to go to another location to work on the computer. Hotel overpriced for the value.
Be the first to ReplyLovely hotel with helpful staff
Hotel room was lovely, a good size and v comfortable. The staff are v helpful. The room heating is not the best and it felt a bit cool, also the bathroom was a bit on the small size. Hotel is ideally located for the Royal Albert Hall venue
Be the first to ReplyTurned away on arrival - poor show
We booked this hotel months ago. It was chosen because it was walking distance form all the venues we wanted to visit. We were very disappointed to be turned away from a four star hotel on arrival because "the government has taken over this hotel". We were booked into another Radisson two miles away which was far from ideal given tube line closures. It would not have been our choice but we were prepaid.
Be the first to ReplyJust don’t
I booked this hotel as it was very close to where my son was studying. We arrived after a very long and delayed flight to find we had been kicked out of the hotel due to a government take over. I was not given notice, despite their claims of an email. They staff was rude and unprofessional. They did put me in another hotel but to get to it was a nightmare. They didn’t Ben have the courtesy to ask my driver to wait to move me to the new hotel. If you are going to cancel a reservation you might want to be sure the customer is aware and knows where they should go. The new hotel staff was a challenge to deal with because they didn’t want to pay for my taxi, as promised by the first hotel. I have never been so poorly treated and would never recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyStole money from a Suicide Prevention Charity
We had tried to resolve our issue this morning with the deputy manager at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Vanderbilt Hotel, but alas that wasn’t possible, hence my email to yourself. Just to give you some background on events. We are a small family run suicide prevention charity based in Hampshire, and we formed in the wake of my late brother Josh, who sadly took his own life in 2020. We had the honour of being shortlisted for an award at the British Insurance Awards nearby on Wednesday evening( July 6th). We arrived at your hotel above at around 4pm on Wednesday, a hotel which we chose for its convenient location to the venue. We were met at reception, asked to confirm our names and the length of our stay which we did. To our horror, we were then told in a nonchalant way that your hotel was closed and that we had been relocated to a sister hotel. Several other individuals that arrived at a similar time to us for check in were spun the same line. When we challenged why we hadn’t been notified prior to our arrival, we were told that the hotel had tried to let us know but didn’t have a contact mobile number or email address for us! Reception ordered a taxi for us at their expense and sent us on our way on what we were told would be a 10 minute journey. We eventually arrived at the sister hotel some 75 minutes later. On arrival at the sister hotel, the receptionist asked us to confirm the mobile number and email address that they had for us on the system. It therefore seems strange that the original hotel didn’t have these details? Bearing in mind we are a small charity, and every penny counts to us, we were then faced with three taxi rides that we didn’t anticipate, all at the expense of our charity. The receptionist at the sister hotel spoke to her line manager at approximately 18.00 on 6th July and he agreed that as a gesture of goodwill, he would reimburse the costs of the three unplanned taxi rides (the sister Hotel to The Royal Albert Hall, The Royal Albert Hall to the sister hotel return journey and finally the sister hotel to collect our car from our reserved parking space. The parking and venue were both convenient to the original hotel that we had booked, so none of those expenses would have been incurred. To say that were are disappointed by the attitude of such a huge hotel chain like Radisson is an understatement. Although in comparison, the three combined taxi fares (£47.64) may not seem as a significant amount, but to our charity it is. I would kindly ask that you reimburse the £ 47.64 back into our account as a goodwill gesture.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Management
We have been planning a father and daughter get away to London for a long time. I booked a non refundable room and the night before we were to check in I tested positive for Covid. The hotel only charged us for one night. I think this was very fair due the the circumstances and happy with the outcome.
Be the first to Replytransferred to different hotel at last minute
This hotel was rented out for some sort of government need so a few weeks before our travel we were told we would be put at their sister hotel - which was a 5 star hotel in Mayfair, the richest part of London. Well it seemed like that would be a fair compromise but unfortunately we did not have a good experience at the fancy hotel. We were a group of university students on a study abroad trip and I suppose they are used to only having posh people stay at their hotel. We were not treated very nicely by the staff, frequently questioned as to whether or not we were really guests at the hotel, and just felt very out of place the whole time, not to mention struggling to find affordable places to eat nearby. We were glad to finally check out and move on to our next destination. Overall I would not recommend booking this hotel because it seems also based on previous reviews that we are not the only ones this has happened to - so unless you want to actually book a random hotel that is not of your choice, don't book with this one!
Be the first to Replydont fall for this scam
we booked into Radisson Blu Van Debilt in South Kensington. When we got there , they pretended to check us in and then told us we were being transferred to a sister hotel. This took another hour and a half and we were checked into a cheaper hotel. They know we were coming and knew the hotel was let to the Goverment. Unbelievable lies from a top hotel chain.
Be the first to ReplyAlways love our stay here
We always stay at this hotel everytime we visit London because of the great location lovely staff, amazing breakfast and room size. We enjoy drinks at the bar and the close proximity to the tube station on the straight tube line from kings cross
Be the first to ReplyGreat location and breakfast, but unhappy otherwise
I stayed here for four nights in August 2021 and I will divide the experience into pros and cons.
Pros:
Fantastic location. Gloucester Road Station is on the corner across the road about 30 seconds walk from the front of the hotel, which made it handy for us to jump on the Piccadilly line. It was also a reasonable walk (5-10 mins) to the Natural History Museum, Science Museum, V&A and South Kensington. In about 20 minutes you could walk to Harrods.
Food was delicious. Buffet breakfast served each morning with the same choice of hot and cold servings. Tastier than your average buffet.
Restaurant staff were very pleasant. They were very welcoming and smiley.
Common spaces at the front (reception, bar and dining area) were very well decorated.
Cons:
We were very disappointed with our room. It looked out onto the side street which was a pleasant enough view, but the room itself was tatty and tired. It’s an old, ornate building, but the room had peeling wallpaper, worn out carpet and tired furniture - it wasn’t old-world ‘charming’.
We were quite concerned about cleanliness. We discovered on our first night that a hair tie full of hair was left in the wall insert in the shower, which was disgusting. We left a note for housekeeping the next morning to request it be removed, but it was still there later that evening - ironically, our note had been tidied away. The fridge was also unclean, and there was dust in various places. It feels as though only the bins are emptied, the bed is made and the towels are replaced - everything else is untouched. Despite a door hanger to say our room was cleaned each day we returned, I remained skeptical.
We put the ‘do not disturb’ sign on when we went for breakfast one morning, and came back to find the housekeeping had been in. This is unacceptable, rendering the sign useless.
Staff on reception were dour. There was no greeting when leaving and returning each day, which made it feel very unfriendly.
All in all, it was disappointing for a Radisson Blu hotel. We had expected better, and would stay in this area again but not at this hotel.
