This was my 2nd time here and once again it did not disappoint! The hostess and the manager kicked off the welcome party - always a pleasure. I sat in the bar area where Jason once again took care of me. I normally order an old fashion but I wanted something else.. a little fruity.. it was a perfect concoction! Next up.. Goat cheese croquettes (I visit just for these- yummy)), pork dumplings (wow), and Brussels sprouts with bacon and do I need to say more? I did also have the bread service with freshly made bread and butter! The food is amazing! This time I didn't order dessert because I saved half the. Croquettes for after and added a lot of the honey to make it sweeter and it's a perfect savory/sweet treat! Bon appétit!

Wow, really amazing place, my husband and I had a delicious dinner here... I loved the Mac and cheese!! I had the duck and that was really great too. Can't wait to go back
Be the first to ReplyThe service is impeccable.
The team clearly works together well, and we feel well taken care of every time we come. The drink recommendations are always on point. We've tried a variety of dishes from appetizers to desserts. The food has been wonderful every time, and it feels well worth the price. The ambiance is great. It's very comfortable but still feels upscale. I highly recommend trying this place out.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a wonderful experience at Ox + Anchor.
Our server Caesar was very hospitable and we want to give a 5 star rating just for him! Food: - Hanger Steak: 4.5/5, tender and cooked well - Ribeye: 3/5, just ok - Brussels sprouts: 5/5 so good!!! The sides were a good size portion to share. Great wine and cocktail selection. Would come back
Be the first to ReplySimply way too expensive.
Food and service were excellent, but $275 for a party of two with only one glass of wine is too much.

My partner and I have dined here many times both for a regular dinner and their wine dinners which are generally held the last Tuesday of the month. We have never had a bad experience even on New Years eve 2022 when we took visitors, we never go out New Eve's eve becuase of the crowds, noise and usually poor service and food but the Ox & Anchor deliverd first class service and food that night. Their wine dinners are truly amazing the food is absolutely first class, the wine pairings are perfect and the presentation a work of art. We have always had friendly staff and exceptional service. It is worth trying and great night out of a special event/date or just because you want to go first class.

I was at the bar and the bartender was very nice, gave some food recommendation's for me. I had the King Salmon and would come back just for that it was so tasty. It is pricy but definitely worth it. Just a bummer it's closed Monday's as that's when I've been in town and couldn't go back.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was great, portion size was more than we could eat.
The cocktails were reasonably priced. The server was super nice and timed everything appropriately. We didn't feel rushed or forgotten about. The only thing that was out of their control was the family with the kids that were throwing a fits. I'm not holding this against them, but it did hamper the ambiance of the evening. We will definitely be going back!
Be the first to ReplyBest burger I've ever had.
My wife is a vegan and the chef prepared an amazing plate for her off menu that she loved. Pricy but perfect for a special evening.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I went there for my birthday dinner.
He had the chicken breast dish and upon the recommendation of our server, I had the flat iron steak. The chicken dish was HUGE -- the complete breast (both halves) plus a leg. It was lightly dressed with what we think was a cherry sauce. I don't eat chicken breast because more often than not it is dry. However, this breast was juicy and tender. My flat iron steak was every bit as delicious as our server said it was. Juicy, tender, and seasoned with a butter/garlic mixture before cooking. As in most steak houses, sides are extra. We started with the beet salad (delicious) and ordered creamed spinach and roasted asparagus as our sides. The asparagus came with what I think was a Hollandaise sauce and the steak came with an assortment of sauces to pour on the steak. For desert we had the chocolate mousse which unlike other mousse I've had, was quite heavenly and solid rather than light and fluffy. If you want a chocolate fix, the mousse fits the bill. It is VERY rich. Regarding service and ambiance, it is a wonderful place to eat! Service was impeccable and the servers did the little things right. We were asked if we wanted water and they offered either still or sparkling water that they make themselves. The water is triple filter and then if you want it sparking, they have a CO2 dispenser. Our only complaint is that both my husband and I thought the food was over salted. There was salt on top of the butter. My steak was too salty as was the chicken. I think a lighter hand with the salt would be better. Salt should improve the taste of the food but not be noticeable itself. On top of the yum factor for the steak was tasting the presence of salt rather than just enhanced flavor of the steak due to a judicious use of salt. We were given salt and pepper grinders for the table so if I'd wanted more salt, I could have added it myself. The next time we go to this restaurant, we will certainly ask for less salt or no salt and just give me the salt grinder.

