Fresh, delightful food and lovely seating inside and outside
No, they do NOT use low-cost ingredients! My lunch salad was a generous size using fresher lettuce than I can get at the farmer's market or Berkeley Bowl right now. The pizza was also good, though that's not my favorite food. The service was excellent. We sat outside, midweek, which was very quiet, enjoying the trees and the yellow exterior of the building. Will definitely come back, maybe for dinner.
Be the first to ReplyRidiculously Good Meal On So Many Levels. + Event Space?? WOW!
First, some context on who's reviewing. I have a culinary background with back-of-house station position experience. As an events producer/activations manager, I've engaged countless caterers & dined in "almost" all the restaurants in SF that are worth your time based on very simple criteria: Food, Service, Dining Experience (venue, acoustics, location, size), & Value ($ -vs- portion). The only thing that upsets me more than food that's not served HOT is walking out hungry; This foodie walked out happy! Review for Dinner / Saturday Night / 6:30 pm / 2 people Location: Dog Patch Neighborhood, close to 3rd Street. Parking: Decent. Good after 6 p.m., but it is in a residential area. You'll be competing with residents. Outside Venue: Located on the corner, with a fabulous parklet on the side street (with heat lamps). The entrance is on the side street. Inside Venue: Great lighting; good flow to navigate; open kitchen with bar seating; Secondary bar area to the right with more seating & standing room; clean bathrooms. The color palette is soft & inviting with wood overtones. **Fun Fact: tiny & secluded room off the right side of the bar area; neat for small gatherings w comfy seats (bonus!) Food: In one word... DELICIOUS! (See Photos!) + "In-House Pasta" - Burrata, scallion salsa, roasted stone fruit, Bernal bakery toast | 16 - Pappardelle, braised veal ragu, gypsy pepper, garden herbs | 30 - Chiocciole, fennel sausage, braised kale, parmigiano, pangrattato | 26 - Flourless chocolate cake, espresso gelato, salted caramel | 14 Service: On Point! Our needs were always met & our server was awesome. Summary: I'm so picky because I can make most restaurant dishes, so when I come across a spot that is above average just on 1 visit, I'm obligated to return just to affirm my assessment; Great Dining Experience. Looking forward to returning soon.
Be the first to ReplyRidiculously overpriced -for minute portions - GO ELSEWHERE!
Went for dinner with family short notice. Service was decent and the food was very good. But $150 for 2 adults and 3 kids for some tomato pasta and 2 portions of Foccacia bread? Really? Felt totally robbed by this place. Portions tiny. Avoid at all costs unless you like being ripped off.
Be the first to ReplyPiccino lost their grove
I've been to a lot of great and good restaurants, and Piccino isn't one of them. It used to be a "neighborhood gem" in Dog Patch, with a friendly, millennial, counter-culture vibe and a stable, occasionally brilliant menu. I don't know what happened to them, but the last two times I've been there the vibe is gone, replaced by some kind of food mill: officious, almost rude, unhelpful, lackluster food, unfocused, not great. It's a pity. Whoever bought out one or more the previous partners is running the place into the ground: minimum cost ingredients, minimum wage workers, and maximum table turnover. It's all about the margin now, nothing to do with the original values.

We recently bought a condo in the Portero Hill area of San Francisco. A new neighbor highly recommended Piccino's, and specifically, their meatballs. We checked it our, and they were right, they were exceptional. We did not have a reservation, and they worked us in, even though they were very busy. We are glad they did, and we will be back.
Be the first to ReplyTasty but way overpriced
The food was very tasty, but small servings for the price. Left hungry. Also many fees including a fee for using my credit card. Won’t go back.

Ambitious search of new flavors justify (?) the steep prices for just about everything, from salads to pasta to wines. A bit of arrogance in an unassuming setting. Sometime more attention to execution would make the difference.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food. Vegetarian friendly.
Awesome good & great service. Had the strozzapeti which was great pasta - the only other time I had it was in Italy. The margherita & bianca pizzas were great. The cauliflower soup was good as well. Parking is on the street.

Everything in the menu is good. The service is super.
Don’t miss the salsiccio pizza and the margarita pizza
When is brunch not brunch?
We went to Piccino for brunch. The have a very nice facility and efficient service but we were expecting brunch. To me, brunch should include a selection of dishes that are typical of both breakfast and lunch. Lots of lunch-like selections, but only two breakfast-like selections. The coffee price was a bit more expensive than usual but what made it *really* expensive is that there are no refills.
Be the first to Replybusy place with lots and lots of plates and silverware per course
Cozy place with good food and great service. Couldn't view the Prix Fixe menu ahead of time online but that problem appears to have been fixed this week - maybe it's viewable at the end of the week? Tried to ask about the menu ahead of time and called twice before I could ask the manager - no one called me back after the first call even though I requested a callback and the second time the woman answering the phone (same as the earlier call) said that she didn't know where any of the managers were; after I told her that I would hold, a manager was located and he told me that they didn't know what would be served next week because it was seasonal; five of the items from last week are on this week's menu again....
They did do a last minute replacement for us due to nut allergy.
Parking right out front if you get there before 5 pm on a Monday; can't imagine how busy the place must be on a weekend. Definitely make reservations ahead of time.
Some of the websites for the restaurant say that they are closed on Mondays, although I called on a Monday and we dined on a Monday. Maybe during the winter they are closed on Mondays? Or it's old information that hasn't been updated???
Coffee Break
Popped in here to have a quick coffee and were pleasantly surprised by not only the fantastic service but the choice of coffee and cookies. Would definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplySide charges for paremsan cheese on your pasta......
Piccino’s is an inviting and upper scale cafe and the food more sophisticated than most cafes. However, the value is poor. The pasta and pizza were on the bland side, the items are pricey (high $20’s for pasta dishes, high teens for pizza and most wines by the glass are in the low to mid teens) and the portions small.
Our server (Hana) was not very good. Our marguerite pizza was almost all sauce, so we asked for some paremesan cheese to put on our pizza. After waiting for 5 minutes, we received a tiny ramekin of what amounted to a tablespoon of parmesan cheese. Worse, the parmesan was bland and tasteless and not even as good as the parmesan in a shaker at pizza parlors. Because the portion was so small and the parmesan so tasteless, we asked for a second helping, again receiving a tiny tablespoon in another ramekin that took 5 minutes to make it to our table.
However, the coup de gras for the evening was our bill reflected a couple of $2 charges for each ramekin of parmesan cheese…….
Brunch favorite
Located in Dogpatch district quiet venue with great ambience and food selections for Brunch Ordered variety of options including the salads, pizzas and main course. Pizza was exceptional with thin crust making for an ice addition to meal without being heavy. Salad selection of beets and the buratta were excellent and ample enough to share at the table along with the pizzas. Service was friendly and accommodating. Had a 5 year old as part of the group and was able to make selections and request a simple egg over easy which was graciously provided.
