Had a chance to visit Nobu for a friend's birthday and overall it was an okay experience. Given how famous Nobu is I was excited to try it, and worth trying once if you want the experience. This place is certainly fancy and ambiance was nice. Service was also top notch and folks did come back to check in on us multiple times. Once we were seated of course I was excited to try the food. We tried: * yellowtail sashimi - this was delicious and buttery, you could tell the fish was really fresh *Salmon sashimi - this came with a really yummy sauce that I really enjoyed *mushroom soup - this was light and refreshing but nothing spectacular * rock shrimp tempura with aioli sauce - this was yummy and the quality of shrimp was good. However nothing I haven't had before * miso cod - this was really yummy and well made, everyone enjoyed this * seabass tacos - these were extremely small but they were tasty, but I wouldn't say worth $10/taco * strip steak with veggies - this was really yummy and well made, our group gobbled this up! * brussel sprouts - this was yummy and enjoyed how crispy they were *shrimp tempura roll - this was yummy and standard, enjoyed this though *chocolate cake with matcha ice cream - this was yummy and there was gooey chocolate coming out of the cake which made it fun. Matcha ice cream had strong flavor so get if you enjoy matcha Overall decent experience!

Ordered a tea set for 3 and nobu does a great job with their ambience and customer service. I loved every dish the came out and really enjoyed pairing it with the tea. I didn't care too much about the dessert jelly, but can definitely see others enjoying it. The downside to the tea set is that there isn't enough to make you full. The tea set here really is a snack, not a meal.

Beautiful food, beautiful restaurant, but I agree with the other reviews about it being overpriced. We got the $150 omakase and left still hungry.

WOW! We came on a Friday with no reservation and were seated immediately at the sushi bar. The lychee martinis are a must! The sushi bar was amazing!! I am new to sashimi and our chef was amazing in creating dishes for us to try. The servers were amazing, and the ambience was incredible. Worth every penny.

Amazing food, really enjoyed the yellowtail and salmon cold dishes. Would recommend sitting at the sushi bar and watching the chefs prepare the food. Can't wait to come back and try more of their food soon.
Be the first to ReplyI was referred to Nobu in Las Vegas.
I just never went, until now. The original Iron Chef Japan, Masaharu Morimoto was an apprentice in New York under Nobu Matsuhisa. And I know Morimoto is currently at Morimoto Napa right now. I'm aware, that some people out there from New Jersey flew to Vegas for a week to be at Morimoto Las Vegas. I liked some of the movies from Robert De Niro. Everybody knows about the Nobu at Caesars Palace. Since I'm catching up on a lot of work here, I wanted to get a reservation in Palo Alto. I didn't know reservations required a bank card or credit card and a charge incur for no-shows. I used a debit card this time, and it went through. There's nothing inexpensive about this business lunch. It's on another echelon. I always wanted to be here. I wouldn't take just anybody here. I must say the neighborhood is quite good. I didn't think some angel investors would frequent here, but they do. This is my first time here. It was somewhat tight in there again. I know omakase is the newest trend, but I like to choose my selection. I started out with their famous Black Cod with Miso. Then I went in with the nigiri. Bigeye Tuna, Fluke, Snapper, Ikura, and Tamago. The Tamago was like a cloud, perfectly executed. Now this is a sushi spread. Can't forget about dessert. Bento Box. Valrhona Dark Chocolate Souffle Cake, Imperial Matcha Gelato, and Fresh Berries. That Souffle was the best Souffle I ever had. I also knew I had to get the Black Orchid Tea, it had a very distinct floral note. Everything was spectacular. This definitely not going to be my last time here.

