We are searching for another udon contender in case Yakiniku West ever discontinues their udon menu (Udon West was absorbed by Yakiniku during the pandemic) which has the only udon broth worth slurping in our opinion. This broth was very light, not bad, definitely better than Samurai Mama's bouillon cube broth, but lacking in the depth and nuance of Yakiniku. Although the fresh knife cut noodles were nice. The other dishes we ordered: spinach appetizer, agedashi tofu and catfish don, were bland and mediocre, the extreme low point being the catfish don, one of the pricier menu items featuring a few small fillets of overly sweetened catfish, many onions, a large amount of mushy rice, and a raw egg to top it off. To our taste the dish wasnt hot enough to really incorporate the egg and kind of upped the gross and dorm-room reminiscent rice-cooker factor of the concoction. We dont eat beef, chicken or pork and many of the reviews seem to highlight these dishes but if you are, like us, on the hunt for the best Udon broth in town, skip Raku and head to Yakiniku West (ask for the udon menu), we cant lose the last good udon in this city!!