If you are ever in the area I highly reccomend making a reservation or stopping in. Everything from the greeting to the service to the food to the finish, absolutely exceptional. Chris was our host and he was just amazing. He truly made the dinning experience so fun. The bone marrow tots and the goat cheese croquettes were so delicious I wanted to order another helping to take home. Entrees were prepared to perfection and the sides are just ::chefs kiss:: Lastly we ordered the baked Alaska.....lemme tell ya, it was an experience to be had. Just trust me, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a wonderful experience you will never ever regret! Thank you for such a fantastic time!

What a treat to finally visit this restaurant! Finding ourselves unexpectedly at liberty for a birthday celebration, we first tried a couple of old favorites in Morro Bay. But Dorn's was closed for renovations, and the Bayside Cafe was as crowded as always. We decided to chance San Luis Obispo, and parked in the Palm Street parking garage, having had an issue with the new parking meters popping up everywhere!I spied the Hotel San Luis as we meandered down the stairs and the Ox + Anchor sign beckoned! It was a Sunday night, so no crowds, and we were warmly greeted by the maitre de as we entered. The soothing decor is uber hip, perhaps an homage to the architecture school at Cal Poly SLO.I was pleasantly surprised at our window table, and enjoyed perusing the menu, which seems to be a riff on a traditional steak house menu, but also featured salmon. And what is more traditionally American than a steak house? There are also some nods to the local in San Luis' original Chinatown in the menu, as well as the art on the walls.I noticed the egg rolls with two sauces, and ordered those right away. We got to order our salmon "medium" (it is a salmon steak, after all!), or however we wished it cooked. The sides are large portions, so we got the stuffed baked potatoes and the creamed spinach, along with some sour dough and focaccia bread. I accompanied my meal with Rusack Sauvignon Blanc, which turned out to be light and delightful. When the food came, it was a true epicurean experience. The egg rolls were rustic rolls, halved and stuffed with hen of the woods mushrooms and Mary's chicken. The dipping sauce added smoked pepper to the taste equation and rounded it out! The caramelized salmon steaks were a glossy hammered copper color, yet still moist and silky inside. The side dishe of ever-so-slightly bitter spinach with creamy sauce played well off the stuffed potatoes, which had the consistency of flan topped with caramelized onions. The tartness of the sour dough was set off by the rich butter that complemented the warm chunks of focaccia bread. We felt that we were in extremely good hands with our waiter Brian, whose advice was the epitome of skill and professionalism. He kept his eye on our dining progress and perfectly timed the meal to match our pace of enjoying it. His knowledge of the menu made it easy to order and enjoy the meal.We will definitely return for an encore of this superb dining experience...and next time we will bring friends!!

I came here for my 5 year anniversary with my partner and I was very impressed by this restaurant. We decided to go all out because you only celebrate anniversaries once a year. We each started with appetizers, he had the pear & endive salad and I had the goat cheese croquettes which were delightful! I just wish the croquettes were bigger, but delicious nonetheless! For entrees, we both had the filet mignon which was wonderful, and I had a side of mac and cheese while my partner had the french fries. The meat was cooked to perfection and the sides were a nice addition to the meal. The complimentary sauces that came with the meat were to die for! I seriously could have eaten the sauces by themselves. For dessert we received a complimentary desert and we also ordered the baked alaska. The baked alaska was an experience to behold but they went a little heavy on the rum in my opinion and it just overpowered the dish. The service here was also phenomenal. Our waitress checked in on us regularly and worked in tandem with the kitchen to deliver our meals in perfect intervals. We never waited more than 10 minutes for our next course. After the dessert trays were bused they offered us a warm towel to conclude the service. Overall, I was impressed with this restaurants cleanliness, attentiveness, and food preparation. I would come back in a heart beat if it wasn't so expensive but it's definitely a good place to visit for nice occasions.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place, great service, great food.
The ambiance is exactly what you'd expect out of a modern updated restaurant. Came here with a few buddies while visiting SLO and left very satisfied. The drinks were great and there was a good wine list to choose from. We all had steak. Each order was cooked to order and tasted great. I dont often order steaks at restaurants because I often feel I can make them better at home, but these were good cuts and cooked really well.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, service and ambiance.
Expect to pay for this fine dining establishment. The dishes were deliciously prepared. Would recommend this place for a nice date. Don't forget to bring your credit card!