I've always wanted to try Nobu and I finally decided to try it for my birthday dinner. The service was beyond perfect. Andy was our waiter and he was very attentive the entire night and wow the presentation of the menu on his behalf was impressive especially because it was our first visit here. Marcos was also very attentive with removing plates and making room for other dishes, our water glasses were never empty! I do have to say that I am very thankful for Curtis for making my birthday night extra special with the amazing drinks! Thank you Nobu Palo Alto, we will definitely be back again! Can't wait to rave about you to fam and friends! Lyz
Be the first to ReplyPhenomenal experience at Nobu Palo Alto! Fantastic FOH team.
Really wish I remembered our servers name. He was amazing! As were the runners and gal who reset the table after a few courses had come through. Very accommodating after making a mistake on my part thinking my reservation was at 5:30 and arriving at 5:35, found out they were for 5pm. Thank you and sorry to the foh manager on that night that accepted us still! Lychee elderflower Martini! Not a martini guy. But this right here was amazing! Big shout out to the kitchen team! Chef Ryan, Marcus, Rahul, and John! This place is a wonderfully run operation from the curb to the foh and boh teams. You can really sense a special camaraderie happening here, be it you catch them before a service is due to begin to a fully packed floor , this whole team works with such beautiful chemistry and to watch that flow and see their success is something special everyone should experience at least once in a lifetime. Cheers to you Nobu Palo Alto! And here's to many more times we will spend together!

.. My favorite restaurant ever! We celebrated my boyfriend's birthday here (it was his first time going) and we went all out. Yes, the bill is hefty--but we were celebrating! We spent (with tip): $491.99, so hopefully everyone knows what they're getting themselves into. As you can tell from the business name--yes it is attached to a Nobu hotel. The ambiance is out of this world! To fit with the Silicon Valley feel, it is where Japanese art meets modern, and the space feels very open, modern, and overall very clean. I know I have to stay at the hotel at some point, but the restaurant is the main focus--always! The server asked if there were any allergies at the table, and my boyfriend is actually allergic to most fish except salmon. Despite this, our server was super accommodating and there's still a wide variety of options if you have a fish allergy! However, if I come here again without my boyfriend--I have to have the black cod with miso again. So yummy! What we ordered: Rock Shrimp tempura with Creamy Spicy Sauce, Jidori Chicken Donburi, some type of salmon roll (special order; recommendation from the server), A5 wagyu, Malibu burgers, Lobster Ceviche, Wagyu tacos, some type of Salmon Sashimi, Lychee & Elderflower Martini, and some other alcoholic drink (my boyfriend got it, I cannot remember for the life of me, sorry!) What we won't get again: Jidori Chicken Donburi and Lobster Ceviche. Hard pass! The donburi dish was mostly a huge bed of rice, not quite worth the cost. The lobster ceviche was very small, and came with a whole cherry tomato and raw onions which aren't my favorite. I felt like I wasn't getting my money's worth on these items. They were decent, but maybe not for my tastebuds or wallet. What we will get again: EVERYTHING ELSE! (Hopefully + the black cod miso, but only for me! LOL) Holy cow! You really cannot go wrong with the Rock Shrimp Tempura, and the A5 Wagyu show with the flame is such a treat. Perfectly cooked, and you don't need a huge portion of meat to really savor it. Even the A5 wagyu tacos--they're tiny, but oh so good! I feel like the attention to the flavors and portions makes for such a wonderful experience. This being my second time here, I leave feeling perfectly full and not overly stuffed. The craziest part about this restaurant? You almost don't want to eat anything afterwards because the meal is so good and satisfying here. I feel like there is something on the menu for everyone, which makes this place very special. In fact, I saw Grandparents with their grandchildren here--and they looked like they were enjoying everything. Nobu, you are truly a special restaurant! I need to be back here. I love the area and the overall vibe this restaurant has to offer.

