😍 5/5 - Breakfast with a Mexican twist

Truth be told, my wife and I decided to have breakfast at Nana for two reasons: (1) I read where Nana's version of my favorite breakfast item, Eggs Benedict, was rated one of the best in Chicago and (2) the restaurant at 3267 South Halsted Street in Bridgeport is open from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. As a 79-year-old retiree, I don't relish getting up for breakfast at 7 a.m. Nana is well known on the South Side for its American and Mexican comfort food. I was looking forward to its version of Eggs Benedict, called Nanadict. And I wasn't disappointed. It's made with house-made ropes, a traditional Mexican dish that looks like an unusually thick tortilla with vegetables and meat toppings, poached eggs, poblano cream sauce and chorizo, a type of pork sausage, and served with greens and home fries. Not the traditional Eggs Benedict with English muffins, Canadian bacon and hollandaise sauce. But Nanadict was something different, tasty and well prepared. Meanwhile, my wife also sampled something different, pina colada French toast with brioche, coconut/pineapple glaze and toasted coconut. She was delighted. If you prefer something more traditional, the All-American breakfast of two scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, home fries, greens and toast is sure to satisfy. Breakfast at Nana at 10 o'clock in the morning was worth the trip.