We were saddened to find the restaurant has changed their menu and our favorite dishes are no longer available. Service was amazing and we were well taken care of as usual. It was my birthday so they brought a nice birthday dessert. They've enclosed the patio which is a good improvement when you're sitting on that side of the room. We won't be back as the new menu just didn't meet our expectations. But I'm sure others will certainly enjoy.
Be the first to ReplyBest steakhouse in the City.
Wonderful service. If you want to make the manager work, order the baked Alaska. It's table side service.
Be the first to ReplyFood was great.
Service was great. But unfortunately they completely did a terrible job designing the dining room. The noise travels and you are eating Michelin dining in a Denny's Style restaurant. If you want quiet and intimate, it's not. If you want loud and fun, it's not. My first time there it was not what I expected. Very bright, very loud. I was disappointed. Went back again last night knowing what to expect but unfortunately the table next to us did not expect it so they decided to take it out on us since we were the only table near them. They were shushing us loudly like we were kindergartners and talking about us the whole time making us feel uncomfortable. We were no different noise than the rest of the restaurant. It's disappointing the restaurant is designed so poorly that people are frequently disappointed with the dining experience. It was terrible to have the disappointment of another table take away from our experience last night. Wish they can redesign the layout or add some sound absorbers. Won't be going back. Sorry

Incredible! We celebrated Valentine's Day at Ox + anchor, it was our first time at the restaurant and we were blown away. The food was absolutely incredible. There was a set menu and we got to try nearly everything. The steak was melt in your mouth delicious! We also tried the lobster stuffed crepe that was packed with flavor, and something different. Baked Alaska was offered for dessert and prepared table side. Definitely a great experience, the service was awesome. We never went without water, and our plates were cleared well before the next course. It was a great Valentine's Day treat!

This place is fantastic and I highly recommend it for a nice night out. The service here was BEYONNNND amazing and blew my expectations. Everyone from bussers to hosts to waiters were all super friendly and accommodating and made sure everything was okay. The food here was 10/10 in my opinion. We got the ribeye and New York prime and they were made very very well. I cannot stress enough to visit here if you're in the area.
Be the first to ReplyLoved the food and service, hate the QR code menu.
Dining should be a sacred opportunity to keep your phone away & engage with those you're dining with. Unfortunately, QR codes force everyone at the table to dig out their phone immediately upon being seated. In our family, the rule has always been no phones at the table. It was also annoying having the wifi enabled QR cube sitting in the middle of the table while dishes were jockeyed around it.For such an upscale restaurant & dropping $600 for a meal, the QR code menu really kills the ambiance. Please reconsider.

This is the second year my husband and I come to Hotel SLO to celebrate our anniversary and for a good reason, hospitality and the FOOD at Ox and Anchor. I highly recommend you get the yellow fin ahi tuna tartare and bone marrow tater tots for starters. Both were fantastic and sent your taste buds on a culinary adventure. For entrees I decided on the Duck Confit, the duck skin was so crispy and delicious. It was accompanied by a huckleberry jus that was to die for. My husband got the flat iron and it was juicy and perfectly cooked. Bryan, our server, made out experience so enjoyable. He was incredibly attentive and charismatic. Even the manager Daniel stopped by to check on us and really made us feel at home. Thank you Ox and Anchor for making our anniversary special, once again!