It pains me to write this review, but after 3 visits that failed to meet expectations, I feel I must. Not to warn other diners of the many mishaps that occurred, but to send a wake up call to the management at Nobu Palo Alto. We have dined at Nobu restaurants from Malibu to Chicago with each visit meeting or exceeding expectations. Sadly, tonight was our third failed attempt after many wonderful meals there. It was the "let's try it again" visit with hopes of things being improved, you know, the one that would have us coming back for more. Sadly, this may be our last. One of our family members has a very specific allergy and one does not eat raw. Because of these dietary issues, we order separately and are unable to dine Nobu family style. In the past, this has never been a problem at any Nobu location. The past two visits, the non raw eater has had to wait up to 20 additional minutes for his meal to arrive while the rest of our party sits there and waits. Tonight, the non raw eater again had to wait 25 minutes for his beef dish. Once the beef entree was brought to the table, the dish was cold and over cooked. The temperature requested for the beef dish was medium. The beef was cooked through, barely was it even pink. Tonight was actually a quiet birthday celebration, I did not complain about my very expensive uni from Hokkaido Japan arriving at the table at an undesirable temperature, soggy seaweed wrap, and congealed. This was rather disappointing as it is usually worth the high price. While it seems things are not quite right in the kitchen, it is management who may be at the root of the problem in Palo Alto. Two visits ago, we had to call a manager in for very similar issues. After a brief discussion, he realized the problem and credited us for the items that were sub-par. Tonight, the manager came to our table and I tired to explain to him that this was not our first or second visit, it was closer to our 20th visit. This manager was off putting and simply did not care about the diners sitting in his restaurant. We wanted to have a nice meal to celebrate a milestone birthday and decided to give Nobu another chance. Again, we were disappointed. WIth so many excellent sushi restaurants in the Bay Area, we will likely save our Nobu visits for Malibu or other out of town destination. Terribly disappointing...

Exceptional experience thanks to the waitress; very attentive to our needs. Great ambience; the restaurant has an appealing simplistic decor that gives off the vibe you're at an exclusive restaurant. We sat outside at the patio and it was very spacious and felt intimate. Definitely a vibe. FOOD- Shishito Peppers: great appetizer- Yellowtail sashimi jalapeño: a classic starter - appreciate the clean plating- Wagyu & lobster taco: absolutely AMAZING. Meat was juicy, melted in my mouth and the shell was like a crispy wonton. Lobster taco was actually my favorite. Very small but delicious. - Toro Truffle topped with Caviar: felt like the sauce was a bit overpowering but still a solid dish. DESSERT- Date cake: a MUST-TRY for dessert. Still dreaming about this cake. - Banana soy toban: if you're a fan of banana, this dessert is perfect for you. It includes soy caramelized banana, candied pecan, Malaga gelato DRINKS- Jaded: delicious, spicy- Mia Margarita: hint of spice- Grand Cordon: solid cocktail - Lyre liar: an intriguing mocktail; very deliciousOverall, great location and impeccable staff and service. Not a place to dine every day but worth the treat for a special occasion!

Usually it's pretty booked. I came on a Friday 8:30 it was really packed. I was seated 15 minutes after my reservation no biggy the food and service made up for it. We were seated outside. There are heaters and cozy blankets. It is by the street and we were bothered by someone walking so if you want more intimate sit inside. John W. was our waiter and an amazing waiter. I had the lobster honey truffle, 2 orders of sushi, the mango cocktail and white chocolate Namelaka because it's bulking season. The sushi was ok like 3/5 but the rest was quite good. Service was great, but I think this has to be the most boring looking Nobu ever...

Be the first to ReplyI loved it.
If you're looking for a smooth drink as a female, the best drink is the Grapefruit on the Rocks. If you're looking for a strong drink as a male the best drink for you is the Oni Negroni. (Very strong, similar to an Old Fashioned)My friend and I ordered plenty & I think we over did it by probably two items. I was really full after we received our roasted cauliflower. Here is the order of how our food was delivered:1. New Style Shashimi - Salmon + Oni Negroni2. Scallops with Honey Glazed Sauce+ Grapefruit on the Rocks3. Miso Soups4. Seafood Ceviche5. Roasted Cauliflower with Jalapeño Salsa6. Jidori Chicken with Teriyaki Sauce7. Ribeye with Truffle Butter SauceAmbiance is sophisticated, very well kept restaurant. We had our reservations at 5:00PM & that was perfect because parking is free after that time.
Be the first to ReplyDecent food, but it's hard for a place like this to live up
Decent food, but it's hard for a place like this to live up to its expectations. the omakase was $175pp and was a bit of a let down. I was expecting something sushi forward but ended up eating steak with chopsticks. I'd return for the sushi but that is all. the steak was just ok and the tempura was not good. the sushi on the other hand was delicious! expect things loaded with toppings and sauces, these are not your classic pieces of sushi. Overall ambiance was ok, there was one dish that came out sizzling which ended up filling the entire room with smoke. it was unpleasant but luckily only a few people ordered it while we were there. Service was also ok, they seemed rushed but everyone was nice.

