Rich in history dating back 1800's
Beautiful old buildings line several blocks of this quaint area, along the way to the famous Sydney harbor Bridge, tons to see & do, including museums, shops and tons of eateries. Easy walk from Circular Quay and opera house
Be the first to ReplyGreat interesting tour
This area of Sydney has a very interesting and significant history. Very worthwhile tour and good shopping area also. It is located a short walk from the Circular Quay which is the hub for ferries and the rail/bus/train system.

My wife and I along with another couple recently stayed in Sydney before a cruise vacation. While there, we visited the Rocks. This area has lots of eateries, pubs, and shopping. They also have a market area where numerous local merchants set up to sell their very unique items. This is a great area to visit.

waiters were outstanting, miso soup a cut above the rest, the sashimi platter amazing, as was the prawn dumplings and scallops and tempura crayfish, beautiful meal

I visited here on a solo pub tour while the wife stayed in hotel with kids(she had a solo shopping tour the night before). I hopped off at the circular quay train station and walked a brief distance (5 mins) The old buildings especially the amazing pubs were a highlight as was the market that was on when I visited. I recommend walking all the way to opposite the Harbour View pub to find yourself under the harbour Bridge
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot for a walk
The Rocks are a great place for everyone - those interested in history, pub lovers, shoppers and walkers. It's an old part of the city and the first in which I've felt like I can u destiny the past of the city a bit better. Definitely worth a visit.
Be the first to ReplyA historical walk
Visited with my wife and Daughter after crossing the Sydney Harbor Bridge. A beautiful historical walk through the streets around old shipping warehouses, with a great sense of the early pioneers of Australia. A local food and craft market was on at the time, which provided lots of interesting local goods and foods. Plenty of shops and eateries too. My bought my wife some beautiful local jewelry and we had some delicious ice creams!

Great area to walk around and visit galleries, shops, cafes, bars and restaurants both through the daytime and into the evening.

Bustling area with restaurants, shops and galleries. We especially liked the outdoor market with quality clothing, jewelry and artwork. Varied architecture and views to the bridge, harbor and the Opera House.
Be the first to ReplyThis is One of the Oldest Settlements in Australia 🇦🇺
This is one of the oldest settlements in Australia 🇦🇺. Another thing there are restaurants, shops and hotels 🏨 too in the Rocks 🪨. Also there are two museums too . Lastly, it is a very charming area too .

The Rocks area is a must-see for all Sydney visitors. The shops, open-air restaurants and patios are perfect to enjoy the sights and sounds of the area around the harbor. (Sticky Candy Store was a highlight!)
Be the first to ReplyBadly needs maintenance.
We did not enjoy our stay at this hotel. On the positive side the location is great. Find a hotel near here and everything we were interested in was walkable. The staff were very helpful. The hotel is old and needs maintenance badly. The first room - a historical apartment - that we were assigned was damp and dank and we refused it. We moved into another similar room that had a very steep and narrow set of stairs to where we slept. There was no staff available to negotiate luggage up the steep narrow stairs. Downstairs was not sound proof from the conversations of those walking by. To get to this room we had to navigate up and down steps that filled with rain and flooded outside our door. The final straw was the condition of the bath room with the rusting sink and the large insect that inhabited our tub as we left. Not worthy of its rating. Needs work.

High ly recommendable to see the historic life of Sydney through this small neighbourhood, plenty of bars and restaurants. Nothing special to point out but pleasant enough to visit it and watch a new perspective of the Opera House and the harbour
Be the first to ReplyA Maze of History
Just behind / alongside the Cruise Terminal thsi series of narrow streets and buildings represent Sydney's history. It was well worth doing some reading before visiting to appreciate that history of the original Peoples through its use as a prison.
Be the first to ReplySydney's oldest surviving neighborhood
The Rocks is the oldest surviving neighborhood in Sydney. Most of the buildings are made of native sandstone, which is why it is called The Rocks. For many years, The Rocks was inhabited by sailors, ex-convicts and other down and outers. These days, The Rocks is full of nooks and crannies, with ancient pubs and trendy eateries. The Rocks is only a short walk from the center of Sydney.

It was enjoyable but if time is short you can skip it. I think the guide should have passed out headsets to everyone on the tour. It was hard to get all the information she was sharing.
Be the first to ReplyTerrific Area
When visiting Sydney, I recommend strolling through The Rocks neighborhood. The area is within walking distance to Sydney Harbor, the Quay, Harbor Bridge, and many waterfront restaurants and hotels. Back in the day, it was known as the brothel district. Historically, it is the site of the first European colony established when ships carrying convicts from England arrived. They named the area the “Rocks” because most of the buildings were made of sandstone. Sadly, the prisoner arrival in Australia resulted in displacement and mistreatment of the Aboriginal peoples. Not only did they suffer atrocities at the hands of the British, but many died of diseases brought over by the colonists such as smallpox, typhoid, diphtheria, and tuberculosis. Remnants of colonial days can be found here. Some of the oldest buildings can be found on George Street and Harrington Street. On George Street, you will also find the longest running Irish pub located at the Mercantile Hotel. Walk down the alleys and side streets and you are sure to come to cobblestone pathway. Stop at Cadman’s Cottage, the oldest residential building. So much to see, so little time.

Many quaint shops and nice eateries. Stayed in this area, ate at several places, and looked for souvenirs. Easy walking to Circular Quay or to the hop-on hop-off bus.
Be the first to Replylovey area for a stroll around
The rocks is a lovey place to stroll around its cobbled streets and visit some of the many bars and restaurants , there is a great atmosphere especially at weekends and one night we were there they even had a free movie night ( see photo), Absolutely should be on everyone's list of things to see when visiting the city , plan to spend the evening there as so much so to do
Be the first to ReplyHistoric Rocks - A Must Visit!
The Rocks has always remained a special place where I bring visitors whenever we have family or friends visit Sydney. Its history is seen in the cobbled stone laneways and buildings. It is quite different to the rest of modern building Sydney. Love coming here on the weekends when the markets are on and you can listen to live music and enjoy some different foods. There is a buzz and atmosphere which is quite lovely.
