I don't have enough great things to say about this place.
You definitely need to make a reservation in advance, as it's quite popular with locals and tourists a like.The service was great, we managed to order everything in our broken Italian. I had some delicious truffle gnocchi, and my boyfriend ordered steak. We agreed it was maybe the best steak we ever had. For dessert we had ricciarelli in a vanilla sauce, and the waitress even brought over some dessert wine we could have with it. My boyfriend and I agreed this was the highlight of our Italy trip, I still dream about it!

Amazing! We got the cacio e pepe, the carbonara, and pollo en fricassea. The pasta portions are generous and we almost canceled the chicken - thankfully we didn't! One of the best things we have had in Italy. They also have about 7 lovely outside tables which seemed to fill up by about 1pm (on a Monday). Skip the house white wine and go for the house red or a white on the menu.

The menu degustation (sp?) for 30 Euros is a great deal if you are hungry. It includes appetizer, first course, second course, dessert, house wine and bottled water. There is no extra upcharge for service or bread, which cost 4 or 5 Euros for 2 people at other meals.We started with the appetizer which included 3 bruschetta-spleen, chicken liver and mushroom. I just took a bite of the spleen--it was a very strong, rich flavor. The chicken liver was good, but I loved the mushroom. We also had salamis and a slice of young pecorino.Breads were very good, and included polenta sticks.The first course was ribbolito, a bean soup that you sprinkle raw chopped onions an olive oil on. The onions added a nice touch to the soup and did not taste raw.Our second (main) course was a mound of roast pork belly over greens, braised beef and roasted potatoes. I was so full, I barely touched the food. DH loved the roasted pork and I liked the braised beef.I was too full for dessert, which DH ate. It was a creamy dessert that included crostini and chocolate. He said it was delicious and rated it 8 out of 10.We were also provided with shot glasses and a bottle of lovely fruit liquor. It was smooth, not burning like grappa.So make reservations on a day when you are hungry and have a very nice meal here.

We were going to another restaurant, but realized they only take reservations and lack the willingness to even talk to the customers who traveled to their store. So, we look upon yelp and decided to try this place instead. The shop was busy, but we managed to get seated pretty quickly. The staff didn't speak English but were friendly. We tried Pici cacio e pepe (cheese pasta) and Pesto W truffle and they were both good! The bonus point is that, they are very affordable. We ordered two pasta dishes and one bottle of still water for €26! Good food, friendly service and decent price. The only regret is we didn't discover it sooner! Highly recommended!

Hands down, one of our best meals during our nearly 3 weeks in Italy - obviously a big statement with such a food culture in the country! We intended to go to a nearby restaurant, which had closed unbeknownst to our group, so we found Osteria Il Carroccio by accident. From the moment we sat down, we knew we were in for a treat. The bowl of bread had a few different offerings, and the house wines - both red and white - are perfectly delightful. The service was outstanding; the team answered all our questions about the menu with a smile. My dad and husband opted for the Fiorentina steak, while my mom and I each chose different pasta dishes. The quality of ingredients shone in each of the dishes; there was no overdoing it with spices or layers and layers of tastes. Instead, the freshly harvested vegetables were showcased, and the simple sauces allowed us to savor the delicious noodles as they were meant to be enjoyed. In summary, we stumbled upon Osteria Il Carroccio inadvertently. The spot's vibe - low key, cozy, and unpretentious - drew us in initially, and the food and wine reinforced that decision. If you're in Siena, do yourself a favor and skip the touristy spots. Venture off of Piazza del Campo (just a little bit!) and go to Osteria Il Carroccio; you won't be disappointed, especially for the value!
