A Spicy Encounter at Nari
My recent experience at Nari was unfortunately marred by a series of unfortunate events and an unexpected lack of professionalism from the management, particularly from the manager, Katie. Upon arrival, there was a hiccup with my reservation; the staff couldn't locate it despite my confirmation. Nevertheless, I was promptly seated as there were available tables. This hiccup was forgivable, considering the restaurant had open spots and managed to accommodate me. However, the real disappointment came later when I discovered a no-show charge on my account. Confused and rightfully frustrated, I promptly contacted the restaurant to address the error. To my surprise, instead of a genuine apology or an effort to rectify the situation, I received a response from the manager, Katie, that was nothing short of unprofessional. In my reply, I clarified that I did visit the restaurant on the specified day but noted that the food was too spicy for my taste. Rather than acknowledging the inconvenience or attempting to resolve the issue, Katie's response was shockingly dismissive. She informed me that they didn't want me back because I supposedly "don't appreciate Thai spices." This kind of response is not only unprofessional but also lacks the basic courtesy one would expect from a customer service representative. While taste preferences may vary, the customer's experience and feedback should be handled with tact and consideration. Dismissing a customer for expressing a personal preference is not the hallmark of a customer-centric establishment. Regrettably, the unfortunate incident overshadowed any positive aspects the restaurant might have offered. It's disheartening to encounter such a lack of professionalism from a manager, and it certainly leaves a lasting negative impression. I would caution potential diners to be wary of Nari until they address their customer service issues and adopt a more customer-friendly approach.

I love tasting menus but I am sensitive to heat, but got the chef's menu anyway, and I found enough to eat and to delight in. The menu seemed to be a little of everything, and we particularly loved the scallops (spicy but manageable if you leave just a trace of the sauce on), the hog jowl (delicious!) and squid, and the cabbage, which was richly umami with a bit of a char on it. Neither of us could eat the pork chop dish, but we both loved the savitri cocktail. For dessert we got to share a sort of strawberry and tapioca pearl dish and pandan parfait, which looked like a stick of green butter but tasted like caramel and vanilla and bliss. Both desserts were served with flavorless and gritty ice which we weren't crazy about but the pandan parfait made up for it. I am both very very glad we went because it was a special evening but probably wouldn't go again because I would rather go on a different and slightly less spicy and icy adventure.

Thai food is often spicey hot and Nari does not disappoint. However, if you don’t like hot food, you are best to go elsewhere. Even if you do like hot food, you may want to go elsewhere for several reasons. While the service was excellent, the noise level (music and other people) was quite high so that conversations were sometimes difficult. The menu was surprisingly limited for a one star Michelin restaurant. We (a party of four) had four appetizers and two main courses, which was 35% of the total offerings.

We enjoyed every aspect of Nari. The atmosphere was upscale without being stuffy and the service was friendly, professional, and helpful. Their cocktail menu was creative and the few we ordered were delicious. Finally, the food was outstanding; attractively plated and delicious. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyRushed service, same flavors equally no flavors
The food came out so fast it was concerning. Whole branzino, stone fruit salad, croquettes, hanachi with chili sauce poured over it. Stone fruit salad was spicy and had overwhelming amount of vinegar. No balance. All dishes tasted the same with an enormous amount of chili powder. I don't get it.

The ambiance is gorgeous and the staff and service very attentive and helpful. We did the chef’s choice which is 10 dishes in total. Overall, we felt the chef was trying to hard to give unique or unusual flavours to the extent that the deliciousness and authenticity that should have been there was not. Overall, we went expecting the highest caliber of food and a lot of wows. Instead it was pleasant. Pleasant at wow prices. I would choose a different place

First class service and excellent food in a relaxed setting. A must is the gaeng som, it is worth going for this alone. Then the lamb shank, the Brussels sprouts with xo, the squid.

We decided to try this restaurant as it was attached to the hotel. I read many good reviews - the bar area is first come - so we went early to the bar as reservations are booked way in advance. Our waitress was superb. Since we really couldn't decipher the menu, never having tried Thai food, our waitress guided us through based on our tolerance for spice. Everything she recommended was terrific and she even suggested drinks based on our order. Loved our experience and dinner.

My husband said "Outta sight flavors. Perfect heat". Our friend's contribution to the one of the 6 dishes we ordered was squid & pork jowl served with sticky rice. Green curry chicken breast was so tender. We also ordered a vegetarian dish to bring home to our friend's wife who was not able to join us for dinner. Please look at the photos for more descriptions. This place would be my FIRST place to dine at whenever I re-visit SF again!

First of all, this is a very nice restaurant, highly ranked among San Francisco choices. It has a sophisticated ambiance, a world class wait staff, and a comprehensive wine list. However, the two First Course dishes we ordered completely ruined our Second Course choice! The Saeng Wah (lightly poached prawns) was so spicy that it numbed my entire mouth. The Som Tum Mamuang (mango salad) was completely overwhelmed by it's vinegar dressing to the point that even the cashews had no flavor of their own. Both taste sensations lasted well past the middle of our Gaeng Rawaeng Muan (moulade of chicken) plate. Given the age spread of the other patrons, I'm surprised levels of spiciness was not offered by this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyNari - Great Thai food and Service
Ordered Som ($15), Suwan ($15), Saeng Wah ($26), Squid and Jowl ($25), Pad Priking Gai ($26), Gaeng Kua Pla ($42), Gaeng Rawaeng Muan ($40), Wan Yen ($10.75). Was excellent food and service. This is a highly rated restaurant located in the Hotel Kabuki and would certainly visit again and recommend.

It is not your typical Thai restaurant, that is for sure. It is a very attractive restaurant with impeccable service. The wine list is fantastic - you really need specialty wines from Germany, or Alsace Lorraine to go with Thai food. They have an extensive selection of fine European wines. The restaurant fills up quickly every night so make a reservation to be sure you will be seated. Highly recommended - especially for foodies.
