Such a lovely and fun experience dining here! Overall from the food to the ambiance, was fantastic. I don't think I've had Japanese Italian cuisine before but have seen it here and there in the LA area. I do think there were some dishes that could have used improvement and I think the service fee that people mention can be off-putting to some.//CONTEXT//Came here as a party of two recently in Feb 2023. We made a reservation about a month beforehand and it was for a Tuesday so definitely book early if you want a Friday or Saturday reservation. Booking was done online//FOOD//The food was delicious! There was a lot of small "gifts" but honestly probably just part of the price and experience but it's 11-12 in total! I was extremely full after! Another comment is that there's a lot of truffle added to dishes but I didn't feel like it did anything, for example this truffle pomodoro pasta. I couldn't taste or smell any truffle, or the truffle on potatoes. Normally I feel like it enhances a dish but I just didn't get that here.* Chawanmushi with custard and caviar - this was pretty good! Mine wasn't hot and didn't have that normal umami flavor that chawanmushi normally makes me excited about. * Roasted artichoke with Meyer lemon: this was so good! It tasted like roasted/crispy squid!* Kampachi Crudo with Dashi Vinaigrette and Ume and Kumquat: this was so so good! The sauce felt like olive oil (I might be making that up) and the kumquat was so refreshing. * Plancha grilled Hokkaido Scallop: this was so tasty! The green sauce had a nice spicy Spanish kick* Cabbage and caviar and anchovy crisp: sorry I forget what this was but it was a pink cabbage with caviar. This was super bitter personally but I loved the caviar and anchovy crisps'* Roast potatoes with truffle: yummy potatoes and cooked to perfection but again didn't really taste the truffles at all * Pasta pomodoro with ume and truffle: ooof my favorite pasta! The noodles were Al dente and so perfect, loved the marinara sauce. But again for the truffle didn't think it added anything to it* Satsuki with uni and abalone: this was an additional add-on for $35 and was definitely worth it. This is super filling but was one of my favorite dishes! Rich and umami, every bite was so warming* Sea Bream with truffle and huckleberry and chicken aju: this cooked dish was perfection! Again the truffle didn't add anything but the aju was amazing, huckleberry was so unique! I've never had huckleberry before except in ice cream lol* Corn bread: delicious!* Goat cheese with focaccia: personally wasn't a fan of the cheese but I think goat cheese is acquired in taste* Yuzu sorbet and coconut milk: super tasty and a great palate cleanser* Panna Cotta: this texture was thick but I loved the rice cracker and taste!* Canadian chocolate//SERVICE//Our server was attentive and polite! Not overbearing or anything and friendly//PRICE//At the time of Feb 2023 it is $125 per person plus we did two $35 addons for the Satsuki dish, and like mentioned there's a 20% service charge which I felt was weird but they say it pays their workers and whatnot. But honestly I think they should bake this into their pre-fixe price because I can see people being super confused or annoyed by this. //OVERALL//I really enjoyed the entire experience here! Definitely could use a bit of refining for some dishes but loved it!
