This is a Must Do in Lucerne - Best Wiener Schnitzel of All time
We did a 10 day trip through Switzerland including Geneva, Zermatt, Lucerne, and Zurich, and this was our best restaurant experience of the trip. And as the title suggests, the best Wiener Schnitzel we've ever had. The food and ambiance were incredible and special shout out to Eleni (our waitress) and Lucas (our host) who were just awesome people and made this experience very memorable for us. I'm also a big history fan and it's insane how many notable people have been there and historic events took place there. If you visit Lucerne, you have to go here.

One of the best experiences since I've been in Switzerland for the past 3 weeks. We were served by this lovely Greek lady. I regretted not asking for her name. She was amazing. We ordered escargot for starters, ravioli with morilles, beef stroganoff, the famous Veal schnitzel and chocolate mousse for dessert. Everything was FANTASTIC. The veal schnitzel is cooked in front of you in butter. Not for the faint hearted and any diet you're on, goes out the window. It was worth every calorie though. The portions are generous and we were so full by the end of the dinner. My boyfriend and I had a really lovely time and would definitely come back again the next time we are in Lucerne.

It started with my difficulty of finding anything about the menu for this restaurant online. I saw some pictures from other diners online and on the strength of the recommendation by Tripadvisor for this restaurant for fondue, decided to try it.
There was nothing remarkable about this restaurant. Sometimes establishments that are old and traditional are cozy. This one just looked dull and unkempt. The food was marginal, and the Wienerschnitzel, which was prepared at our table by our server, was completely unremarkable.
We’d had remarkable success with food over the course of our week in Switzerland, but with the Old Swiss House, our luck ran out.
A Disappointing Evening
Have been to The Old Swiss House several times and always enjoyed it. It has never been avant garde - indeed the menu never changes - but what they do has always been reliably well executed.
This time the service was not up to usual standards and we found dishes we have enjoyed previously rather salty. My wife even had several pieces of tough meat in her veal. The Swiss Chardonnay was good.
We found ourselves in a cramped spot - tight up against a glass cabinet full of antique claret jugs & decanters which slightly overhung the table and had a very bright and intense light. The glass was in grave need of a wash and the silver a good polish!
Perfection
My husband and I both grew up in Lucerne and we had been to the Old Swiss House many times during our youth and also when we lived in Lucerne. Many years have passed and yesterday, 3 December 2020, we returned to the Old Swiss House to celebrate Kurt‘s 75 B‘day. It was just wonderful. From the moment we walked in to the Restaurant right up to the moment we left. Friendly, accurate service. Delicious freshly prepared Schnitzel - a delight! Fresh dessert and a lovely surprise mini-gugelhopf B‘day cake! We will go again - hopefully very soon!