Started off with a 3 star rating but ended with a solid 4 star rating. We had reservations but still had to wait over 30 min for our table, we reserved so that it'll be ready by the time we get there but pass 30 minutes, the manager approached us and noticed our table was ready and mentioned first rounds of drinks and appetizer will be on the house, and that jsut boosted the rating for excellent consideration of our wait time. Appreciate the service. And the food was good, solid 4 out of 5. Kinda hyped to me but it was all good. Started with the yellowtail Jalapeños, highly recommended along with the crispy rice tuna! Both 10 out of 10. The ribeye with truffle butter was okay, didn't taste any truffle, more of a sweet butter teriyaki like glaze. The rolls and nigiri was all fresh. Really liked the house special

Just came for lunch on a Sat afternoon, wasn't that busy but told only sushi bar was available, that's fine, we like sushi bar just fine but not understand table was not offer when they were half available. We ate at several diff Nobu around the world over the years, at this calibrate and price point restaurant, some expectation was pre-set. Overall, this one is better than some other Nobu, the toro caviar was good but Napa's Marimoto equivalent was better. The best for us was the tai agave, the sweet, the heat and the agave dressing balanced very well. Nigiri was dressed well too especially the marguro. Food was mostly very good. However, the wagyu dumpling not only its expensive but also embarrassed, see the picture, all 3 dumpling skin were rip open. At this calibrate restaurant, it's downright unacceptable, juice will all run out. You go to Ding Tai Fung, their much thinner skin doesn't break. This need to improve. The not so good are service, it's not bad but at this level we would expect higher quality, attention, etc. Otherwise how do you justify the price. While I like here and will be back, I think Jin Sho on California is little bit better.

We came as a party of 5 on a Tuesday night with reservations. This was my first time at a Nobu establishment, and I can finally say that it is definitely worth the hype! The experience we had was exceptional. Our server (whose name I never got - shame on me!) was an excellent young woman who told us that she had been working there since their opening night six years ago. She was very well-versed and definitely knew what she was recommending. This is the place to go to if you are with a group! Greatly-portioned servings that are meant for sharing - and fantastic taste! We started with edamame, scallops with jalapeno salsa, uni and oyster shooters, and sashimi tacos (lobster, crab, Japanese wagyu) - all of which were amazing. Our entrees (still shared) included jidori chicken, prime New York steak, Chilean seabass, and lobster with honey truffle aioli. Very tasty, very beautiful presentation, and everything came out at a reasonable pace.My favorite - the dessert (and the only one I got to take photos of)! We got the bento box, honey pistachio semi freddo, date cake, and assorted mochi. We also got some licorice wine on top of a thousand other drinks and cocktails that I can't remember but know enough to know that they were deliciously paired, and our experience could not have been any better.5/5 stars!
Be the first to ReplyFood was great, wait staff and seating were not.
We do sushi quite a bit, so avoided it to a large degree. We got the following and overall the flavors and presentation were impressive.- Yellowtail Sashimi Jalapeno- Black Cod with Miso- Lobster with Honey Truffle Aioli- Ribeye with Truffle Butter Sauce- Wagyu Taco (not a standout)So why three stars? Well dining out at a restaurant like Nobu is about the whole experience. Service started out good, but the waiter ultimately disappeared and someone else took over because we called him over. Despite booking months in advance for a special occasion, we got put at a table near the outside entrance which was constantly used by wait staff (I mean used every few minutes). A cold breeze each time the door opened was not pleasant - we all needed jackets on for the whole meal. I'm surprised management isn't aware and hasn't resolved the issue. I suppose during summer it is not such an issue. Give it a go during summer :)
Be the first to ReplyThe ambiance was top notch.
The food was not as good as the price suggests. The seabass and the miso cod were both overcooked. Spicy Edamame was great, drinks were great.
Be the first to ReplyMe and my wife have always wanted to try it.
Were worried we would be disappointed or let down.We were neither disappointed, nor let down.Everything we had was amazing. The black cod with miso was so good. Thank you to our waiter and staff for making it a great evening!
